The Regal in Gloucester

Doorman thinks people are stupid, telling customers they can't sit outside with a tiny little dog, as Spoons don't have a licence for dogs lol. He most likely thought, they here with the RAF/Army rugby crowd they are not local, let's get rid. Actually we live in Gloucester and often see people sitting outside the regal with their dogs and this is way I rather spend my money in Cheltenham...

A typical Wetherspoon - good beer, great service and clever reuse of an old building . And unlike the White Hart in Winchcombe, there wasn’t a 10% service charge!

Easily the better of the two Spoons in Gloucester. We caught the specials. Two small freshly battered cod and chips and two Leffe Blondes came to £11.34. Fantastic value and really nice, too.

Jacket potatoes were more like the size of new potatoes and were dry. Not enough topping but shed loads of salad. I was served garden peas instead of mushy peas in error and the gravey that was supplied tasted of hoisin sauce??? Busted locksmon the toilet cubicles. Lots of uncleared/cleaned tables.

This spoons looks cool! But unfortunately the food was terrible and it's boiling hot!

Brilliant after match atmosphere, and drinks so much cheaper than The Abbey, where they charge an excess when Gloucester Rugby have played !!!!!

Good service and low priced food, gents toilets were poor condition, door locks broken and unusable, toilet rolls broken, floor flooded and danderious

I can only assume there is alot of snobbery regarding these places, foods great,staff are very helpful and friendly, don't know what the problem is?? Cheap too,,often visit..

This is typical Wetherspoons reasonably priced and worth the money, meals seem smaller but still just as good, this is set on Kingsquare in Gloucester, has plenty of seating inside and outside and smoking area, children friendly, this was the old cinema for gloucester, worth a visit.. We now come here a bit more. They do clear down alot quicker than Lord High Constable. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Did have issue with still frozen food then got taken back and came back still frozen. Kitchen Manager did ring and email to apologise and apparently has taken steps to ensure food safety. Sat here and watching waitress transfer sauces from one bottle to another which is against health and hygiene. To be honest it's disgusting. We also sat and watched while 8 meals sat under the warming lamps for 5 minutes and no excuses it's not that busy 16/04/2025. This is a really good wetherspoons but just little things like this not good. But do enjoy the deals and speaking to the friendly staff. Will still use. 18/04/2025. Nice to see a member of staff using initiative using trolley and lift to clear down. All tables wiped clean. And such a lovely friendly hardworking lady Carol. And she would be brilliant training the others apart from duty manager who also works well.

What an absolute joke of a place. Waited 40mins for our drinks bought via app. 23 year old son challenged for ID (driving licence stolen) sat with Mum and Dad. Took his drink away with no refund. Shall never enter this place again! Jobsworth does not cover it! BTW he does not look under 25!

I grew up in Gloucester so remember this when it was a cinema before so has items of display and history information linking to that time. As Wetherspoons go this has never been the best it's a bit tired looking now but cheap and there is plenty of seating in here out door seating too right at the back of the pub. As with all Wetherspoons can order from the app to your table but on this occasion my order wasn't correct. Also was no oat milk sachets available for my cup of tea.

Nice and easy to find since it's in the centre of Gloucester. The staff are friendly. My only complaints are that as a visually impaired person, from the first time I went in, it was dark and I have problems finding where the stairs to go down to the main floor are and as for the hand rail, it goes so far then disappears and there are wooden knobs every so often that I have to let go and then hold the rail again for couple of steps before letting go and then holding on.

Had a pint of Kronenbourg, with a side of beer line cleaner. Thanks for the upset stomach...

Don't Go Here. A small bird Flew in here And tried To go out the window but flew into the glass and Landed Then 2 Of the Chef's (men) Ran over to the bird and hit it over the head twice For no reason Whatsoever. Food also had dust in from them hitting the bird. Discusting. My 4 year old Was Watching all Of This And saying Hello Bird. there was several people Trying to Hold the windows open for the bird Aswell. these workers need to be stopped.

The large mixed grill was terrible half was hardly.warm also the meat was dry and chewy .sad experience

Went to watch the rugby. Very busy but plenty of staff so service was quick. Good selection of ales. Fish and chips was excellent.

Drunks everywhere at 3.45 pm. Not nice to see management are We are but did nothing

It's a 'Spoons. You get all that you expect, just in a really nice old cinema.

Good pub, banging tunes. Though the queues take too long, had to wait 20 mins

Always a good laugh for a night out in Gloucester. Great place to start a night with good value drinks and lots of offers before moving on in the night 😁😁

Long wait times for drinks and food, do they check sporting events and staff accordingly? From my experience the answer is no, poor management.

Great coffee buy one free refills however used to be 99p under Yr agoe that's hell of price hike .1 35 today Food ok no issues however 28 Feb 2025 Just eaten had sirloin steak ... and i can gaureentee my 8 onze steak would possibly 7 ONCE BEFORE COOKING 100% UNDERWIEGHT SHOULD ASKED INTIALLY WHEN PUT DOWN SADLEY DIDNT. partner had chicken tika ....witch was spicy compared normal

One of the most visited pubs in gloucester. Reasonably priced, definitely worth a visit!

Ridiculous that there are no eggs. Only vegetarian breakfast option was beans on toast.

Arranged to meet a couple of friends here for a few drinks and something to eat ,perused the menu chose what we would like then preseeded to the bar to place our order ,I asked for the Gammon and was told told they had ran out so went back to the table to find out what my husbands second choice was which was Ham egg and Chips ,unfortunately they had ran out of eggs ☹️there wasn’t any mixed grills either .Really disappointed as it was our first visit so won’t be returning .

Large pub with plenty of floor space and seating. Usual wetherspoon prices and good selection of beers, very busy Saturday afternoon, people wandering about looking for seating. Large screen TV backed up with smaller sets around the building. Don't assume you will be served in turn so it's up to you to make sure that the usual suspects don't push in front.

Another Wetherspoons I've previously been to many years ago, however did not review at the time. This is one of two branches in Gloucester. The Regal is a large branch of Wetherspoons situated in an old Cinema building, in King's Square, on the northern side of the City Centre. There is a reasonable sized garden area out the back of the pub. The bar area and coffee machines are on the left hand side of the pub, as you walk down the stairs at the front. On this occasion, I ordered a Vegetarian Breakfast, and a pint of Wolf Brewery 'Granny Wouldn't Like It' Ale - 4.8%. Total cost was £7.88. £4.99 for the breakfast, and £2.89 for the beer. The pint arrived within a minute of ordering, very quick! Food was a bit slower, arriving around 13 minutes after ordering. The food was well present and cooked upon arrival. Despite the recent price rises, still one of the cheapest places in Gloucester centre for food and drink.

Calm place and nice atmosphere!

Arguably the best spoons that has ever been - next level decor alongside such friendly service, staff and generally brilliant all round!

As one may assume, correctly, this place is absolutely trash for food, stay away from ANYTHING involving meat, as you will get food poisoning. At least I can say they're consistent. 6 years ago at here and good food poisoning, have avoid it until today, giving the benefit of the doubt and for convenience and BOOM food poisoning again.

Good spoons for Friday nights food is good for what you pay

Popped in for a drink before a rugby match, didn't eat, it's a Spoons, cheap and cheerful. Just don't stand down the stairs on the left, it's next to the kitchen and a busy route for staff.

Very disappointing cold conjealed egg and beans, whole breakfast was disgusting, complained to the young lady serving she said doesn't look very appetising. After many years of visiting we will not be returning which is a shame. Was not offered a refund or replacement breakfast, should have asked for the manager but time was against us.

Christmas shopping in Gloucester. Called in for a drink to finish day off.

Food awful couldn’t eat my meal, cold and over cooked. Oil probably haven’t been changed for long time. Never come again!!!!!

I've given 3stars because wetherspoons could do with an update,the place is looking alittle tired, the food is ok, nothing to rave about, maybe they could update the menu as well, but if your hank marvin, starving and you're not to fussy what you eat then this is for you..

Busy place with cheap but nice food.

When i come into Gloucester early in the morning I before catching the bus back come in for a breakfast and coffee the service and food have always been very good

Another good wetherspoons good food and a nice pint. It could however do with a bit of a facelift.

It's a large Wetherspoons. Offering the usual bar service and menu. Great prices and still love using the table service. The regal has a lovely back drop of the old cinema. They also offer a good vegan option.

Visted the Regal after my daughters Graduation with other families. The service at the bar was good as you'd expect from this chain. A good choice of ales which was nice and the prices out of this world. £20 for 6 drinks, some were double gins..wow. I know the beer is end of date stock but fair play. The toilets were clean too. Go and see for yourself.

Very nice as they all are clean loos nice staff , my only complaint is that you get the smell of cigarettes in the seated area from people going outside to smoke..

The only thing which let it down was ordering the drinks. I was waiting to be served when the young chap decided to serve two young women that came to the up to the bar when there were a few waiting.

Best wetherspoon's we've been to! Lovely staff, the accommodation is great and the pub has a lovely, old fashioned pub atmosphere

We visited here a few times when we stayed in Glouster. For the prices the food and drinks were good, service was good and the atmosphere was good it's a very busy spot. If I'm back this way I will drop back in pint of Carlsberg 2.54 pounds about €3 good deals on food and a pint

Always good cask beer, 4 stars because of the run down ambience and (usually) slow service.

On arrival, problem with card payment, therefore cash only. Bar staff indifferent and nonchalant about the obvious problem. Breakfast of 'Eggs Benedict' and tea was very good and served with a smile. Interior decor is what one expects from 'Weatherspoons' with slight rubbish under a sticky table. Always good to grab a reasonably priced breakfast at 'Weatherspoons'. Nice place to frequent.

You simply can't beat them another excellent breakfast at a decent price in nice surroundings and a good atmosphere

Came for a meal with friends. Meal was ordered wrong despite me confirming it with the bar staff (I ordered a vegan option for my husband but he noticed it had cheese on it, which was not labelled within the vegan option ie vegan cheese). He asked for it to be changed, we were forgotten about. 10 minutes later he asked again and it was dealt with in a kind, polite, fast and professional way. We all enjoyed our meals and drinks, and being a little older we headed off once the tables and chairs were moved to make way for a dance floor. Can't go wrong with Wetherspoons.

Called in today for a quick bite to eat. We come most weeks and are never disappointed. The food always arrives super quickly and it is always tasty and fresh. I love the small wraps they are good value and delicious. Thanks to all the staff, they do an excellent job.

Drinks are cheaper (a lot cheaper) than in most other pubs and so is the food. It's a large indoor area with a large clientele so it's usually 3/4 full and quite noisy. Staff are courteous and quick to serve. It does not have its own parking area but there is a multi storey car park about 200 metres away.

Ptices of food and drinks are brilliant.Service is ajso brilliant.

My Grandson enjoys going to the Regal for a cooked breakfast, we both enjoyed our breakfast staff were very friendly.

Very slow to get served but food arrived very quickly. Went to get a cup of tea & noticed that the washing up was all piled up at the hatch & there was broken glass on the floor.

Great food but today I have 2 glasses of Stella the glass need clean more lips stains from ladies all over the glass no drinking beer there from pint

Went there today and ordered a burger and a steak , the steak meal had no peas and the burger was small like a kids meal and a few chips like a hand full dident have much flavour , but service was quick

Very large pub. Quite a few steps down as you arrive. Wheelchair accessable by a lift to get you to ground level. Bar is at the left as you enter. Staff friendly and polite. Usual tap beers and a few real ales available. Descently decorated. Beer was good. Toilets on the ground floor level which is unusual for Wetherspoons. Enjoyed my visit.

For Wetherspoons, this is better than average. Food always decent, drinks good! Probably will need a facelift and new carpet in next few years.

Loved the atmosphere created by all the old movies. A multi-level pub. But lifts to all levels we really enjoyed sitting in the large beer garden with our drink. Will pay a visit next time we are in Gloucester

Pub was a former cinema the far end was glass making the room very light inside definitely one on the better buildings

One of my favorite wetherspoons around. The service is no different than any other spoons (with natural delays in busy periods), and the food is just as fine as in other locations. What makes it stand out though is the massive panorama of a city up above the tables, which I've not seen anywhere else.

Food ok, fast service. Toilets are horrendously disgusting. Both ladies and men. Revisited again 24/07 exactly the same. Shameful.
