Great food and drink. One complaint is that they ran out of caffeine free coke early in the evening.

We turned up at 10.45 for Breakfast today to be told the trough was shut as it shuts at 11! We then asked if we could have a coffee in the legbar no that was also shut but the pizza place next door was selling coffees and croissants but it wasn’t because it doesn’t open until 11am and it was only 10.45 so we had to go outside and stand in the freezing cold to get a takeaway coffee in the garden centre not the experience we had expected and I have been visiting Daylesford since it opened. Where has the service gone? Where is the client comes first it would seem the place is now run for the convenience of its staff only!

We've eaten here before and it's been good. Not so today. We ordered a sausage brioche bap and a bacon, sausage and egg brioche bap. For the two plus a water it came to £17.50. I'd have been happy with that if the two meals had arrived with some sort of salad or garnish, but no, bap on bare plate. Both brioche baps were quite stale. The service was good but it was pricey for poor food. Not surprisingly it was empty other than us, on a busy Wednesday lunchtime in a prime spot in the centre of Gloucester.

Popped in on Monday lunchtime and very much enjoyed scampi and chips - both were excellent quality and nicely presented - mushy peas are at extra cost which is fair enough. Tartare sauce is also at an extra cost and that is not so fair. Neither is it very good containing too much dill and little capers or gherkins if any. Fish and chips shops have faired badly since the pandemic. Oil prices sky high and fuel prices through the roof in addition to this - staff costs and pretty much everything else has gone up. But it’s friendlier to the customer if tartare sauce etc is included in the cost. People don’t like extra costs. Menus could do with reprinting as they are torn and don’t look good - napkins could be a little better and a slice of lemon with the fish would upgrade the dishes a little. These are not complaints just observations. The sign outside says one of the top ten fish bars in the UK. With. Little tweaking it could be No.1

The New Inn has charm with its period features and courtyard, but it's let down by lack of investment in my opinion. Simple things can be fixed, like adding a grip to the exterior steps leading up to the hotel to make it less slippery in rain. The rooms could do with some basic maintenance to remedy the peeling paint and wallpaper. The staff were wonderful though, no complaints there at all. However the room itself... The room was spotless and clean, but it looks very tired with water damage in the bathroom, poor water pressure in the shower, no working light in the bathroom, and a really uncomfortable mattress. The furnishings were fine, just dated. The mattress is a problem though.
