Service was terrible, as if the staff hadn’t been trained - ordered 3 egg mayonnaise baguettes and when they arrived there wasn’t enough egg mayonnaise between them to fill a single sandwich. When we told our waiter they said ‘what should I tell the chef’ as if there wasn’t an issue, and then said ‘well we have had 100 people, it’s hard to cope’. A very large hotel/pub in the Cotswolds on a Saturday should be prepared for - would not recommend, even if the setting is beautiful.

We dodged out of the rain to have lunch here while we were walkting through Lower Slaughter. We had a fairly simple lunch...salads and beer...and the food was very good. I suspect this place is jammed in peak season. We trid to make a dinner reservation - admittedly on a Saturday night - and they were full.

Very disappointed with the visit to The Slaughters Country Inn yesterday 26th August. It was a bank holiday granted but the service was poor and the staff did not seem to know which way to turn next. It was chaos around the bar area and people were booked in but tables were not available or people had made reservations and there was no record of the reservation. This is my second visit and probably the last.

This was a first time visit as we wanted to go somewhere special to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary which we notified the restaurant in advance of and was on their booking confirmation. We arrived promptly and were taken to our seats - which were dirty. There a good choice of wines with small/medium/large options which arrived at our table without delay. We chose the bread inc hummus and olives as nibbles. A very generous portion of hummus arrived with a stingy 2 pieces of bread and the olives were disappointing and past their best. Our main courses arrived before any of our starter plates had been taken away which was awkward. For main courses I ordered the cod, crab fish cake, bak Choi and jungle curry sauce priced at £29. My wife ordered the chicken Caesar salad. The food was ok but somewhat underwhelming and over-priced although good choice of menu options. We planned to stay for desserts but at £10 and based on what preceded we decided to just get the bill. Our waitress was totally overstretched covering 10 tables and she really did her best but there was clearly a lack of staffing. As I say, no mention of our special day at all on the day and wouldn’t rush back other than for a drink or pizza from the snack van.

Staying nearby in Bourton on Water, cycled to Slaughters, popped in for a coffee. Go to bar ask for coffee, the older gentleman serving was arrogant, left us standing, no explanation of take a seat and we'll bring over, very poor customer service. Other tables near us said, expect to be waiting g a long while for your order, and we did.

We went there for lunch. The surroundings are really beautiful and authentic, the service was good, but the food was another story. We ordered 2 baguettes with salmon and crème cheese with 2 cokes for at price of £31.50 - what we got was 2 boring baguettes (not heated/toasted) with margarine, salmon and a bit of pickled red onion with crisps on the side. Definitely not what we had expected at such a place and at that price.

We stopped at this inn during a walk . Bar staff lovely. Cider good . We decided to have lunch (the menus choice was poor) we decided to have a meat and cheese sharing platter for £29 (!!). It wax unbelievable woeful. Sliced white bread - not fresh. 1/4 of an average pork pie. Packet sliced ham 2 small thin slices. 2 slices Cheap salami 4 bits of Cheap (tasteless)Red Leicester cheese (no other choice) tomato chutney and a gerkin sliced into 2. It was my husbands birthday so I didn’t make a fuss but really there is no excuse. It’s embarrassing to think that visiting tourists are being served this!

Over 25 minutes and twice asking at the bar where our waiter was, we finally got given a menu. Service was fairly quick after that, but unfortunately the burgers were undercooked and still bloody in the middle. I would try some where else, if you are thinking of going here.

Obviously understaffed. Restaurant staff seemed unprepared although we had previously booked. The whole experience felt uncomfortable. We chose fish and chips, the meal was served very quickly so obviously not freshly cooked. The fish was wet with soggy patter, peas floating in liquid. Overall the ruination of our last evening in the beautiful Cotswolds. Very disappointing.

From the moment we arrived at Lower Slaughter Country Inn we knew we wouldn't be disappointed. Having visited nearly 10 years ago my wife and I had very fond memories of this beautiful place and coming back to visit was equally as special. Retuning for my wife's 40th birthday treat, we had booked online for an afternoon tea. Once inside we were quickly swayed by the glorious displays of Sunday Roast dinner. Upon asking if it would be okay to cancel our planned tea, we were happily told that this wouldn't be a problem and were given the option to choose either. All staff were highly attentive and we were regularly checked upon. Nothing was too much trouble. A short visit but a memorable one. Thank you.

We booked ahead for a cream tea. When booking we explained we would like to eat outside and were told this would not be a problem. When we arrived, we were told that due to there only being 2 members of staff working that we had to eat inside. The room was incredibly stuffy with low ceilings and lacked any ambience. The staff were unfriendly and offered no apology so we decided not to stay. We were considering staying in the future but there are much nicer hotels in the area that offer great service so won’t consider it.

As locals we love to walk with the children round the slaughters but don’t often visit here. We came for my husbands birthday and enjoyed our food and service. Like many they are clearly having a number of labour issues and were not offering a service in all parts of the inn which was a shame as we would have liked to eaten outside. The main reason for the 3 is the children’s menu. This restaurant seems to pride itself in a children’s menu which has been well thought through however it is just too expensive. It cost us £18.50 per child to provide a three course meal which when you consider the food was no different in standard to any average pubs children’s menu but also that our children are 2 and 5 you can understand. £9.50 for a main course of tomato pasta for a 2 year old!! It’s too much!! And £6 for two scoops of ice cream with mini marshmallows on!! The adult menu was reasonable priced but due to the cost of the children’s menu we wouldn’t be visiting here again which is a shame as it’s an awesome setting.

Beautiful spot in a very picturesque village. Staff were helpful and recommended a great local walk to Upper Slaughter and back which our puppy very much enjoyed. The terrace looked the best place to sit but we were immediately warned by staff that it was a little overrun by wasps- they are a really problem in the Cotswolds this summer. So we sat inside to eat. Pub meals done well, very generous portions and well presented. Service was quick and attentive. Would recommend lunch here for anyone visiting Lower Slaughter.

Whenever we go to the Cotswolds I take my Mother to have lunch on the terrace at the Lower Slaughter Inn. This is one of the highlights of her trip. When we arrived there a week ago, we took a table on the terrace as usual but were immediately informed by one of the waiters that for the time being they were only serving food to residents of the hotel, although we were welcome to sit and have a drink. This we did. However, within minutes, two groups of people arrived and occupied two more tables. Both groups were day trippers and not residents of the hotel. One group started to order food. When the other group tried to do so, they were told, as we were, that only residents were being served food. They then pointed to the other table and said that they had arrived together and that neither group were residents, so if the one table could order food, the other should be allowed to do so. The waiter then said that it would be alright for them to order sandwiches, and he proceeded to hand out menus. This was the same waiter who had told us that as we were not residents we could not have food. This was all going on in front of my Mother who was by now extremely upset that we had been treated differently and in such a shabby way. I offered to pursue the matter with the waiter but she was by now too upset and just wanted to leave. An experience that she had been looking forward to, and had always enjoyed on previous occasions, had been ruined by the unfair treatment we had received.

I visited the slower Slaughter Country Inn on Thursday 29th July after having bought a gift voucher for my 84 year old grandfather to have afternoon tea. When we got there a lady greeted us and informed us that the system was down meaning we couldn't have our afternoon tea as they wouldn't be able to take a payment. They had tried to phone us about 40 minutes before our reservation however we live about an hour away so were already driving meaning we didn't see the call. After I pointed out that I had already paid because I had the gift voucher she went to ask if they could still do afternoon tea for us, they agreed to this. We were taken to a seat inside a quite dark room, we asked if we could sit outside because it was a beautiful day and we were told that because we had used a gift voucher to pay we wouldn't be able to sit outside (I think because they didn't want other people to see that they were serving). This was disappointing, especially as about 30 minutes later another couple came in for afternoon tea and were allowed to sit outside to have it?! The food sandwiches were okay, the scones were lovely and other cakes were average at best, looked more like cakes from a childrens party with hundreds and thousands on the top. This was really disappointing as this had been a birthday present for my grandad who hasn't been able to go out this last year due to covid so this was one of his first times out and not feeling so isolated.

Called in for a spot of lunch at about 1.30 whilst walking in the local area on a Friday afternoon. After going through the normal Covid check-in procedures we asked for a table for two for lunch and received the curt response that they were no longer serving food despite the fact the there were customers eating obviously recently served food. There were no indications either outside the pub or on the menu that there were time restrictions on food service. No explanations given just “We are no longer serving lunch.” Definitely a place to avoid.

Hubby saying the sausage and mash was excellent. Also he really enjoyed the chefs special pud. Were not made to feel that on finishing our meal we had to vacate the table even though they were very busy. As it was a nice afternoon asked if we could have our coffee outside. Not a problem. A table was soon found and we were left to catch up and natter away most of the afternoon. Looking forward to our next visit.

Having telephoned and emailed to book their "Pie and and Ale" offer, which was confirmed by email by the way. We were disappointed to say the least, to be told after a 30 mile journey, that the offer was no longer available. We had a lovely planned day which was to end with this meal offer as a surprise. We felt uncomfortable from the minute we went in following an unwelcoming encounter with a member of staff who sharply pointed to a table for us to wait and get a drink. Nobody came! We eventually were approached by a waiter who asked us for our choices from the full menu. When we said we had booked for "the advertised offer" he said it wasn't available and they had no pies. The fancy menu wasn't what we wanted or what we had booked. So, in short, we spoke to a man who claimed he was the manager but really he couldn't have cared less and blamed everything on Covid. They had our full details so there was no reason they couldn't have contacted us. We left disgruntled and won't be returning. We found a restaurant close by who were welcoming and we had a lovely meal and a delightful experience. To cap it all we then received an email to say "thank you for coming, we hope you enjoyed your meal!" Doah!

My partner and I visited for lunch and I ordered the Mac and cheese and he ordered the burger. After waiting 40 minutes for our food to arrive, the Mac and Cheese was so bland and tasted like it had came out of a packet, resulting in me leaving most of it. If you are going to make something as simple as Mac and cheese, you would expect it to be good, especially at £15. The burger was also very average and dry.The waiter did offer to change my meal for me, but after a 40 minute wait initially, I did not want to sit and wait another 40 minutes for a replacement. I told the waiter this, however when he came to clear the plates he said he was again “disappointed he could not get me a replacement”, not acknowledging or apologising for our initial wait or the poor quality of the food. He did ultimately take the price of the Mac and cheese off the bill, which is the only reason I have given a 2 star, rather than 1. The surroundings are absolutely stunning but do not let this, nor the formal/upmarket service fool you - as unfortunately the food does not match, nor does the quality live up to the prices. I would recommend the short travel to Bourton on the Water to the many cafes there instead.

We stayed here for one night as part of a walking tour. It is a beautiful place in a beautiful setting and promised much. However, we were dismayed to find that after a day’s walking in hot conditions our bags were still in reception and we were expected to take them to our room, something that rarely happens abroad. The room itself was smart and comfortable, but much smaller than we expected for this type of establishment. Dinner was also a disappointment. We expected more than "pub grub". Admittedly very well cooked and well presented but the selection was predominantly the usual suspects..... burger, fish & chips, steak, gammon, sausages....... at inflated prices. A shame.

I just don't get this place. The staff was not welcoming at all and it seems like you disturb them with your presence. We were not allowed to sit outside in the beautiful garden cause of the risk of rain (no rain the whole day and nothing in the forecast) but all the other guest sat in the garden. The manager guided us in an uninviting empty dining room and through the menu on the table. The menu is very meat based and quiet frankly one of the most expensive menus in the whole area. Not really any choices for vegetarians and no vegan choices at all besides the sides. We knew from a previous visit that the fish and chips are questionable in quality. After ordering drinks we left the place cause we couldn't face spending a birthday dinner there in this cold and arrogant atmosphere. We paid with the only nice member of staff and left. We dined in the restaurant on the two nights of our stay at the Inn. Service was polite and reasonably efficient (the same could not be said for the breakfast service). The dinner menu was essentially the same on both evenings ( on the second occasion, one changed main course option and a slight variation on the soup of the day). Most of the main course options came with chips, with no alternative potato offerings. The flat iron steak was tough and fairly tasteless and came rare rather than medium, as requested. The charred onion was too hard even to cut. The 'toasted fregola' was not toasted and tasted bland, the accompanying 'garden pea velouté, goats curd, breakfast radish, preserved lemon' not adding enough to make it even a 'tasty' dish. Like the Inn itself, the restaurant promises much more than it delivers. With a little more effort, it could be excellent.

First time here, but walked past many a time on a walk in the gorgeous surrounding villages. Met dear friends here that we have not seen since last Christmas so was very special and the meal and service did not disappoint!.. more spacious in the dining room than I had imagined too which was reassuring in these times. Light and clean with views over the gardens. Table setting and crockery fab too. The meal itself was one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve ever had! Meat was delicious and veggies and Yorkshire pud top notch too. I had the bakewell for dessert which was yummy. Thank you for a lovely meal and afternoon!

My review of this restaurant is as follows:I booked a table for 11th Oct. for our 40th wedding anniversary, along with another couple, two of our oldest friends. When we arrived, first impressions were good, they have clearly invested considerably in the premises, the bar is tastefully decorated and the welcoming staff were friendly. We were seated in the restaurant area, again, they have invested considerably but we found the décor too much on the stark side for a country venue. We were disappointed with the quality of the food to be perfectly honest. It was somewhat tasteless, as if it had been cooked hours before and warmed up for us. The roast beef was very tough and the potatoes a rubbery texture. The wine was a real disappointment, we chose a bottle of Italian red (Primitivo I think). It was the cheapest bottle of red on the list, and although the waitress asked me if I wanted to try it first, I declined as I assumed that a restaurant of this standard would never sell a poor quality wine. I was wrong, it was poor and somewhat rough tasting and did not belong on the wine list of a restaurant. I did say to the waiter towards the end of the meal how disappointing it was, he made no response at all. The service could have been better frankly, it was somewhat patchy and the staff gave us the impression at the end that they were keen to get us out of there. We have visited the Cotswolds frequently over the years as it is one our favourite destinations and we have visited many pub restaurants in the area, all of which gave us a better experience than this one, I’m sorry to say.

We sat on a bench in a garden and I went inside to order drinks. I was told that I needed to order this from staff outside. So I went back outside and asked a member of staff if we could order. The member of staff told me that I had to sit at a table to place an order. I explained there were no free tables, but we were sitting at a bench. He told me that I'd need to order inside. I said I'd been told I had to order outside... he looked perplexed and told me he'd need to speak to his manager. He disappeared and did not reappear. In the meantime a kind couple offered up their table as they had finished and they sat on the bench. One gentleman who appeared to be in charge was doing a great job looking after customers but other staff were a bit dismissive & uninterested. Their masks were too big and slipping down over their noses. We did ask for cream tea but were told they'd sold out of scones so we waited over 20 minutes for a pot of tea and a sandwich. The sandwich was not cheap (£8!) and the bread was dry and unpalatable but the goat's cheese and chilli jam was good. I would recommend this if they up the standards of their bread. Kudos to the gentleman who checked that we were being served.

All the staff were exceptionally kind and helpful. I had recently had a total knee replacement and staff in the restaurant went out of their way to ensure I was comfortable. Likewise the receptionist ensured I had ice for my knee in the bedroom. Our room had a wet room with a seat enabling me to have a full shower in safety and comfort.

Afternoon tea was booked here for my birthday. We had requested a nice table due to it being my birthday. We were not put in the more luxurious room where we saw others having afternoon tea, instead in the dark back of the pub room next to the toilets. The afternoon tea was poor, would not recommend, the sandwiches were basic and bread felt hard as if they had been sat out all day. We ordered two different pots of tea but were only served one between us and couldn’t see staff to enquire about the other. Scones were fine. We left feeling disappointed especially as this was for a special occasion.

We were really looking forward to celebrating a Birthday with afternoon tea. Unfortunately, the service really put a damper on the day. When we arrived, we struggled to get anybody's attention despite the fact it was clear we were looking for someone to ask for help. When were were finally shown to our table, were were made to feel like an inconvenience rather than paying customers. Overall, the experience was not that pleasant and we felt very disappointed. Real shame given the lovely setting.

A beautiful building and setting. We were passing through and called for drinks and lunch. We had to wait for a table and the service provided was excellent. My issue is with our food. We ordered a Country Inn sharing platter of pork pie, olives, ham, cheddar cheese, chutney, pickles & a selection of breads.I have added a photo. It was on a tray and I was underwhelmed. I usually love a sharing platter but it looked dull. It had the bare minimum of what was described. There were no olives. There was one slice of bread cut into four pieces. There was no garnish, no flair. To be fair, the elements that were there were nice enough. It was not made by someone who has any love of food.It was functional and met its menu descriptive. (Olives were provided on request)It was not worth £20. There was about £5 worth of food that required little or no preparation.

We walked to Lower Slaughter from Bourton on the Water and stopped here to have lunch before walking back (the lunch was pre booked) We had a lovely lunch of Mac and Cheese, ham, egg and chips and fish and chips. All three meals were nicely presented, perfectly cooked and we’re just what we wanted in the middle of our walk. The staff were busy, helpful and attentive. The hotel had gone to great lengths to ensure everyone was Covid-19 safe. There is a lovely garden for alfresco dining which was very busy. All in all a great place to eat and we will be back.

We were due to have afternoon tea at The Slaughters Inn over the weekend but when we got there we were greeted with a sign at the front gate that said it was full. Thought this may of been refering to bookings but as we had pre-booked we thought we'd walk in and get seated. But before we could go in one of the chef's came out and just said 'power-cut' which simply meant leave. No other staff and no reason for it. Bit of a shambles really but understand these things can happen. Would of been much better to have a person explaining what had happened to customers and apologised for the inconvenience. Had driven to the Cotswolds for the weekend and this was one of the specific things we were looking forward to do. Hasn't been any follow up call or email regarding the incident so customer service probably isn't at the top of their list sadly. Real shame.

We arrived and were told to sit outside with some other tables. We were sitting there for 10 minutes before someone came over. No problem however it was not busy so you really have to wonder if they are busy how long it would take for someone to come over? Anyway the person came over and asked if we would like to see the menu. We said yes please. 10 minutes after that he had served someone else who came in after us. Meanwhile existing customers were trying to ask them for help but were being ignored. Overall rather embarrassing as we walked out of a fairly quiet pub and were only acknowledged once. I can not stress how poor the service was especially at a time where now 10pm is the closing time for places like this. The previous night we had been somewhere else where they were affected by the new closing time laws put in place and were exceptionally busy. Even with this they were able to look after us. Overall such a shame as the location of this place is beautiful. Maybe they need some other competitors nearby to buck up their ideas. We walked from a nearby town to get here however if driving I would definitely go elsewhere.

The Slaughters villages are a favourite area of ours. We were celebrating belatedly a Ruby anniversary tea. We arrived early and sat in the garden with coffee. We were greeted by Fran, who is a delightful young lady and she brought our coffee. In fact she was our server at tea as well. We had a walk then back for tea. We checked in for tea with a chap who was polite but no smile or greeting. I mentioned it was a Ruby anniversary tea, to which he made no comment although he may have mumbled something. We were pleased we had Fran serving us. She recognised us from earlier and was so nice. This makes all the difference. The pots of tea arrived and the champagne, very good indeed. However it was some time before the food arrived. Nicely presented, good sandwiches with plenty of filling. The little cakes also good. The very large scones were dry and disappointing. They tasted warmed up rather than freshly baked? They were too big. Generous cream and jam. We were asked by another waiter if all was ok and it was then as we were at the sandwich stage. We did still enjoy it, being in the lovely surroundings. We added a 10% tip purely due to Fran.

A beautiful setting, we enjoyed an afternoon tea which was minimal but of excellent quality. Service was okay, good covid measures in place which made me feel very comfortable. Very spacious inside and after enjoyed a drink in the lovely grounds. Afternoon tea was quite dear but did have the quality, the drinks were extortionate! £22 for two fairly small glasses of pimms and lemonade, I nearly choked on it!

Went here for a drink, sat outside. Had to go in to order, didn’t seem to be an option to do so by app. Had to wait in queue for 5-10 mins. Slow service. No sign in sheet, instead I had to shout out my name and phone number to the girl so the whole pub knew it. Not very professional. Why no sheet like every other pub? Why no hand sanitiser anywhere? My partner wanted a piece of cake with her tea. Whilst they do it, no food allowed outside. I offered to take it out and she just said NO bluntly. I overheard another staff member saying they are overstretched due to 2 people being off sick (someone asked if it was covid to which she replied no, one has broken an ankle, the other I don’t think she elaborated on). Ok, so you are short staffed and therefore don’t want to take food out. But the piece of cake you could have just put on the tray which I had to come back and collect anyway as I hadn’t made a mental note of my table number outside. The girl went through this process with no customer care. Most places might have said, don’t worry, where are you sitting? Etc. I didn’t even want to go inside. Have avoided it since March. Made me not enjoy my beer as I thought it was poor service and my other half not enjoy her tea as she wanted cake with it. Also they only write the names of the beers on the taps. Most pubs have some kind of sign indicating what the beer is like, it’s strength etc. So you have to guess based on the name. I overheard many people saying, they only do food inside. It can’t be much harder to carry it out. You’d probably make a lot more money especially as people are nervous to eat inside right now! The garden is pretty as is the village. Shame about everything else.

We love the hotel ! But ... Dinner last night was very disappointing. Pork pie as a starter which my Husband had was poor ! Put on a plate with no garnish , looked very dull I ordered beetroot Quinoa which was nice but not brilliant and in a bowl plonked in front of me , not even on a serving plate so sides on the bowl had been handled by the waiter ! Not good at this Covid time I ordered the Hake which was very dry and with some dried cumin sprinkled on the top which caught in my throat and was unpleasant , It also had.Granny Smith Apple chopped ?? What a very strange combination?!!& completely tasteless . my Husband had the saffron fish pie which again was uninteresting and no saffron in sight! There wasn’t even a cruet on the table in the bar where we ate and was expecting to eat in the dining room , which again was not nice , The service was very slow and the food very uninteresting & very expensive ! We are staying another night but won’t be dining in !! When we arrived yesterday & ordered a drink in the beautiful garden , the waiter who served us had no personality in the way he served us did not smile and grumpy . Not good enough . What has happened to Customer Service ?? The reception staff , however were excellent. They need to up their game at this hotel work harder & give more finesse and better food . I hate to give a negative review but say it as it is and give many amazing reviews if it’s deserved .

The afternoon tea was average. Our daughter is vegetarian and one of her sandwiches was tomatoe...not really good enough at the price. Scones were very nice. Cakes average. My main concern was lack of cleaning generally around the pub. Food on the floor and tables not cleaned. There were no staff around to keep an eye on customers coming and going.

The worst experience out of I’ve had in a long time. We got to the hotel around 11:30, guests where outside have an early drink. When I approached the bar I was told they weren’t open. When asking why other guests have drinks the young lady responded with “They are Hotel Guests”.I was a little shocked as surely in the pub/restaurant everyone was treated the same. It was very awkward not only for me but those staying also.We finally sat down, inside as they wouldn’t serve food outside....? Again, very odd.35 minutes passed and nobody came to the table so I ordered at the bar. The same then happened to the ladies next to us. Who were also after being told to sit where they liked in the back room (as was I) they were the asked to move as the table was reserved???Again, organisation is something to be desired. Myself and Wife both had the burger, in a charcoal roll. Well, it was without a doubt a worse burger than I could have ever imagined. It was absolutely soaked in grease, I was starving so carried on eating thinking surely we would be asked if this was ok. I managed most of mine, my wife couldn’t get through hers. There was literally a puddle of oil on her plate. The Charcoal Rolls were black and tasted as though they’d been sat in the top for a month. Finally, the elder of the young crew running the restaurant who was quite rude earlier regards the reserved table to other guests came over. I did say everything above. I tried to say it as politely as possible however was annoyed for more than one reason at this point. I would want to know had it been my business, I showed her the grease and she apologised, she picked the plates up, I assumed they were getting my wife something else to eat, but no, nobody came back, no refund, no manager apology. Absolutely disgusting. We always stay at the Lygon in Broadway so wanted to check this place out for next time as it boasts and charges a similar fee. I’d expected usual Cotswold luxury. It’s not even half the place. I still cannot believe nobody came back and at least refunded the one not eaten. Dealt with better, I would have no need to write this review. I see responses from hotels in here to reviews like this and I’m sure they will try to brush it off. 3 tables were taken in the back room and everyone was annoyed. My advice, stay well away from this place.

We’ve just spent a week in the Cotswolds checking out various areas, as we are looking to retire there next year.We stayed at a cottage in Lower Slaughter and visited the Country Inn for lunch one day, having booked it a few days before. We had high hopes for the place - especially in light of its stunning location and also the rest of Mr Brownsword’s portfolio of up-market hotels and eateries.First impressions were very inauspicious. It took three members of staff - who all seemed totally disengaged from their role - to eventually get us to our table whereupon the waiter (who was wearing a visor so far up his head it served no purpose) had to sweep food off our four chairs. Immediately we began to suspect it hadn’t been properly prepared / sanitised etc. Once seated, we looked around the huge room and it felt completely without atmosphere, like a motorway services. The food was actually OK, but nothing more. I had a chicken Caesar salad main which was tasty but the chicken was clearly from a packet not fresh.Having also been to the Chequers in Churchill, Daylesford and the Milton Hare in the days before, this place was a major disappointment. However, we took solace in thinking at least we’d get £40 off under the ‘ Eat out...’ promotion, only to be told it was “Company policy not to run the scheme”. Why ? As a group it’s easier to administer than for an independent and costs you nothing ? Even The Chequers and Daylesford (much harder to get a booking at) both offered the scheme.Overall, it’s put us off the whole Andrew Brownsword portfolio because surely (as we saw everywhere else we went) it’s all about presenting the best customer experience and that’s very much about having friendly staff who are well trained and motivated, and who exude a sense of really enjoying what they do and are happy to be there rather than wishing they weren’t.So, sad to report this was the least enjoyable restaurant experience of our whole trip and one not to be repeated.

We visited for lunch on a Wednesday in August. When we arrived it was really unclear he to get in once we had parked in the car park. We went through the garden and was sent through the wrong one way system in the restaurant. We had to queue at the bar to let them know we had a reservation. None of the staff we encountered inside wore PPE however we did see someStaff outside in visors. The COVID measures were not explained to us. The one way system wasn’t explained. All in all it was quite unsettling. We were told to find a table rather than being shown where to go. We ordered food and drinks at our table. The food was ok, not amazing. The eat out to help out was not offered which was a shame. When we finished our meal we asked for the menu and was told to queue at the bar to pay. We waited in the line for 20 minutes to pay. Just terrible service. We were on holiday for a week and this was our “posh” meal out and I have to say it was really disappointing

I was happy to visit the beautiful village of Lower Slaughter. However, the staff could not really keep up with the high demand for tables outside and found ourselves having to ask staff to clear and clean tables between guests. Due to it being a sunny summers day there were wasps, however due to the inattentiveness of the staff this was a bigger problem than it needed to be. This was even a problem indoors where the windowsill behind the bar was full of dead wasps. The setting really is beautiful but I would hesitate to return due to how uncomfortable we in the current circumstances of COVID.

Lunch though was very expensive for what it was, the beef was lovely but the yorkshire puddings were burnt and hard and the roasties were soggy. We decided to visit after months in lockdown, shielding our son. It was our first public exposure and thought it would be a relatively safe visit for a Sunday afternoon visit. It is usually fairly busy, but as many tables are outside, we thought that we would have felt fairly safe. However, we found that people were sitting around inside without masks. We had to place our order inside with no clear one way system as people were walking in and out through all doors. When we saw the food and drinks being brought out by staff, we were horrified to see that the shields they wore were totally inadequate with the bottom of the shields at almost eye level! One waiter had no protection at all and delivered our order, despite seeing us with masks, made efforts to keep his distance. They went from table to table delivering and clearing with bare hands and no cleansing in between. It appears that whatever measures are taken, are only to be legal. We cut our visit short and left.

A really good old fashioned pub. The menu is old school pub fair, "nowt poncy" just well made. The background music was proper vinyl on a turntable, with the whole album played. Our dog was given a treat before settling down to sleep in front of the fire 🔥😊.

Had a very nice meal here, celebrating a birthday. It was a blessing to find a restaurant that wasn't enforcing a Christmas menu and music. Not being local we had no knowledge of the area, so this was a pleasant surprise. We had a great time, the staff were friendly and helpful and we didn't feel rushed to vacate our table. The food was great and good value. Very happy with the overall experience and will be booking again.
