Wondering round Shrewsbury and found this wonderful place. Sat outside in their small but sunny courtyard. Great menu and had the sharing platter with a glass of lush French white and local beer! Service excellent and great value for money. Recommend

We had such a great experience at dinner last week. The food was superb - particularly the salt baked celeriac 👌🏻👌🏻 also, the meringue on the passion fruit meringue tart was fantastic, I keep thinking about it! Rhubarb is in a great setting, with friendly and considerate staff too. I’d definitely recommend.

What an absolute delight! I treated my partner to an overnight stay and I would 100% go back again and again. The staff were lovely and so friendly. We had a bottle of Prosecco waiting in our room (as requested) and went down for a lunch. We had the tapas which was delicious! The breakfast in the morning was lovely - really couldn’t fault the whole experience. The room was exactly what you wanted, very clean, spacious and quirky. Would stay here again and again!

Stayed here for a few days to celebrate my wife's significant birthday and were joined by our daughters. Had a lovely time. On arrival our rooms had been upgraded. They were lovely. Ate dinner at the restaurant once during our stay and food, atmosphere and staff were all excellent. Breakfast also very good. Would highly recommend.

Using a gift voucher we were given at Christmas, we dined at Rhubarb last night and enjoyed everything about it. Cosy and nicely lit - perfect ambience. Friendly and efficient staff. The food was well cooked and attractively presented - the highlight for me was the salt-baked celeriac starter which had really tasty accompaniments. Beware of water charge - you need to stipulate tap water, otherwise it will be £4 for a bottle of still water. We would definitely recommend Rhubarb and hope to return soon.

This is the first review I have ever wrote and it’s not lost on me that I’ve raised my head above the parapet following a negative experience, given I’m generally a positive person when it comes to eating out. Unfortunately I feel obligated to not only tell potential customers of my experience, but to give the restaurant feedback as at no point after the meal was I asked how we’d found it. My wife and I don’t get much opportunity to go out alone for a meal as we have a very demanding young family. So our disappointment with our experience at Drapers was very unfortunate. The crooks of the issue was mainly around my course selections but my wife found cause to question the quality of certain parts of her meal too. The starter I selected was the Chicken and Duck purée. This was the least risky option for me as it’s, to all tense and purposes, is bread and pate. The best way to describe this is being served a can of Sheba cat food, in a pretty way. For main I had the Guinea Fowl. I think I would get as much flavour out of a sandwich filler from Sainsbury's as this offering. I thought I’d at least be able to enjoy the fondant potato, but at the size of a ten pence piece this would be short lived. Desert was a dark chocolate…….. splodge. The less said about this the better. My wife did select the steak and chips, which in the main, was well cooked and tasty. Let’s be brutally honest, it’s not difficult to get steak and chips wrong. Service was friendly and attentive, and there is a good selection of drinks. I’m almost glad I wasn’t asked for my opinion on the night as my intention was not to complain for the sake of it to get anything deducted from the bill. If you commit to a dining experience you should pay whether you enjoy it or not. In summary though, please do better. You have a nice venue and friendly staff. Your food on the other hand needs to be reviewed, stop serving dishes that are clearly subpar but are wrapped up in a pretty way that acts to deceive the majority of customers.

A group - we enjoyed the food, the ambience was great (in the old mediaeval hall) and the service was friendly and helpful. The meals we had were nicely cooked and well-presented. My slight cavil is that the desserts were underwhelming for the price (for example, the affogato was very slight) and the main courses themselves could have been bigger (again, considering the price) and could have come with at least a portion of side vegetables, without our having to buy side dishes; they didn't look much by themselves.

Booked a Monday night stay, so only guest rooms were open. The room was perfect in every way. The location of this building (and it being a Monday) meant that it was almost silent outside so had a peaceful night of sleep. Late check-out was another great aspect of this accommodation. The host was very welcoming, everywhere was impeccably clean and we’d definitely re-book.

This is a lovely 350 year old building, the whole experience is beyond compare. The staff are soo good. I had the rabbit and chicken terrine for starters which was sublime. Main course - fillet of dairy cow beef. So flavoursome. A real treat, served with triple cooke chips which were just fantastic. The ambience here is something else. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys good food and a wonderful experience

Very nice atmosphere and polite and friendly staff. The menu was a bit limited. The starters were very good and reasonably priced. With reservations I chose the 'Welsh dairy cow fillet stake' for my main coure which was a big mistake. I can only assume she had had a long and productive life because she was as tough as an old boot and I couldn't eat it. I think they should leave cull cows well alone and try using proper beef breeds that are bread for the purpose instead. When the waitress asked if we had enjoyed our meal we politely commented that the Welsh cow was inedible , I was disappointed that no concession was made on the bill. Anyway, we had a pleasant evening and I have learned never to consider eating a Welsh dairy cow - or one of any other nationality for that matter unless it is well mashed up in a beef burger.

Such an excellent restaurant that we came two evenings running. We did not feel that we could better the food atmosphere and service. I have been recommending it to friends. A special mention for the lovely member of staff who took our reservation and greeted us on both occasions and to Sam who clearly understands the subtleties of five star customer service and is a credit to the restaurant.

The restaurant is located in a boutique hotel in a wonderful historic Elizabethan building built in 1585. We called in for lunch and were shown to a table in the historic Drapers Hall. It’s a beautiful room and the tables were well spaced out. We sat by a large stone fireplace dated 1658. It did feel like a privilege to sit in such a beautiful building, but we were a little worried that maybe the food wouldn’t live up to the surroundings. We need not have worried, both of our lunch dishes were nothing short of excellent. The front of house team were absolutely first rate.

I literally have no words. The food the service the wine? Everything is just simply amazing. The atmosphere ? I’m sorry but you can’t make that. If you haven’t tried this place I recommend you do. The chips are absolutely incredible. I can’t wait to come back. Me and my friend live in town so we are lucky. But if you are unsure about where to go, go here. Tasty.

Just incredible flavours in the cooking, amazing presentation, generous portions and simply outstanding service - and all at simply great value! I came here for lunch with my wife and was bowled over by the taste sensation of both our dishes. The wine list is mind blowing, the surroundings are unique and the service is excellent. This is the top of the pile in Shrewsbury!

This place spoilt my 69th birthday. The food was mediocre the service was aggressive and considering I had booked a table for 10 an hours drive away because of the reviews I was devastated. We kept trying to order wine and they only had one bottle of each and when we complained that one wasn’t up to standard were told it was a matter of taste. We then found out it was changing hands the next day so I hope it is changing staff too. £800 for a really poor lunch was not what I had imagined . Don’t waste your money , I have no idea where these other reviews came from. I feel very sorry for the new owners. I never write negative reviews but this was dreadful, thank goodness for understanding friends.

A lovely gem of a small hotel 3 miles from Oswestry, set in beautiful countryside. Friendly and attentive service, alongside a varied and interesting daily menu with all dishes impeccably presented and prepared to a very high standard. Our rooms were modern and contemporary in style, tastefully decorated with a super shower and jacuzzi bath. Highly recommend especially for walkers with endless opportunities for walking along with lots of places of interest if you want a more sedate time. Highly recommended and we look forward to a repeat visit later in the year.

Hidden gem serving the most delicious food with locally sourced ingredients in a historic setting. After starting with complimentary olive infused bread and whipped goat milk butter, we were served a perfectly cooked filet with peppercorn sauce, a delicious local halibut with incredible beef ravioli, and to die for chunky duck fat chips. Although all of the deserts looked tempting, we opted for the very generous selection of homemade crackers and local cheese. Everything was perfection. The hotel manager, Charlie, was our charming server with some great local tips and just the right amount of attentiveness. We are foodies who love to travel from Australia to the US to Europe and the Middle East, and The Royalist now ranks as one of our favorites in the world. Not to be missed.

We had a birthday afternoon tea here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Being February and miserable weather, we had the place to ourselves but the staff had gone to a lot of effort - decorating the birthday girl's table with birthday confetti. Nice and cosy inside. The food was very good - nice selection of sandwiches - what I would call sensible fillings like cheese and chutney, ham and tomato, tuna mayo, and egg. Our only comment would be to include a few more of the tuna and egg ones as there were quite a few of the ham and tomato which for our group was the least popular flavour. A selection of four different cakes - carrot, victoria sponge, chocolate and a very good syrupy flapjack. Small pieces but we liked that as you could have a bit of everything without feeling like you were going to explode! Very fresh and tasty. Finally cream scones - and yay - proper clotted cream! My son has a lot of allergies so chose a baked potato off the main menu. The staff were very helpful at the booking stage sorting out his meal and he enjoyed it. Am sure it must be lovely in summer time with all the plants and being able to sit outside - will definitely come back again.
