This is a fantastic pub with excellent owners...the pints are great and priced well. This is my local and favorite pub as it is a very calm environment. They do have excellent music events on which I have attended. From a range of acoustic nights to DNB. They have also just started Sunday roasts 12-4pm. Myself and my friends had a big roast and it was FANTASTIC! WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! 😁

This pub has forever been one of my favourites. A fantastic themed victory ship pub with ship features to the bar, nets and other naval items scattered around and bonus, they have an on site brewery. So why the 3 star review? At one point the pub had consistent opening times, a good selection of on site brewed (Hereford brewery, previously spinning dog brewery) ales on tap (usually Owd Bull, Aurora Weissbier and HLA) and a few others (including milestone and some local ciders). As time went on, it became very neglected. Opening hours are inconsistent (no idea if it's open or not, you just have to go there and hope it is), broken parts of the pub weren't repaired and even the ales brewed on site were hit and miss (sometimes tasted off/sour). All I can say about it now is I've been there 3 times quite recently on different days at different times and each time the pub wasn't open. It seems now they only open to do the occasional pub quiz and for the skittles/darts team. Such a shame as even though it's slightly away from the town centre, it's a great looking pub with the brewery on site which makes it more than worth a visit (consistent opening hours would be a start). 20/12/2023 - Another star lost. They've now changed hands and have set opening times which is good but seem to have done away with brewery activities opting to serve Wye valley butty, hopfather and a seasonal. What reason do people have to visit there now? It's slightly out of town and now offers the same as the barrels (and many other pubs). I can't see any reason to visit there at all anymore. The brewery should have been a priority as they had their own exclusive ales and with consistent opening times would pull people back in again. Mark my words it will be closed again in 2024, maybe for good next time.

Sadly a visit to this pub was a disappointment. My first gin was a pink gin rather than even a cheap standard one as the young girl behind the bar said to my husband it was all they had!! the tiny bit of tonic added was flat...No ice or lemon. I went to the bar myself for a second. The bar was grubby and the whole pub is in sad need of a deep clean I at least got a normal gin and small bottle of tonic this time, had to ask for the one ice cube I got and no lemon was offered. My daughter's lemonade and lime came complete with a previous customers lipstick. Another friend had a pint of Stowfords which he couldn't drink....he was convinced it wasn't a Stowfords. It was a real shame as we there for a family birthday so didn't want to make a fuss. This pub used to be very popular and I am sure be so again with some hard graft cleaning it up, training their bar staff properly and remembering customers want quality drinks.

A true stalwart of the emerging micro and small brewery scene in the 1980s, it survives to this day producing and serving Hereford Brewery ales. The interior is very large and goes back a considerable way to the rear; this is set out as a pastiche of a sailing galleon. Kitsch yes, but all good fun. There is even the vestige of an old skittle alley back there. Recommended.

I have just edited and corrected my review because I typed it up on my mobile phone previously. Now i'm at my computer I can fully detail the review and explain my reasons for it. What prompted me to make the review was the incident with the new rude bar staff (Ryan), but I had other reasons which made the score so low.The incident was with a new and very rude bar staff member who charged me full price for a pint during happy hour. At first with all the changes happening to the pub I gathered happy hour must have been stopped so paid the full £2.80 for that pint. I went and sat down, then left my pint and bag at the table to go out for a cigarette. As I walked to go outside, I asked this new member of bar staff if happy hour had stopped. He said he didn't know. I turned, saw the happy hour sign and pointed it out to him. He replied saying "well I only pressed the button for that ale and that's the price it came up as". There were no offers made to refund me.After my cigarette, I came back in and saw my remaining half pint had been taken away. I asked the bar guy about it who said he thought I said I was going off to the barrels (which I certainly didn't say). He was rude in the way he said he would pour what I had left into a new pint glass. Less than what I had left was poured for me (approx 1/3rd of a pint). His overall attitude was disgusting and I told him I would be writing a review to reflect my experience and saying to the owner about it. His reply was "you do that then".When I finished the beer and left, the guy at the bar was smirking at me and shaking his head.I'm not complaining about being charged £1 more or missing out on a few sips of beer. It was his attitude surrounding this which to be honest, if he worked in most other pubs with that attitude, he would be collecting his p45 and off looking for a new job.Now while I'm at it, although it was that bar staff that prompted this review, I will just mention other reasons why I'm giving it a 1* review. The pub has gone downhill significantly. It has so much to offer but has been going downhill for years. The beer is hit and miss. Some days it could taste ok, but other days it's so bad it is difficult to sip down without gagging. A lot of people have described it as the worst tasting beer in hereford. This is even more of a shame because out the back is their own brewery. They used to do a bigger selection of their own brews and also sell it in polypins and in bottles, but not anymore. The interior has huge potential and it's pretty quirky as it's themed like the HMS victory naval ship, but it's been neglected a fair bit. The toilets are not that pleasant, the pub area feels dirty and some wooden fixtures (like the shelf underneath the dart board) are broken. They have a large open log fire which is another great asset to the pub but rarely is it even lit.Even with these problems I continued to visit the pub when I could because bar staff were friendly and when the owd bull ale is as it should be, it's quite a nice beer to drink. Now though, purely because of that new staff member I wont return ever again. I don't expect to be spoken to like dirt by staff when going for a quiet pint. Especially when it was them at fault.

If you like wooden interiors then The Victory is the place for you. Not only that but the name of the pub is reflected in the decor which is like the inside of a galleon. The main bar is the side of a man'o'war and ropes and masts abound. The pub also has a huge outside deck area which is great in the summer. Inside a log fire crackles away and the well kept ales slip down easily. The landlord is a character and during 2016/17 is also the City Mayor! This is not a foodie pub but Sunday lunch is hearty.
