great food and great beer I've not visited for a while as have not been in the area. (last time I was my daughters god mother worked here) I was pleasantly surprised on how well the place is run now. All the staff are nice and the food was just as good. The ale on tap was very good, Its hard to find a good ale these days Will be back again soon

Great place offering a mixture of everything including a Carvery on a Sunday. Very Nice guy Henry checked everything was ok, asked if he could do anything else to help us enjoy our meal and interacted very well with my little one to which she said to me in the car afterwards are we seeing Henry tomorrow. Food was nice, mrs had a chicken kebab and I had loaded fries. Both very nice. Happy to go back again.

I visited here for a meeting with a disabled group. I was a bit dubious going as I had been there a year or so previously and it was awful so I had vowed never to go again but didn't have much choice as that is where the meeting was. I had heard that it was under new management so hoped it would be better. I was very pleased to find that it is much improved since my previous visit. It was clean and tidy, the staff were helpful and the food was great. I will certainly visit again.

Pre booked for 11 of us. First time in good few years family been all together. The staff were absolutely lovely, the food was absolutely lovely and as a family had a fantastic experience. Will most definitely return. Thank you so much High Orchard.xx

Paid for parking, redeemed my ticket over the bar, so I believed all was good. I have been chased by the parking company and now solicitors for a parking fee that I don’t owe (£170) for over 12 months, even though the management of the pub have told me that they have cancelled the fine as I did nothing wrong. So stressful having Gladstone solicitors ( they are an ethical company !!!) chasing me and threatening further action, even though I have sent them proof that the pub said they have cancelled the fine. What a nightmare situation and all because I meet two work colleagues for one drink. Steer clear.

Had jacket potatoes with beans and cheese didn’t taste the best order at the bar what the girl was lovely and plenty of seats just wouldn’t recommend the jacket potato

We had Sausage and mash with peas, sauteed onions and gravy...took over 35 minutes to arrive, plate was red hot, so was the small egg cup size gravy jug, my friend burnt her hand on it, had to use napkins, ...you could tell had been kept in oven, peas were dried and shriveled, sausages were hard and dried out, no onions at all, enough gravy to cover 1 sausage, had to use 4 of the virtually empty bottles of brown sauce instead...and expensive for what you get... sorry won't be back

Good for a quick meal, excellent value for money.

I recently visited the High Orchard pub after new owner and I must say, it has undergone a complete transformation. From the top-notch quality of the food to the warm and welcoming service, this pub has truly been revamped. The staff greets you with a wide smile, making you feel right at home. In my opinion, it's probably the best pub in the area now. Congratulations! Visiting you is always a great choice. ❤️

We stayed the night in our motorhome at the back of the pub and had a really peaceful nights sleep. The pub food was excellent, tasty and hot and all the staff were friendly and helpful. It was quite quiet the evening that we were there, but it was midweek but guess it gets really busy at weekends and they8 have lots of things going on at different times of the week. Well worth a visit.

My mum and I called this evening . We come from Hereford and come to Gloucester every week to visit a friend in hospital . Have noticed this pub and it always looks busy so we thought we would give it a try . First impressions, very clean , airy , spacious and was soon welcomed . Ordered drinks and went to a table . Went up to order food and Henry behind the bar was the most friendly and chatty . He came and checked that all was ok with our food and once again when we had finished . I have to say that Henry’s friendliness is and service is such a rarity these days . To have someone appreciate your custom and to go above and beyond really makes you realise what we are missing in most other establishments . We are coming back for a Sunday carvery , may even make this our regular go to every week and may even give quiz night Thursdays a go . Well done Henry and thank you 🙏

We messaged to see if we could stay over in our camper van as saw it recommended on a site and the staff straightaway text to say yes, we booked a table for food and drinks and asked to be located near a tv so we could watch the football . The staff and landlord were amazing and gave us a great spot . The food was delicious and the atmosphere friendly and buzzing ! We will definitely return before the end of summer , best night we’ve had n a long time !

Food was standard. Was a very busy day and the staff were very rushed. Atmosphere very loud with screaming kids. Had a drink spilt on me but they were very apologetic so no worries. Probably wouldn't come back.

a lot of staff but you have to order at the bar. The meat was tough and oversalted. The pub has great potential, but if they don't start doing something differently, they won't be around for much longer.

Had a family carvery/a la carte for 14 people. Food was excellent, staff friendly and helpful and a very supportive manager.

The "restaurant" at our hotel was closing at 5pm for some unexplained reason so we wandered over the bridge and found this place, and I am so glad we did. The staff were so welcoming as soon as we walked in and could not do enough for us. We opted for the carvery and it was just so lovely from start to finish. All the staff were so nice to us, the lady with the long red hair who seated was so polite and cheerful. I do want to make a special mention of the gentleman who was on the carvery, what a lovely man he was. He made it all feel so personal, he seemed to really care about the meat he was serving and the customers getting the very best service. He told us about all the veg etc and made it feel like having dinner at your uncles house. The veg was all fresh not frozen and very tasty and the meat was cooked to perfection. If we are ever in the area again this will be high on our list to visit again. As our hotel was not brilliant this helped to make our stay a little more palatable. Thank you to all the staff.

Booking a table online was easy. Choice of tables. Service was very quick which was great as we had a concert to get to. All staff were very helpful and friendly. Good range of items on the menu and very reasonable prices. Food was good - particularly the steaks.

Staff were brilliant really considerate to my Dad seating us near a door due to poor mobility Food was way better than expected based on preblvious visit a few years ago. We'll be back!

Recently went for a meal here and whilst the overall service was good, I did have to go to the bar to get garlic dip for my starter breaded mushrooms and to get some English mustard, Now this happened when going to the bar to order our deserts a gentleman behind me introduced himself as the landlord, and told the member of staff that our final round of drinks and deserts were to be paid by him, as he was aghast that I had had had to go go to the bar to chase up our encouragements etc we spoke briefly what a really nice guy, restored my faith in the level of service offered in any company, this may or not be a family business, but it genuinely did feel like one, I would genuinely and sincerely recommend to anyone and everyone I know. Expensive wine !!!! Forgot To order peppercorn sauce and the waitress says not to worry and she will give it to us, then 1 came out when we needed 2. Another 1 came out then another waitress came out and tried to charge us. Being so quiet on a Friday evening I understand why now

Under new management… Visited this pub today (27/4/24) and it is absolutely fantastic, great location, the friendliest staff and amazing food! The pub is so warm and welcoming with a great atmosphere and the staff literally can not do enough for you, We are coming back on Friday (3/5/24) for the first live music event so really looking forward to that! This place really does deserve my 5 star rating… well done to all at The High orchard!

Easy to book a table (though it wasn't very busy) Prompt service and food arrived quickly as described on the menu. Plates were hot (good point) and food was cooked properly which we both enjoyed.

When we arrived we were told there would be a wait on food - which is fine. However, We waited an hour and 15 minutes for a plate of bbq pulled pork nachos to come out, to find out the girl behind the till entered it in wrong - even though I doubled checked the order with her! We were then told we had to wait an extra 30 mins whilst another table ( who arrived after us) had to have their mains before we could get ours. Considering there was a promotion on, you would think the restaurant would put more staff on and more chefs OR limit the amount of bookings! There were so many empty tables and yet my booking ( a table of 3 ) would’ve taken nearly 2 and hour hours for a plate of nachos and 3 pub classic mains. The pub did tell us they had large tables to cater for but this should not stop other tables from being served in a timely manner. We ended up leaving without our main meals. Ridiculous way to run a restaurant. Lots of unhappy customers last night. Will not be returning which is a shame as the food is actually really nice.

If I could give zero stars I would. We booked a table for 3 on a Saturday evening. Upon arrival we were shown to our table and were told that as they had just taken orders for two large groups, there may be a short delay in our food being served. This is despite les than half the tables in our area being used. Anyway, more than an hour after our order had been placed, we asked when our stater would be coming. Once again the excuse of the large groups was given but should be in the next 5-10 minutes. Fifteen minutes later our starter arrived .... and was wrong so it went back to the kitchen, only for the manager to query that they had delivered what was ordered. A discussion ensued which determined the person entering the orders on the system had got it wrong. (This also happened the table next to us). Our starter (as ordered) arrived and was in fact very nice. About 10 minutes after the starter plate was cleared, we asked when our mains would be coming ... and this is what we were told - because we had a starter, our mains had been put to the back of the queue and other tables mains are being done before ours and there would be a wait of 20- 30 minutes at least. At this point (nearly 1 3/4 hours) we gave up; got a refund for our food order and left .... never to return again 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 If a restaurant cannot handle a relatively quiet Saturday evening, with their restaurant about 1/3 full, why take a booking?

Popped in to the high orchard on off chance as are local pub didn't have a mixed grill. So we tried here and WOW what a mixed grill amazing food my daughter had the Tikka masala curry was beautiful 3 empty plates and no room for desert.. we will definitely be back. Lady behind the bar was so welcoming and friendly camw to are table a few times check everything was ok had a great laugh and joke with her. You will see us again soon

Useful spot to meet family for lunch, adults and kids. A Marston's pub, car parking, close to the docks area, Sunday market, shopping centre. Sunday carvery very reasonable, kids menu etc.

Fantastic meal at the high orchard today. We were celebrating a birthday and the team were so helpful. The service we received was so warming and accommodating and really helped us to celebrate our friends birthday.

Had a meal with family for my 60th birthday absolutely fantastic food and service

We travelled ten miles to come have food and watch the football as advertised and the guy behind the bar says you have no sport channels. Not overly impressed as we ordered food and missed half the game before going to another establishment that shows the football.

Wow, what a friendly and professional team!! From the moment we walked in, we had a great time. Fun and banter, with the staff. My food was that good, I had to let my girlfriend have a bite!! They even happily served us a lovely hot dessert, even though we'd left it far too late. Nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be back, very soon!!

2nd visit inside a month .. this time for Sunday Lunch .. Didn’t start too well .. had carvery and had to wait for several items .. thought the meat portion was small and gravy was not thick .. some items weren’t hot enough either .. The food itself was nice though. Think 🤔 it has new management.. So hopefully will get better overall as it’s a nice place. 😀😀

Has a really nice feel about it & the service was excellent! Last time I visited it didn’t flow as well & was a bit messy! The staff all seemed to gel & actually they interact with customers well, which is lovely to see, so the atmosphere was great! Definitely recommend to anyone wanting a Friendly feel & great food!

I was disappointed. No greet upon arrival, not shown to table, was told it was at the top of the restaurant with a reserved sign on it. No steaks on the menu, nachos served nothing like to photo, gammon over cooked, general cooking quality was poor.

Fine, big pub. Good for large parties. Food seemed to be pre made microwave oven grub. Taste nice enough and does what it says on the tin so to speak.

Food portions were small, food took 45 mins from ordering to come out and food wasnt that hot, meat should be piping hot. Wont return.

Not a very good experience atall. Despite the restaurant looking quiet we found ourselves waiting over an hour for our food to arrive, the food was bland, the steak had no taste to it atall (I've had better Steaks from a supermarket), the children's food was overcooked and solid. This lead to us not eating most of our meal after having spent a substantial amount of money. The young girl (slender with dark hair) that served us was lovely and cant fault her on that. However some staff seemed to not be doing much, or having conversations (gossiping) behind the bar regarding other staff members. This trip here was a dissapointment, what a shame. Hopefully its not like this all the time, or some improvements get made - till then, I wouldnt reccomend it to anyone.

Great pub and dog friendly and had to sit on non carpeted area which is fine but what wasn’t fine. Staff plonked themselves on a table next to me, eating their own food and generally just being messy! Provide a staff room and just try and be more professional!

Had a family meal here today at 1pm to celebrate and remember my little brothers birthday. Absolutely shocking half of our table who didn't order the carvery we’re still waiting for their food at 2.35pm. No one advised us of a problem in the kitchen but we were told they were a chef down. Will not be returning ever again.

High Orchard? You would have to be high to go here. I cannot stress how pitifully terrible this establishment is on all fronts. It took two hours to not receive our food, no one came to apologise or explain where it was, multiple visits to the bar to ask where it was, we were told 5 minutes which turned to a further 20 without any sign of food or anyone to explain where it was. We had to cancel our order and leave. The excuse was that they were down a chef but the pub had maybe 20 people in the whole time we were there and most of them were complaining of no food and the ones that weren’t had the carvery. The only positive is that the manager did refund our money and discount on those that had chosen carvery. We were there to honour a recently passed relatives birthday and instead we were left disappointed and angry at the lack of food or service we received

Went there tonight to celebrate our engagement with both of our families to have a meal. Everyone was amazing and so welcoming. Thank you to the staff who made us feel welcome and the food was delicious! Definitely recommend!!!

Fantastically helpful and charming staff and good pots of tea and tucker whilst getting my car MOTed at garage near there..Even charged my phone. Quality pool table with decent lights and a very comfortable sofa to read my Kindle on. It was so good I have been back a few times with extra work done at garage. I had a good time! I will see them again next year! : ))

I visited for an evening meal with my daughter for a treat , on asking to see the menu I was told there was no chicken available, which was not good as my daughter mainly eats chicken, I ordered the mixed grill which took 45 minutes to arrive, when it did arrive the food was all burnt & over cooked ! Absolutely disgusting food which I tried to eat some of it as I was hungry but after a few mouthfuls I gave up, clearly no proper chef's work work here & I left the food , which I a shame as I used to visit pretty often but the place has gone down hill badly

Despite there being few customers in the pub when we arrived at 13:20, it took around 1 hour 15 minute to serve our order. We chased it up twice and were also told 15 minutes before it came out that the ‘last chicken pie’ we ordered had been dropped so would we have steak pie instead. My usband agreed as we were all so hungry by then and did not want to wait any longer. The plates of food we were eventually served with were very poor. A handful of greasy chips, pies that had been heated up badly so they were pale and hard at the edges and frozen peas that had been microwaved until they were starting to shrivel. The gravy came out of the jug in fatty globules. We ate some as we were very hungry but two of us left most of the food. I would have been so embarrassed to serve this up, especially after such a long time. This was supposed to be a birthday meal for my dad who had lost my mum recently so I didn’t want to make too much fuss but did tell the server how disappointed we were with the whole experience. She just said sorry - meaningless. I shall never eat here again and will be telling everyone I know to avoid it. (During the time we waited, we heard several other customers asking how much longer their food would be as they had been waiting an hour plus).

The pub was really dirty, the service was awful and I found a hair in my food. I overheard a conversation from the bartenders saying that she didn’t have a shower that day and she tried to rip me off. Absolutely awful not good enough what so ever.

Had mixgrill steak was very tough told staff member was told me the steaks with mixgrill are not very good had to leave on plate 😞

Reserved table in dog friendly bar area. Arrived at 1.25pm to find no table reserved. Waited few minutes and one was organised. Ordered drinks and meals. 35 mins later asked barman if we had been forgotten. Assured we had not and only a couple of tickets were before us. Only saw two embers of staff the whole time in the pub which was not particularly busy, fortunately I was in good company and we chatted and realised another 25 mins had passed by. The barman then apologised and said someone in the kitchen had dropped the chicken pie(part of our order) and they had no more so would we order something different. The member of our party agreed. 15 mins later ( a total of one hour fifteen minutes) the food arrived and what can I say?! The pie crusts were hard and the peas were micro-waved into what I imagine little cardboard cut-outs of peas would taste like. After two or three mouthfuls of the pie contents, cheese potato and leak, my mouth felt as if it had been lined with grease. At least, the chips were half respectable! I do not blame the bar staff (evidently understaffed) but I do blame the management. The Manager and anyone else charged with the management of this pub should be immediately discharged and replaced by people who take a pride in serving the public. I do not enjoy submitting a-post such as this but this whole establishment needs a good shaking up. We were not the only people complaining on this Wednesday lunchtime

Generally a good service, reasonable cost and not too long between ordering and food delivery.

We booked a table for the carvery atleast 2 weeks in advance for 12 of us to eat as we done my baby gender reveal. No carvery left as we turned up even though there was no clarification that if it ran out we couldn’t have it. Ordered starters which came, then a hour and a half later someone said the food was getting dished up, ten minutes went by then someone else came and said the foods just starting to be cooked!! We had 2 young children who were hungry and upset when there food had not arrived. We decided to leave as the service was shocking. Not even an apology when we went to pay for the starters. The staff came across rude and we certainly will never return. We arrived at 4:30 and we left at 6:45 when the mains had still not been cooked yet. Totally disgraceful
