If you're not starving when you order, you will be when it arrives. We're locals, and we went recently to give it another chance after avoiding the Haywain for a very long time due to the drinks on draft giving us all an upset stomach, on more than one occasion. Big mistake, it has actually got worse! We went at lunch on a bright sunny day, but it seems more dingy and dark on the inside than ever before. The interior looks very tired. The food took a very long time to arrive, and it wasn't even busy. We only ordered bottled drinks as we still don't trust anything on draft there. The atmosphere felt flat. It wasn't bright and cheery like some other local pubs. Its only saving grace is the serving staff are lovely and do make an effort. Instead, I'd recommend the Haywains close sister pub, the Barn Owl, which is also a Marstons if you want the same menu. Otherwise, staying in the vicinity for local pubs and their grub, you'll be much better off spending a little bit more and going to either the Thatch, The Friars, or the Bumblebee.

Despite awarding 4 stars for food, service and atmosphere, I'm awarding an overall 2 stars purely for the cleanliness or lack if it in the venue. It's decor is tired, it's not been updated since the refurbishment of 2010, it's tables feel dirty and sticky to the touch and I often have to wipe the table down myself with my own travel wetwipes. The women's toilets are in a very poor state and it's clear that they aren't checked on a regular basis. I only visits this pub because a friend uses it often as it's near to their home. I normally frequent the Haywains sister pub, The Barn Owl which is much nicer in decor and cleanliness. It's not a new thing with the cleanliness, it's been like it for years and it spoils what would otherwise be a fantastic pub.

Food cold but it was put right straight away and why are dogs allowed in restaurant when not a guide dog as it is not very hygienic to have dogs at the next table

Well what can I say, I came in with some friends for so food the service was fantastic that I received from Kaylee, she couldn’t do enough for us, Ryan that manger also made us feel at home

Second time being there. Each time had a vegetarian meal, both times not what was written or described on menu. Thai curry on menu said included bamboo shoots or sugar snaps. Today the salad said it included quoina, brown rice, kale and soya beans. None of these were included and just had cucumber, tomatoes, salad leaves and a few slices of pepper. The upholstery is a mess, chairs with half upholstery missing and leaving you having to sit on just foam. Staff were friendly. Fish and chips looked cracking.

Went in there after an exercise class, around 12 ladies, couldn't have coffee as the machine was broke, I had tea lovely pot but anyone else had a mug as they never had any more teapots, I would of thought a large company like that would have more than one teapot. Think that was our last time there.

I would like to give a big shout out to Kaylee, who went the extra mile for us all today. We booked a hen party here and Kaylee did amazing on the decorations we couldn't ask for better service and she was so helpful. Will definitely be coming back. We have one very happy bridle party.

We regularly visit the Haywain and as always had a great visit today :) kids had fun in the garden and we enjoyed food and drinks whilst getting some sun. Sure we’ll be back a lot over the summer

Visited the Haywain for the second Sunday on the trot whilst in Gloucester to buy a car. On both Sundays the service, food and atmosphere was excellent. For a Sunday roast I would honestly say that if you’re in this area book a table at the Haywain. The staff were excellent as was the service. Fantastic, and when we are back in this area we will be back at the Haywain.

First time in the place with my friend had turkey roast and beef roast which was lovely .. just a shame cranberry and horseradish sauces where missing. Tried to go to bar but was busy overall I'd come back

Christmas Day Dinner. Our first time having dinner there Christmas day, but have dined at the Haywain many times over the years, food always great. From start to finish, everything was lovely, served all courses promptly by Debbie and Ryan, the food was first class and presented well, great atmosphere, tables spaced out well, an all round lovely experience. Definitely booking Christmas Day next year.

Kaylee is so tentative, knows me and my husband by name, all staff know our drink orders and make an effort to talk to us, even if it’s during a busy period of glass collecting!

I was served by a lovely lady called Kaylee who really helped, I can’t thanks her enough. Being a first time mum going for a meal can be dreadful but she really eased my nerves and my little boy loved her too, thanks you so much for being helpful and so caring. Mia, Kaylee and Courtney gave exceptional service towards me and my family, very attentive and always had a smile on there face, Keira provided all the necessities you’d expect from any staff, well presented and great tasting food, props to Alex and Cole.Personally recommend the kebab with hot maple sauce. Highly recommended good variety of drinks also!

Went in on Father’s Day were told they didn’t have any tables but pub was empty, would of left but were meeting family in the area so sat outside, we sat outside with a drink and it was too cold for the children so we went inside and asked again and they got us a table, ordered food simple stuff lasagne, burger, chips food was terrible lasagne was microwaved to within an inch of its life! Small portions for the price, four adults and 2 children one being a baby who shared ours, came to over 70 pounds for food one course! we didn’t complain at the time because everyone was so hungry especially the children but they could have done a lot better, how can you get scampi and chips wrong I don’t understand? We used to eat here all the time when it used to be 241 and food was good, we won’t be back I’ll microwave my own lasagne from Tesco

We had a really lovely meal at the harvester today. I was very pleasantly surprised because I hadn’t been for a long time due to different landlords who were not very welcoming at all. My friend suggested going for lunch at the Harvester informing me of different landlords and also had good food so I am so pleased that I agreed to go. We not only had excellent choice of food we had excellent service from the waitress Debbie. We had a lovely conversation with her. So I can only recommend giving them a chance to prove how good they are.

I had an amazing experience at The Haywain Quedgeley Gloucester today,the food was great and the table service was well beyond any usual service I have received before, Debbie was my waitress and she made myself and my family very welcome and anything I asked for wasn’t too much trouble,she was very advisable on the best deal of the day to suit my families needs and I really didn’t feel like she had to rush off and tend to someone else,she seemed very interested us and made great conversation ,I will for sure be paying The Haywain another visit very soon especially if Debbie is the calibre of staff that works there

Food was good, tables clean, menus were sticky, service was polite & correct. Ladies toilet facilities were grubby & scruffy with a broken cubicle and toilet rolls on the floor. Hand drier is too high as it dries your face not your hands. Front entrance door needs the door closer to be fixed as its broken.

We came on 15/5/24 with a voucher for 30% off main course. We ordered 2 Sirloin steaks medium rare. Both came out so well done you could not cut them even with a steak knife. The mushrooms looked raw!! We did complain saying we ordered medium rare. The manager said he agreed and it was not medium rare and offered to cook them himself. We.watched as he continually served behind the bar so the replacement steaks we definitely not cooked by him!! When the new steaks finally arrived that seemed to be medium rare they were that tough you had difficulty cutting them!! Very disappointing all round and would definitely not recommend x

Took some residents from SM care to celebrate a birthday. We were served by Debbie and Kaylee who were incredibly accommodating of dietary requirements and behaviours as well as singing Happy Birthday for one of our residents! Couldn’t thank them enough!!

The Manager was unfriendly and blatantly lied about a booking. We would have accepted a simple apology but we didn't receive one and felt insulted.

We ordered a portion of garlic mushrooms to come with the main meals but was brought out as a starter instead obviously no communication from the the order being placed and the order being brought to our table we also ordered a hunters chicken the chicken was dry and bland we also ordered a Mega mix grill the sausage had no taste the chicken was dry food was brought to the table and was told the onion rings would be out shortly but was brought garlic bread as they had run out of onion rings ( no one asked if we wanted something else ) as we already had garlic bread ordered. This was the first and last time I will come here Shame the rose tree has closed down their food quality and service was a lot better than at the haywain

Great food generally, but peas were either over cooked or something. They weren't green and some were yellowish in colour. This is a one off as I've been many times and food is great otherwise. Drinks were too watery too with no flavour. I ordered a lime cordial and a blackcurrant and an orange squash for the kids. Despite the blackcurrant and orange having colour, there was no flavour to it, you could barely taste it. Same with the cordial. Have been a few times over the months and drink consistency is the same. Please measure the cordial and squash mixture out using a shot glass or something that will give the correct strength and consistency.

Food is very nice. Marstons investing in the future of the building with solar panels - wish they would have spent money on a refurb that is very overdue especially gents toilets. Can be very busy especially on the weekend and early evenings.

Nice atmosphere great food good value but pub could do with updating looking a little tired but new menu very good food only thing is dale is leaving so will see what new landlord will be like only hope it stays the same

I went with my 2 small girls for a pub Sunday roast, we was greeted very kindly by Courtney who showed us where we were sitting, very polite staff and the food was delicious, hats off to the chef

As I'd not been here before I didn't have any expectations... however I was pleasantly surprised..nice relaxing atmosphere quick service and the food was fantastic...as I vegetarian there are usually the same suspects but to my delight there was barbecue cauliflower wings absolutely fantastic compliments to the chef😊😊

I have to say, a Sunday evening is a pleasure for all at the Haywain when Kaylee is working. She is bright, friendly, professional and best of, on the ball.. totally aware when someone is waiting for a drink and aware of who was next to be served.

Absolutely disgusting, went for Mother’s Day, breaded mushrooms cooked from frozen, had to wait for one of the starters, what wasn’t delivered, when arrived finally bite into them, cold water juices came out of my mouth, seats in disgusting state, NEEDS UPDATING, when staff came over, very understanding, and agreed,( I think the staff are used to people not being happy about the food) I asked for the money back, definitely WILL NOT be returning,
