Not just a beautiful place to eat, but the food was top notch, as in cooed to perfection, presented well and served with a smile. Even the local clientele were very friendly and welcoming. We were greeted with a happy attitude, which settled us down for a great lunch. It was a Tuesday lunchtime, and just became busier throughout our stay, so booked early. I'm 71 and have to say it has been one of my best lunchtime experiences. It is also an historical place. Nice location by the river, room outside for dogs and even humans. Thank you to both of the staff in attendance.

England's Gate is a traditional British Pub and should be proud that it lives up such expectations. The food and the service was excellent. My wife had a steak which was very good. I had the steak and ale pie which was exceptional (especially for those who wish to have some comfort food occasionally . Pity more is not made of the 'pie of the day' as it was obviously hand crafted and had a very generous filling of tender and tasty steak. I was a little unsure of what I would get when ordering as the description and lead me to believe it might be 'brought in'. Top marks when it arrived and looked and tasted great. This (and perhaps other great items on the menu) should be heralded as a special dish (as it clearly was) . Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to go back and sample the food and atmosphere again. Super place, well above average food.

Absolutely awful woman (I use that word loosely) behind the bar....rude and sarcastic.... told us to go elsewhere if we didn't like it.....plus the prices were so expensive....... do yourself a favour and AVOID like the plague. I hope that barmaid loses her job.

Six of us had sandwiches of varying fillings and we shared some chips (homemade-delicious). We polished everything off and everyone was happy. Would recommend definitely.

Had the carvery, it was nice, but unfortunately no cauliflower cheese left which for us is a must with a roast. Staff were nice but not very organised, seems to lack a good figure head, for instance a table full of glasses were just walked passed a number of times. On leaving a staff member cutting the meat was stood outside puffing on a cigarette not nice to see, at least smoke in a discreet location .

Popped in for breakfast and was really disappointed when the breakfast arrived. If they had used smaller plates it wouldn’t have looked like a child’s meal. The only saving grace was the chipolata sausage tasted nice. The egg was overcooked and the half a mushroom was laughable. Not sure £9 is justifiable for this plus £2.30 for a small mug of tea. Sadly I won’t be returning

Rarely disappointed with Warners Holme Lacey .Apart from the occasional glitches as on this occasion the blue lift broke down and repairs were still ongoing when we left 48 hrs later. Considerable inconvenience to those disabled wheelchair users, but didnt affect us too much. I would however make a comment about the market kitchen restaurants food presentation. Most of the evening meals were tasty and served hot, unfortunately something not to be said of the fried breakfasts. Eggs and bacon etc cooked earlier and standing albeit on hot plates were far from an acceptable temperature by the the time one has sat down to eat it. Perhaps ordering something from the kitchen and fresh cooked is the answer in future visits. All said and done, not enough criticism to stop us visiting Holme Lacey which has long been one of our favourite venues.

Disappointing Breakfast. Ordered breakfast with no egg or beans. Asked for extra sausage and tomato and told I couldn’t have extra sausage as I would have to pay so had to replace the eggs and beans with extra tomato and mushroom which was not an issue. The breakfast was ok but not what I expected in a farm shop and artisan food shop. The sausage was very poor quality and the butter was Irish. I thought this restaurant supported local. Would not go again. Very average food in a great farm shop. Sad really.

We visited with family who live in the village, and joined the very well run and attended pub quiz. The Tarrington Arms is not a generic renovated pub, instead it retains it's original if slightly faded character, which adds to it's charm. It is also a friendly pub both in terms of staff and locals of all ages. A range of local beers and ciders are stocked, including real ales.

I have been here several times for tapas before and the food was excellent, unfortunately this time it was not. I will not be returning.

Why have a booking system? Seem to have been the only person to have booked a table, in an empty pub, for the City game, and they still managed to sit me and my family in front of a screen showing Liverpool! Piss up in a brewery springs to mind. Manager conspicuous by his absence....told he was unavailable the two times I asked to see him! Made worse by the need to sift through the cutlery to find a fork tgat was at least almost clean.
