This review is not for the food or drinks because we were unable to try them! There were plenty of empty seats and tables when we called in for a drink. We sat at a table and the waitress came to take our order. We gave our drinks order and she asked what food we wanted. When we replied we weren't eating she gave a very loud sigh and snapped that it would have to be cash. We felt very uncomfortable and left. We will not be returning even when we do want to eat.

We stayed in Bishop’s Castle with friends for a wedding and four of us found this much-needed cafe open on Sunday morning. The woman serving us was friendly, efficient and managing a busy service professionally. The standard of breakfast was very high - great choice (even fish and chips was accommodated at 11am!) and the full English I had was hot, fresh, and delicious. A proper slice of ‘Old England’ and would highly recommend.

Brilliant location at the heart of Bishop's Castle, just on the edge of the Market Place. Short walk to fish & chip takeaway, Indian restaurant, Chinese takeaway, and pubs. B&B itself is very old, with lots of original and characterful features. Although breakfast advertised from 8.30am, they accommodated my earlier departure time and served me breakfast at 8am, which was much appreciated. I had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with toast, but full English and kippers also available. Room had everything I needed and was en suite. Couldn't fault it. Plenty of free on street parking nearby, and free car parks within walking distance.

Outstanding and excellent value. Our room was spotlessly clean, with nice touches such as proper milk in the fridge (no UHT nonsense), bottles of sparking and still water on arrival (even though the water from the tap is fine to drink) and cotton buds and cotton wool balls in the bathroom. Perhaps the best breakfast I’ve had in any UK hotel, at any price. Options of kippers and smoked salmon, but the full English was a real treat, all cooked to order, so no lukewarm – or frazzled – or dry – stuff from a buffet. Our room faced towards the bell tower referred to elsewhere, but it was pretty quiet and didn’t disturb our sleep. Super friendly staff too. Nothing to criticise here.

We visited Bishops Castle for a wedding 15th-17th July and chose to stay at The Poppy House. We needed an early check in which was prior agreed without issue, we arrived earlier than arrived and the room was already for us, taking the stress out of getting ready and to the wedding venue on time. The room was clean with a large comfy bed and we felt that nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was delicious both mornings. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We had two meals here over the course of our week long stay in Bishop's Castle. The food was yummy and the staff were helpful. Dogs are allowed in the front section of the Cafe which meant we could happily bring our dog along with us. I had the lasagne and a Small Breakfast, both were yummy and there were no complaints anywhere else on the table either. They were also perfectly fine with my son who wanted a combination of breakfast items not reflected on the menu! We would certainly go back if we were in the area again.

Went to visit this lunchtime, my first time ever at this café. Had wheeled my bike around the back, got shouted at by the gent working there which I didn't mind too much, but then the attitude that followed upon asking if it was OK to sit outside was uncalled for, so I left. I've worked in customer service for many years. Mate if that's how you treat your customers then I certainly won't attempt to come back again.

Just returned from 3 day stay at Poppy House B & B , Friday to Sunday. Loads of character old fashioned house at top of town in Bishops Castle. My particular room was one that Rock start Robert Plant once stayed in! Great breakfasts really tasty sausages and bacon, cooked by Clive, Lynn and Julie - House owned and run by an extended family originally from black country The Poppy House also do meals in day as well as scrumptious cakes tea coffee etc. Shops in Bishops castle are very artsy crafty with a few antique shops. Real ale available at several pubs including Three Tuns and Six Bells and the Castle Hotel nearby. Bishops town is very quirky and interesting with friendly locals. Church has some interesting graves including black slave and maorie. Recommend visit.

This place is brilliant if you are Gluten intolerant. There are so many options for you, from the bread to the cakes. The GF Sticky Toffee Pudding was out of this world and the waitresses understanding of the allergy and the food they served made it easy to order, especially for my sister who is also lactose intolerant. The Spanish Tortilla was tasty and believe the menu when it says its a large portion. This place is definitely worth the money, and it is by no means expensive. We visited twice on a 4day holiday and would return again if we was in the area.

Situated at the top of the high street adjacent the town hall, the Poppy House is a down to earth, rustic and comfy independent local cafe restaurant. My partner and I like to pop out for breakfast when we have a free day off together, and we discovered Poppy’s by accident on one of our visits to Bishops Castle. We have visited many times in the past and the breakfasts are always superb! However on our last visit to Poppy’s, we asked as usual for a decaf latte with little froth on top. On asking for this ,a lady with dark hair asked “whether he wanted his bum wiping as well” as this we were dumbfounded and I initially laughed as I could not believe this had been said to us! We did not initially say anything as were were unsure how to deal with this verbally. I realise this was probably said in jest and no other customers were present in the restaurant, but regardless, we found this comment rude in the extreme! She also said “here’s your hot milk” when she brought the latte out..again a rude passive aggressive comment! I have never left a review before, but feel that this is unacceptable! We had visited the restaurant numerous times before, always enjoying the lovely breakfast and had never had any cause to complain before. Such a shame, as we won’t be visiting in the future.

We had rented a house in Bishops Castle for the week and visited The Poppy House for brunch on one day and breakfast on another. Both were very enjoyable and really good value for money. We were made very welcome and our dog was allowed to sit in with us on the ground floor even being given a bowl of water to slurp.
