My boyfriend and I went here on June 22nd at about 18:15 for tea. We had an absolutely amazing experience, our server Julia did an absolutely amazing job. The food was absolutely amazing as was the atmosphere, I’d highly recommend coming here. I would recommend booking in as it seemed to get very busy, and I can understand why.

Wonderful breakfast, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. The coffee is exceptional! Julia was amazing and couldn't do enough to assist.

This was a midweek breakfast as I was staying close by. The service was good, it was very quiet, and friendly. I had brioche french toast with roasted rhubarb, and lemon pistachio crème fresh. It was utterly delicious. Wish I could have eaten it twice.

Food was amazing! I have been here for brunch and dinner and never fails to impress! The atmosphere was great, busy so obviously a popular great place! Staff were lovely and very helpful!

The restaurant shares its building with three other associated eateries. It’s a successful conversion of a city centre building – all exposed brickwoirk, modernist artwork on the walls and an open kitchen. The “Modern British” menu moves with the seasons in dishes such as a starter of Wye Valley asparagus, with smoked duck breast. There’s shreds of cured egg yolk, a meaty bonbon and a scattering of duck fat crisped granola. A Devon crab rarebit was a cracking idea but it missed out by not having enough flavour of crab or cheese. What there was sat on a hash brown, topped with smoked bacon crumbs. Alongside, a little pickled cauliflower provided a flavour contrast. All very tasty, in spite of the lack of crabby cheesey oomph. Perhaps, unsurprisingly in thei part of the world, main courses heavily feature steaks. There are several cuts on the menu. Herefordshire beef, of course, The restaurant buys its meat from a local butcher who, in turn, sources all the beef from a farm in Kings Pyon (farm to fork miles – about 8). Grass fed, of course. And hung for 28 days for the flavour to really develop. So,, whilst lots of other dishes appealed, we decided on a sharing plate of picanha rump steak. It’s a generous portion, served in thick slices and accurately cooked as requested. There’s a little parsley and watercress salad and a roasted shallot each. And good chips, of course, And you get a choice of sauces – Bearnaise for us – and a good one at that, with a twang from the tarragon. We also had a side order of roasted tenderstem broccoli and almonds. We had no room for dessert and very good espresso ended the meal. Service was very much on the ball, with everything happening just as it should. I’m sure that, if we were locals, we’d become regulars.

Loved finding this place tucked behind the Green Dragon. Really nice brekkie options that remind me of what I’d get in Australia but with a distinctly English flavour. Friendly and attentive service from Olly :)

I had heard and read good things about the restaurant. My partner surprised me with a visit as he knew I had wanted to go for a while. The food was absolutely delicious. Well presented. The staff were friendly and attentive. The decor and atmosphere appealed as my partner is a huge lover of books. Thinking of using some ideas in our home. There were families there with young children and they were catered for and looked after. The restaurant is on one level and had accessible toilets. There is a small step into the restaurant but otherwise it's all on one floor. They cater for vegetarians but I'm unsure about other diet restrictions so you'd have to ask. I'm sure they'd accommodate you. Would Def recommend. There is an outdoor area too you can visit afterwards or before for drinks.

Fabulous Sunday lunch, the restaurant was busy but the service was fab and the food was extremely good, as ever.

Really lovely experience. The food was fantastic, I highly recommend the steaks which are cooked to perfection! The wine was good and paired perfectly with the food without being too heavy. The atmosphere is cosy and intimate, and the service was perfect with very friendly staff!

We had a Sunday lunch at The Bookshop and it was a really nice place with a nice atmosphere and good music choice. The best part about our meal was the Lamb as it was cooked really well and tasted really nice, but we were let down by everything else. A lot of the meal was pretentious and unnecessary things were added like the pesto and the green sauce, the pesto also tainted a lot of the food. I wish we had asked to not have red cabbage as there was loads of it and it was again tainting other veg with its vinegar. The roast potatoes were like rocks and there wasn’t enough gravy for two people. It would be nice to have some dessert options without nuts. The service was fine but our waitress was unnecessarily rude. It definitely was not value for money due to the many problems the food had, but also the fact that you pay for 2 meals, but are expected to share half of it. I had chosen to go here as it was stated it was ‘award winning’ food but it definitely was not.

Had a lovely cider and an amazing dinner with my girlfriend. We chose the lamb which was absolutely delicious with a surprisingly great risotto combination. Great music selection and a very chill ambient vibe. Afterwards went for a drink in the yard which was also terrific. Nate and Georgina were fantastic, very attentive. All round quality service!

After spending a week at Hays Literature Festival, I stopped in The Bookshop on my way back to London. I adored the ambience which is a word / book lovers dream. The music was great, the staff were kind & the steak was yummy. It was the name of the restaurant which got my attention. I wish I could have spent the afternoon writing, reading & chilling here. It reminded me of a time when I would spend afternoons people watching on holidays in Europe. I haven't found a cosy place like this that I feel comfortable in. I wish there was a place like this in London. The price was reasonable. The toilet was clean too. There is a wonderful outdoor seating area which would be great to hang out in too. I would definitely come back if I was in Hereford.

Used to be good. They are now a victim of their own success. Service has gone out the window, they’re always stressed and make you feel like an inconvenience, their food often comes out missing a key ingredient stated on the menu. Sad it’s gone this way…

Simply amazing, from my experience yesterday evening this restaurant should have a perfect 5 stars. Everything was amazing from starters to dessert. Brilliant vegetarian/vegan options. I was blown away by the sticky toffee pudding, literally a little piece of heaven. My waitress (Dani? if I understood her name correctly) was the sweetest, the music in the background was great, and the decoration is beautiful. Well, the absolute full package for a very reasonable price (less than 40£ for starter-main-dessert + glass of wine). Impossible to ask for more, thank you the Bookshop & staff!

10/10 experience courtesy of Georgina, Rory and Martha. Ordered the Picahna medium rare and it came out perfect. One of the nicest steaks i’ve had in a very long time! The atmosphere was sensational with 100% recommend coming here any day of the week.

Always love coming to this restaurant, went in for brunch on Monday and food fabulous as always - had the Bookshop benedict. They also fit us in when we hadn't booked. Service was very friendly, the only downside was the wait for drinks and at one point after waiting 45 minutes we think they might have actually just forgotten one drink order! Which is understandable as we all forget things from time to time but noone came over to check in that time and no acknowledgement when it was brought up which is a shame.

The food was absolutely delicious and the staff are really friendly. I took my two young children to a Sunday lunch service and the bookshop were very accomodating for them.

My wife and her family went there and the pancakes was not good at all they were burnt and for a bottle of water it was £4-5 they will not be going there again

Last minute booking as we were in Hereford for the horse racing, we were not disappointed. Fantastic food, our steaks were superb. The Malbec was a great compliment to the meal. Ollie was very accommodating and informative, he served us well and recommended after drinks. Would totally recommend this restaurant.

Came here on recommendation and saw that it allows dogs. Lovely food, great quality ingredients. Love that it’s dog friendly in the bar area too. Will definitely return again when in the area.

Discovered this after being unable to access a nearby venue due to my disabilities Friend and myself were so pleased we did. Its great place, very much London/ City vibe. Pleasant atmosphere and very attentive staff. Our meals were of a very high quality, well cooked, nicely presented and we had lots of food on the plate! The drinks are a reasonable price too.

I can give a review of the bookshop (or the steak and ale pie) - outstanding. Truly one of the best I’ve had.

A group of 10 friends booked the Bookshop for dinner on Friday evening, and many had not been before. Without exception, every one was impressed with the atmosphere, the happy, friendly service from all, and the superb quality of the food and wine. The steaks were both tender and delicious, and our compliments were given to the kitchen - it was nice to be able to do that personally too. Special thanks to Abi who looked after us, for her friendly professionalism, and for making sure all the food arrived at the same time, and for keeping on top of the drinks orders. Nothing was too much trouble for the team from beginning to end.

We recently visited The Bookshop having won a prize on social media. My wife Emma and I went along with friends to enjoy a bottomless brunch. We were shown immediately to our seats with the full menu on offer and a glass of Prosecco. The Prosecco was generously provided after each emptied bottle was upturned without quibble. We had steak with chimichurri sauce which was divine. The staff were attentive, and allowed us a great and relaxed afternoon. The Bookshop is always our main place to eat as the food staff and atmosphere are second to none. Thank you all at the Bookshop for your kind generosity and giving us a very enjoyable afternoon!!! 🙏

Incredible food for our Valentine’s Day meal, thank you Georgina and Sam for accommodating us because we were late due to a crash! So friendly and kind!

Popped in for an Aubrey fry and a coffee with my small dog, one morning as I was in town quite early. Greeted warmly by Georgina and shown to a table. The staff member Trinity took my order and was extremely polite and pleasant. My food and coffee when they arrived were delicious and the food and plate was piping hot, the way I like it. I enjoyed the background music and the vibe the restaurant gives.

A hearty brunch , the Aubrey Fry. Coffees, teas and hot chocolate - everyone was happy. Sat around for quite a while chatting and nobody minded. We've been here for brunch several times and the quality is always good.

Had brunch at the bookshop & nothing short of delicious! I had the NY breakfast burger & my wife had the poached eggs & avocado on toast. All lovely, and the coffee is the best in town, can’t wait to come back

Friendly attentive service and lovely food. The venison carpaccio was beautiful, the steak and ale pie both tender and rich in flavor while the dark chocolate pudding somehow had a touch of decadence without being overly sweet - all at a very reasonable price for the quality of the food.

First time coming here today 28/1/24 I can honestly say it is the best Sunday lunch I have ever had out. All the vegetables felt like they came out of the ground that morning. Everything was so divine and delicious. My only negative was I thought the beef was a bit tough and chewy. But everything else makes up for it. Service impeccable. Not too rowdy even when the restaurant area was full. Staff excellent. Worth every single penny. Dessert I shared with my partner of creme brulee and sticky toffee pudding. All was just amazing.

Whole experience was a delight from start to finish. 4 of us and we all feel the same. We WILL be back. We all had different meals but all equally impressed. Didn’t think we could manage a dessert after entrées, starters and mains - but decided to risk the crème brûlée- AMAZING! The cocktails - superb. The service - could not fault. Thank you BOOKSHOP .

I absolutely loved my experience at The Book Shop cafe! The poached eggs on toast were perfectly cooked, and my friend thoroughly enjoyed the avocado on toast. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere created a delightful dining experience. Five stars all the way!

It was ok but not great. Would not go again. Lovely staff and service though. The owner asked what was not good - our food was cold (and the meat portions for a Sunday lunch were small) - the staff made a comp for the cold food which was good but it was not a great meal overall. Hence our comment. Sorry, but that's how it was.

Had a lovely time at the bookshop last night, the service was excellent, as always, our server was very attentive so we didn’t have to wait at all even though the restaurant was very busy.we had the sharing T bone steak which was cooked to perfection, I’d also recommend the smashed potatoes, which we’d never tried but will definitely have again. After our lovely meal we went out to the beautifully decorated garden to finish our drinks and there was a band entertaining everyone. All in all a very pleasant evening, thank you bookshop x

We had a pleasant time at the Bookshop for their infamous Sunday lunch. The staff were courteous and timely with taking orders. The atmosphere was especially good to note. There is tasteful decor and comfortable seating. We ordered the beef, pork and wellington (v) for lunch with a range of sides included. The food was good, albeit lukewarm. When the waitress enquired after the meal, we did say about this and they were apologetic and made suitable arrangements for us. Overall, we enjoyed and would recommend. We look forward to coming again.

The ginger waitress, I think she’s called martha, was an absolute delight. Not only was she so kind but she’s also stunning. The food paired with the grest Service was just phenomenal. If you’ve got any doubts of coming here then put them to rest immediately. Book your table immediately.

Wow. Just what we hoped it would be and more. The decor and atmosphere were superb. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Oh and the food was fantastic, the pigeon was divine. We'll certainly be back next time we're in Hereford.
