I booked the Moatshed for a surprise 80th birthday party for my mum. We had just over 50 guests and I would say this was a perfect number for the venue. I was given a wide choice of items to create an afternoon tea menu, along with access in the morning to put up decorations. Nothing was too much trouble for the team, even when we had people drop out at the last minute - we were even given one guest's full selection of vegetarian afternoon tea to take home for her, along with a large 'doggy bag of leftovers. They catered for various dietary requirements, including vegan and gluten free, with no problems at all. I cannot praise them all enough - all the staff were a joy to deal, the venue was spotless and we were really looked after.

Sadly, The Moat Shed is no longer open on a regular basis. However, it does open to the public on occasions. Subscribe to their mailing list to be notified of dates and be quick to book your table. During lockdown we regularly had their takeaway afternoon teas - always delicious and very generous portions. Recently we were lucky enough to go for Sunday lunch. It was our first time and, we hope, the first of many. The staff are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. We had soup and pate to start, followed by roast beef and roast lamb. Both were perfect and accompanied by lots of tasty vegetables. For dessert we had apple crumble tart and custard (vegan) and coffee and ginger pavlova. We were spoilt for choice and, although intrigued by the idea of a savoury cheesecake, we simply didn't have room didn't have room. Not to worry, we were able to have a piece to take away for later. The draught beer and the wines on offer were also excellent. Every table was taken and yet the atmosphere was calm, with the buzz of very happy diners. If you get the chance to eat here, don't hesitate. We certainly intend to be regulars, so please make sure you leave a table free for us! Thanks to everyone for a wonderful experience. See you soon!

We stumbled across this wonderful establishment yesterday morning; a hidden gem in rolling countryside. We were greeted with friendly professionalism and advised they were fully booked for lunch but we could be accommodated for coffee and “cake”. We were served promptly with delicious delights garnished with fresh fruit and treated most courteously. This is in a stunning location and is beautifully fitted out inside with some delightful touches. Our server was extremely helpful and of a very pleasant disposition; she was knowledgeable about the establishment and eager to answer our questions. We looked at the Sunday lunch menu and it’s safe to say we will be back to sample it! Thank you to all involved in this fabulous venture; you did good. Kind regards and very wishes. K & P

We have never been disappointed eating at The Moat Shed but today we enjoyed a fabulous 'takeway' Ploughman's lunch, but as a bonus, we were able to sit outside in their garden area set amidst lovely rural surroundings. That, together with a nice bottle of wine and glorious sunshine made it a perfect afternoon during this dreadful pandemic. Some takeaway .... the best for miles!

If it's a sunny day then this is a lovely cafe stop for cyclists. Nice outdoor seating and views. You can sit inside but I recommend to avoid Sunday lunchtimes as they serve roast dinners for guests prebooking,.so gets a little busy. A lovely little stop as I say on a nice day. I've also driven over and visited without the bike. The vegetarian sausages are something else and scones are great tasting and well presented :)

We came here twice for breakfast on the recommendation of the owner of the place we were staying and we were not disappointed. The full moat breakfast is fantastic and a very large portion. Their baked beans are also something very interesting, not your traditional baked beans they contain all sorts of delicious beans but taste like the traditional ones we are used to. The sausages are juicy and delicious and the bacon slices good and thick. There is seating outside which looks out over the field that contains sheep and a couple of donkeys, i can only imagine how magical it looks in the snow or frost. Fantastic service from the staff, would definitely eat here again if in the area.

Good hearty food. A step up from pub grub. Generous portions, we shared a prawn starter and there was plenty for 2. The liver was great but I wish the bacon with it had been served crispy on top instead of limp in the gravy, but that's just me. We were too stuffed for pudding. Great location. Fabulous quirky decor. The staff were pleasant however the girl that took our order needed a clean apron as it was dirty and a little off putting. There were lots of wasps but with the beautiful windows open I'm not sure what you can do about nature but they gave us a fly squatter which was great. It was in a wonderful peaceful spot and great to cycle to. Thank you

This place is a hidden gem off the beaten path. I have to give it five stars because it was perfect. The food was delicious, it is very good value for money. The service was excellent the waitresses are incredibly prompt, they make it look effortless, yet they are clearly making sure the food is served all at the same time and work very hard to do with with a full restaurant. The decor is lovely, they catered for everyone: meat eaters, veggies and vegans with great tasty options. It is also in a lovely location next to an ancient moat. My only suggestion is that you have a larger seating area outside because I will definitely be coming back over the summer months, I just want to make sure I get a seat. If you are thinking about going here don't waste anytime, book a table and go, you won't be disappointed! :)

We came here for Afternoon Tea on Saturday. O M G it was amazing. Some unusual twists on a basic tea, with added extras. Coronation chicken sandwiches, warm cheesy croissants, ham and salad beetroot wraps, warm sausage rolls, cheese scones with cream cheese and smoked salmon for the savoury selection. One of each for the three of us. Salad garnishes too. Then the sweet selection was just as exciting if not more so! Scones with jam & cream, cream brûlée, chocolate brownies, meringues, and mini doughnuts which had a syringe of jam to fill them yourself! Never seen this before - I guess children would love it. Raspberries and blueberries decorated the deserts. We managed to eat the lot with some help from my great nephew. I highly recommend The Moat Shed. Helpful and friendly service and a great location with amazing views. Somewhat disappointing food for the price. I had goats cheese salad with a chilli sauce. Basically bagged leaves, cucumber and cherry tomato with a bit of spitralised carrot doused in shop bought chilli sauce with a slice of goats cheese crumbled over it. There are so many recipes theses days for imaginative salads that this was very disappointing and average to say the least. My daughter had Thai Fishcakes which came with the same salad.

We came for a family lunch today with two littlies. The food was overpriced and unimaginative. We ordered the sausages off the children’s menu, at £6 which I felt expensive, and they were totally unsuitable for a child. Dry, overpoweringly peppery sausages with microwaved veg like cabbage - not nice. I had a goats cheese salad - yummy cheese - dreadful salad drowned in sweet chilli sauce. At over £12 I felt expensive. There were no light lunch options like sandwiches - only full on main meals. My sister had fish cakes which didn’t seem homemade but bought ones and though they tasted ok came with the same poor salad drowned in sweet chilli.

We had previously visited or afternoon tea and had promised ourselves lunch. We booked for lunch on New Year’s Eve with a group from 28 to 90 yrs. Available was a good selection, including two roasts pork and beef. The older adult plumped for steak pie. All main meals were cooked to perfection, the pork with cracklings and apple sauce. Veg and superb roast potatoes. Sweet selection was amazing, Baileys sundae, a sublime trio of deserts. Two slight disappointments, firstly the waitress was not able to describe something on the menu accurately and the coffee a little weak for our taste. Try this place, especially in the Summer great surroundings

We visited after a friend recommended it. It's a quirky place, which,I think would be great in the summer. The food was lovely- I had pork in cider cream. There was quite a varied meal, even for vegetarians, but I think the desserts, even though tasty, are a bit overpriced (£5+) We had booked well in advance but they sat us by the door which was a bit chilly for some when it opened. In hindsight, perhaps we should have asked to move as there were tables free. Worth the visit.

We have eaten here several times over the years and have always come away feeling pleased! The food is tasty, well presented and the staff charming and friendly. During Sumner and holidays I would advise booking as it is popular for those in the know, enjoy!

Lovely views, lovely log burner, but please get a proper coffee machine! I had a truly awful cup of coffee☹️

Visited for first time. Really pleasant location in middle of countryside. Had the roasts as it was a Sunday and everything was cooked very nicely and good quality. The deserts were also very tasty and good choice. I’d go back. The only slight problem is that you are tied into 2 or 3 course-I can only manage a main so it would have been nice to have that option.

I have been here three times and have enjoyed it every time. The building and location are beautiful and a bit difficult to other places and the food is good.

First day of retirement and decided to celebrate with breakfast. Not disappointed it was lovely. One very tiny complaint, we were met by a very nice but young waitress who did not smile once during our visit. I know it was a Monday morning but a smiling welcome is always appreciated wherever you go.

Although not the first time we've eaten there, I'm glad I booked for Sunday lunch at the Moat Shed. We were going to an event a few minutes drive away and were able to enjoy a great meal before moving on.My wife chose the roast beef ("excellent flavour and melt-in-the-mouth") while I opted for the vegetable casserole (filling, tasty and with herb dumplings - yum), both served with a good selection of accompanying vegetables. To follow, a cheesecake for my wife (highly praised, once more) and the fantastic bread and butter pudding with a mouth watering lactose-free vanilla ice cream for me.The serving staff are attentive and charming; the surroundings are airy, comfortable and interesting and we very much enjoyed a delicious lunch while sheep grazed the sunny pastures on the other side of the glass. Although not right on our doorstep, we have always found the Moat Shed to be worth the visit because the food has always been of a very high standard with an original menu and, we think, represents very good value for money.

We went for the first time today and were so impressed. Lovely location, great building, excellent service and the food was fab. I had the roast pork and the crackling was lovely. My other half had roast beef. He had apple crumble to follow and I had the sticky toffee pudding which I would highly recommend. We will definitely be back.

Visited with family during the week for dinner. Food was excellent. I had the special of the day (Pene Vodka). The chef recommended it and I was not disappointed. The service was also very good. Definitely would recommend. It is worth a visit if you are in the area!

The service was friendly and the food absolutely first-rate. Can recommend the Ploughman’s which is loaded with cheese, really top notch ham, and lovely crusty bread. Would have loved to stay for cake but we were all too full.

We had our works Christmas do here for 30+ people and we stayed the night. Front of house staff were lovely and welcoming, but that is all I can really say nice about our stay. Our room was like something out of the 70/80s very twee and old-fashioned. Quilt cover had a rip in it. Bath looked old, faint smell of cigarette smoke. No soap, shower gel etc in the bathroom - to help save the planet apparently - you could request some at reception. We were woken about 6am by what I assume was some kind of water cistern behind one of the bedroom walls that sounded like a plane going over head. The party. Arrival time was stated as 7pm and most (about 180) turned up about then. We were all crowded into the bar which wasn't big enough and soon warmed up to a very uncomfortable temperature. They eventually let us in at 8pm. Drinks were astronomically expensive - £7.50 for a pint £8.20 for a Baileys or a large glass of wine (£25+ by the bottle) and £7.20 for a pint of coke!!!. The main course wasn't served until after 9pm and my beef was dry and tasteless, though others who had the turkey said it wasn't bad. And my Xmas pudding was dry too. All in all not somewhere I would ever go again and certainly don't know where it gets it 4 star rating from. I did voice most of my complaints to reception before leaving.

Have been coming here for over a year and their Panang curry is the best! Portion sizes are generous for price - we always have enough leftover for a good size meal the day following. Staff is friendly too
