Excellent carvery roast dinner. I’m a veggie and the Brie and mushroom wellington is delicious :) My partner is Gluten free you have to wait a little for the Yorkshire pud, collie & broccoli cheese and the gravy to be cooked which is absolutely fine and equally as yummy :) My son loves the play areas so when we are waiting for the food he can go off and play :)

The delay in the service was shocking considering they weren't very busy then to be served cold and burnt chicken was shocking I complained and still got served burnt chicken being told it was southern fried. Really bad experience.

We started with drinks, could not open a Tab as it was against the rules, so we paid that bill Would have liked cod and chips, but that was off the menu, so had the replacement plaice and chips, we were informed that they run out of peas, run out of peas ??? The plaice was devoid of fish !!! We had another round of drinks and then we were informed that they were closing the pub at 08.30 and would we like last orders, but we have completely run out of wine Really felt for the waitress but this is Faulty Towers

The server forgot to tell us that there was a delay with food so we waited over an hour for food to arrive at our table. There was hair in our halloumi batter to start. When the waitress took our plates she didn’t bother to speak to us which is rude. When main finally arrived nachos were soggy and floppy, burgers were half cooked, chips were dry, and the chicken and peppers with the fajita mix was tough. Would not recommend!

The staff are so so nice in here and the food is really good they have a carvery on sunday and wednesday bur if you don’t like carvery they also have a normal menu. Very good and accommodating and will let you change / remove items from the food you order if you don’t like it and can also add other items like extra of something on the plate. Would 100% recommend the staff are so lovely to everyone and would book in advance to secure spot since it’s mostly booked up and limited spaces.

Another disappointing experience! I keep trying, hoping that it will improve but my! Bar maid ignored my presence and when eventually served, had all the charm of someone having undergone a successful charisma bypass. Again no draught ale available as is usual here. At least there is a choice of one ale which is an improvement on last visit but not to be again this time. Disappointing as this is my local and they have spent money on improving the rear garden which despite the promise board that it is a riverside pub, doesn’t actually back on to the river wye. Why?

Absolutely awful. We booked months in advance and paid a deposit for a Christmas platter. We were given a table in the bar instead of the restaurant, next to the gents toilets which was very unpleasant and smelled. Drunk people constantly in and out of the toilet. The table surface was sticky. Food didn’t arrive for an hour and a half and was cold when it was served. Very little food there and it appeared to be cheap supermarket party food that had been reheated/defrosted. When we complained and said it wasn’t worth the money the proprietor was rude and aggressive and asked us to leave.

Went for lunch ordered the lasagna but you had to pay extra for chips, which is ok,but what arrived was very very disappointing for the money, didn't look anything like the picture, lasagna was very small portion in a dish, and the chips I got for £1.50 I've had more in a chip butty,so i won't be eating here again for what you get it's expensive pub grub.

We had a Sunday Carvery, the food was beautifully cooked, a good selection of vegetables and a very tasty gravy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely go again and in fact have booked for a bigger family group in December. Competitively priced made it value for money, can recommend it.

I have been to the Wye Inn a few times and have never been disappointed but this time!! I took my 8 year old Granddaughter for a treat. We moved first as there were kids screaming in the inside play area. Chose our food and waited and waited, there were probably three other tables as well as ours - so hardly run off their feet. It was like the YT's had been left in charge. I got someone else's order - apology given. We had beef burger for my Granddaughter and it was as flat as a pancake, vile looking thing. I forgot to ask for cheese and had to add an additional £1 for the privilege of the most pathetic amount of cheese going. My Granddaughter was given baby plastic plates that spun round and round on the table. Food in my granddaughters words was the worst she had ever eaten out. I agreed fully. There was no 'back up check' to see if everything was alright. Half the time the bar was un manned. We had ordered a 'kids' meal with a jelly pot chosen by us (such imagination). We just got up and left before any dessert was served. Nipped to the loo and our dirty plates were still on the table when we walked back by. Poor Service, lackadaisical manner. totally unappetising food. Plus side - peas were good! Wow. The pub on the whole is a nice place with plenty of seating, but get your act together and some decent staff too. It used to be cheap and good quality - now it's more expensive and nasty quality.

If I could have left no stars, I would have as 1 star suggests there was something good in this experience. The staff were rude and had some serious attitude. You would think it’s Karen’s diner because the language was appalling. They obviously think that if you are over 30, you suffer with poor hearing. The place was dirty, the tables sticky and the food was inedible. We didn’t complain as we could tell quite quickly that there would be absolutely no point as the attitude from the staff was apparent. In fact i guarantee that I will get a scathing backlash to this review, rather than take is as constructive. Most business people would make an effort to win customers back but I see from previous comments, the ‘manager’ prefers to argue and put the final nail in the coffin. Looking forward to your response to this 🤌

We used to visit fairly often late 2014/early 2015 as we lived nearby. The food was never brilliant but the 2 4 6 menu made up for it. So this morning as we were over that way we decided to pop in, I wish we hadn't. My breakfast managed to be mostly raw but burnt on the edges as if it had been pushed against a griddle for a couple of seconds. Most of it was inedible so I left it. To top it all off everything on the menu is twice the price now. Having said that the bar staff are as lovely as ever.

My husband and I arrived just before 7pm last night. There were a few people having drinks in the small lounge area, a group of about 6 and a couple. We had not made a booking but the restaurant was completely empty. The two young wome behind the bar took one look at us, mumbled something to each other and then told us that we couldn't have a table for at least an hour. No explanation as to why this was the case, possibly they had a large party coming but they didn't say or even appear to care. We felt dismissed and although we regularly visit the area we will never Ono there again.

Arrived at the Wye and first impressions were "cheap and cheerful". Menu had good choices on it, and prices were very cheap which is good and bad. I guess you get what you pay for, and although starters were lovely, my steak had to be sent back as needed a couple more minutes on the grill. When it came back was cooked lovely, my partner opted for the mix grill, and although the majority of the meal was ok, the steak that was on there tasted and smelled off and out of date. Both myself and partner work in the restaurant business and were disappointed when we queried the steak with a senior member of staff who told us he rotated the stock on a regular basis....obviously not regularly enough. We didn't want any refund or sought any compensation, as the rest of the meal was fine, but we both thought that it should be brought to attention.

Called in while visiting family wish we had not bothered. The food was appalling no cookery skill involved. Perhaps the correct term would be microwave operative as there's no skill involved here. It was embarrassing to be served such rubbish and stupidly we did complain thinking about it now we should have refused it but hind sight is no good. I am not sure how this can be called a restaurant because restaurants normally have chefs who know what to do rubbish the only good thing is we live in London and have no reason to return to this awful place. Also staff not the most helpful it's a shame because after last review we had hoped it would be OK .

We stayed here overnight and booked the restaurant for our evening meal. Lovely staff, in a lovely surrounding. It’s a shame it was dark so we couldn’t see the views. Nice selection of starters, mains and desserts and we managed to enjoy all three. In the morning, the breakfast menu was plentiful and the sausage and bacon from a local butcher were very tasty.

England's Gate is a traditional British Pub and should be proud that it lives up such expectations. The food and the service was excellent. My wife had a steak which was very good. I had the steak and ale pie which was exceptional (especially for those who wish to have some comfort food occasionally . Pity more is not made of the 'pie of the day' as it was obviously hand crafted and had a very generous filling of tender and tasty steak. I was a little unsure of what I would get when ordering as the description and lead me to believe it might be 'brought in'. Top marks when it arrived and looked and tasted great. This (and perhaps other great items on the menu) should be heralded as a special dish (as it clearly was) . Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to go back and sample the food and atmosphere again. Super place, well above average food.
