Wheatstone Inn in Gloucester

Poor poor service. The manager I think had a bad attitude as I asked why they had stopped food at 7?? Apparently for a staff meeting then his little mate started to pipe up asking what the problem is. Not what you need after travelling and a days work. I felt threatened as they ganged up. Similar thing happened the week before when I sat at a table in an empty restaurant to be told aggressively that I needed to be sat. There was no indication of this anywhere. The food was ok and the building is lovely. A massive pity. Use the Greyhound down the road very accommodating. I travel a lot and use Chef & Brewers regularly being a Premier Inn account holder - I will not step in one of them again!

Absolutely amazing food, food was out quick, staff was lovely! Portions were amazing, we even had to take some home! Will defo be returning!

We stayed at the Premier Inn next door as we often do, but hadn't eaten here for some months. We booked for an early dinner and were seated as soon as we arrived. Welcome was friendly and our drinks order was taken and delivered very quickly. I ordered belly pork and my partner ordered smothered chicken. Our food was delivered quickly, and my pork was perfectly cooked and delicious. My partner's chicken unfortunately was overcooked to the point of being burnt. Our server Sam dealt with it quickly and professionally - he replaced the dish quickly, and this time it was well cooked. What stood out most to us was the professional and friendly way he dealt with it - exactly how one would expect a reasonable complaint to be dealt with. We think he was a credit to the restaurant, and he made us want to return.

We had the absolute pleasure of dining at The Wheatstone Inn, and it was truly a great experience, thanks to Chef Vincent and our server Sam. Chef Vincent went above and beyond, personally preparing a perfectly cooked Sirloin steak. The steak was simply amazing—tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. You could tell it was prepared with care and expertise. It was truly one of the best steaks we've ever had in Gloucester. Our server, Sam, was equally outstanding. He was incredibly attentive, ensuring that we got everything we needed and gave some great suggestions. Sam was great friendly, and hospitable throughout the entire meal, making us feel right at home. Great positive energy from the team running this Pub, great atmosphere, making the evening even more special. Between Chef Vincent’s talent and Sam’s exceptional service, it was a memorable experience from start to finish. We will be back!

Nice food. Great value for money. Go frequently for quick good food

Plates felt "grainy" like they hadn't been washed properly. Gammon, egg and chips came with cold rubbery egg. Colleague's burger came with cremated bacon. We were testing pub for a Xmas Do, but it'll be more of a Xmas Don't!

Went for dinner today with friends. Food was amazing, we all had a roast dinner. Lovely clean place. Food was amazing! Service was brilliant! Would highly recommend and will definitely be going again. Many thanks. 5 stars!!!! 🌟

We came from Liverpool for our grandson Joshua’s 8th birthday and chose this place to celebrate as it was a perfect location from tenpin bowling arcade across the way. We where mum dad nan and grandad, along with two other siblings, Vincent and Samual aged 3 and 18 months. Jordan was our host and was very accommodating, he was a perfect gentleman and I loved that he was so interactive with the whole family and addresses Joshua as sir when asking about Joshua’s meal. We brought a cake and it came out on a platter decorated with chocolate covered strawberries. This was over and above expectations. There was another member of staff who booked us in who was so welcoming and very polite, but didn’t get his name sorry. Please recognise these staff members on my behalf. Thank you 😊

Food was very cold, and had to be sent back. However Jordan our waiter was phenomenal, best we have ever had. Very polite and friendly and was determined to make sure we were happy, made our mediocre food experience 100x better!

Good food, nice surroundings, enthusiastic and friendly staff, Jordan and Jacob looked after us very well. We had a variety of dishes all were hot and well cooked.

For a chain pub you get a surprisingly good meal at the Wheatstone. Our waiter, Jordan, was very professional.

Delicious food and very excellent service from waiter and host, Jordan. Found the Wheatstone by chance via Google maps, as there was not much to do in our hotel (Holiday Inn). The Wheatstone Inn certainly made up for that. A night out in an attractive restaurant. Greetings from 2 Dutchman

Great pub with friendly staff and really good food. Seasonal menu offers some more unusual choices which are well worth the slightly higher price compared to other pub chains.

Normally I take a picture of what I’m about to eat but I dug straight into my food. It was so delicious I forgot! Also I was hungry haha. I highly recommend the Creamy Garlic Mushrooms and the Steak & Ale pie, they were top notch! The table server Jordan was excellent, making sure everything was correct and allergens were noted on the order. He was friendly and he was the one who actually recommended the mushroom starter to my husband, (which turned out delish) so he knows the menu well! The pub has a cosy, homely atmosphere. Easy to get to by car. I will be visiting again to try other things!

My girlfriend and I eat here often and really enjoy it. Food is good service is also good. The place isnt fine dining would class it as relaxed and good pub food. Our server today was Jordan, he was really nice and nothing seemed like too much effort. I would recommend this pub for a nice place to eat.

Always a pleasant visit at the Wheatstone and it has become one of our favourite restaurants. We’ve found Jordan to be the best waiter there as he’s very personable and friendly, makes the whole experience a joy and nothing is too much trouble for him. If he isn’t a manager yet he should be- let him teach the whole team how to develop great customer service skills, as this can make or break a business these days! Thanks again

Very pleasant Sunday roast yesterday with my family. Jordan was a great server, giving recommendations and just an all round happy and attentive guy, engaging in conversation with us too. The food itself was delicious. Slight tweaks to the menu recently with better choices and works well. The roast itself is also more plentiful. The rib of beef was succulent and tasty, and plenty left over to box up and take away (for my dog). Thanks Jordan. We will return soon.

Myself and a colleague came to the Wheatstone Inn for an evening meal, the food was delicious and the service by Jordan was great, very attentive funny but also gave you space to enjoy your evening. Would recommend the steaks and the fried bbq chicken starter

Food was at a good standard restaurant was comfortable and well spaced out. Jordon our waiter was so polite and really looked after us nothing was too much trouble .

We have been going to the Wheatstone Inn for quite a few years. Sadly, over the years the menu has changed, the food has deteriorated and nothing much is the same. Tonight was an impulse decision to go for a meal. Lovely and sunny out there so we booked a table for 7.15pm, being told that was the only time available as fully booked. Arrived early and got in for 6.45. Ordered starters, garlic mushrooms, pork cider terrine. Garlic mushrooms served, 1 mushroom on a piece of bread in a gloopy flavour less sauce. Yes, not lying 1?mushroom!!! We questioned this and we’re told that the serving of mushrooms pended on the size of the mushroom. My husband was offered somebody else’s starter of the same. He had now two slices of stale tasting sourdough bread and TWO mushrooms, whoopie! Pork cider terrine served with 1 slice of toasted sourdough bread rock hard. Not sure what the white stuff served along side was. Main courses were acceptable. Chicken duo with wild rice which tasted really soapy. hubby had mixed grill. His steak was very chewy. Thought we would share a desert. Ice cream advertised with real jersey dairy milk etc.We expected a really lovely ice cream desert. It was not, very crystallised ice cream with very little flavour, we had chosen chocolate and vanilla. We addressed this with the waitress and she was very sorry!! Anyhow, just thought we would give you an honest review! It certainly was our last visit to the Wheatstone Inn. We have tried and tested it many times and always given it the benefit of our doubts.

Lovely newish pub which feels old. Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. Always a good meeting place for planning for scouts! Vegan Burger tasted amazing. Could do with a few more dairy free options. But other than that a good solid pub with decent parking.

This is a ‘chain’ pub so it can sometimes be assumed that the food and service will leave something lacking. However, this is not the experience I have ever had at Wheatstone. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble. There are the usual offerings on the menu which you might expect from pubs like this - but my experience here has always been positive with food nicely cooked, well presented and served with a smile. I find it a convenient place to meet friends and we never feel as though we are rushed. The place is clean, easy to access and has plenty of car parking. Thank you to all the staff for another good experience.

Amazing and charismatic service served by Jordan which has really added to the visit at a place we visit as a group often. Was not only a friendly service but also very attentive and very timely with drinks and food orders! Give the guy a raise! Good customer service like this deserves reward!

We were served by Jordan..what an amazing young man.. nothing was too much trouble..he was so attentive and caring..I also listened to the way he spoke to the 2 young children at the next table.. he went above and beyond..I have worked in the hospitality sector and he is an absolute credit to the company.

Nice place with a good menu, we all found something we liked. We were well looked after by Jordan who made sure food arrived promptly and that we were happy with it.

We were booked in for early afternoon. Resteraunt was very well spaced out and not oo cramped to other people. We ordered the veggie Wellington and rib of beef. The whole meal was fantastic, all cooked perfectly with a great amount of vegetables. Had to ask for extra gravy, which was no issue. Could not fault it, great service, great food and very reasonably priced.

Jordan served us and was excellent! He gave advice on different food for our fussy children and checked up on us regularly to ensure the food was good and we didn't need anything else! We had 3 courses for 7 of us, all served in good time and very tasty! A great lunch

The majority of the food tasted great ( mixed grills, chicken burgers & Mac n cheese ) . the staff were really helpful and friendly, however the notes/changes to meals didn't make it to the chef or they where just ignored.

Jordan who provided our service was excellent - very personable, patient and gave us what we needed. Food also was good, together with drinks and atmosphere, a great evening!

We stopped in for an evening meal a family of Four, two adults and two kids. Jordon served us and was a breath of fresh air. He was so personable and brilliant with our youngest who is a handful at 5 years old. The food is pretty standard chain pub grub, that’s what we expected. However it was made memorable by Jordon who is a credit to the place.

The Wheatstone Inn is rapidly becoming our go to place to eat when we visit Cheltenham. We ate there again last night 4th August 2024 and had another incredible meal. However, we were disappointed that they did not have the Lamb Shank Shepherds Pie - it wasn't available on our previous visits either. Jordan served us last time and was just a delight. He served us again last night but as we had mentioned that we would be in the restaurant again today, he went out of his way to try and make sure that the Lamb Shank Shepherds Pie was available. We have just been in for lunch to find Jordan running the restaurant today and were delighted that the the Shepherds Pie was there as promised - and it didn't disappoint! Unfortunately, I never thought to take any photo's - it was just too good. Once again, The Wheatstone Inn has delivered on every level. Great location, great venue, fantastic staff, welcoming and professional staff, not forgetting of course the amazing Jordan. What a star, nothing it too much trouble and certainly goes above and beyond to deliver a wonderful customer service. Congratulation Jordan, they are lucky to have you. We had the pleasure of eating here last weekend for the first time and cannot wait to go back. The interior is well laid out, bright and airy and the tables are well spaced, so that you don't feel that you are sitting on top of one another. We were greeted with a smile, seated, provided with menus and offered drinks. The menu choices were extensive made it difficult to choose - good job we were going to eating there twice! The food was amazing, hot, fresh and delicious. All the staff were attentive, professional, cheerful and just lovely. However, I feel that I must single out Jordan - what a lovely young man and a credit to you. It's nice to see that good old fashioned customer service is alive and well at The Wheatstone Inn. We genuinely cannot wait to go back. Keep up the good work :)

We were a large awkward table of 7, indecisive, loud and just a general pain, there for my husbands birthday so there was a loud round of happy birthday too, with a great brownie, candle and chocolate sauce written happy birthday. Keira was unlucky enough to have a to deal with us and she was wonderful. She popped over after she a debate about croquettes to give the right information, only then to be sent away again to find out something else which she did with a smile and promptly returned with the answer. There are some people who are just great at dealing with other people and she is one of them. The food was great but service like that makes me want to recommend this place to everyone and go back again...although I promise it won't be as many of us and we will try to be less of pain! Thank you it was a lovely evening.

The location next to a motel off a major road made me think the worst but it is actually a really nice old pub. The food was okay, the service was very good.

Fantastic service provided by Jordan. Stopped off on our way to Devon for a meal as a family of 5 (2 adults & 3 kids). He engaged with our boys, nothing was too much trouble and he was so helpful. We had a great evening, a varied sensibly priced menu, the food was delicious, particularly the beetroot special, sea bass and apple tart. All of the staff were friendly, attentive and polite, particularly our waiter Jordan.

What a unique pub, unexpectedly quaint and beautiful for being so close to the premier inn we booked, food was fantastic, setting lovely and staff made a very tired mum after a long drive. The kids felt so special, Jordan engaged them so well, he had them drawing an colouring for him which gave me and my sister in law a much needed rest bite and the kids felt so special. He couldn't have done enough for us and really finished off a wonderful holiday off so nicely for us, he's an asset! Thank you xx

Visited when staying over at Premier Inn. Decent "pub" food at a reasonable price and equally if not more importantly super attentive and friendly staff - (Fearne and her colleagues). Convenient when at the Premier Inn next door too! What's not to like? Would definitely use again when passing or staying over next door.

We have been to The Wheatstone Inn many times, as we have family in the are and it's a great spot for a family gathering. The food is always good and the service is very attentive. Special mention goes to Jordan, who looked after our party and put a smile on our faces with the energy of someone who loves their job.

Although I was told there was about a 45 min wait for food ( they were short of staff), it actually came in good time. I was very well looked after by Jordan, who was attentive without being fussy, calm under pressure - the pub was full - and absolutely charming. Decent pub grub at a very good price

My waitress was Keira - on her first night. The service was exceptional! Keira had a great first night!

Most of the food was really nice but the roast potatoes were soggy and chewey and the bacon was too well overdone.
