Nice quiet city centre spot with enclosed courtyard. Good choice of regional brewery ales, I had Ramsbury MPA.

Went here for lunch, excellent value and friendly service, loved it.

Great staff, friendly and knowledgeable. Good range of beers and gins. Food great, very popular, including vegan, and gluten free. Dog friendly, water bowls in courtyard, and free dog biscuits on bar.

Food is excellent, must book in advance at weekends, all day food so very popular because it's good! Several real ales on tap, nice courtyard beer garden hanging baskets. Occasional music venue which is a very nice evening in the summer in the courtyard

I went for Saturday dinner at this delightful pub. Packed with history and character. The staff were amazing and offered us a great service. Ordered Ham, Egg, and Chips. Huge portion but totally worth it. Tasty and good-quality produce. Dogs are welcome and would recommend this pub to any of my friends and family. Thanks for a good evening and hope to be back soon!

Visiting Gloucester for the first time to attend a gig at The Guildhall and looking for somewhere to eat, we stumbled across this great little pub tucked away at the quieter end of Westgate street. The food was excellent and the staff were attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good value traditional English pub meal.

Thankyou so much! We came in for lunch today with out booking. We were a mixed group of 8 including 2 toddlers and a great grandmother. You all made us feel so welcome and found us a big table a little away from other diners which was perfect. The food and atmosphere is fabulous. We don't eat out often but have been coming here for special lunches for over 20 years. You've always been great. I had your baked cod today and it was fabulous, well done to the Chef too.

There prices is really good 2 10 Oz stake and a bottle of wine for only 40£ really good deal. one of the best stake I had would recommend

We popped in for lunch before the rugby and got the last table that wasn't reserved. Great tasting food at a fair price with a good selection of real ales.

A very atmospheric pub with friendly service

We went here for a meal as it had been highly recommended but were sadly disappointed. The food was ok, the sausages good but the burger a bit dry and overcooked. The accompanying drinks were expensive compared to other pubs in the area. We would not return here when there are so many other places to eat and drink.

Yerp, great, will come again soon! Insides as lovely and as charming as the charming outside yard area, wood burner going taking the edge off the March chill. Wonderfully attentive and welcoming staff. Wide drinks selection, loadsa ales, non alocoholic selection too :) Varied menu to suit all budgets. Steak and wine deals. Specials menu. Even has cheesecake of the day :) Had steak and Jail ale pie - lush and flavoursome. Their beef lasagne went down well with my bro-in-common law, and my sister says her Bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich (on granary) was "THE BEST sandwich I've ever eaten out!". Comes on hand carved doorstops of bread and looked fit. Chips and fries cooked well, side salads worth saying yes to. Puddings delish AND... they'll do cold custard on your puddings 😂 #win Great value for money. Thank you for making our family meetup so worth it :) ♥️

Great little hidden gem. Food was very good value for money. I Had trio of Gloucester sausage with mash it was very good portion and very tasty. Other members of our party had lasagne, Sheppards pie and chick pea curry and they were just as impressed with their food. We will certainly return again

I asked what was GF on the menu as I am celiac. The lady on the floor wasn't very helpful at all.i found her to be rude. The girl behind the bar was giving me funny looks. The older guy behind the bar was very nice and helpful. Otherwise the service was shocking from the to women.

We found this little gem just by chance, what a result. What can you expect, a very warm welcome, a roaring woodburner, great hospitality and service, a great range of beers & beverages, bloody marvellous quality food with very good portion sizes at a very reasonable price. The pub is traditional, no games machines, music, pool tables etc. We only went in for a drink ended up spending the whole afternoon and evening there. Helen who ownes the pub and all her team arw fantastic, really friendly and helpful.

Had friends visiting and we were keen to give them a good night. Food was fantastic, as always. Service prompt and attentive. Nice range of beer available.

After a short time the manager refused to serve shorts to our group, there was no explanation but we thought probably because we didn’t order food.

Food was very good, only thing was they let a bunch of older rugby guys in and one of them got very rude and obviously couldn't handle his drink spoilt our experience

What lovely old pub ! We managed to sit right infront of the fire and had some lovely food. The goats cheese stack was to die for and my partners battered fish was huge and perfectly cooked. Really fresh tasting fries. It was all lovely. A good selection of drinks and music playing. Toilets clean and it was all cozy.

Lovely friendly pub. We were lucky to find a seat as the pub was packed and I can understand why. The menu was varied. I chose the smoked salmon, prawns salad and my husband chose a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich. Both were extremely good. I would certainly recommend The Fountain. I think you should book not to be disappointed, as I said above we were lucky today to get a table.

Having booked an evening at Gloucester Cathedral, we needed somewhere to eat. We made a last-minute booking, and I can say we weren't disappointed. The food was very nice and the service was excellent. There were 6 of us, and everyone enjoyed what they had! The Inn has a lot of character and a great selection of beers and ciders. It was just a shame I was driving.

It was my first experience of Sunday Roast, and I really liked it. It was very juicy, with nice sauce and well cooked.

We are local to the town and eat in the pub every week, the food is great staff very accommodating and the pub has a nice atmosphere. I would definitely recommend.

I know this is a dog friendly pub BUT a dog sitting on a chair and being fed at the table from its own bowl is disgusting. To make things worse our roast lunch was tasteless, floating in gravy and we had to ask for steak knifes to cut the meat. Left more than we ate. I did bring the dog issue to the waitresses attention her reply was it’s the owners prerogative to do so. Didn’t see the table cleaned after the dog had finished sitting at the table.

Went for dinner on Wednesday night, we had fish and chips and halloumi burger with sweet chilli with chips and salad. Absolutely gorgeous, came out piping hot. Good night out.

We have been to the fountain many times before. Today I had garlic mushrooms, my wife had beef nacos. When it arrived it looked lovely. When we tasted it the salsa was very vinegar based, the guacamole was a very green sauce from a jar, the salsa was smooth and no texture, very little cheese. This was our first disappointing meal to date . We spoke to the manager and she was very good and offered a replacement meal . We declined as we had picked around enough food. Come on the fountain team . Your food is really good . This was a wetherspoons meal . We will be back .

Had food here Saturday with another 7 family members. Service and food was great and even let us take a dog in with us. Great pub and highly recommend. Food was great too but I would definitely recommend booking as it was very busy.

Absolutely brilliant. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Dog was also made to feel very welcomed with water bowl and treats. Huge menu that suited everyone. My sister in law said it was the best lasagne she had ever eaten. I had the steak and ale pie which was lush. Would definitely go back! Thank you!

Maybe it's not fair for an American to rate English pub food. Everything we had was good and I would go back. Fish & chips very good. Massive piece of flaky white fish, perfectly cooked. The guac on the nachos was the only thing less than 5 star.

A regular haunt and great local proper pub.

Not a thrilling menu, just pub grub. But really well cooked and decent servings fit for hungry people on a wet evening. Warm friendly atmosphere with warm friendly staff.

Good choice of food. Lots of blackboard menus dotted about but a more extensive menu is on offer too so be sure to check it out. Nice outside court yard if you just want a drink. A private function room which was beautiful.

Great food and an excellent selection of beverages of all kinds. We always get a warm welcome from the team that run the pub. It's situated in an ideal location near the Cathedral and on a short cut to the docks; although in the city centre it has a country pub vibe. Also our dogs are treated to a bowl of fresh water and more importantly the odd gravy bone or two.

We keep going back! Food and service always good. It is great to have somewhere that is reliable, welcoming and friendly.

Absolutely beautiful food service and atmosphere. Cannot recommend highly enough. I had vegetable lasagne, others had sweet potatoe curry and a scampi and chips. Staff very friendly and attentive. Food came very quickly and was all absolutely delicious

We were so happy to have found this place as the food was fantastic! The cod was the best ever. We enjoyed the place so much we returned after walking around the city. The service was good too.

Had the two steaks dinners and wine for £38, absolutely spot on. Staff lovely, food lovely and wait time not long at all. The only reason I didn't give 5* for food was because I had to pay extra for sauce, no other negative at all. Highly recommend

Very old pub in Gloucester, 16th century. You have to go down an alleyway to get to it. Accessable with a wheelchair. Large L shaped room, carpeted and good tables and chairs. Usual tap beers with a good selection of real ales. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Nicely decorated. Beer was good. Enjoyed my visit.

Lovely atmosphere with friendly staff and great food. The service is swift and always with character and a smile and the meals are stunning. Very lucky to have this gem so close to home.

Disappointing. Most staff were very polite but one lady behind the bar continually turned her back on us and would not serve us leaving a very polite young man and only remaining member of bar staff on a Sunday lunch time with extra work. Order took 1 hour to come and was not served in order sequence. Sunday roast was fine but the baked fish had the lemon slice baked in. Would not recommend and would never go back. Shame.

My brother and his wife hadn't been in the Fountain Inn for more than 40 years. We had a great meal, in a great atmosphere, topped off with great beer. We couldn't have been made more welcome.

Arguably one of the best lunch spots in all of Gloucester. Incredibly friendly staff, amazing food, and a great atmosphere with frequent live music, to boot.

Very busy at time. Didn't wait too long to be served. Good range of drinks including real ales. Fountain sandwich was lush and such good value for money, served with salad and chips. A must try.

We found the pub by chance of the hottest day of the year, the courtyard was packed and we had to wait for a table to come free but it was worth it. Although very busy the staff are excellent and you don’t have to wait too long, we both had sandwiches with salad garnish and chips together with some nice wine an enjoyable lunch.

My husband and I found finding a place for lunch in Gloucester very difficult, until we came across this super pub. The Manager (I think) greeted us and gave us the menu. I found it fine, as a non meat eater it can still be difficult to eat out. The food was served promptly and was delicious. This will be the place we will return to when we pop into Gloucester.

Met a friend there today. The fish and chips looked delicious on the next table. Flakes of white fish in a crispy batter. My friend chose it and it didn’t disappoint! I had steak & ale pie. I’ve never seen so much meat in a pie! Very tasty. Great value for money. Lovely busy pub with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. The Pinot was exceptional too! Worth a visit!

My wife and I called in on a wet and miserable Thursday afternoon for a meal, The fountain is an old coaching in with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Staff are great and friendly. Plenty of choice on the bar and a good selection of Ales 🍺 Again, great selection of meals on the menu and specials board but not too much that leaves you scratching your head what to have. I had breaded bre with cranberry sauce starter, which was very nice. I can't remember what my wife had lol 😆 but she said it was very nice. We both had the 10oz rump steak 😋 OMG! Does this chef know how to cook a steak? It was absolutely amazing 👏 came with a choice of potato, we had chips and all the trimmings which left us completely stuffed and there was no room for pudding, Highly recommend you pay a visit 😀

Staff are alright and work hard. Food was pretty good value. Make sure you book a table. A good place to sit outside when sunny.

We were looking for lunch after visiting the cathedral and luckily found this pub, a bit hidden away! Very friendly welcome and we were immediately shown to the family room next door and luckily we were also told to order at the bar!! We German tourists are not used to this 😉 Nice selection of food, delicious local ale and the kids got something to paint too! Food came quickly and was fantastic! We will definitely be back on our next visit to Gloucester… Thank you 🤙🏻

Myself, partner and 2 friends popped in after we had been puppy shopping. The breeder recommended it. We are real ale and pub people., having a real ale pub ourselves in Rugby. We only intended to have a couple the go for a wander. The beer, the service infact the whole team. The lunchtime team I think the lady was called viv looked after the toilets as well as the bar shift. The toilets were excellent and super clean. It made it a pleasure to pee🤣 unlike some other pubs. We ended up staying till 8pm including food. ( if the toilets are looked after then so is the cellar and kitchen). My steak was a little more cooked than asked for. But superb all the same. Please pass on my thanks to your Monday team. They were all superb. We will be back next time we are in Gloucester. Maybe for the Ed Slater Cup versus Leicester Tigers. Thankyou

Came for Sunday Roast. Nut roast was very good but the rest mediocre - potatoes not crispy, Yorkshire pudding too doughy and vegetables boiled not roasted. Very slow service, waited 45 mins for food

My friend and I went in on Saturday lunchtime, sadly my husband had passed away only a month before so I was a bit emotional trying to order my food. Widows fog. I explained to the staff what had happened and they were amazingly kind and assisted me with our order. We both had sandwiches which came with salad and Fry's. The food was very fresh and the atmosphere in the bar was very friendly and cordial. This is the third time we've been and will definitely make it our local for food and drink. If course the Staff make best of the Fountain . Thank you all for making it a happy occasion.

We eat here quite often, it’s clearly a popular pub, the main menu is pretty basic and there is a Specials Board. Disappointing that the bar lady would not agree to, or ask the kitchen if they would change Chunky Chips to French Fries for us, both are on the menu and some dishes even state “choice of potatoes”. Update returned, 09.04.24 Yes you can change chunky chips for French fries, fab food tonight well done Fountain staff.

The place is dog friendly. It has a beautiful terrace and in summer it might be great. It’s really big and the staff is very nice and friendly. Highly recommended. The Fountain Burger is a must have. I am not a burger person but it’s definitely the best.

We had the best burger in a long time. The service was kind and attentive, my dogs were welcomed and provided with water. Great atmosphere, music right volume and good selection.

We were on holiday and visited the pub on the basis of their excellent reviews. We were not disappointed! We both had the steak and ale pie which was the best we have ever tasted, and I have sampled many a steak and ale pie! It was piping hot and the chunky chips were scrummy too. We both had sticky toffee pudding which was delicious. The drinks were very reasonably priced. It was a shame we weren't there to try their Sunday roast. The staff were very friendly and attentive, a credit to the pub. One of the locals had a gorgeous well behaved dog who loved all the attention. Can't recommend this pub enough!

Loved our visit here....wouldn't have found it if we hadn't seen a notice. It was slightly like going back to the 80s, but that's in a good way. Homely, relaxing, and great food with service. Definitely go back.
