The best restaurants serving British food in Stroud South West

I'm sorry to say, that after reading great reviews and having high expectations of what to expect....the experience was a huge disappointment. 6 of us booked in for Sunday dinner at 2pm,which started well,to be honest....as we were given a choice of the main room or a table set up for 6,in a separate room. We opted for the separate room and took our seats accordingly. After awhile a man came through to take our drinks order and I went 1st....."a o% Guinness please" sorry we don't have that "but I do at my other pub" OK then "could I have an elderflower please" ...."sorry we don't have that" again was the reply OK...."could I have a lime & soda please"....."sorry can't do that due to the trigger on the mixer not working" was the reply. OK...."could I have a lager shandy please"....."sorry can't do that either came the now familiar reply! By this time,it was getting embarrassing in front of the other's waiting to order their drinks and exacerbated,on the point of dehydration....I ordered a tap water.....which along with a gin & flat tonic didn't have ice in. Then.....dinner arrived. I had ordered the 3 meat roast,pork,beef & chicken (£23.50) and my expectations were high....well sadly it wasn't to be. The 3 meat roast consisted of a slice of pork,a slice of beef and a chicken leg plonked on the top...how bizarre! The meal itself was only warm and not piping hot as I would have expected.....after the drinks fiasco,I didn't feel able to complain without drawing attention myself in front of the other members of our party at the table. Finally....the bill came and as well as charging us for £2 for a lime & soda which I couldn't have, an £18 plus service charge had been added to the bill. That was the final insult.....£18 service charge for what exactly?? No drinks of choice and a luke warm meal. I wanted to dispute the service charge but again....I didn't want to draw attention to myself and possibly put my other party members in an embarrassing situation. I would like it refunded to be honest, as another issue I encountered while there....no soap in the soap dispenser despite visiting the toilet at the start of our meal and then again an hour or so later after the meal. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't eat there again or recommend to others to do so either......maybe it was "just a bad day at the office" for the pub on the day of our visit,but then the service shouldn't have been added automatically,if all of the above had been taken in to consideration.

Recently held the wake for a funeral here. Didn’t disappoint very friendly staff. Lots of delicious food and desserts. Lovely setting. I’ve been here on several occasions now and every visit has been pleasant.

Pleasant pub with helpful service and bar staff. As a vegetarian there were a couple of choices as I eat fish, but don’t always want fish. Would have been nice to have a salad choice due to warmer weather, only one was Waldorf with chicken/stilton; maybe a veggie one with goats cheese/ Stilton or similar ? Garden area nice but some tables/ chairs needed updating or replacing.

We have always loved coming to the Weighbridge and having not been since the new owners took over which turns out to be 12+ months ago we visited the first Saturday in February with friends. We all picked the two in one pie in various guises. Mine was a steak n mushroom but I chose to have the root veg for a change and I thoroughly enjoyed it. As we were playing catch up with some friends we were probably the last to leave. There was no pressure put upon us which had certainly happened to us with the previous owners. In fact we chatted with the new landlady and she was very friendly and pleasant. Will definitely return.

We visited this Easter weekend as a family party of 11 to celebrate a 70th birthday. Can’t praise the setting, food and service by the staff highly enough. What a lovely experience, thank you ☺️

Delicious food, thoughtfully sourced and beautifully presented. Much thought has gone into every taste and texture. Good vegetarian choices. Pricier than we'd normally pay so we go here for our special occasions. Never disappointed. Highly recommended.

We stopped here for lunch, what a mistake. I ordered the lasagna salad and chips, the lasagna wasn't in a dish, it was just a tiny little square with little or no taste. The salad with salad cream was something from the 70's. What a disappointment, not like your normal pub grub fare these days. Other people had cold jacket potatoes and wrong orders. It shouldn't really be happening these days......

This is a fabulous pub. My favourite anywhere. Great atmosphere and many locals who know each other. A true community hub. Ignore the clown reviewing below. It’s almost always packed. Take your cash back to the last century. Glad you’ve gone somewhere else

Wonderful roast dinner, my partner had the lamb roast and I had the beef. The food was beautifully cooked, meat tender and lots of veg Great pub staff are friendly, service and food brilliant. .

a few friends and I were finishing our walk for the day on the cotswold way. we’d seen a few videos from walkers that were able to stop in at the carpenter’s arm and thought we might try and get there if we could! hands down one of the best stops we made! when we first arrived, there were a group of men sitting around the table talking. there was a local, welcoming vibe from the beginning. we walked out back to put our packs down and realized the outside eating area was one of the best we’d seen! the sweeping views are unreal! we didn’t catch the pub owner’s name, but she is the most delightful person! we ordered a couple pints and sandwiches and it was honestly the best food we’d had since being in country. when traveling internationally, these are the kinds of experiences that you can hope for. We were so thankful for this stop and for such sweet interactions here!

Always an excellent place to have a spot of breakfast/lunch. The owner I think Kim? Is always so welcoming along with all other staff. Food is delicious + tea, coffee great! Couldn’t recommend this place more! Yummer!!!

We were looking forward to our visit here, but by the time we left, we wish we had gone elsewhere. The restaurant was freezing when we arrived, and we did put this down to the restaurant, having just opened. I did, however, eat my food with my coat on Being a vegetarian and it being Tuesday, my only option for a main was mushroom tacos. I don't like mushrooms, so I had to have some sides as my main. I think this needs to be reviewed. Halfway through our food, my husbands plates were then cleared away. Yes, he had finished his food but I was still eating. I find this rude. To top this off while eating, the staff stated talking about moving tables around in the quiet area we were sitting in. It felt as though we were in the way. While the food was tasty, the service and atmosphere weren't great. It's such a shame

Last time visited “ small Americana “ was 1.95. Then 2.10. Today……2.60. No reason despite costs…..to elevate to this price… There are unfortunately not a lot of “ good coffee shops in Dursley” could do with “Costa” or Coffee1 “ Wake up call……for these stupid prices…..if you want to “ stay open” I’d review all your prices/ ….or you soon will be “ gone” No one wants to fell “ conned” last visit for me!!

We handling here every now and again because we love sitting by the small canal and watching the wildlife. The food is good value. I really enjoyed the Waldorf salad today which was fresh and tasty along with cheesy garlic bread which was a perfect side.

Fabulous food, so delicious and all cooked freshly everyday. Excellent value and wonderful, friendly service. My favourite deli ever. All my family love their meals.
