Old Castle Pub in Shropshire

Any place this busy on a Thursday night is clearly getting things right. Lively, buzzing with customers of all ages. They found us a table in minutes and took our order. The food is English classics done well. We ordered the fish pie and a 10oz rump. Both were very well cooked and tasty. With a beer and a Chardonnay and soda, the bill came to a touch under 45 quid. Very good price for this standard of food. Great staff, good beer, great food, lovely service. Recommended.

Visited this pub for light bites and drinks. They were out of the gin I hoped to try, and one of the light bites was over-done. Also took a long time to get service before and during meal… had to go up and ask despite being table service and I was on my own worried I’d lose my table

Upon entering, a seemingly full pub on a Saturday lunchtime, we were warmly greeted and asked if we had a reservation. We had not , we’ were offered a small table very close to the open doorway into the extensive rear table area. Which was full. Very promptly asked if we were eating and what drinks we wished to order. A seemingly endless procession of smiling, courteous staff then served us following our move the a more spacious table that was made available. The beer was perfect , so was our snack lunch of beef baguette. Our bill was presented by a polite young man , who thanked us and hoped to see us again . It was a pleasure to be served by a number of staff all who appeared to be enjoying their job in a very busy and rightly so successful business. We will return, for a main meal soon.

Food was stunning. I had the scampi and chips. staff lovely and friendly. Relaxing garden out the back. Beautiful flowers out the front.

We were on a recce in Bridgnorth, so I sought a good pub for lunch on line. When we saw the tubs and baskets outside I knew we were on a winner. A warm welcome awaited and we went through to the open area at the rear. The flowers are magnificent. Lunch od really home made steak and ale pie and fish pie - a bit too much thickening in the sauce in the latter. Excellent beer and wine. The HPA pale from Wye Valley Brewery was new to me. I shall seek it out again! The staff are friendly and helpful. Well done all round.

This pub looks nothing from the outside but well worth a visit. Food was plentiful- good choice on the menu. Service excellent- very attentive. Prices very reasonable. I had the rump - Husband had the T Bone and it was cooked to perfection for him. The peppercorn sauce was delicious. We shared a mushroom starter and fully intended to share a pudding if only I had room! The only downside - ladies wear your ballet pumps not high heels. The unexpected grate in the floor of the restaurant not only trashed my very expensive Sargasso & Grey shoes but I also looked a total numpty as I lurched across the restaurant like an aging Cinderella leaving my blue suede slipper behind me. My Prince Charming nearly gave himself a hernia trying to retrieve said shoe and luckily for him pulled the heel off the shoe rather than doing himself an injury. (I might have preferred the hernia!) would I visit again - definitely- but next time in ballet pumps or slippers.

Double standard for locals and visitors, told I could not use front lounge with dogs, could use outside or verranda. Shortly after a local with his dog used the room I was ordered out of. ?? Won't be going again. Plenty of other welcoming pubs close by.

Well run local pub. We popped in for lunch and enjoyed two very different meals. Faggots and Mash and Ham Egg and Chips. You know how good a place is by how they respond to little issues. Who doesn't like a runny egg with their bread and butter? Standard tea tine for a child of the 70's. Problem fixed quickly and one delighted customer. Good portions and reasonable prices. They know their BREAD AND BUTTER!!!

Went to The Old Castle yesterday lunchtime to book a tea time reservation. Had a great welcome from Bryn and his front of house team, Sophie and Millie. Friendly, smiling, chatty but totally focused on their jobs. We watched a well-oiled service in full flow. Rude not to have a couple of pints of Butty Bach and Savignons, both superb. Returned teatime and had a great meal with prompt attentive service with a smile. Everyone appearing to enjoy their part in the team. Food exceptional. We will definitely return soon. Popped in for Lunch as we were sightseeing in Bridgenorth. Very friendly staff, good choice of beers and reasonable priced menu. We both opted for the fish pie which was very nice. This came with chips and salad. However the chips were a bridge too far as the fish pie is a fairly large portion. Would definitely come here again. The rear terrace is a hidden gem. Dog friendly.

Had lunch here on Weds 13th March with my wife. We both opted for the 10oz rump steak which was very reasonably priced. The food was excellent with the steaks cooked as requested (medium rare & medium to well done). Service was prompt and courteous, food was excellent - quick to arrive & generous potions. It was 'no trouble' to wrap the leftovers for us to take home to our spoilt dog. My pint of Town Crier was also spot on! Will be returning.

Thank you for the best mixed grill I have had for over a year.(a real mixed grill not a chicken in sight)cooked to perfection.my wife's liver smoked bacon and onion gravy was excellent also. The dessert was sticky caramel pudding,mouthwatering.....well done to the chefess you are an amazing cook.

We were visiting the area and were longer than planned so we called up to see if they had room for a table for 2, which they did. We were sat by the fire which was lovely. The roast was delicious and the service friendly and really good. The pudding we shared, the dinner was so filling we couldn’t manage one each.

Popped in at lunchtime on a SVR trip looking really for a beer. Quickly ushered to a table so did the dining. All three of us impressed by the quality of the meal. Great value as well. A well managed and friendly pub.

It may not be much from the outside but the welcome on a frosty Saturday lunch time was friendly and the waiting staff attentive and efficient. We had hot sandwiches, jacket potatoes, and hot drinks, all were of generous portions and good value for money. We will return again and sample their main menu items which looked equally good as they were being brought out to neighbouring tables. The Old Castle is the must go to place when my wife and I visit Bridgnorth. It is without a doubt the best pub there, my wife and I went there on a Thursday afternoon for her birthday. we sat outside in the very picturesque garden as it was a beautiful day. the inside is very oldie worldly and very welcoming and comfortable. the food is obviously cooked fresh and good value for money. I had the deluxe steakburger and cheese, and you could tell they were homemade, a thumbs up from me, my wife had the mexican chicken with turmeric rice off the specials board which constantly changing and she wolfed it down like she hadn't eaten for weeks. Bryn, the owner does a great job in keeping a good house and his staff are just brilliant, i would recommend this place to anybody with no hesitation and can't wait to go back again.
