Called in with friends and it was OK. But nothing special. I commented.on one waitress doing all work. Apart from the waitress being so lovely I would have given it a 1. I said a older blonde lady was not doing a lot. And got the reply that is was proberly a customer Sat by the bar. Ummm odd that. Anyway I returned to ask who the manager was it was the older blonde lady called Georgina. So what ever but why argue with customers. I simply commented on the poor waitress being rushed off her feet.

A superb burger and fries, really friendly staff and great restaurant. 100 times better than the Beefy Boys and worth the extra journey.

Tucked away down Aubrey st, Burger shop is an unassuming looking place from the exterior, yet as we take a right through the main door, we enter a beautiful, minimally decorated, light, open and inviting space. The exposed brick and neutral colours tying in with the wooden tables to create a simple rustic charm. We are seated and looked after by a delightful and extremely helpful server who couldn’t be more attentive and pleasant. As it’s our first visit, we both order the flagship Hereford beef burger, excited to try for ourselves why this place has its reputation. As it’s a Tuesday, we are two of four customers in the restaurant and so our food arrives quickly and is wonderfully presented…and sadly this is where the wheels come off. Taste wise, aside from being a little dry the burgers are perfectly fine but the size of the portions is the biggest (or is that smallest) shock. This is truly artisan fare and feels a little like the restaurant is almost looking down on other places who serve a plate with enough food to justify the price. Expecting to be filled with meat we ordered only one portion of fries to share and within 5 mins had devoured every last morsel as if we had visited McDonalds. When compared to another famous burger restaurant right in the same city the evidence points to a place with too much belief in its own hype. A shame.

We were on holiday near Hereford and managed to get a booking for the Burger Shop. The food was excellent and they were brilliant with my allergies. It was great value and the atmosphere in the outdoor garden was lively. Would definitely recommend!

We were able to book a table at short notice early evening on a Saturday, on arrival we were offered a choice of inside or outside, we opted to eat in the “yard” which was lively and loud with a couple of groups who were enjoying the bar which had a good choice of beers. There was a good atmosphere, if we had wanted something quieter the restaurant inside would also have been perfect. The yard offers the choice to order food from either the burger store or the attached pizza restaurant both via an app which was easy to use. I enjoy a decent burger, and also make my own smash burgers. I can simply say that the blue cheese burger that I had was as good as any burger that I have had here or in North America. Very attentive and engaged young staff as well. Keep it up.

Yesterday me, my partner and my baby came to the burger shop. I should have realised it was so empty so that’s never a good thing. The waitress was so rude and cold she just seemed so unfriendly and as if she couldn’t be bothered with us. The food was awful. The patties were so overcooked and dry, the burgers were just awful tasting. The fries were overcooked and hard. She never once came over and said is everything ok. She didn’t even say bye. Just a really awful experience

A Rule of Tum is amazing for burgers. The food was really good. The drinks were good too. The staff made this place extra special. Very friendly.

Called in for a veggie burger and it was OK but nothing special. Also quite small portions for the price. It was very busy and the lovely young waitress was rushed off her feet. She seemed to be doing everything that's the only reason they did not get a lower score. The much older woman who I presume was the manager was just sat there not even helping. If she was the manger she should have working her butt off ad it was so busy.

The food is great. The burgers are delicious. Nice environment and exceptional restaurant. Great team who are friendly and professional.

I found the fries to be overdone, the vegetarian burger okay but not very exciting and the hot sauce very mild (take your own with you). The servers seem to be overstretched nowadays, so we have found ourselves waiting for drinks, often not bothering and sticking with the water until leaving for the next place. Not that I eat meat anymore, but the patties I've seen have all been what I would consider overcooked, with no hint of pink. It's still a nice place to visit, but I'd suggest The Bookshop next door.

My husband took me to this lovely restaurant as it was Valentine’s Day, for a delicious burger lunch. We were welcomed warmly by Ollie and Jake and shown to our reserved table. The choice of food is very good here, something to suit everyone. Popular with children too along with their parents. They have a great selection of beverages also. My husband chose a glass of Henry Weston local cider and I had water. Our burgers when they promptly arrived, along with some fries were absolutely scrumptious. We did not feel rushed but the staff politely checked if everything was ok and had a brief chat with us. Would highly recommend if you haven’t visited before. The quality of local ingredients used, is top notch. Thank you for a great dining experience today.

Booked a table and notified I was allergic to gluten - had a phone call prior to our arrival to say the fryer was not working in case we wanted to go else where, they wouldn’t be able to provide any gluten free fries. We decided to go and it didn’t disappoint - everyone’s meal was fantastic and the service was excellent. Turns out they had the fryer fixed and I was able to have my gluten free fries after all! Well worth a visit and catered to allergies. Thank you all!

loved the food in the Burger shop. The beef is of the best quality with there being many options of burgers to choose from. They also have a few vegan options as well. They have some quite unique options of flavours to add to the fries, one of my favourite options is the 'Hot Fries' with wasabi mayo and pickled celery. Definitely worth trying

The yard is a beautiful location, the atmosphere was great. Really enjoyed being there, service was good too. Just the burgers well a little bit disappointed with, over cooked chicken thigh barley any meat on mainly batter. The chips were strangely greasy over done. It all looked amazing but the taste was quite there. The price was expensive for what it was. But definitely go again maybe have the beef next time.

Great food. Great service. Lovely relaxed atmosphere! We ordered a buffalo chicken burger, a buttermilk chicken burger, rosemary fries, sweet potato fries, coleslaw which was refreshing and delicious, made with mint. Cheese curds with a spicy salsa, which were amazing! We drank mocktails. Everything was fabulous! We have been to another popular burger shop in town but A rule of tum/ aka the burger shop is a step up from the others. We will most definitely be back.

Entering the stablishment was fine got told to sit anywhere.. after sitting for over 20 minutes in an empty restaurant, I personally had to approach the staff member to come and take my order… drinks came swiftly food not far afterwards.. the quality of food burger was just below average…. Ordered the bbq wings which are battered!. The battered wings where not fully cooked/ barely cooked then lathered (bbq sauce) and served waited awhile as we didn’t get any cutlery or napkins seeing as it was a burger… personally has to go and receive a hand fully of napkin’s from I’m assuming another member of staff…not once did anyone come and check until I acknowledged of other work suttlely that no body had one and ask how the meal went.. gave the server the food and she had left one culprit wings behind… the view to the kitchen was clear leaving the door open.. I seen sous chef and other chef brush off the stituation!. So I carried over the remaining wing still tact For them to examine… Borge the sous chef also supporting chef both of thier mouths dropped and walked away with their heads face sing down… I was greeted with either a manager/assistant or supervisor she didn’t announce who she was.. I got told the wings have been compt what more do you want…. I wish I expressed a perfectly cooked patty.. abhtger byn to fit the over cooked patty… oh yeah not to be served raw batter for the bqq wings!. Oh my god, food still as brilliant at it was when you first opened. It was worth the two hour drive from Aberystwyth to eat mackerel and gooseberries. Divine. We visited on a Thursday night without a reservation and were found a table in the spacious yard at the rear. Although the yard was enclosed, we found it rather cold. Ordering was via an App an we found it quite tricky (should have read the instructions fully) as we had to order the drinks from a different bar than we had entered.Having said all that, the burgers were fantastic. I had the Kimchi Chicken Burger which was very spicy - not sure if it was the Kimchi or Peri Peri Mayo - and the chicken was a good quality fillet. My wife had the Burger Shop Classic - a juicy patty covered in cheese and mustard mayo. They were initially served without cutlery which looked a challenge as they were both very juicy, but the team brought us knives and forks when we asked.We loved the Challah Buns they were served in - beautifully light and fresh.Well worth a visit, but book ahead on cold or wet nights.

I went with my family for dinner just the four of us and to say the service was awful would be an understatement. We were seated at a dirty table , it look forever to even get menus and don’t get me started on the waitress who took our order. Her whole attitude screamed I don’t want to be here. I know it’s hard being a waitress especially when it’s hot but at least act like you want to be at work. When our food finally arrived we had the most pathetic chips ever. The longest one was about the length of my pinky nail absolutely ridiculous for the price. We moved onto pudding after about an hour after we had finished since it took painfully long for our plates to be cleared. I ordered the cheesecake and what a pathetic excuse it was. It was 99% cheese 0.5% fruit and 0.5% biscuit it reminded me more of a yogurt compot not a bad thing but when I ordered cheese cake I would like cheesecake. The waitress who took our pudding order didn’t even know the two pudding on that evening. Won’t be visiting again between the AWFUL service and wobbly toilet the whole place seems an understaffed mess.

Oh dear! Such a neat idea and we were so looking forward to trying this place. Don't be fooled by the photos on the website though folks, because what you'll get is a miniaturized version of what you see. When the £15 curries were ordered (a curry with rice and naan) we expected a feast of great things but the plastic tray consisted of a few chicken pieces in a lot of sauce, one spoonful of rice in a reduced size takeaway tin and about a quarter of a naan (which was more like a focaccia) - it was like someone had ripped a part off a whole naan and left it on the side of the trays. For fifteen quid, at least serve an adult portion of rice and a whole naan. The two 'loaded naans' were okay but as they're like thick doughy breads (not naans as we know them Spock) the bases became soggy, stodgy and cold from the array of drizzled sauces that a chef had squirted dramatically all over them from his squeezy bottle before piling on a whole heap of cold salad stuff. We'll stick to the curry houses if we want a decent curry at a reasonable price in the future. Glad we gave it a go but really disappointed.

Can't find a separate place to leave a review for it, really enjoyed Indian style street food from the dark kitchen in the yard area behind the restaurant. Loaded naan and Dahl were great as was the bhaji chaat. Nice to have some different chutneys from the norm.

Excellent burger cooked perfectly, coupled with probably the best "Standard" fries I've had (Rosemary chips/fries) in a burger place. I've eaten in the Burger Shop before but this time me and a mate visited the Yard. I'm not sure if the idea was in the pipeline before Covid, but it is a 100% bang on idea for exactly now. There is plenty of space between tables and the bar and service areas always feel like they aren't rammed. Speed and quality of service was also excellent.I think for all that Hereford lacks, we do have some great outdoor spaces for drinks/food. This is the newest and best, in my opinion.

I ordered online with deliveroo 3 meal deals and the first time they brought me only the chips. Had to call deliveroo to bring the order properly. When I called I complained about the chips that weren’t eatable but even on my other order received even worst chips ( I would say God knows for how long the oil haven’t been changed). I tried my burger OMG all over salad and a very little piece of chicken (practically I had bread and salad).Really rubbish and so dissapointednwith my order.

Book a table for 2 people this was are first time eating here stood waiting for some to come and seat us which we were waiting a while before we were acknowledged that we were waiting.On ordering are food we were surprised on how quick the food came out the ButterMilk chicken was just only warm also was the Hop Burger.There was no check back down the whole time we were there 45min. No sauces offered with the meal the male service was very miserable looking. Will not be returning rather go to another business in the town.

So - I am one of these guys biggest fans and have been on their journey with them since Beer In Hand Days.! But tonight and last night I feel that there could be some room for improvement with their new venture in the yard.The yard is a great place to hang out and the undercover area and attention to detail is great.We ate at the dark kitchen last night which was good. Except they had run out of dessert. - Custard Doughnuts. - shame as we had children who were going to have them.Tonight we returned as it’s eat out and we had burgers - which were good. But they need to be hotter in temperature. Tonight there was no doughnuts again and no ice cream.Outside the only real desserts you can spot on the menus are doughnuts- which everyone goes for as they are the only sweet thing that advertised. Please look at your boards and add some sweet items to them that are available all of the time. - I know your food is fresh and it is a real taste sensation.The Yard needs a dessert menu. - that everyone can see in all the areas.Look forward to seeing it - well done guys a few tweaks needed x

Sadly just a one night visit to Hereford for the first time but chose this local restaurant, so glad I did! I had the Worcester Blue burger which was absolutely delicious, also has the black fox organic cider - very tasty. Will be back :)

Waiters arent conforming to social distancing and no PPE is being worn.Track or trace guidance is being followed - no one asked for any contact details.The table hadnt been wiped down.The staff were incredibly lovely but didn't get our order right. Burger was ok, cooked to medium rare as standard. Rosemary chips were amazing. Coleslaw was unusual.

We had the Hereford hop and the classic burger both lovely. These are however cooked medium so if like me you prefer your meat well done then you need to ask. We also tried the cheese curds and pork loaded fries which were beautiful.They have a lovely outdoor seating area in the yard where you can actually order food from the burger shop, the bookshop or the dark kitchen. All looked lovely.

Our first meal out since March. Lovely terrace at the back with plenty of space between tables. Fantastic food as always and great service even though it was really busy. Took advantage of the “eat out to help out” which meant quality food for bargain prices. And you can take your dog which is always a bonus!Great experience overall.

Took advantage of the Eat Out to Help Out incentive and visited with friends on the first day it was available. No member of staff wore masks, visors, aprons etc. Took a while to have our order taken and the drinks to arrive. These were handed out individually to us. They had already run out of sweet potato fries that day! Food was tasty. We asked for cutlery and this was placed in a bundle on the table. When we went to pay there was no screen at the till point and it took quite a time to sort out the bill. Although the food was ok I won’t be rushing back in the current climate.

I've visited Rule of Tum's Burger Shop Hereford on a semi-regular basis, living nearby. By and large the food has been very good, on the last occasion I had their worcester blue burger which consisted of creamy, tangy cheese blended with sweet caramelised onions on tender beef and slightly sweet bun. Rosemary chips were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inn, well balanced with both salt and rosemary.Sadly, what stops me going in more regularly is the service. During my last visit a young man heard I was seating alone, turned and placed a menu on the table without saying a word and turned away. He presented food and drink with a quiet and rather perfunctory 'here you are, bud' in fashion which suggested he coudn't care less and subsequently laughed, shaking his head when I left without giving a tip. This has been a worser example of the service I have had, where more often than not staff have presented as having better things to do than offer service.

In town for a few days - never been before. Asked about for a good local business for supper. This place was mentioned more than once so we went along. Super friendly and helpful team. Willing to indulge my “you tell me what’s best” approach we were not disappointed.Brilliant. All of it. Even the play list!

I was expecting great things from this independent trader, positively judged by Jay Rayner in The Guardian. My son’s birthday: all his friends raved about it and he wanted to eat here. He would come again but we were all underwhelmed. The decor is bright and quirky and the staff very friendly and very hard-working; indeed the (seemingly) solo waitress had to attend to many covers until help arrived. Initial service was quite slow as a result. Having eaten at a very well-known independent burger retailer locally, we hoped this would be less hyped and more subtly-good food. The menu description of the burgers sounded beautiful and the fries were actually lovely but the main event was a let down. The challah buns collapsed into nothing. Whilst the Mayo/sauces were tasty, the burger itself was dull. A little dry and bland. Unfortunately, everybody suffered from their food being so greasy that, in one case, the burger was judged inedible. The environment was an inviting place to eat but, based on the food alone, we shall not be a hurry to return. For this, I feel sad because they seem like genuinely nice people who work hard.

Simple menu, burgers & fries, and a few other side - what else do you want from a burger bar! The key to success for Rule of Thumb is doing the basics right (and the name - love it!). Also like the stripped down decor look, and the mural on the back wall. I have seen a few comments about being over priced but for me, I am happy to pay for a bit of good provenance in my food.

Whilst the burgers we had were tasty, the rosemary chips (not fries) were slightly soggy and tasteless and the drinks (over £2 for a normal can of coke) was disappointing. We had been a few years ago and thought it was excellent, but we’ll be using the other burger shop in town from now on instead. Can’t fault the service.

Really nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly, food was pretty good although a little expensive but would most likely come here again!

The food itself was mediocre, a table of 6 all agreed there wasn't much to complain about regarding this. However the portions sizes seemed to inconsistent. Our portions of fries seemed halve the size of the table coming out after. The sides arrived with the wrong accompanying burger which isn't the end of the world but just slightly annoying to have to pass around the table. For a burger, fries and a drink to come to £18 and not be blown away, I would suggest trying the other well known burger restaurant in Hereford.

Had lunch here on 10/01/20 first time since the refurbishment,great improvement on the seating arrangements, more space and lighter and brighter,the waitress took our drinks order promptly and gave us a few minutes do decide on our food options,when ordered the food also arrived promptly,I had the Hereford hop burger and my wife had the spicy lamb burger and very tasty they were,an excellent choice,looking forward to our next visit,great food and great drinks

Six of us went for food at 7:30 on a Monday evening. It wasn't overly busy and the atmosphere was pleasant. The recent refurbish has made it more spacious.The waitress came and took our drinks order relatively quickly. She was very nice and polite. They didn't have the first two craft ales i requested but that was no major issue.As for food I opted for the Christmas burger along with 3 others in the party. We also had a hot chicken burger and a farmer Toms burger. All the burgers were nice but none them were very hot. Seemed they had been sat on the side for a while which was disappointing.The Westcombe Cheese Curds were my favourite side, could have eaten load of those! We had several of the sides including the wings and they were all okay.To sum up the food is okay here, nothing special and overpriced. The special fries are massively overpriced. I will not be rushing back lets put it that way. There are plenty of eating places that are far better value in Hereford.

So trying a new town , look on trip advisor to get some ideas.. this was not my first choice to be honest , but the other place was fully booked.Reviews were pretty good so booked a table.The pros the burgers are good, across the 6 of us we had beef and chicken .. but The atmosphere was cold , the place does not warrant the pricing in my opinion, it's more like a fast food place .. no plates , had to ask for napkins and ketchup Could not get a hot cup of tea..yet they own next door that does tea-coffee!!Bench style seating , and like I said really the saving grace was the food but wont be back

Visited on a busy Friday evening, were seated quickly, was a bit cramped but understandable as renovations are taking place. Food was nice, nuggets were disappointing, looked like pork scratching and weren’t anything to rave about. We were most disappointed with the cocktails as the menu was very limited and their price was not reflected in their presentation. We both had different ‘cocktails’ yet both were garnished with a single slice of lime. However service was quick and friendly, hope cocktails will have improved for next visit.
