Wow what a great dog friendly pub with fantastic drinks and food. Our local dog group went to Worcester for a walk and a bit of lunch with the 4 dogs, Murphy, Digby , Monty and Luna. The staff in the pub made us all feel most welcome and provided the dogs with water as well as serving us a variety of drinks. We had a variety of pies and one fish and chips which were delicious. The pub itself is dripping with history but maintains a very warm and comfortable welcome we all would totally recommend everyone to try this place.

I booked here for Sunday lunch for 2 people. We’d never been here before, but had seen that it had great reviews. We would definitely come back. Not only do they do a Sunday lunch menu, they also have another menu running on the day, which has pies, burgers etc.. It’s a small pub with extra seating upstairs. It’s lovely because it’s quite old fashioned and cosy inside, but the food that comes out is modern. We had the vegetarian but roast and it was beautiful. They also had a vegan option which was also a roast, instead of most places offering a vegan option that is nothing like a Sunday lunch.. The staff were friendly and attentive. It’s reasonably priced also. Recommend booking though, as it was busy and several people had to be turned away. The pub also allows dogs. Despite it being busy, you didn’t feel it was at all. I can imagine this would be a great pub for a festive lunch too, so we will be looking out for the menu. Please visit if you are in the area.

What a gorgeous pub!! As soon as we walked in, I was in love. Dark inside with twinkly lights, roaring fire, cosy feel and lovely staff. We only popped in for a drink due to its history, but ended up staying there for around 4 hours and had dinner. Hubby had the faggotts and I had the vegi pie. There were choices to add to your mash which was quirky. I added blue cheese which was flipping gorgeous. The staff were so welcoming and chatty and seemed to enjoy their job. We live in Derby and have already discussed having a day trip just to return here. Can't wait!!

Wow! What a Sunday roast and pudding that was, amazing value for money and the staff were nothing but welcoming and friendly. Staff continuously checked to make sure everything was ok with our food. The pub was busy which is always a good sign, recommend booking a table in advance due to the popularity.

The pub was absolutely crammed and it made it really noisy and stuffy as well as hard to get around. Personally, I feel there was too many tables in there and in a fire evacuating would be a nightmare. Other than that though, the staff were really pleasant and friendly and the food was good. There wasn't the best selection of drinks in my opinion so I just ended up ordering a soft drink. I ordered a steak pie and cheesey mash to eat and the food was done incredibly well. The pie crust wasn't burnt like you get in most places. The pie filling was well seasoned and the cheese mash was cheesy enough without being too cheesy.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was one of the best roasts I have ever eaten. The beef was so tender and cut through like butter, the potatoes were beautifully crispy and the veg all still had a lovely bite to eat and the cauliflower cheese and stuffing balls were exquisite. It was all presented beautifully and the portions were very generous. I’m not a massive fan of Yorkshire puddings and my son wasn’t fussed about the crackling and so we did a swap and the picture shows you what I had! The staff were super friendly and the service was excellent. I am a particularly tricky customer when it comes to restaurants as good food and good service are very important to me but I certainly couldn’t find anything to complain about here! Plus it’s situated in a historic building and is warm and cosy (but certainly not cramped) and we went on a summers day and it was lovely and cool in there. A definite must to go to but you do have to book in advance!

Read some good reviews when looking for somewhere to eat and wasn't disappointed. The pub is very old and has loads of atmosphere. Staff were really friendly and helpful and there was a great choice of real ales-the mild was fantastic. Food is very reasonably priced and the chicken we had was delicious. First time for us in Worcester but will definately call at the King Charles again-many thanks.

The strength of this restaurant is the building which is as beautiful inside as it is outside. Service was excellent, although they wouldn’t share the ‘guest’ wifi password which was a bit odd. We had the pie and mash but we will return to try the steak special offer. The food was good and the prices were reasonable.

Came across this place with my husband and if there’s one word to describe it its perfection. The ambience, the food and the staff are all a credit to the hospitality industry. Even though it was very busy they were very efficient and nothing was too much! Their care for the work place is very clear to see which is a rarity nowadays! We had the braised shin of beef and steak which were absolutely stunning and great value for money. We shall be definitely coming back. Oh and theres a dungeon, I wanted to put my husband down there but apparently there’s a waiting list lol!

Have to say, the best thing about tonight was it was dog friendly. Get there to be told there were no starters whatsoever, No festive pie and the blade of beef has been replaced with shin on the mains by which time we had lost track of what, if anything else they did or did not have as we were being told they could do us a veggie mushroom risotto. The mains arrived within 10 minutes of ordering so can only assume it’s all pre cooked as most of it wasn’t really hot, the extra pot of gravy was the hottest thing on the plate. My wife had the faggots, the top was seared well but the rest had the membrane still visible which I believe supposed to dissolves/disappears when cooked through.. Didn’t have dessert as the only thing my wife fancied, we were told was not available but had been replaced with something else.. Just more than disappointed with the entire food experience and being typically English said we enjoyed it.. unfortunately the best I could say food wise would be that it was edible but we won’t be going back.. I would like to say though that the staff were very nice and did there jobs very well.

Fabulous place - not just the history (it was 1651, not 1657 that Charles II escaped through the pub, despite the typo in the main “about” section) but the quirky, tip tilted building and the really fascinating features. The deep well for condemned prisoners for one, was ghoulishly fascinating. The food was great - pies (with punny names like Kate and Sidney) on a huuuge pile of interesting mash, lots of greens, peas and gravy. Choose your mash with cheese, or garlic, or mustard, or horseradish, or black pudding….you name it, they’ve got it. I actually had the lamb shank which was gorgeous, huge and succulent as well as meltingly tender. The ales and ciders were pretty good too…staff were all friendly, chatty, cheerful and bright, they’re very engaging. Thoroughly recommend, beats the chain restaurants hands down and when we’re next passing through, we’ll head straight for this place.

Very friendly and welcoming pub with great service and great beer. So much history associated with the pub and a really pleasant relaxing unspoilt environment. One of those pubs to which I really look forward to returning.

So happy this place is open again we missed their pies so much. Happy to say they were just as good as we remembered. Definitely will be back again soon and recommend to everyone who will listen

Barman is such a character. Top man. Keep a lookout for the trapdoor on the ground floor! Lots of excellent beers, if you have more about you than stellar and Amstel you may qualify to visit this place.

Popped in, foot sore, a bit late for breakfast and a bit early for lunch and left, later. a man fully relaxed and content with the world. Time to Eat is a real find, what I would call a proper caff. I had the full on breakfast with a generous pot of tea. Just delicious, piping hot and tasty. Lovely atmosphere, a warm welcome and very reasonable prices. Smashing.

Wonderful Sunday Lunch. We cannot remember when we have had such an excellent meal out. No ping ping bought in processed food here. Fresh vegetables, beef was to die for, enormous home cooked Yorkshire pudding. The dessert menu looked lovely but we all were too full. Definitely going to be our first restaurant of choice. Thank you to all of the staff, both front and back of house for a lovely meal.

The pub really has gone down hill. Very funny smell, the food is awful and the staff are really rude. The beer is also quite average and the prices seem to have increased a lot since last year. Definitely sad to see this place doing so badly. So many better establishments in Worcester. Avoid!!

Good large space with plenty of room at the bar. PLenty of chpice on the keg taps. Went here as part of Worcester Music Festival (they were acting as one of the venues) so visited several times over the weekend. Good atmosphere.
