Was in our narrow boat moored up so popped in for quick bit to eat, very clean and service was polite and friendly, and the food was lovely, definitely worth a visit, and dog friendly with a run around area to the side, plenty of parking…

Wow! Best pub food and service we’ve had for awhile! We will be back! Try the beef with horseradish in a Yorkshire pudding wrap. Bread and butter croissant pudding to die for. Wonderful, friendly staff. Perfect.

Stopped on route to our mini break in Bangor and enjoyed the BEST chips. Homemade, proper potato and excellent burger too. Fish and chips also yummy. Park for children and clean toilets! Great pub

Whilst visiting Whitchurch for a SPA weekend break a quick Google search for places to eat brought up the Horse and Jockey. Liking the look of the website, we booked a table on the Friday night for 8pm and although we turned up 30 minutes early, the team managed to get a table ready for the two of us. It was a very busy night, the atmosphere was great, a warm, cosy traditional pub. The service was excellent along with a good menu to choose from, in fact both my wife and I were struggling to pick what to go for. In the end, I had the Ribeye and my wife had the lamb shank. Food was excellent, a taste to die for, we even managed a cheeky pudding each. Highly recommended, only downside (and loss of a ⭐️ ) was the fact VAT was added to our bill which we were not expecting as we were unaware all prices shown on the menu and website, were excluding VAT.

Really nice meal. Had vegetarian burger which was tasty although didn't hold its structure well, and the Turkey dinner which was lovely although I could've done with more stuffing & pigs in blankets but overall good. Lovely vibe to the pub with nice lighting and delicious ale.

I would normally rate this place higher but today was a mixed experience with a disappointing main course followed by a very good dessert. The Sunday roast beef was let down by the main event, the beef which was so chewy I had to ask for a steak knife to cut through it and there was nearly as much fat as there was beef. The roast potatoes weren’t crispy and the Yorkshire pudding very dry. The veg were just ok. The service however was very good and a credit to the young people serving you and the crème brûlée was one of the best I have had. My friends had the Sunday turkey roast and their verdict was that it was just ok. I have certainly had better meals there than today’s.

Lovely pub with excellent food. We arrived in a group of 7 adults and 3 children after my husband had just completed a sky dive for the Alzheimer's society. Even though we hadn't booked, we were seated very quickly, and the service was excellent along with the food 😀 I would definitely visit again! I would recommend you try the home made onion rings, they are amazing! Bit beware, don't order a portion each as we did, they're enormous! 🤣🤣

A very pleasant pub - called in from a narrowboat for an evening meal on Sunday. Roast beef was beautifully pink, and all the vegetables were piping hot. Excellent portion size too. Desserts were huge and very tasty.

Fantastic meal and service. Stopped off for late dinner after going through Gringley Brook Lock on our canal holiday. Definitely one to put on your list if you are in the area. Bridge 28 if you are mooring up on the Shropshire Union.

Great experience, excellent food and dog friendly.

A friend recommended a walk along the canal (over the road from pub) then lunch in the horse and jockey. And I will happily recommend this as a good day out.

This place is amazing! It's child and dog friendly. Varied vegetarian menu. Our server's were approachable and happy. The food was amazing!

I organised a surprise meal for my wife's 40th here, we were made to feel so welcome, and our brief visit (travelling through to North Wales from Bristol) was fantastic. The staff were great the food was top notch and we had a lovely time. The atmosphere and garden, although near a road was lovely. Thanks to all the staff 😁

Lovely stop for food after a walk to Whitchurch and back along the canal and sandstone trail. The food was absolutely phenomenal, great menu with a good variety and great prices. The steak was the nicest I've had in years. Great vegetarian options. And to top it off they are dog friendly, we will definitely come back.

Went in for pre-booked table for works meal. Food and atmosphere excellent. Good choice on menu. Recommend table reservation if you wish to eat in as this place does get busy.

The summer menu here is extensive for vegans, which is surprising considering the location. The bar is beautiful and cozy, and the staff is very attentive and kind. I had the vegan curry, which was very spicy and tasty, but lacking a tiny bit of curry flavor. For dessert I had a brownie with vegan vanilla ice cream. The brownie was a little dry, but had a great flavor, and the ice cream was amazing. Highly recommended!!

We visited here on two consecutive evenings. Both evenings as good as each other. The food was fabulous, tasty, well presented. Very good value for money and a well put together menu, good variety. The staff are very friendly and attentive,at the same time very professional. Cannot say enough good things about this place. Well worth a visit as you won't be disappointed.

As a solo female traveller with a dog, it’s not always easy to find somewhere where we both feel comfortable. However, my visit here on 12 July ticked all my boxes. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the menu was varied and very reasonably priced and the food was lovely. I had the Beer Battered Fish & Chips with Pea Puree which arrived beautifully cooked. Gave them a call to see if food was available while we were stuck in a que at the Petrol Station and gave a yes to food and a yes to dogs. Had sine great food with great waiter, and then we continued on our journey. We will definitely be calling back here!

Lovely place, staff were really friendly and chatty. My burger wasn't the best, but my partner's pie was absolutely delicious, he really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was good and we returned a couple of times to have a drink, while we were on holiday. And a lovely selection of ales too.

The best meal of our one week canal boat trip out of Trevor, Wales. The chef was the perfect ghost and the food was elegantly served and delicious! Worth the short walk for the stair-step locks.

Stopped here for lunch after grabbing cheap fuel at Roberts garage across the road. Looks welcoming and didn't disappoint. Great look and feel, friendly staff and the food was delicious 😋. We had 2 course, sides and a drink for under £50. Only dropped a star on atmosphere due to busy road and theres not a lot you can do about that. Plenty parking and dog friendly too. We'll be back!

Booked for a group of 10 for a birthday/ family reunion. The service was outstanding - the staff could have done nothing more to make it a wonderful afternoon. When brining the cake out, they even sang happy birthday and asked for the name of the person whose birthday it was so they could do it properly! Food quality was excellent (everyone had clean plates)! I visit my parents every couple of months as they live near Whitchurch and will definitely be going again, even if it’s just for a drink. Thank you to all the staff, we all had a great afternoon.

We have driven past The Horse and Jockey a few times and always thought it looks very inviting. As we were staying close by we thought we would give it a try. We went on a midweek evening, fairly late. The young man who took us to our table was very friendly and got us some drinks straight away. We were going to have some tapas as we'd been looking at the menu online, however, we went against our original plan when we read the full menu though. My wife had the duck breast with pickled rhubarb that looked and tasted like something out of a fine dining restaurant, outstanding. I went for a BBQ chicken breast which was incredibly tasty and superbly cooked. The service was excellent and the atmosphere very warm and friendly. We'll definitely be going back and wholeheartedly recommended.

Due to my allergies they adjusted part of the meal switched a sauce out for another. And put a part of another course on a side plate because they were not sure if I could eat it. Thank you.

Clean, friendly atmosphere. The food was good, extremely tasty; we had Sunday lunch. The plate was bountiful but well proportioned. Highly recommend, also book in advance for Sunday's.

Went for the Sunday roast, it was tasty but I would say it would be small for a kids meal. I found my 2mm thin pork hiding behind the peas. Very poor value for money.

We stopped in for an early dinner on our way home, after being on business further south for the afternoon. This place was easy to park up in, easy access (despite my husband's cast for a recent ankle break!) and warm and welcoming on arrival, with a friendly four-legged face greeting us at the door! It's a nice blend of a local type pub and a modern but characterful eatery. The staff were all very professional and helpful, and we were able to get a table for two straight away (at just gone 5pm on a Thursday evening) but there were quite a few reserved tables for later in the evening. The menu was nice, with some twists on the classic 'homemade gastropub-type food'. We went for a ribeye, and the fish and chips. Both came out quickly and were piping hot, presented nicely and well seasoned. The homemade 'proper' chips are just that...........and were delicious, along with everything else. The fish batter was crispy, and the side of crushed peas that came with it were tasty (and had an extra ingredient that I couldn't put my finger on, but provided a nice difference to the usual mushy peas). My husband was pleased with the steak that was super tender, cooked a perfect medium rare and had cherry tomatoes instead of the usual chunk of cold half tomato you normally get. We're looking forward to another visit to try something else and warm our cockles by the coal fire!

Didn't get to sample the pub because despite walking miles to get there and there google page saying that they were open they were not, and when I phoned the lady on the phone stated I was looking at the wrong website, now I like many others use the Google search engine and when you do you get a site stating open as did trip advisor, so before you make the journey please check if they are open, and just for the record while we were outside another person said they had traveled to get there and another car pulled in saw the closed sign and drove off, we update your web presence, remember google and trip advisor had you down as open

Good selection of local(ish) beers as well the usual ten or so keg beer and cider offerings. I had a pleasant pint from the local (Stoke) Titanic brewery. A large venue made up of a number of semi detached rooms. Quite noisy although not very busy during my visit, Saturday 5pm, few soft surfaces to soften the echoes. Popular with parents of small children (who are allowed to wander about at will and shout and scream) hence three * for atmosphere. I didn't eat this time, but have before and it was fine.
