Always say the Happy Bap is the Best in the West! Their food is really high quality but good price. In there today (6th April) . CONGRATULATIONS to Steve and Abbie for their 10 years of running a warm, chatty, cheerful and outstanding cafe - and the cake was just scrumptious! You've not experienced the best of Bishop' s Castle, and it's local atmosphere, until you've been in to the Happy Bap. Thank you. Back soon. Dave and Julie

From the minute I tasted the home-made marmite and potato cheese whirl I could tell this were no ordinary café. And it ain’t! Loved everything they did including soup with generous -unbelievably scrumptious - homemade cheese scone, salad - plus I was even allowed a taster of the amazingly delicious coronation chicken made with yoghurt! Lovely owners. Euphoric experience. At the happy bap everything tastes like it’s made with ❤️

Fantastic choice of food. Ranging from Homemade soup, chefs home smoked brisket , locally made sausage, freshly baked bread, homemade scones just to name just a few items. Gluten free clients and those with special dietry needs all catered for. A lovely warm atmosphere and staff who show care and respect for the clients. A lovely cosy place to stop and enjoy a snack or a more full filling meal. A place where you don't want to leave, especially on a chilly winters day. A welcoming smile and greeting awaits anyone who chooses to visit this gem of a place. You'll always want to return. You'll not be disappointed.

We visited passing through for lunch. The Manger/Owner wasn’t very customer friendly, maybe because we weren’t regulars/local, as other customers that she knew were given a more friendly service. Interesting that a similar comment was made on a recent review in August. The food was ok, however I am dubious about the supposed “local specialty” sausage, they looked and tasted like normal supermarket chipolata sausages. The best part of the meal was the baguette, that was very tasty and fresh.

One of the most amazing cafes I've been to. The bap were the freshest and yummiest bread just perfect. We don't normally have cake when out as I'm always disappointed but we were tempted to try the chocolate orange cake it was delicious! So light and full of flavour. The Victoria sponge looked great too. Hubby had the sausage roll and home made chilli dip and said it was lovely too. And very reasonable priced. Perfect spot after having a mooch around the very quaint and unusual Bishops castle,

Last Saturday, 2nd June 2018.... Witty and staff were booked to provide catering at an event at nearby Montgomery, in the Town Hall. I had offered Witty the slot for no fee as I had paid the fee for the use of the kitchen and all he had to do was to get out of bed and supply sandwiches and tea for 120 people at lunch time, which was between the hours of noon and 2. pm... not onerous one might think; particularly as all monies taken would have been his. However a week previously Witty was on board and telling me he'd be pleased to do the bash.... However, come lunch time nobody from the Crappy Bap had bothered to turn up nor was there any message saying what was going on. Subsequently I had 120 hungry people awaiting on the services of Witty and his team.... To date no one has told me why they couldn't be bothered to turn up, or why they didn't. I appreciate that 'stuff happens' but why didn't someone have at least the common curtesy to let me know so other arrangements could be made? No doubt they would make out that they had tried to contact me but they didn't and they had my home number which they could have rang... Nil points in fact Z minus!!

A visit to The Happy Bap is my treat to myself when I drive over to BC for a hair appointment. So much so, that I always book appointments that span lunchtime, so that I can pop in for a soup or one of the wonderful filled baguettes (baked on site). This used to be more of a takeaway establishment, but they have moved to premises further up the hill and now have seating inside (and al fresco in the summer) with big bay windows looking out over the High Street and all the comings and goings.Whitty makes his own soup, which is often innovative in flavour and always delicious - last time I visited, I had Parsnip, Pear and Ginger. Filled baguettes are available, baked potatoes, home-made sausage rolls; as well as lovely cakes and home-made scones.Lots of locals pop in for sandwiches etc to take out, but it is very relaxing just to sit and while away some time, eating good food (and great coffee) and watching the world go by.Talk is that The Happy Bap may begin to open in the evening with live music and tapas type food - will definitely be trying that if it comes to fruition.

We had our works Christmas do here for 30+ people and we stayed the night. Front of house staff were lovely and welcoming, but that is all I can really say nice about our stay. Our room was like something out of the 70/80s very twee and old-fashioned. Quilt cover had a rip in it. Bath looked old, faint smell of cigarette smoke. No soap, shower gel etc in the bathroom - to help save the planet apparently - you could request some at reception. We were woken about 6am by what I assume was some kind of water cistern behind one of the bedroom walls that sounded like a plane going over head. The party. Arrival time was stated as 7pm and most (about 180) turned up about then. We were all crowded into the bar which wasn't big enough and soon warmed up to a very uncomfortable temperature. They eventually let us in at 8pm. Drinks were astronomically expensive - £7.50 for a pint £8.20 for a Baileys or a large glass of wine (£25+ by the bottle) and £7.20 for a pint of coke!!!. The main course wasn't served until after 9pm and my beef was dry and tasteless, though others who had the turkey said it wasn't bad. And my Xmas pudding was dry too. All in all not somewhere I would ever go again and certainly don't know where it gets it 4 star rating from. I did voice most of my complaints to reception before leaving.

Have been coming here for over a year and their Panang curry is the best! Portion sizes are generous for price - we always have enough leftover for a good size meal the day following. Staff is friendly too

The service was friendly and the food absolutely first-rate. Can recommend the Ploughman’s which is loaded with cheese, really top notch ham, and lovely crusty bread. Would have loved to stay for cake but we were all too full.
