Maybe it's not fair for an American to rate English pub food. Everything we had was good and I would go back. Fish & chips very good. Massive piece of flaky white fish, perfectly cooked. The guac on the nachos was the only thing less than 5 star.

Great food and an excellent selection of beverages of all kinds. We always get a warm welcome from the team that run the pub. It's situated in an ideal location near the Cathedral and on a short cut to the docks; although in the city centre it has a country pub vibe. Also our dogs are treated to a bowl of fresh water and more importantly the odd gravy bone or two.

Very old pub in Gloucester, 16th century. You have to go down an alleyway to get to it. Accessable with a wheelchair. Large L shaped room, carpeted and good tables and chairs. Disappointing. Most staff were very polite but one lady behind the bar continually turned her back on us and would not serve us leaving a very polite young man and only remaining member of bar staff on a Sunday lunch time with extra work. Order took 1 hour to come and was not served in order sequence. Sunday roast was fine but the baked fish had the lemon slice baked in. Would not recommend and would never go back. Shame.

Plenty of choice on the bar and a good selection of Ales 🍺 Again, great selection of meals on the menu and specials board but not too much that leaves you scratching your head what to have. I had breaded bre with cranberry sauce starter, which was very nice. I can't remember what my wife had lol 😆 but she said it was very nice. We both had the 10oz rump steak 😋 OMG! Does this chef know how to cook a steak? It was absolutely amazing 👏 came with a choice of potato, we had chips and all the trimmings which left us completely stuffed and there was no room for pudding, Highly recommend you pay a visit 😀

Myself, partner and 2 friends popped in after we had been puppy shopping. The breeder recommended it. We are real ale and pub people., having a real ale pub ourselves in Rugby. We only intended to have a couple the go for a wander. The beer, the service infact the whole team. The lunchtime team I think the lady was called viv looked after the toilets as well as the bar shift. The toilets were excellent and super clean. It made it a pleasure to pee🤣 unlike some other pubs. We ended up staying till 8pm including food. ( if the toilets are looked after then so is the cellar and kitchen). My steak was a little more cooked than asked for. But superb all the same. Please pass on my thanks to your Monday team. They were all superb. We will be back next time we are in Gloucester. Maybe for the Ed Slater Cup versus Leicester Tigers. Thankyou

We eat here quite often, it’s clearly a popular pub, the main menu is pretty basic and there is a Specials Board. Disappointing that the bar lady would not agree to, or ask the kitchen if they would change Chunky Chips to French Fries for us, both are on the menu and some dishes even state “choice of potatoes”. Update returned, 09.04.24 Yes you can change chunky chips for French fries, fab food tonight well done Fountain staff.

We booked a table here after reading past trip advisor reviews, as we were out for the day from Hereford. A little disappointed in the Sunday lunch, not a lot of veg and most certainly not home cooked roast potatoes. The other meals coming out to other tables which were not a Sunday roast looked better and plenty of it. Also staff behind the bar not friendly and welcoming at all. After googling to find the best Sunday roast in Gloucester, this pub came up. We managed to get a walk in spot and I had roast beef and companion roast pork. I had high expectations but the beef and pork was so dry and overcooked I couldn’t cut it, roasties were bland and tasted like frozen ones from the shop and Yorkshire puddings burnt. The service was prompt and fantastic and atmosphere was great in this historical building. I tend to base how good a roast dinner is based on the potatoes, and there was just nothing that got me excited.

This is a lovely place, Staff friendly and helpful, Food is really nice, Atmosphere nice, seating indoors is nice and outdoors also in the court yard, This was first built in the 16th century making it one of the city's oldest ale-houses and was the city's last brew house in the 1950s, This is set in Gloucester just off a side street, It was re-built in the 19th century, So after a walk around Gloucester nice place to relax and enjoy a drink and food, Will be going back and definitely recommend. So now using this lovely place at least once a week it never fails on serving brilliant food, last week we had the steak offer for two people steak and a bottle of wine 🍷 for £30 the steaks were cooked to perfection. Last night jacket potato 🥔 was really good and my partner had cottage pie said was good also, the staff never fault on their service and being friendly and helpful and atmosphere remains lovely, no matter when go in always busy and tables reserved. 5 stars ✨ So 13/10/2022 got to say another lovely meal and brilliant service and warm welcome.. Another lovely meal and service, atmosphere really nice and again so helpful to accommodate my anxiety 30/12/22.. Booked a table here for 11 people for last night 20/01/2023. Pre-ordered food and have to say they were busy but got food out exactly as ordered and nice and hot and no one had to wait was brilliant service and food and no complaints.. We went in tonight 06/07/2023 and found that girl serving behind bar not as friendly and welcoming as the other staff. We went to sit outside but discovered nice little comfortable inside seating area with comfortable sofas and couple tables to eat at. Was really nice and relaxing this is situated out door and through courtyard. Went for Dinner here I'm disappointed that they only one option for fruity cider still and specials board same as few months ago. The staff are still friendly and welcoming and nice to see just as busy. I asked for soft peas and they came out like bullets, but rest of the meal was nice..

Great little olde world pub! We always pop in a few times when visiting Gloucester. Nice selection of drinks available and reasonable prices. Theres a decent amount of seating without being too cramped but it does get busy and is obviously a popular choice for lots of people. They have some lovely grub on offer too - we dont eat here often as usually just visit for an evening drink but we have eaten there a couple of times in the past. The offering is good hearty home cooked style pub food which doesn't disappoint. Poor poor service. The manager I think had a bad attitude as I asked why they had stopped food at 7?? Apparently for a staff meeting then his little mate started to pipe up asking what the problem is. Not what you need after travelling and a days work. I felt threatened as they ganged up. Similar thing happened the week before when I sat at a table in an empty restaurant to be told aggressively that I needed to be sat. There was no indication of this anywhere. The food was ok and the building is lovely. A massive pity. Use the Greyhound down the road very accommodating. I travel a lot and use Chef & Brewers regularly being a Premier Inn account holder - I will not step in one of them again!
