Just had 2 carveries. Extremely disappointed. Inedible roast potatoes. Dried out vegetables. Can't have edible cauliflower cheese because it is difficult apparently Just because it was evening there is no excuse for poor food and not cheap compared to other carveries. Avoid . Staff avoided us.

Went for a carvery at approximately 4:30 pm. The meat was dry and over cooked. The vegetables were not fresh and I gad to wait for roast potatoes. Considering it is over £14 for a medium carvery, I will not be going back for a carvery and would be reluctant to go there for any meal. The lager was fine

My family and extended family dined here over Christmas period the 27th of December and the way they were treated I will be emailing the manager myself . My parents are pensioners and I am not impressed in the slightest. I am a manager in hospitality and have been for 23 years. My family always pay and leave a nice tip even if it isn’t great as problems can occur it’s life. No wonder places are failing it was my Mothers birthday and I am appalled at how you treated my father especially! I will be making a telephone call to EHO also perhaps they need to make a spot check visit! Treat people with respect in service throughout why in hospitality we are paid to serve and deliver.

Would never go there again.most of the food they had sold out off .if you liked pasta that was roughly what you could have to eat.so we ordered chips with peppercorn sauce .waited 35 mins.just for chips.when they arrived they looked like they been warmed up about 5times they weren't nice .then got told they had been freshly cooked for us .soon went back and got refund.the men behind the bar were like twiddle de twiddle dum.u do that I finish what you doing .when moaning about the mess customers had left the tables do it so other customers can't hear what your saying.customer pays your wages.apart from my drink u didn't get much wages from me

We booked this pub/restaurant for a meal after attending the races. As it was Christmas they only offered a Christmas menu. I explained it would not suit me so they agreed to offer the normal menu if we pre-ordered and paid a deposit. The setting was lovely and not over crowded. The staff we polite, friendly and professional. The food was exceptional and I will definitely return.

Booked here for a Christmas meal , bar staff very pleasant , table dressed well with crackers and party poppers , no atmosphere though , the starters were good , the beef was inedible , the(frozen) roast potatoes were hard in places and the gravy was tasteless and runny , the veg was the best thing about the meal . No one came to ask if everything was ok with the food so we had to find someone to complain to ,the owner,who decided that he would knock off £2.50 off each beef meal , which was an insult on a £35 set meal to which the meat was not edible . Would we book to go next year definitely not !!

Used to come in quite regular, but hadn’t been in since the NEW OWNERS/MANAGEMENT had taken over. We had to wait 20 minutes before a drinks order was taken. When asked what we would like, one of the people in our party asked “ what lagers do you have please” so the guy waiting on us didn’t know, so had to go and check ( there was only 4 to choose from). We eventually ordered drinks ( £4.00 for a Diet Coke) which I thought was quite expensive, and then tried to order some food. Im currently on a diet so asked for Steak, with just salad, and the other person ordered a “ Pie”. ( the pie was actually a bowl of stew, with a pasty top over the top). When the food came out after a 55 minute wait, the food was wrong. The steak came out with Chips, Onion rings, tomatoes and sliced happy shopper mushrooms. Not ONCE did anyone come over and make sure that everything was okay, not ONCE were we offered any sauces with our meal ( basic tomato ketchup or Mayonnaise as example). And neither did they ask if I wanted a steak knife, to go with, well, my steak? I asked for my steak to be cooked medium, and it came out as tough as old boots, chewy, the chips ( which I wasn’t eating anyway were cold). I think they had been cooked on the radiator! So anyway, as the steak was inedible, I politely told the manager who then just set stared at me, and didn’t apologise, ask if I wanted a replacement or take the feed back well! After waiting for a good 20 minutes once we had finished eating, I then had to go and ask for the bill, as we were waiting to go, and the plates still hadn’t been cleared, nore were we asked if we wanted any more drinks. If they were busy, I could totally understand, but the fact that there was only one other table in there, who had sandwiches, I thought this was poor, especially as it was under new management and you’d of thought they’d want to set an example. When I then went to the til, to complain politely about the food, I was then told by the manager “ well you’re lying! There’s nothing wrong with that steak, I’ve just been into the kitchen and cut through it with a butter knife” I then said, I cook steak regularly and that was not acceptable, which he stated at me with a face of thunder! I asked what is he going to do in regards to taking the food off the bill, and he replied very angrily “ I’ve taken the steak off!!!” I did also mention the fact that the meal came out as standard, and not as requested as I was on a diet. To which he very rudely replied “ well, you didn’t ask us for dietary requirements” every other pub/ restaurant I’ve been to, they ask about dietary requirements BEFORE they take your order, and not when you’re paying the bill! The manager then, took the steak off the bill after arguing back with me for 10 minutes, in all this I’d never felt so uncomfortable, ever, being a customer! He didn’t like my feed back, and refused to accept the fact that the food wasn’t great, by raising his voice and arguing with me. We eventually paid for the drinks and the other meal and left. This wasn’t it though! As we then LEFT the pub, and walked up the road, me and my partner walked on, and my other friend and his partner ( 3 months pregnant with a toddler) were talking on the phone up the road from the pub, and THE MANAGER chased them up the road, interrupting their phone call and asked where I was!! So the manager, left the pub, ran up the road after us to argue with us again!! My friend asked him, “ what are you doing mate? Why have you chased us up the road!? To which he replied “ where’s your fiend! He’s made me very angry!!” I honestly cannot believe this happened. This sounds like a comedy sketch, and a lot of you reading this, must think this is a joke, but it’s really not. THE MANAGER RAN UP THE ROAD after us, to tell us he was angry with our feedback!! For the love of god, if you’re thinking of eating anywhere in Hereford, DO NOT COME HERE!!! 0/5.

Please note *UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT* in order of minor to MAJOR 1. We were not once offered any sauces with our food so went without as staff were out of site (despite it being very quiet) 2. The food took 55 minutes to come out despite there only being one other group in the whole restaurant. 3. The food was luke warm, despite the 55 minute wait. Very average tasting food for myself, my friend however, was very dissatisfied and did not eat his, as well as the order itself being wrong. 4. MAJOR - my friend approached the bar staff to say that he was not happy with his food, the order being wrong etc.. who I assume is the manager, Just stared at him and was unapologetic and even argued with my friend to say that his opinion on the food was wrong. Myself and my partner paid our bill without complaint and left the pub…THEN while walking down the street, the pub manager appeared, stood in front of ourselves and our toddler and demanded to know where our friend was! We said it was nothing to do with us, we had paid our bill and gone our separate ways, he went on to say he was angry and unhappy that our friend had complained about the food in front of customers (where else was he supposed to do it?!?) also as if this person had showed any professionalism or manners thus far! Myself and my partner had to tell the man that we were offended he had FOLLOWED us, CONFRONTED us in street and DEMANDED to know where our friend had gone?!?!? It’s actually unbelievable when I think about it! What a terrible experience, terrible food, terrible service, terrible professionalism and well…basic manners or restraint?! RIDICULOUS

I went here with a friend to watch a local band play and have a few drink. Prompt service by friendly staff. Will definitely visit again.

Not big enough for me and my dog inside. It's awkward sitting outside as you need to go into the bar to get your drinks. However it's a very popular pub. It could do with a serving hatch and bigger indoor space.

Can't rate the food as I haven't tried it....yet. The staff are friendly and the beer garden is good and quite the sun trap. The DJ/ vibe is quite 'Cafe del Mar' and balearic on weekends. Week days are a quieter affair and good for an after work drink.

Disappointed really as this pub was one I frequently attended 54 yeas ago when their steak sandwiches were to die for. I took my husband as the menu on the website looked promising and he was looking forward to the steak. However although the surroundings were great and the service was very good the menu we were offered was the summer menu not the one advertised. My Husband chose the steak kebab and satay sauce with flat bread? Although the steak was good the satay sauce was too liguidy and lacking in flavour and a salad was served on top off the flat bread not really presented well. We ordered a starter of olives with focaccia bread but this came with our main meal so was wasted really. My salmon with linguini was better than advertised as instead of smoked salmon it was poached salmon which I preferred and was delicious,, if a little cooker not piping hot. The wine was excellent. I hade desert of ice cream which in fact was Rick hard and tasted more sorbet than ice cream. The waiter was excellent.

Not that full during the day. Told they had skysports. They didn't. Best tender put the highlights on from the day before so we bought drinks only to find out no cricket on show. In fairness when full I'm the evenings probably a good but not great pub

Dissatisfied with our lunch. Due to a hot day went for the salads. Which was tasteless, three small pieces of salmon, and dried up chicken on the Caesar salad. Noone came to our table so went to the bar to pay. Greeted my the owner who I informed of our dissatisfaction. He said did you tell anyone I said no one had come to ask us. At this point he walked off. No compensation or a drink to smooth things over. Would not recommend this ,and will not be going again.

The venue has been recently made over and is very pleasant inside. The staff were very friendly. However, the food was very hit and miss. I definitely ordered the wrong thing - smoked salmon and toasted pine nut salad. How can anyone go wrong with that?? Well, they can! This was a bowl full of lettuce leaves, not so much dressed as drenched with oil, possible one whole sliced spring onion - might have been half of one - some pine nuts, not toasted, and around 4 slivers of poor quality smoked salmon. I managed to eat the salmon and a few forks full of soggy leaves before admitting defeat. I then had the privilege of paying £11 for that! In usual circumstances I would have sent it back and asked for something else as a colleague had the beef Ragu which said said was fairly good. However this was a business lunch so it wasn’t appropriate to complain at the time. After we left, another colleague said her fish and chips (which she left pretty much uneaten) were greasy, while another said her burger was fine but again, left her chips because too greasy. This is under new management- the pub has changed numerous times over recent years. Unless they up their standards on the food front, this owner will soon be gone too. We won’t be returning.

First time visit last week, will be back without issue.

We visited here today with our chocolate Labrador, Hershey. We will definitely be returning! The owners of the pub were incredibly friendly and so welcoming! It's an extremely dog friendly pub although we sat in the garden as it was sunny! We ordered a fish goujon baguette and two small plates of teriyaki pork belly and beef satay skewers. All the food was absolutely lovely and we can't wait to go back! We also had an Aperol spritz and a beer and they were fab. If you're in the area then we highly recommend!!!

Great lunch today, one of party is gluten and dairy free, but Sophie and Craig came up trumps. Lovely venue just by the cathedral, got to be worth a visit of you're in Hereford. 5*

I always like to give a place with new owners a couple of chances as I think everyone can have an off day. The first time we went in February my husband had the moules which were really good. I, unfortunately had fish and chips. The fish was greasy and plonked on top of the chips making everything oily. Not good. Today decided to pop in for Sunday lunch. The two of us started with the vegetable soup with toast. It came out with white sliced bread not toasted. The soup was thick and cold and pretty bland so it went back and we asked if they could toast the bread. When it came back out my husband had a full stock cube in it which I mixed into my soup in hope of giving it more flavour. The “chef” had managed to toast the bread on the one side. We left as we felt if they can’t get soup right what would the main course be like. This isn’t a reflection of the staff. We found them to be very pleasant and attentive. Sadly won’t be chancing it again.

Had a buffet lunch for our choir and friends - (group of 34) who were singing the services at the Cathedral. We only had a short time available between services to eat. Craig and his team laid on a great buffet and couldn’t have been more helpful. They even provided takeaway boxes for us to take home leftovers - very welcome for the long drive home. They set aside an area for us to use exclusively and were very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Would recommend for anyone requiring a similar group event.

First time visiting under the new management. Although all the staff where very nice and the prices where fair. I found the food wasn't very good. Starting with the pork belly bites, which where dry and hard, although they where covered in teriyaki sauce you could still taste how dry they where. The 1k muscles dish was overwhelming and lacking flavour and presentation. The sauce was thin and sat at the bottom of the bowl with none of it touching the muscles at all. The sauce also lack much flavour. Found that quite alot of the muscles where smashed and broken which left me feeling uneasy and afraid that they might of been forced open, which is a big no no in preparing muscles. The other dish we had was a club sandwich the menu stated it came with chips and a side salad. It actually came with crisps which were very plain and had no flavour at all. The salad was two pieces of pepper and some lettuce with no dressing or dressing offered. As for the sandwich it was flavour less. The mayo was cheap and had a watery texture and the bread was thin and fell apart as I tried to eat it. Over all the experience was disappointing. I would of said something but as a small female I felt intimidated by the amount of male staff on shift, and seeing the chef walking around with a angry expression on his face I didn't feel comfortable talking about his food to him . May try here again at another time. Hope things improve because the energy of the place is pleasant.

Great pub hidden away down an alley, dog friendly pub/restaurant with a great menu with everything from fresh Pizza, Fresh Mussels to Salads and Snacks. Little wait as everything is made fresh but staff looked after us with drinks and lollies for the kids! Our server Sophie was gr8!

Three stars at a push. Went for Sunday lunch. Starter arrived after 20 minutes and it was not what I ordered. So sent it back straight away and waited another 10 mins at least for what I had actually ordered. Then for main.......roast chicken was best part.....watery gravy, inedible roast potatoes (there's well done and then there's inedible), cauliflower and brocolli coated in what was best described as bland cheesy water (should have been cauliflower cheese), some strange concoction that involved mangetout and I think beetroot (??) Couldn't tell as was overcooked and bland. Unfortunately no time for desert as two courses took over an hour. Not good enough. Mediocre service and bland food. Plenty of better establishments in city centre for Sunday roast. Will not be back here.

A bit of a disappointing experience. The staff were friendly and found us a table, although they’d lost our booking. We had to wait approx 25 mins before we could order food as they were busy. This was a Saturday evening and being busy should be expected. Food was distinctly average. I had the fish and chips which is the most expensive item on the menu at £14.50. What I expected and what I got were very different. The fish was small, more batter than fish. The triple cooked chips weren’t available so I had fries. It wasn’t presented too well and just seemed way overpriced. A chip shop is better value. The management did offer us a free round of drinks to make up for the booking error. Won’t be returning in a hurry, unfortunately.

When friends recommended this establishment to my party of four, mentioning a change in management, I had it in mind that the service and food would likely be excellent. Sort of a 'pulling out all the stops' thing; as many new hospitality venues do. Unfortunately, we were to be disappointed. In truth, disappointment was the primary feeling we would take away with us. Meat that was overcooked and would have challenged a hyena's dentistry, vegetables also overcooked to the point that texture and flavour were no longer even a memory, and presentation that did nothing to add to the experience but was, at least, consistent with the overall preparation. However, as unpalatable as all this was. It was the attitude of the owner/ manager/ chef that truly made it the sort of experience one tries very hard to forget. Rather than welcoming feedback or being receptive to legitimate complaints he was dismissive and abrupt. Some of the staff did seem to have an idea what their role was in a hospitality environment but if the gentleman in question had ever studied his role then the materials must have leaned heavily towards Fawlty Towers. Suffice it to say, if the food had been a fraction as good as this fellow was bombastic, overbearing and belligerent, it might have compensated for his misplaced robust defence of his cuisine. Maybe we just visited at the wrong time. But if the proprietor responds to disappointed customers like a kicked honey badger in every instance one struggles to see that there are many right times.

We were here for Mother Day celebrations but unfortunately the occasion was spoilt by the awful service & quality of the food. The fish was supposed to be unwrapped in front of you, it wasn’t, the Welsh lamb rump was massively under cooked & the roast potatoes were definitely not roasted.We waited nearly 30 minutes between the starter & main course, unacceptable.A complementary bottle of wine was offered to us but unbelievably it had already been opened & used.We definitely do not recommend this restaurant.

We all arrived at 12.45pm and were booked in for 1pm. They didn’t take our order until 1,45pm and it didn’t arrive till 2,15 pm. My pork belly was so overcooked I couldn’t chew it and the crackling was completely soft.the only nice thing about the food was the roast potatoes which were amazing. They asked if we wanted dessert and three of us said can we get it straight away as our car park was up at 3,20pm. They said yes but at 3,20pm it hadn’t arrived so had to go. They tried to make me pay for a dessert I hadn’t had which I refused and told them to cancel it. They got quite nasty. Our group of 15 will never go there again.

The food was amazing and the staff were really friendly and helpful. I had the beef ragu which was so good but I was so jealous of my partner's spread burger.

Pleasant atmosphere, but limited menu

Lovely. This place jas just reopened, and me, my boy, wife and the in-laws tried it. It was really nice! Brilliant portions, staff couldn't do enough, even gave my boy free ice cream. Will definitely go back. Only feedback (not a complaint, feedback) is that the food could have been a bit hotter, but it's week 2. Place has definitely got potential! See ya again soon.

We stopped on the off chance that they were serving food at 5pm. Very warm welcome. Dog friendly. Excellent moules. They have only been open a fortnight; we wish them well.

All looked promising until we noticed other diners waiting for their meals. We asked how long the wait would be and told 40-45 minutes , then corrected to 10-15. We waited 35mins. Our server got our drinks order wrong. The children's meals had been "lost"...

Awful.food...awful.attitude....had to return my pasta and garlic.bread because it was cold.. cam back obviously microwaved so.bread was like.bullets and pastaa was mush.. and tasteless. .with no meat. Didn't eat and politely asked for it to be removed from our bill. It wasnt ...gave ten pound...

Amazing service to go with the amazing Sunday lunch! The beef and pork were cooked to perfection. Staff were super friendly and couldn’t do enough for us and the dog!! We will definitely be returning, thank you!

We went for Christmas Dinner, we had a nice time, the food was good, service was excellent, very attentive.

Up until a few years ago, the Spread was a great pub, we called in for a few drinks whilst out shopping. However ordering drinks was a not as straight forward as it should be. We ordered a couple of pints and some cocktails, this is where the eagles wings were clipped. The staff working had to constantly check the ingredients for the drinks, and when the order was finalised I asked why hadn't the cocktails got any ice, and the reply was 'We've ran out of ice'. A few minutes had passed and a group next to us ordered cocktails and the drinks contained so much ice. Unfortunately at this rate not even the best vet in the world can save this dying Eagle.

Always great food, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.

The first thing that caught my attention was a supermarket trolley in the bar loaded with logs for the fire. The second was the dilapidated décor and furniture. the third was £12-60 for a pint of beer and a double gin!

Wow, had the bottomless brunch on Saturday evening. Food was impeccable, choice of drinks superb but the service was out of this world. Seb you made our evening and kept us topped up with cocktails and Prosecco for the full 90 minutes. Thank you for all your hard work. We will definitely be returning

Went on recommendation but all 4 of us had something wrong with our meal, chips and onion rings, coleslaw didn't arrive, even after we pointing it out. Plates were cold, wilting salad obviously had been sat too long, already dressed with balsamic......young waitresses spent too...

How many places can you have an excellent lunch with drinks for under a tenner ? We shared probably the best roast beef sandwich ( rare ) with horseradish, coleslaw & a basket of excellent chips with a pint & a half of Butty Bach...

Called here in the afternoon for a few drinks - lovely on a hot day! Booked a table (last one informed) and returned that night expecting a packed pub, but no, plenty of tables. Bar staff insisted on holding our bank card in the till (not secure!) in case we left!! Not great, considering when we collected it the waitress advised ours was the only one in the till. Food choices were poor (third option available was the fish and chips for me), have to say was not of a good quality. It's a shame as this pub seemed full of charm and character. Good level of cleanliness though...

Visited without notice and had a lovely meal . It was very quiet but we had delightful attentive service and at a very reasonable price.

We went to The Spread Eagle for a late lunch we came across walking to the cathedral. The staff were brilliant and very attentive. They had a great system in place to maximise social distancing and the tables were placed far apart. We had sandwiches with homemade chips, the portion size was amazing no light lunch here! We had a steak sandwich and a fish finger sandwich, both meals were well presented and cooked beautifully. We were shocked when the bill came how cheap it was, value for money was excellent. We would make a beeline for there next time we visit Hereford.

Fantastic place for an inexpensive but high quality meal. The food was fantastic, the staff were lovely and so helpful. The venue was well organised and Covid secure. We had two meals here during our short stay in Hereford and would thoroughly recommend it.

We visited here after arriving in Hereford early evening. Nice welcome with good social distancing in place. Food was lovely with chunky home made chips and the beer was good. Would definitely visit again.

Went here as a couple tonight. Had a pleasant welcoming, Was quickly taken to our seats, very socially distanced from the next table over. Our drinks orders were taken straight away and then we were given time to decide what we wanted to eat. Very friendly waitress took our orders. The wait for food wasn't long. Food was all delightful especially the garlic mushrooms Home made chips are always a winner. My partners steak was cooked to perfection and everything was seasoned wonderfuly. The Bueno cheesecake was amazing If you're lucky enough to visit when it's on the menu.. Try it I am a very anxious person in public even before covid-19 but I felt extremely relaxed & happy. Thank you for looking after both your staff and customers.The only thing Is I was a bit cold (but I do get cold easy anyway so could be me)

Booked a table for bank Holiday Monday for a little treat and also the last day of eat out to help out. Easy to book. Quick message on Facebook and replied within minutes. Social distance perfectly, plenty of hand sanitizer around the place. Order sirloin steak which came with homemade chips, peas, mushrooms and grill tomatoes. My partner order homemade beef lasagne came with garlic bread. We ordered 3 side orders, homemade chips, garlic mushrooms and onion rings. Food was bloody delicious. Decent size meals. We also had dessert which was lovely, I ordered chocolate brownie with ice cream and my partner order bueno cheese cake with ice cream. If you decide to try this place you won't be disappointed but bring a jacket it's a bit cold inside

Ate here today whilst looking around for somewhere. Friendly and accommodating staff. The food we all had was really nice and despite not eating out all that often we'll certainly return.

My partner and I had an excellent meal in the spread last week, we had actually booked into a nearby restaurant but we left due to a grossly overpriced and unappealing menu. We walked over to the spread knowing it was busy and they might not be able to fit us in however we had the most warm welcome , they fitted us in and served us a delicious homely lasagne And a perfectly cooked steak a with the best peppercorn sauce my partner had ever tasted. The service we received was second to none and food was wonderful and it’s nice to see the guidelines are in place to keep everybody safe and able to enjoy a good evening out again Thanks to all we will be back again very soon.

Sunday Lunch was excellent. Great portion size and variety of vegetables as well as good value for money. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly and we would definitely recommend a visit. Would advise booking so as to not disappoint if full.

Contacted the Spread to see if you could book tables to watch the FA Cup final outside. They were excellent in everything they did in these difficult times. They were very helpful with the booking and the service on the day was top notch. We arrived early, but that wasn’t a problem. They explained where we would be sat and asked if that was ok, got our drinks and showed us to the table. They came out a couple of times to check everything was ok with where we were sat. The beer was good too. A very enjoyable experience with excellent staff who have done a brilliant job of implementing the Covid procedures to ensure safety.Didn’t eat this time, but have eaten here lots of times before and the food is excellent and good value.

We had a good evening meal at The Spread Eagle. Glorified standard pub menu really, but the food was very good. We were served quickly, with no issues with the order. Staff were friendly and happy. Really comfortable, relaxed pub.

Wonderful pub near the Cathedral. Our dream team, Westies were welcomed with open arms. We had some of the best kept beer we had found and the baguettes off the 'light bite' menu was more than we could eat and delicious too.
