Absolutely great stay, room was lovely, very spacious and clean. Great shower in good size bathroom. Very dog friendly, in the bar, restaurant and room. Location wise, perfect, right in the centre of town, every walkable, great private car park. Very friendly staff! Great beers on tap. Meal deal for dinner was £16 for a main which included a small wine or a beer and the breakfast, which was included, was fantastic - a full english breakfast, or you could make-your-own option too. Nothing to fault - would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay and fantastic value for money.

We were staying locally and decided to pop into this lovely wee café for a late lunch before going back to our accommodation. Cafés etc had just reopened so it was good to be able to support them. The two ladies who were running the café were very welcoming and our food was freshly prepared. It was delicious and well presented. The café also has small gifts/cards etc and I have to confess that I did buy some bits and pieces. Really lovely small eatery. Mind you, we could have done without the two fairly loud guys who were obviously holding a work meeting there. I really wasn’t interested in the ins and outs of their business but they were speaking so loudly that we couldn’t help but earwig in. Think about the other customers chaps. It’s not all about you. If you need to discuss business - do it in your office!

We were looking for somewhere a bit special for the night after Valentines Day. I'd recently requested a sample dinner menu from the Royalist menu which looked as though it would suit us nicely. I made an online booking and we therefore had no idea we'd be treated to the most amazing Valentine's tasting menu! The food was absolutely outstanding with exceptional presentation, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The staff were efficient and friendly and we had the most enjoyable evening. We'd thoroughly recommend the experience.

We had a birthday afternoon tea here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Being February and miserable weather, we had the place to ourselves but the staff had gone to a lot of effort - decorating the birthday girl's table with birthday confetti. Nice and cosy inside. The food was very good - nice selection of sandwiches - what I would call sensible fillings like cheese and chutney, ham and tomato, tuna mayo, and egg. Our only comment would be to include a few more of the tuna and egg ones as there were quite a few of the ham and tomato which for our group was the least popular flavour. A selection of four different cakes - carrot, victoria sponge, chocolate and a very good syrupy flapjack. Small pieces but we liked that as you could have a bit of everything without feeling like you were going to explode! Very fresh and tasty. Finally cream scones - and yay - proper clotted cream! My son has a lot of allergies so chose a baked potato off the main menu. The staff were very helpful at the booking stage sorting out his meal and he enjoyed it. Am sure it must be lovely in summer time with all the plants and being able to sit outside - will definitely come back again.

With the return of Sunday lunches @thehaughmond we couldn’t resist the chance to try it out. ⭐️5/5 Recommended👍🏻 Price 💸💸💸 Starters- The ham hock terrine was a real treat, adorned with micro herbs and pickled vegetables. The soft poached egg added a rich, luxurious touch. The cured sea trout, modestly paired with cucumber, allowed the fish’s natural flavour to shine, complemented perfectly by black treacle yogurt and crisp rye crackers. Main Courses- The roast sirloin of beef was beautifully pink, accompanied by a Yorkshire pudding. The Yorkshire pudding, while not the tastiest ever, was crispy and light. Although our personal preference would be for thinner slices, the generous portion of beef was satisfying. Roast pork shoulder, with its crispy crackling, offered great depth of flavour. It was refreshing to see this cut instead of the more commonly found pork loin on menus. Both meals were served with roast potatoes and a selection of vegetables, including heritage carrots and cauliflower cheese. The pork gravy was particularly moreish. Desserts- Staying true to tradition, we opted for desserts reminiscent of those your nan would make. The apple crumble with creme Anglaise was delightful, though it was a bit heavy on the apple and could have used more crumble to balance the stewed fruit. The indulgent sticky toffee pudding was surprisingly light, with a buttery toffee sauce that was simply a delight. The Haughmond offers a laid-back vibe for Sunday lunch. Despite being busy with diners, it never felt overwhelming, which added to the overall enjoyment of the meal. £42 for three courses, we felt represented good value given the standard of food and service provided. The portions might not be huge, but after three courses, we certainly didn’t leave hungry. Clearly, the decision to return to serving Sunday lunch was a popular choice, and we left feeling very satisfied. Back at the Top of Its Game with great food, attentive service, and a relaxed ambiance.

We had a wonderful meal here. The lamb rump Sunday roast was sublime, so tender and lots of veg served on the side and extra gravy. The beef pie was also perfect with an unusual topping. Very reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would thoroughly recommend.
