Disappointing Breakfast. Ordered breakfast with no egg or beans. Asked for extra sausage and tomato and told I couldn’t have extra sausage as I would have to pay so had to replace the eggs and beans with extra tomato and mushroom which was not an issue. The breakfast was ok but not what I expected in a farm shop and artisan food shop. The sausage was very poor quality and the butter was Irish. I thought this restaurant supported local. Would not go again. Very average food in a great farm shop. Sad really.

Said online and sign outside that the pantry restaurant was open u til 4.30pm. My partner and I wanted a quick coffee outside in the sun. But we came to the door and were shouted across the restaurant by a blonde haired woman. "We're shut" even though people were still sat in the restaurant. I replied with "oh it says online and the HUGE sign on the main road that your open u til 4.30" she shouts back "nah it's wrong it's 4" What's happened to being kind and courteous? And just having bloody manners?! Since when has it even been right to shout across a restaurant to a customer? Re evaluate your staff.

My wife and I had a quick lunch while shopping in the over proced farmshop. I had the small quiche, which was very small for £9.95 and my wife had the brie panini, and when it arrived, it was a grilled baguette. When we told the Eastern European waitress, she rudely told us it was a panini and walked away. I ate my really small quiche and we left. Told told the waitress when I paid it was not a panini and she agreed. We left never to come back.

Went for Mother’s Day lunch having noted on the website that they cater for vegetarians at the carvery. Unfortunately the only vegetarian option was a frozen Findus ‘veggie burger’, which is basically a load of cheap squashed together vegetables, with yes, that’s right, accompanying vegetables from the carvery. This was priced at £12.95!!! These ‘burgers’ are available to buy (although not advisable) from any supermarket at £3. So disappointing that in 2024 when there are so many meat substitute products available (which provide necessary protein in the overall meal) that this restaurant felt that a disc of frozen vegetables was a fair offering. Hey! Oakchurch! The 1980’s phoned, they want their veggie burgers back!

Unfortunately the festive meal had run out in lunch service, so I had jacket potato cheese and beans and daughter had beef burger. I asked for cheese in pot as I'm trying to loose weight which it did come in so fair enough, except the potato was drowned in butter and the salad had dressing on it, this does not say this on the menu. My daughters beef burger had so much burger sauce that it spoilt the bun and the burger and made it too rich, again too much better in a pot so you can add the quantity you want she scraped as much off as she could to side but it ruined taste for her. The staff were friendly but one of the the waitress was so loud and too cheery it was getting annoying. Then when it came to paying it was such an antiquated system you didn't get a bill so had to queue for ages whilst a table wanted their bill split 7 ways surely in these modern times one till and this system is not efficent and needs to be reviewed. Also they should look at stock control and using ingredients where they are not needed, so they are loosing money.

Service excellent , food hot and O.K. Car park very dangerous with large holes, Marstons need to repair urgently before someone falls and claims compensation.

We stayed here overnight and booked the restaurant for our evening meal. Lovely staff, in a lovely surrounding. It’s a shame it was dark so we couldn’t see the views. Nice selection of starters, mains and desserts and we managed to enjoy all three. In the morning, the breakfast menu was plentiful and the sausage and bacon from a local butcher were very tasty.

England's Gate is a traditional British Pub and should be proud that it lives up such expectations. The food and the service was excellent. My wife had a steak which was very good. I had the steak and ale pie which was exceptional (especially for those who wish to have some comfort food occasionally . Pity more is not made of the 'pie of the day' as it was obviously hand crafted and had a very generous filling of tender and tasty steak. I was a little unsure of what I would get when ordering as the description and lead me to believe it might be 'brought in'. Top marks when it arrived and looked and tasted great. This (and perhaps other great items on the menu) should be heralded as a special dish (as it clearly was) . Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to go back and sample the food and atmosphere again. Super place, well above average food.
