Cotswold towns are not short of charming, historic pubs but the Porch House has a particular claim. It’s said to be the oldest pub in England, dating back to 975AD. This is no idle claim as its timbers have been carbon dated to approximately 1000 AD and it still has witch marks above the 16th century fireplace. Many original features have been retained - low ceilings and heavy wooden beams, crooked staircases, and small, cosy, rustic nooks. If you want character, then this is the place. You can walk in for a drink but if you want to eat, you’ll have to book ahead. We couldn’t get a table the first night we tried but we were able to book for a few nights later. The menu is seasonal and they try to introduce local produce. Overall the food was good - not memorable, but still good. The meals were hearty and traditional but much better than standard pub grub. We enjoyed the beef dish and pie although the mussels entree was disappointing as the mussels were quite small and were not plump and juicy. Overall a nice dinner in a very atmospheric, historic spot.

Very dissatisfied, ordered 3 meals, waited 25mins for what was essentially just a burger as the rest was readily available. No apologies offered rven though it seemed the staff were aware. Finally sit to eat, and what a disappointment. Thin fish that was greasy and smelt like beef dripping.. how?! The chips were very dry and not enjoyable. The burger that was waited on was also dry. Considering the price that is charged is above the average you would expect something good but that's not the case. This was in the evening as well and not as busy as I have seen it, so pretty sure that's not the cause.

You know how you check out a website and it looks great so you plan to stop there for lunch after a 100 mile drive? That's what we did at the Royal Oak, Andoversford. The website boasted "Step inside for proper pub food, an ale or gin to suit every palate and a warm, welcoming atmosphere for both locals and visitors alike." There had been good reviews for the food. Arriving at 1.15pm on a Friday, the car park was almost empty, which was weird. Then we stepped inside the low-ceilinged main room and there were just five blokes sitting at the bar chatting. Tomato ketchup and other condiments were on every table so my husband ordered a couple of drinks and asked for the menu. The woman behind the bar said "Sorry we're not serving any food until 6 o'clock." Very disappointing and annoying there was nothing on offer even though the tables looked ready. We drank our drinks and left. Fortunately the Frogmill hotel wasn't far away and we had an excellent lunch there. The website still states "Friday: drinks 12-11pm, food 12-2.45pm & 6-9pm" but it's probably wise to phone and check if you're planning to visit. Personally, I'm not bothering.

Lovely place but the food was dreadful. Couldn’t even bring myself to finish. Has this place even heard of butter. That was £25 down the drain. Only ordered 2 breakfast items, a tea and a coffee. Sorry guys but I definitely won’t be returning.

I don’t usually leave reviews for places I’ve visited, however I felt the need to leave one. I visited coffee#1 on Thursday and was served by a young brunette girl , she was so lovely and so polite and welcoming. My cappuccino was so good , probably the best I’ve had in a while!! Deserves an award for her great customer service Will be coming back often!!

This is the first time we have been to the coach and horses and we were not disappointed! Although they were very busy we looked after very well. My daughter is very fussy but the staff had no difficulty to accommodate her needs. There was a bit of wait for the food but it was well worth it! The beef was cooked beautifully and came with lots of vegetables and cauliflower cheese! Will recommend to all our friends and we will be back soon! Thanks to all.

Terrible service. Just a bunch of teenagers with no training AT All! Gin And tonic … no lemon… shrug of shoulders when requested. Overpriced, over cooked , not fresh and really shocking attitude for a time of year when they should be encouraging the scarce amount of customers in Bourton

Ordered a bacon cheese hamburger. The burger seemed small for a 6 ounce burger but there was NO bacon or cheese. After a long wait for the food and a guided tour to rejoin I did not get want to send it back so advised the server but ate the mediocre burger as delivered. Good chips. Wife ordered a salad and vegetables but not impressed

This was a very underwhelming visit to the Slaughters Country Inn this time. This isn’t a cheap hotel and we expected more in the way of cleanliness, security and food quality and standard for the money paid. Firstly I had to wash the bathroom floor with wet wipes when we arrived it was covered in dust and other peoples hair and didn’t look like it had been cleaned in a few wks. We found a few wood lice in our room during the stay. The dust at the spine of our room door on the carpet was thick and needed the nozzle of the hoover. The corridors leading to the rooms were needing hoovered and the red chandelier at reception hadn’t been dusted in months. When we came back after a day out on the Tuesday our room had been left unlocked by the house keeping staff, just as I discovered it a member of house keeping came Along and I reported it, he said he would report it to his manager, however, no one came near us the rest of the night or the next morning before we left to check nothing had been taken, which luckily had not. We also ate in the restaurant the first night, the food was not well cooked and over priced. My fish only half filled the batter it was inside, fresh air in the other half of the batter, my husbands chicken was dry and we hated the service charge being added onto the bill automatically. We didn’t complain as the Scottish guy serving us was very friendly, cheery and helpful. We’ve visited the Slaughters Country Inn about 6 or 7 times now and absolutely adore the village setting and the gardens which I have to say haven’t looked better but we have decided to try an air b&b in the beautiful village of lower slaughter next time and go to the inn for a drink and make use of there gardens that way rather than staying or eating there again. Sorry Slaughters you let yourself down badly this visit.
