Disappointing. Most staff were very polite but one lady behind the bar continually turned her back on us and would not serve us leaving a very polite young man and only remaining member of bar staff on a Sunday lunch time with extra work. Order took 1 hour to come and was not served in order sequence. Sunday roast was fine but the baked fish had the lemon slice baked in. Would not recommend and would never go back. Shame.

We found the pub by chance of the hottest day of the year, the courtyard was packed and we had to wait for a table to come free but it was worth it. Although very busy the staff are excellent and you don’t have to wait too long, we both had sandwiches with salad garnish and chips together with some nice wine an enjoyable lunch.

My husband and I found finding a place for lunch in Gloucester very difficult, until we came across this super pub. The Manager (I think) greeted us and gave us the menu. I found it fine, as a non meat eater it can still be difficult to eat out. The food was served promptly and was delicious. This will be the place we will return to when we pop into Gloucester.

My wife and I called in on a wet and miserable Thursday afternoon for a meal, The fountain is an old coaching in with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Staff are great and friendly. Plenty of choice on the bar and a good selection of Ales 🍺 Again, great selection of meals on the menu and specials board but not too much that leaves you scratching your head what to have. I had breaded bre with cranberry sauce starter, which was very nice. I can't remember what my wife had lol 😆 but she said it was very nice. We both had the 10oz rump steak 😋 OMG! Does this chef know how to cook a steak? It was absolutely amazing 👏 came with a choice of potato, we had chips and all the trimmings which left us completely stuffed and there was no room for pudding, Highly recommend you pay a visit 😀

Myself, partner and 2 friends popped in after we had been puppy shopping. The breeder recommended it. We are real ale and pub people., having a real ale pub ourselves in Rugby. We only intended to have a couple the go for a wander. The beer, the service infact the whole team. The lunchtime team I think the lady was called viv looked after the toilets as well as the bar shift. The toilets were excellent and super clean. It made it a pleasure to pee🤣 unlike some other pubs. We ended up staying till 8pm including food. ( if the toilets are looked after then so is the cellar and kitchen). My steak was a little more cooked than asked for. But superb all the same. Please pass on my thanks to your Monday team. They were all superb. We will be back next time we are in Gloucester. Maybe for the Ed Slater Cup versus Leicester Tigers. Thankyou

The food was very fresh and the atmosphere in the bar was very friendly and cordial. This is the third time we've been and will definitely make it our local for food and drink. We eat here quite often, it’s clearly a popular pub, the main menu is pretty basic and there is a Specials Board. Disappointing that the bar lady would not agree to, or ask the kitchen if they would change Chunky Chips to French Fries for us, both are on the menu and some dishes even state “choice of potatoes”. Update returned, 09.04.24 Yes you can change chunky chips for French fries, fab food tonight well done Fountain staff.

We were on holiday and visited the pub on the basis of their excellent reviews. We were not disappointed! We both had the steak and ale pie which was the best we have ever tasted, and I have sampled many a steak and ale pie! It was piping hot and the chunky chips were scrummy too. We both had sticky toffee pudding which was delicious. The drinks were very reasonably priced. It was a shame we weren't there to try their Sunday roast. A little disappointed in the Sunday lunch, not a lot of veg and most certainly not home cooked roast potatoes. After googling to find the best Sunday roast in Gloucester, this pub came up. We managed to get a walk in spot and I had roast beef and companion roast pork. I had high expectations but the beef and pork was so dry and overcooked I couldn’t cut it, roasties were bland and tasted like frozen ones from the shop and Yorkshire puddings burnt. The service was prompt and fantastic and atmosphere was great in this historical building. I tend to base how good a roast dinner is based on the potatoes, and there was just nothing that got me excited.

This is a lovely place, Staff friendly and helpful, Food is really nice, Atmosphere nice, seating indoors is nice and outdoors also in the court yard, This was first built in the 16th century making it one of the city's oldest ale-houses and was the city's last brew house in the 1950s, This is set in Gloucester just off a side street, It was re-built in the 19th century, So after a walk around Gloucester nice place to relax and enjoy a drink and food, Will be going back and definitely recommend. So now using this lovely place at least once a week it never fails on serving brilliant food, last week we had the steak offer for two people steak and a bottle of wine 🍷 for £30 the steaks were cooked to perfection. Last night jacket potato 🥔 was really good and my partner had cottage pie said was good also, the staff never fault on their service and being friendly and helpful and atmosphere remains lovely, no matter when go in always busy and tables reserved. 5 stars ✨ So 13/10/2022 got to say another lovely meal and brilliant service and warm welcome.. Another lovely meal and service, atmosphere really nice and again so helpful to accommodate my anxiety 30/12/22.. Booked a table here for 11 people for last night 20/01/2023. Pre-ordered food and have to say they were busy but got food out exactly as ordered and nice and hot and no one had to wait was brilliant service and food and no complaints.. We went in tonight 06/07/2023 and found that girl serving behind bar not as friendly and welcoming as the other staff. We went to sit outside but discovered nice little comfortable inside seating area with comfortable sofas and couple tables to eat at. Was really nice and relaxing this is situated out door and through courtyard. Went for Dinner here I'm disappointed that they only one option for fruity cider still and specials board same as few months ago. The staff are still friendly and welcoming and nice to see just as busy. I asked for soft peas and they came out like bullets, but rest of the meal was nice..

The Fountain Inn in Gloucester is situated in a nice part of the city centre, very near the beautiful cathedral. The interior of the pub really does, as advertised, look like a country pub. It's small inside but has two dining areas, so for meals it accommodates more than appears to be the case on first impression. The food is absolutely first rate quality and a very reasonable price. Whilst the pub feels warm and inviting and the other patrons we meet are often friendly, as regular visitors we've unfortunately found that the same can occasionally not be said for many of the staff. Whilst service at the bar is usually quick and we're tended to at table very diligently, many of the staff, regardless of age, can be monosyllabic when spoken to, can come across as sullen and can occasionally even be quite rude and brusque in response to friendly enquiries or order requests - especially when they're busy. This is a shame for a pub which otherwise faultless.
