The best restaurants serving British food in West Midlands

Booked a table to be told most of the set menu was sold. Staff seemed flustered. But not very busy,took 20 mins for drinks to be brought to table as waitress forgot about us. Food order taken again 40 min wait to be brought food that was over cooked and drowing in vinegar as a dressing. Asked us on paying how was the meal advised it was just ok. Not what it used to be at all. Would we go back No. Shame used to be lovely there. Looks tired and a cool atmosphere down in the ditch.

Fantastic meal, and such a delight that the Stagg Inn, now reopened under a lovely, family team with a top chef, is now back to 'the Stagg' that my partner and I have known and loved for, well, getting on for 30 years. Halibut in a good strong lobster sauce served with samphire; local dry aged fillet steak done rare, exactly as requested, with peppercorn and thyme sauce, oyster mushroom, and great big fat crispy chips; starters were prawns marie rose in a tangy sauce, and scallopsnwitblack pudding, and garlic and herb butter. And, as if inheriting the old Stagg DNA, cointreau and nutmeg creme brulee and baked orange cheesecake as desserts. And local ale Butty Bach on tap. I very much regret to have read one or two unwarrantedly snarky recent reviews on this site, which is why I'm posting this one. Yes, their ebulliant staff member, a delightful and seriously accomplished young person, undertakes diligently her duties of ensuring that diners are happy with the service; which we were. Yes, the restaurant has been tastefully refurbished, ahead of reopening under this great new team. Is Actually, that is as one might expect. And finally, yes, they're not the cheapest, but that's because they're a seriously good restaurant with a Michelin star. And friendly too. Superb meal - well done, guys!

Great place with lovely food and very friendly staff. Amber who served us went above and beyond. She helped us with our order as there was so much choice. Charlotte the head chef is great and such a good chef. We will definitely be back.

Great large Sunday lunch, good quantities of meat, all the meal cooked brilliantly. One of the best Sunday Roasts I have had in a while. Good beer and staff provided a relaxed friendly service, well worth a visit again.

Food was amazing had 2 curry's of the week the place is nice and clean and staff are nice only giving 4 stars because it's a bit expensive or would of give 5 but overall brilliant thankyou 😀

My family and i attended one of the special Christmas dinners laid on later on a Saturday evening in mid December. From the welcome to the food and the service - everything was superb. The restaurant was decorated for the full Christmas experience, (see photos) and a resident guitarist. In fact I was quite full by the end of the night! The turkey was done to perfection - thank you. Will definitely return next year.

We came to stay in Dovedale for the weekend and were very fortunate to have called into the Coach and Horses for lunch on the way to the hotel. We ended coming back for dinner that night and the next night too. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and we were made to feel very welcome. The food was absolutely amazing which was what made us come back again the second evening. Lovely open fires on a cold night added to the ambience and the cosy setting and if we are ever visiting the area again we will definitely be returning.

Lovely place staff polite and friendly. Food was fantastic.....................................................Had a large pepper steak dinner with rice and peas steamed vegetables and small oxtail dinner rice and peas steamed vegetables. Large Hake dinner with hard food, large snapper rice and steamed vegetables. 7 fried dumpling, mac and cheese. Will definitely recommend to family and friends......................................................

We stumbled across this place on a day out, quirky interior, staff friendly and scone was delicious, reasonably priced

I found the pub/ grounds spotlessly clean & tidy. A credit to all who maintain this pub/restaurant/garden. Staff very friendly. Great atmosphere. Well done to the team.

Went for a Sunday dinner here in November and it was mediocre, as was the service however it was a new offering and team. We decided to give it another go yesterday and it was great, the dry aged Sirloin was absolutely amazing, Would have given a 5 but still small room for improvement, serve the gravy separately and a cauliflower cheese? My starter was lovely and the service was excellent. Booked for next week as local businesses deserve support particularly when they are offering such good food.

Welcoming friendly pub with a lovely added extra of the locals dogs that visit 💕 We've been a few times for family meals thank you Jamie for delicious food, the staff are wonderful, so helpful and nothings to much, a great atmosphere. The locals are all very welcoming. Thanks so much and looking forward to the next visit.

Honestly, one of the best brunches! I have shakshuka and haven’t stopped thinking about it since. My family had pancakes, bacon sandwiches, tea, juice and iced coffees and also enjoyed all of them.

We visited the grove for Mother’s Day, 6 adults, 1 child. 3 x roast chicken, 2 x 8oz fillet steak, 1 children’s chicken nuggets +chips. My meal (steak) came out and looked great, although my stone wasn’t hot enough to cook my steak, onions and mushrooms, my steak although looked great, tasted horrible. £23 to only be satisfied with the chips! My wife also couldn’t eat the chicken and neither could my father Inlaw, only eating less that half there meals. I wouldn’t go back if I’d not Eaton for a month and was offered a free meal!
