We had our works Christmas do here for 30+ people and we stayed the night. Front of house staff were lovely and welcoming, but that is all I can really say nice about our stay. Our room was like something out of the 70/80s very twee and old-fashioned. Quilt cover had a rip in it. Bath looked old, faint smell of cigarette smoke. No soap, shower gel etc in the bathroom - to help save the planet apparently - you could request some at reception. We were woken about 6am by what I assume was some kind of water cistern behind one of the bedroom walls that sounded like a plane going over head. The party. Arrival time was stated as 7pm and most (about 180) turned up about then. We were all crowded into the bar which wasn't big enough and soon warmed up to a very uncomfortable temperature. They eventually let us in at 8pm. Drinks were astronomically expensive - £7.50 for a pint £8.20 for a Baileys or a large glass of wine (£25+ by the bottle) and £7.20 for a pint of coke!!!. The main course wasn't served until after 9pm and my beef was dry and tasteless, though others who had the turkey said it wasn't bad. And my Xmas pudding was dry too. All in all not somewhere I would ever go again and certainly don't know where it gets it 4 star rating from. I did voice most of my complaints to reception before leaving.

Attended a wedding at this venue and the room was nice, but that was about. The food was okay, but the eye watering drinks prices really left a bad taste . A small 150ml bottle of coke for children £3.80!! G&T £12!! I could go on. Advice would be to take your own drinks and not play up to greedy owners cheating a captive audience out of their hard earned money. And the wedding excuse doesn't wash. Do you pay your staff more for a wedding..no. Do your suppliers charge you more when they know it's a wedding...no. Does your heating and gas suddenly cost more for a wedding....no! Literally robbing people and we for one won't be returning to stay or eat there.

We (large group of friends), visited Albright Hussey for NYE. It was absolutely fantastic! 3 of us Gluten-free and for the first time ever, we felt as special as everyone else 🥰. The food was incredible, the service second to none, they honestly couldn't have done anymore. We had a fabulous night and cannot thank the staff enough for all their hard work including the DJ who did a great job! The rooms get a 4 stars because they are not the main attraction of this hotel and there's room for improvement however, I would return and stay here over and over.

Came here for a 70th birthday party. Parking good, reception people happy, helpful and friendly! Great welcome - over 100 of us. Bar people diligent, hard working and attentive all throughout the event. Atmosphere brilliant - decor cosy but not dated and kept well. Food served by speedy people and well cooked and presented. The plates were HOT!!! Well done chef ***** gold stars. The whole place was CLEAN and toilets spotless!! As hard as I looked I could find nothing to say even a query to and I know hotels. Thank you all so much for a really smashing visit. The lass on reception when we left took our thanks and beamed with pride. A credit to your hotel as all your people were. Even the black swans were proud to be living here!! Brilliant keep up the great work.

The hotel is well priced and looks amazing from the outside the bar area is good and fairly modern compared to the rest of the hotel, the breakfast room and the corridors are period fitting, the bedrooms are comfy although it feels a little dated, I stayed mid week for work and would stay again if I was in the area but I would say the restaurant needs a bit of updating or some better lighting from the dark panelling. It’s a lovely setting and there are good transport / taxi links into the local town for activities or other restaurants if your staying for a few nights

A beautiful venue, with friendly and efficient service. However, we were given a 'bijou' room, which was so cramped we could not open the wardrobe doors and drawers properly, as there was very little space between the front of the wardrobe and the side of the bedside table - had to squeeze items in and just kept some in the suitcase. TV was tiny - one attempt to turn it on failed, but it wasn't an issue for us. Window looked out on a farm, with horses, which was quiet and peaceful. Bathroom was lovely, with plenty of hot water; but my pillows were the lumpiest I've ever seen! So uncomfortable I could not sleep properly, and with or without pillows had a neck and headache. I think we were unlucky on this occasion, as the rest of the hotel was amazing and beautiful. I would suggest visitors check the room before booking if they can.

We had our wedding at the Hussey and Paul and the team were amazing throughout. We met with Paul and the team on many occasions prior to the day and they helped us to plan and make the day very special. Our guests also loved the venue and we couldn’t recommend the venue enough. The team made sure the day was exactly as we needed, the food was great and everyone couldn’t speak highly enough about the Hussey.

We booked here as a quick bank holiday getaway, and while the hotel was beautiful and the grounds are great (even in the British rain!) there were a few little details that stopped this being a 5-star review. The location isn't too far from Shrewsbury town centre, however, it is more ideal if you drive as not everyone can afford or be able to get a taxi here, and public transport looks nonexistent. On arrival, we were shown to our room and asked if we'd like a cooked breakfast in the morning. We said yes, and looked forward to the morning. The room itself was beautiful, but the bed was far too creaky even to sit on, and not ideal for 'romantic' activities. The spa bath was lovely, however, it is an accessiblility nightmare even for able bodied people. The bath is far too deep with no step up into the bath, or to reach the taps, which could lead to a serious fall. Throughout the night, also, the noise travels quite easily from the downstairs areas into the rooms. Also, we were informed by signage to close the bathroom door whilst running the bath and to switch the extractor fan to clear the steam - but there was no extractor fan? The next morning we went downstairs to have our cooked breakfast, and while the service was polite, it was also lacking in terms of coffee refreshment and choice of breakfasts. After this, we went to reception to book out and were presented with the bill of £15 per person for the cooked breakfast - which wasn't mentioned the night before. The issue of the money isn't the problem, but the cost should have been mentioned before taking our names for breakfast. Also, when booking out, we asked for numbers for a local taxi service and the receptionist looked taken aback, and gave us a piece of paper with numbers to call, with no offer to call for us or an offer of help. The setting was lovely, and the age of the building shone through, however, I would struggle to recommend it at the cost displayed on the website, and struggle to see where the quality of the 4-star rating is.

The 2 rooms in the 'new' wing were pleasant and comfy, but the ones in the historic old building were fantastic (unless you dislike characterful and quirky!). Food wasn't being served when we arrived early afternoon, but the chef made up a great plate of fresh sandwiches and chips. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. I attended a fashion show and lunch event with friends this week. The venue and food were good. However, as I was driving I decided to order a bottle of Nosecco, de alcoholised wine to share with my fellow drivers on my table, to compliment the non drivers bottles of the ‘real thing‘! I was astounded to discover I was charged £22.50 for this bottle, the same price as a bottle of the hotel’s house wine! To put this in perspective, a bottle of Nosecco in the supermarkets currently retails at between £3 and £4.00 a bottle! On querying this huge mark up with the barman, assuming he had mistakenly over charged me, I was assured this was the correct price! I do understand there does have to be a corkage fee but £18.50? How can you possibly justify this Albright Hussey? Shame on you !

My new wife and I had our wedding here October 26th. Paul, Emma and the rest of the team (sorry, didn't catch names!) were all fantastic. We approached them earlier in the year after we were severely let down by Madeley Court Hotel. Paul and Emma made us feel so welcome and we wished we found them straight away when looking for a venue! The day itself was so well organised that we didn't need to worry or stress. They set up an indoor and outdoor area for the ceremony to see what the weather was doing and we thankfully had it outside. It was such a special occasion. The wedding breakfast was brilliant. Everyone enjoyed the food. Then, in the evening, the house DJ (again, didn't catch a name) was brilliant too. He knew how to keep the dance floor full. Then, for night time, we stayed in a lovely historic bedroom. We were knackered, but enjoyed the jacuzzi bath! Thank you Albright Hussey team!

Picturesque on the outside. Tired and corners cut on the inside. Room was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. A skeleton service is offered mid-week, so perhaps it is better on a weekend? The continental breakfast, costing £9.95, was picked up from the lobby. Consisting of a Quaker Oat so Simple pot with the 99p logo attached. Hot water was provided. Plastic-wrapped pastry, yogurt from a fridge and assorted biscuits. Not what you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. Dinner wasn't much better, but at least they offered it. Beer was good, saving the evening. I would not return.

Stayed in room 23 for a family wedding weekend. The room was very disappointing. Tired and very old fashioned decor (circa 1990s) Uncomfortable mattress on which you could feel springs. Poor quality bedding and towels. Bathroom also very dated and a bit grubby in terms of bits of mould, hairs etc. Also bathroom layout appalling....we literally had to walk sideways to get in the door and there was hardly any room to move once inside. Car park right next to the window so lots of noise. Also as other reviews have said you could hear people going for a pee upstairs because soundproofing non-existent. Cooked breakfast very average (hard egg, one sausage, one piece of bacon) and disappointed to see cheap, long life plastic wrapped croissants. How hard would it be to pop some fresh ones in the oven for 5 minutes? Rather than write a poor review after leaving I did raise my concerns with manager during our stay. He offered no apology and seemed almost resigned to my feedback. He just said "We've had a really busy season and no time to put rooms out of commission to do any work on them." Not really an explanation for not redecorating/refurbishing rooms for over 25 years. I just want to say it's a false economy as lack of attention to customer comfort and experience means you won't get repeat business! I'm guessing the owner literally banks on people like us who stayed for a wedding and had no choice but to pay for an overpriced room.

First the good... Great night away with a fantastic taster menu dinner in the evening and superb breakfast, both beautifully cooked, accompanied by open fires in a 15th century manor...just what was needed on a stormy and very wet weekend. Now the things to improve... whilst clean and tidy, decor was a little let's say dated, the bedroom tv, tiny for old eyes and the bed groaned upon any and every movement. Please dont think this detracted from a brilliant stop over, loads and loads of hot water, wonderful eating, great staff and a lovely location....thank you

From the time we arrived to the time we left this evening was Fantastic. We had visited before on several occasions and have never been disappointed. MALCOLM ( Maitre de) was his usual friendly and welcoming self. Prosecco and Canapés to start where plentiful and delicious. The main 5 course meal was EXCEPTIONAL. The Young Chef (21 yrs) and his small team turned out a Spectacular feast. They are a very talented team. The Front of house staff where very attentive and professional. The drinks and Wine list is extensive and NOT overpriced. The DJ with his Disco was Great and played some classic tunes. The Fireworks at midnight were BRILLIANT. The Family that run this historic building are very friendly and were there on the night to celebrate are good people, who treat their Staff with Respect and Dignity. A couple of Waitresses even sat with the family on their table and had a drink and even a dance on the dance floor. It's obvious to me that this family care for and really appreciate the Staff. The staff in turn are a credit to them. These are the types of local businesses that we all should be supporting at this difficult time. We will certainly be re visiting for Valentines etc. To those of you that cancelled. You lot really missed a treat. Myself and my wife know alot about hospitality as I was a Chef and my Wife worked front of house for 15 yrs dealing with the Royal family and VVIP's. All of this for only £109 per head. EXCELLENT VALUE.

Lovely wedding venue. We were part of the wedding party and we enjoyed our day however there were a few things we were disappointed with. Firstly the venue isn't exclusive which was okay until somebody was wondering around in tracksuits as we were taking pictures. Also, they only had one member of staff on the bar all night so trying to get a drink took ages. The receptionist was quite rude and abrupt especially when helping the wedding party know were to go as we hadn't been there before. We slept over in the honeymoon suite the night before and had breakfast in there too. We were told and we asked again if our dirty plates could be taken out for the bride and groom the following night and this was not carried out which was very disappointing. All in all, a great venue with lovely rooms which made for a great wedding but if the above were handled correctly it would have been outstanding.

Attended a wedding here. Well planned but needs some more seating outside whilst people are waiting around for photos. If we had had a seat we might have had a drink in the sunshine

Great venue to have with their pizza oven. Price was good too, thought it would have been more for stone bake pizza Was about £10 for a normal one

Stayed here when attending a wedding nearby. Lovely setting. Good breakfast. Looks like a popular wedding venue at weekends so avoid if you want a bit of solitude. I found it cheaper to book through booking site than through their website. I enjoyed it.

We had our wedding here and it was such an amazing day . Paul and all the staff work so hard to make your time there so special . The manor is beautiful all the way through . Amazing place we loved it.

Spent the day here for my sons wedding absolutely amazing. Everything was perfect, staff friendly and helpful. They didn't have a top table but a lovely table just for them.

We have been to this restaurant many times and it’s always been a treat which is why I suggested it for Father’s Day Sunday lunch. Again we have had several Father’s Day lunches there and they have been a nice treat. The moat restaurant and surrounding gardens have got lots of character and charm. When we walked through the restaurant entrance door we were met by a man who I can only describe as a casually resident or the hotel handy man ? It turned out to be the restaurant manager who took us to our table. All staff were pleasant but half them were dressed in casual clothes something you would expect when having a pub meal not a 4 star hotel ? We knew we had to carve our roast ourselves and they left us a leaflet on how to do it ! Starters were not an option and desert was trifle. We did have coffees but by the time the milk came the coffee was cold. If this is the demise of COVID it’s a great shame. What happened to being greeted professionally, having a pre lunch drink in the bar whilst looking through the menu then being escorted to your table and then your order taken and later served to you ? Or am I getting old. We have had several meals out since relaxation of COVID restrictions and serving staff have worn masks and served us individually. Cost of our lunch was very reasonable and I’m sure we would have paid twice the price to go back to the old way of service. If this is the way forward for this 4 star hotel restaurant it’s a shame

The service was friendly and the food absolutely first-rate. Can recommend the Ploughman’s which is loaded with cheese, really top notch ham, and lovely crusty bread. Would have loved to stay for cake but we were all too full.

Have been coming here for over a year and their Panang curry is the best! Portion sizes are generous for price - we always have enough leftover for a good size meal the day following. Staff is friendly too

We booked for dinner as we knew the White Lion had reopened for food with a new chef. We were not disappointed the food was delicious, we had the rib eye steak, the sea bass special and the penne vodka. All were beautifully cooked and served. The service was great and the staff were friendly. We will definitely be eating here again.
