Royal Oak in Gloucester

We are on holiday in the area and l had my husband find a Hungry Horse, because l love the mix it up that is on the Menu. We booked a table and arrived on time. My husband ordered at the bar and got the drinks. I ordered a chicken skewers a jacket potato and coleslaw, my husband ordered a rump steak. Mine arrived first and the first thing l noticed was that it wasn't sizzling. My husband's steak arrived. Although it was on a sizzling plate, the vegetables weren't cooked, and it was watery because they were frozen. I took some of the chicken off the skewer and put on the plate, the whole thing was horrible. The jacket had been microwave Ed, the coleslaw was full of lumps, not shredded. My husband wanted his steak medium, and it was rare. All in all it was an experience not to be repeated.

We came here as it was on our way back to our accommodation. Really wish we drove on by. The staff were friendly but the floor was filthy, that should have been a red flag but we still stayed. Food came out cold and was not tasty at all. Really disappointed as we have had some great food at hungry horse places. Will avoid in future

Popped in with hubby for a ladt minute bite to eat. Has been good in the past, but this time I wasn't happy, as the food wasn't hot, and veg quite hard.

Came here with my children for dinner. The pub was busy but the atmosphere was fantastic, people laughing, talking and watching football. The food was lovely, hot and tasty. Even my son who has autism and can be fussy enjoyed it. The staff were friendly, especially the new manager Kelly and Kim who both made us feel welcome and were helpful. I will definitely be back and recommending to friends.

Brought my family here as I had came alone before, the mains was really good but pudding was sent back as was cold, pints was flat and some in dirty glasses but the staff didn’t seem to care, the place looks like it has gone down hill since I was last here, mainly dirty, I hope the manager can improve

went for a few drinks, wasn’t as good as we previously went, the glasses was dirty and misty and when asked the bar member said rudely‘it’s our glasses we can’t help it’ just wasn’t as good as our first time

Was early for the meal they even squeeze us in as kids were hungry good place go again

Dropped in here to meet a colleague and have lunch while travelling for business. Chris and Kelly were great and helpful without being bothersome.

Chris Megan and Lau were very welcoming and made a good atmosphere even better. They made sure our table was safe, by putting a reserve sign on our table, when we said we were popping outside. They told us about the offers of the day and helped us choose a drink and made us laugh. All in all, very nice, friendly oub 😀

I visited the Royal Oak today for some Lunch and a drink and it was fabulous. It was such a great experience I felt I needed to send a review. When I arrived I was greeted by two ladies Megan and the manager called Kelly and both were smiling and ready to take my order. I had an epic £5 meal of Scampi n chips n mushy peas and it arrived about 15 minutes later and it was a lovely meal and a good portion size and incredible value. The waiter was very friendly and came back after 5 minutes to check if my meal was ok and I said yes and the Gentleman smiled and said your welcome. Highly recommend this place for the customer service and incredible value for money food

This is our local pub and usually it never fails to disappoint but unfortunately for lunch we had a cold stoggy meal...my partner left most of his. And mine was cold...we told the staff not there fault but as usual in this country we don't really care about food it's about the money...I hope the pub improves as we have had some lovely meals here

Great food and awesome service. Was so pleased to see Lau here , was gutted when the seven springs closed. The service from Lau there was one of the main reasons we went there time and time again. So when we popped in on an impromptu visit as we passed and saw him was very pleased , as knew the service would be awesome as he takes pride in everything he does and that goes on around him. Legend! Will be back just as he's there Food was great , beer was great , happy days!! Woman at the bar was lovely too, very smiley and happy. Cheers for bringing my hay to me as I left it Lau!!

We visited mid-week, in the evening. Food was good and very good value, with generous portions. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The atmosphere was welcoming, though we found the music a little loud for dining. Overall, a good night out.

Came in on Monday for a drink, the service from Kelly was amazing. With a large festive table in she coped extremely well on her own whilst serving the large table still remaining attentive with other customers. Always service with a smile! Best manager!

Great place. Standard pub but nothing bad to say

Myself and my friends go out once a month and pick a different place to go each time. We came to the Royal Oak on Friday 29th nov and was immediately greeted by 2 members of staff as we walked through to the bar. A tall man with dark hair and Kim on the bar. She spoke to us like old friends which made us feel very welcomed. She couldn’t do enough for us and always served with a smile! We will absolutely be back for our monthly get together again, would 100% recommend going!

Popped in for a drink on my day off, the new manager is great. Very happy and helpful. Highly recommend this place for a chilled beer or three!!

Food was fairly slow, lackluster. But edible. Found the server to be a little rude with his sighing and tutting when asked for more gravy and a bowl. He came back with a ramekin not a bowl. Wasn't worth arguing. I just won't go back.

Staff are very poor with customers and feed back from the kitchen is so slow and staff are clueless

Went to this pub for a bit of food realised there was a singer on who by the way was amazing with everyone, bar staff were great and welcoming me and family loved it and definitely be going back seen a review about not putting rugby on which is rubbish why would u when a singer is on ridiculous point to make again great pub great singer highly recommended x

went last night for a few pre drinks, was a great atmosphere they had a live singer (i got involved too) all staff were dressed up and really made an effort, customer service was spot on i was served by a girl called trinity, she was very polite. drinks are cheep too

Came in for a few beers, football and rugby both shown on tv with sound. Atmosphere was good. Staff were excellent and very attentive. Highly recommend a visit!!

Ask them to put the rugby on but instead it's championship football and a naff singer. You'd think this was Gloucestershire a rugby county but no. Sticky tables and minging toilets with prices you might as well pay in town with some sport options

Great atmosphere in the bar tonight. I think it was the pubs darts team playing. Food was great and the service was spot on. The manager was very accommodating and made sure everything was all good. Thanks guys 🙂

customers are not getting the full service atmosphere has sadly deteriated on last few months. Some staff complacent and bringing pub down. Customers were the heart of Hucclecote. Needs complete overhaul. To stay competitive and stay in the game.

They let me stay in the carpark overnight with my campervan for a few drinks and a meal. Lovely food. Good selection of beers, good atmosphere for a Monday night.

Great place, been going for years but I have to say the men's toilets smell. Sorry to say that, the way I look at it if the toilets are bad what's the kitchen going to be like and if the kitchen is spotless so should the toilets be. This won't stop me going but I need to raise it . Mr P Figliola

7.99 each for breakfast paid extra for toast, I have given 4 stars as the beans were not hot enough, you get 6 mushrooms which were small and shrivelled. 3 breakfasts added extras were 3 toast, 2 eggs and a sausage on others plates non refill tea, latte and coke £40! Other hungry horse establishments food is far better The girl who served us with red hair is wasted there, her customer service is outstanding. I’ve been coming to Royal Oak for many years now and at times it’s been less than good! Come to meet friends for dinner and it was amazing! The food was hot and cooked very well, the staff were lovely and we waited a more than reasonable amount of time for our food. Will definitely be back! 🌟

The service that me and my partner received was next to nill. It was the worst experience I've ever had in hospitality I'm a very reputable chef and have just finished catering for Boeing at the Farnborough air show then York races I decided to visit your venue as I'd worked an 100 hour week and thought it would be nice for someone else to cook for me for a change. Me personally as a chef would pull the menu item rather than replace an item that isn't and like for like match on the menu and inform front of house and remove said item from the till I'm sure you'll be aware of Natasha law and menu substitutes and they need to be adhered to by law. Such shady practice can't be let to continue within the industry The bathroom facilities were abysmal to say the least.

Not really like it used to be. But everything has to change with the times say that paying £4.80 for a lager is not for me 🤷🏻‍♂️

Had a fantastic experience whilst out for a small family dinner. Was greeted and served by Kim who was bubbly and friendly throughout and made it seem like no requests were too much as my children changed their minds and wanted straws. Despite the venue being busy we didn't appear to wait too long for our food to arrive and they ensured the childrens food was brought out before the adults food. All meals were good quality and very enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this place for service, food and value for money
