Delicious food, thoughtfully sourced and beautifully presented. Much thought has gone into every taste and texture. Good vegetarian choices. Pricier than we'd normally pay so we go here for our special occasions. Never disappointed. Highly recommended.

As a group of foodie friends staying in a house near Stroud, we had unfortunately chosen a very rainy weekend. As a result to get away from the rain we went into a pub and on chatting with the friendly landlord he recommended we try a restaurant in Stroud called Dinner at Six.We swapped our pub reservation and duly got a taxi and were shown to a nice spacious table in the middle of the busy restaurant. Great looking place with lovely ambience and good acoustics which is helpful when you are a group trying to hear one another.Super staff all friendly, all had different meals, main courses and puddings and it was all superb. I had good old steak and chips and the meat was tender and tasty and cooked to perfection with twice cooked chips and a lovely sauce, ten out of ten! My friends who tried most things between them all were impressed too plus timings were good and all presented very well. Shame we live a long way away or this would definitely a regular haunt so thank you for a super meal, we loved it

Visited for dinner. Good choice for all 3 courses. My black pudding croquet with poached egg and crisp pancetta was very tasty (and filling!). Lamb rump was perfectly cooked and accompanied with a very tasty jus. The almond cake was a little bland and needed the mango sauce to liven it up. Saw the previous comment about dessert portions but our desserts had 'many mouthfuls' - no complaints there. Very reasonable wine list. Couple of small complaints; the waitress could have explained what type of bread she brought out and my friend said that there should have been more of the excellent sauce with the cod dish. Prices reasonable for this quality of food. Well recommended and will definately visit again. Long time since I had a decent meal in a Stroud restaurant!

Finally......I hate to be a food snob but I can finally have a food at a restaurant in Stroud that can compete with any restaurant in any larger City. The food isn't what many would consider cheap, but then it shouldn't be, time and effort has been put into designing and executing these dishes and me and my father enjoyed every last mouthful. Its certainly worth paying a little extra and really getting something that blows your socks off. service was excellent, not too much attention (constantly looking over your shoulder, i hate it!!) but never had to wait for a helping hand. Really happy with the dining experience, which is why i decided to write this review, as anyone who enjoys good food and is in the cotswolds would be mad to go anywhere else if theres room to fit you.

We have visited this restaurant several times for lunch. The food is good, although portion sizes are small for the price, but their customer service is not so good and lets the Resturant down. Today we sat at a table for at least 10 minutes we had to ask for a menu and eventually had our order taken. Once the food arrived we were left to our own devices and not asked if we wanted anything further. I don’t even know if they do desserts etc!! We left the Resturant and went down the road for a coffee.

Unfortunately the waitress spent most of the time chatting to a friend at the counter, our order arrived in two parts with a 5-10 minute wait between the two. When we went up to the counter to collect our cakes as we were fed up of waiting she became very curt and unfriendly. Can't knock the food or drinks, they were really nice.

Beautifully cooked and presented, although the "modern" trend of limited vegetables leaves us wanting more of them!No pudding but a great mini tea and double Espresso served in a delightful little Demitasse Cup. Visited today for the first time with a couple of work colleagues after work. The restaurant has a lovely decor and pleasant atmosphere. Staff is polite and service was prompt. Food is tasty and well presented, however me and my friends have noticed that the protein portion part of the meal was extreme small (we had the cod and sea bass). In other places, you would get a bigger fillet or maybe two (depending on the fish). So we felt that although the food is very tasty, it is a bit overpriced for what you get. We had dessert too and the pistachio ice cream is divine.

We booked into Dinner at Six having being recommended it by a friend and we had a lovely evening there. The ambience was nice, relaxed, welcoming and it was busy without the waiters and waitresses being rushed off their feet. I had a delicious cheese soufflé and trio of fish which was very tasty, and my partner also thought his food was excellent too. Only let down was the dessert. I love my desserts and was disappointed with the teeny piece of brownie I received for £8, enough for a couple of bites! An image of the brownie dessert on their Facebook page had looked a bit bigger! It was lovely tasting but just so small (see image)! My partners cheese board looked far more satisfying on the other hand, several good chunks of cheese. It’s a bit pricey but worth it for a treat as it was a lovely night out.

When I booked I was asked if anyone had any food allergies - yes I said, gluten free. How great I thought and what a great idea as good preparation equals good experience. This information was checked as we booked in so imagine my surprise as we were given their usual paper menu with a felt tipped red lines through all the things that we could not have! Then they brought bread to our table saying - you can't have this! They had gluten free bread in the building as we were offered some to accompany soup. Why not have some for the table? I have to say the food was excellent and there were a few choices left after deletions. Small portions but tasty. We asked for the dessert menu - I was almost intrigued if there would be anything on it - but it didn't ever arrive....apparently it was being printed! We had waited a long time for drinks previously so gave up and asked for the bill (pricey!), we left no tip and went home slightly hungry and rather put out.

One thing we did like was that a bottle of chilled tap water was brought to the table before we were asked if we would like any other drinks. No pressure, which is good as we’re not big drinkers. We originally visited Dinner at Six on 26th August having booked as an anniversary dinner for 2. When we booked we telephoned to check that the menu was the standard one on their website, only to find on arrival that it had been changed to a specially themed lobster event. As neither of us like lobster and the rest of the menu lacked choice, we went elsewhere and I wrote a report on TripAdvisor about how disappointed we were. Within a very short time, the manager of the restaurant contacted me by phone to apologise for the situation. Apparently, a member of staff had been instructed to call us due to the menu change but on checking, this had not been completed with every booking. He offered us a complimentary meal at a date and time of our choosing. As we were staying nearby in Frampton-on-Severn all week, we made arrangements to visit on our last night. On arrival, the staff were courteous and welcoming. We passed on starters but I chose the lamb rump with dauphinoise potatoes whilst my wife opted for seared cod with smoked haddock and bacon chowder. To follow I ordered the cheeseboard and my wife the glazed Parisian lemon tart, raspberries and meringue. I accompanied this feast with a beer whilst my wife had an espresso Bailey's martini. The food and drinks were perfectly cooked or prepared, beautifully presented, served with professionalism and style. It was all absolutely delicious! It is often said that you shouldn't judge a company by the mistakes it makes. Rather you should judge them by how they remedy those errors, how professionally they put things right. And Dinner at Six excel at putting everything right so expertly that I would like to praise both the management and staff for a really excellent dining experience that we will never forget. My thanks to all concerned for turning a disastrous experience into a truly memorable one in the end. As we live in Kent, it is sadly unlikely that we will be in Stroud again in the foreseeable future. However, if we were, we would have no hesitation in booking there again. In fact, just try and stop us! We would recommend Dinner at Six without hesitation to all friends and family, and have indeed done so on several occasions since.So....why did the error ever happen in the first place if this place is so good? My guess is that a manager instructing an employee to perform a task does NOT guarantee that it has been accomplished. Tasks ordered to be carried out need to be checked off diligently. And perhaps spot-checked to ensure all has been done correctly. I am certain Dinner at Six will ensure any bookings are informed of major menu changes in future. Both of us wish them every success for the future. They deserve that.

I'd originally booked our anniversary dinner at Dinner at Six for the Friday night. But they rang me weeks later to say they had a special event private party booked now for that night, so basically tough luck on me. I rescheduled our anniversary meal for the Saturday as I'd read some excellent reports on this restaurant. Well we spent the afternoon in Stroud enjoying the shopping, the street food market, the music festival and made our way to Dinner at Six at the booked time. A bidG sign outside declared a "Lobster Festival" which brought us a bit of horror as neither of us like lobster. On entering, when I asked the waiter if there was any other main rather than lobster, he said, "Butternut squash or rib-eye steak" now I love ribeye but as we'd had steak the previous night and neither of us fancied the squash, we decided to leave. Why had nobody telephoned us about this? They had my number on the booking. Patently, they really don't care a damn about potential customers as they'd now let us down, not once, but twice over the same booking. To my mind it's a pretty poor show to suddenly specialise on one night on seafood regardless of why customers had pre-booked. So, beware fellow searchers of good food in Stroud. They'll probably have a Pizza Extravaganza special or a Vegetarian Festival, or Swordfish Night next time. Pay no attention to what they tell you when you book. I asked if it was the standard menu and was told a most definite YES,As for Dinner at Sx's organisational and communication skills, they score a feeble 1 out of 10.We will NOT be booking again. What a bloody shambles!

The restaurant started filling up as our meal progressed, another good sign. We declined a starter but were offered warm artisan bread, olives, and a balsamic vinegar and olive oil dip. My wife asked for the dip recipe, and the waiter obtained a hand-written note from the chef with the details. We had the cod and the hake, followed by ginger sponge with ice cream and a brandy snap, plus the brioche bread and butter pudding with ice cream. All was beautifully prepared and tasted delicious. Some reviewers have queried the portion sizes, but we found them absolutely spot on. With beautifully prepared dishes , full of taste and rich sauces, you do not need overflowing plates, plus chips with everything. Go to any top restaurant in London and you will find the same portion sizes, for two/three times the price!

Started with cocktails then worked through a very good three courses. One of us was vegetarian - the menu doesn't indicate which dishes are vegetarian, which is a shame, but they were able to let us know. Likewise the wine list - thankfully they have a 'secret' stash of a vegetarian white and red. For those who aren't aware, non-vegetarian wine contains gelatin (remember 'mad cows' ?!) or fish swim bladder (isinglass) - thankfully supermarkets label their own wines appropriately.

Their twice baked soufflé is one of my favourites when eating there, and it was as good as usual. My scallops to follow were perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and very tasty. My friends pork belly won top marks, but unfortunately his second starter arrived different to that ordered. We didn't have time to wait to change it, so he ate what was put in front of him - which was very good. The accompanying glasses of Chenin Blanc were very nice. So, I would have awarded five starts if it had not been for the order error.

We came on the recommendation of friends and were not disappointed. I love fish and creamy sauces and was able to indulge this with my main course.Delicious! My husband chose the duck and was impressed with this and the accompanying duck leg croquette. The wine was excellent and reasonably priced considering the quality. We agreed this was the best meal we had eaten out in Stroud since moving here seven years ago.

If you would like a different breakfast in a nice setting then choose here. We arrived early Saturday morning and went to the market which itself is brilliant and full of local food produce and products. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had for breakfast the Rosti, pancetta, egg and the tortilla with chorizo, avocado, feta, poached eggs and pea shoots. All nicely cooked and beautifully presented. Will certainly come again. Thanks

Excellent service. The menu has enough choice but is not one of those that has so much you wonder how on earth it can all be cooked to a good standard. The twice cooked shuffle was wonderful and the duck was seriously one of the best dishes I have ever had out. A real gem to find in Stroud.

Visited Dinner at Six on Easter sat eve, it was really busy and had a great atmosphere. We were a party of four but found three other tables with friends eating there too. We all had starters, and mains which were all fantastic. I really like that D @ 6 keep the menu small but do it so well. This is a great place, keep up the good work.

After having eaten here on a couple of occasions I was really disappointed with this visit. 3 out of the 4 dishes we had were at best average and for £17.50 per dish I was definitely expecting more. After this experience I doubt I will visit again. It's a real shame that standards have slipped.

Went as a group of 4 for a friend's birthday dinner on a Saturday night. The food was very nice, but a little overpriced we felt. Lamb dish was £18.50, and no better than at other local places where prices are a little lower. We expected something really impressive after reading reviews and from hearing of other friend's experiences of this place, and left a little disappointed. Plates from our starter of bread and olives had not been cleared when our main courses were brought out, so not the best service that you would expect for these prices. All in all, a good meal, but have had just as good elsewhere in the local area for less money. A shame.

Love the decor, loved the gin cocktail and a nice touch doing a Mother's Day special cocktail. The bread was such a high standard and not out of place at any of the fine dining restaurants we have eaten at. We all had a lovely meal with lots of flavour packed into them plus a delicate presentation. We were too full for dessert but they looked delightful and will definitely not have breakfast before we come next time! So nice to have a good quality restaurant with this quality of home made food back in Stroud .

I have only been to Dinner at Six once, but had one of the best meals out with my friends. Everything was spot on - starting with high quality selection of bread offered. Quite pricey, but well worth it. Only downside was, it wasn't very busy for a Friday night, so i hope they will survive on those numbers. Definitely worth a try!

My wife had visited earlier in the year and raved about it, so on our next visit to Stroud Market (well worth a visit, great food for sale) we popped in for lunch. She had the smoked haddock chowder and I had the mushroom arancini. Both dishes full of flavour served in hot plates, always a positive for us, nothing worse than hot food on cold plates. Would heartily recommend this restaurant to anyone and will make this a regular venue. Good house wine and excellent French fries. Shared a Greek yoghurt cheesecake for pudding. Deconstructed but none the worse for that. Staff friendly and efficient. £40.00 for lunch, good value given the quality.

My sons and I visited during half term and enjoyed a delicious lunch. The bread was absolutely scrumptious (all homemade). The youngest had fish goujons and the eldest had a bacon rosti with bacon and an egg. Both were enjoyed and finished with clear plates. Visited here on a Friday evening with my husband. We were greeted by a lovely young lady who, together with another waiter, looked after everyone in a very efficient manner. The menu had a good, varied choice of food and we shared a mixed bread basket with oil/balsamic and olives - lovely. My husband chose seafood chowder for the main and I had rump of lamb, which was so tender it melted in the mouth. Although we didn't have a pudding or a proper starter, all the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked very generous. This is one restaurant worth visiting.

Visited with some friends. Limited menu which apparently changes on a daily basis. The price on their sample menu online for a steak was £17 but in the restaurant it was £20 - an increase of 15%! I rang and spoke to both the Manager and the Owner the following day to mention it was misleading and was told it was a sample menu. In my opinion, if you are advertising something on a website the exact same thing in the restaurant should be at the same price. Will we visit again? No! The food was good, although don't expect any trimmings with your steak, but their attitude was certainly not good when I contacted them re their pricing the following day.

We had the selection of breads and olives, to start, delicious. Then we all had starters which were also delicious. For mains I had the rump of lamb which was fantastic. A weekend visit to a friend who lives locally brought me to this restaurant as her guest - living in Italy for many years with stays only in London,I didn't imagine lunch on a weekday in a small unassuming place in Stroud was going to be anything other than a moment to relax and chat. What a total surprise to find an interesting menu, well cooked and beautifully presented, and me scraping my plate wishing I hadn't finished my dish. I realised the food was prepared by staff who were dedicated to their work and this was confirmed by my friend whom I now envy for living so much nearer than I to this delicious restaurant.

Dinner At Six has a lovely interior, and lovely food. I had two starters as a main as they looked too good not to have, ans a dessert, and was very impressed with how tasty it all was. What's more, I'm gluten intolerant and the chef altered the menu so that I could have most of the starters and mains, which was excellent as food choices can be limited when eating out at a restaurant.

Nice venue, friendly staff and good starters but main courses were disappointing. The rib eye steak was not worth £20 as there was as much fat and gristle as quality meat and the dessert was warm on the outside and cold in the middle. Needed a bit more attention to detail. Have been here 3 times before and it has been better than this visit previously.

We pre-booked for opening time (6pm) but this one of the many establishments where not much happens for the first half hour or so - except for a procession of folk heading to the kitchen from the front (?only) door, some carrying boxes of veg or other food, a bit thought provoking really. Plus the procession heading to and fro the loo at the back of the premises, or maybe is it a secret entrance to GCHQ. Duck main course was fine, venison less so, same sauce on both, which I find a dead giveaway, fusspot that I am. Pudding OK except meringue roulade had precious little meringue and a whole stack of whipped cream. Overall, could and should do better for the money

Went with my daughter for an evening meal. The menu is clear & not burdened with over-elaborate descriptions. The staff are very friendly & efficient. Quite a spacious room with a bar area at the front, neutral but not boring decor. The food is excellent - one had goat's cheese which came with roast beetroot & candied walnuts - neither of which are a favourite - staff happily replaced this with a green salad. Other starter was smoked haddock fish cake with poached egg - generous flakes of fish & perfectly cooked egg - piping hot. Complimentary bread basket of home baked breads - unfortunately we didn't have the appetite to sample them all. Both had duck for main course - confit, seared breast & pulled duck rissole with red cabbage, potato Rösti & butternut squash - again all perfectly cooked. Dessert menu very inviting but we didn't have room. Return visit definitely on the cards.

No issues with the food -- all dishes were excellent! But my two grandsons (age 9 and 11) got quite antsy waiting, waiting, waiting for the food to be delivered. Some might call it "relaxed service" but I call it just plain slow. Maybe it's their way of selling more wine (the two adults in our group had two bottles whereas we normally would have had one). Cost of dinner for 5 was £220, which I felt was definitely on the pricey side. But no complaints about the food (all various fish dishes), which were great.

Popped in there for a quick lunch after shopping at the Christmas market. Though it was busy, they made room for us. The menu has a diverse range of options -- from soups & salads to sandwiches to fish & chips. Their portions are very generous, and everything is homemade using fresh, local ingredients. I had a packet with vegetables that was delicious. My husband had the bacon sandwich, and he had a big smile on his face. Also ordered were a salad and a bowl of soup; both received rave reviews. Then we went back again for another lunch a week later. This time we enjoyed their fish & chips which were awesome!!! Our granddaughter gives two thumbs-up to their chips :) They also have a delicious bread & olive appetizer that is very nice. Highly recommend this establishment for a delightful meal in a relaxed atmosphere.

Visited before Christmas for an annual catch up with great friends. We were a table of 10, we all compared several local restaurants' Christmas menus and chose Dinner at Six because of the menu variety and content. The choices were fantastic full of intriguing flavours along with some more simple choices to suit all. The actual food was fantastic, beautifully cooked and well presented. Service was great throughout and three courses for £28 was incredible value for money. Definitely worth a try and we will be using one of our rare child free nights to visit this place again in the next 12 months. It felt like a great quality meal without the pretence of going somewhere stuffy and uncomfortable.

I'm sorry to say, that after reading great reviews and having high expectations of what to expect....the experience was a huge disappointment. 6 of us booked in for Sunday dinner at 2pm,which started well,to be honest....as we were given a choice of the main room or a table set up for 6,in a separate room. We opted for the separate room and took our seats accordingly. After awhile a man came through to take our drinks order and I went 1st....."a o% Guinness please" sorry we don't have that "but I do at my other pub" OK then "could I have an elderflower please" ...."sorry we don't have that" again was the reply OK...."could I have a lime & soda please"....."sorry can't do that due to the trigger on the mixer not working" was the reply. OK...."could I have a lager shandy please"....."sorry can't do that either came the now familiar reply! By this time,it was getting embarrassing in front of the other's waiting to order their drinks and exacerbated,on the point of dehydration....I ordered a tap water.....which along with a gin & flat tonic didn't have ice in. Then.....dinner arrived. I had ordered the 3 meat roast, pork, beef & chicken (£23.50) and my expectations were high....well sadly it wasn't to be. The 3 meat roast consisted of a slice of pork,a slice of beef and a chicken leg plonked on the top...how bizarre! The meal itself was only warm and not piping hot as I would have expected.....after the drinks fiasco,I didn't feel able to complain without drawing attention myself in front of the other members of our party at the table. Finally....the bill came and as well as charging us for £2 for a lime & soda which I couldn't have, an £18 plus service charge had been added to the bill. That was the final insult.....£18 service charge for what exactly?? No drinks of choice and a luke warm meal. I wanted to dispute the service charge but again....I didn't want to draw attention to myself and possibly put my other party members in an embarrassing situation. I would like it refunded to be honest, as another issue I encountered while there....no soap in the soap dispenser despite visiting the toilet at the start of our meal and then again an hour or so later after the meal. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't eat there again or recommend to others to do so either......maybe it was "just a bad day at the office" for the pub on the day of our visit, but then the service shouldn't have been added automatically,if all of the above had been taken in to consideration.
