Fantastic hospitality and wonderful food. Sunday roast to die for: roast beef cooked perfectly, vegetables, excellent choice for time of year, also cooked to perfection. Not my first visit and looking forward to my next. Thank you, Sheila, Graham & Staff 😁 Regards A-J & Pat

Went to this pub one day before Cheltenham - £5 pint Guinness for the first drink, then the landlord decided to put the prices up to £7.50 a pint, because of the racing tomorrow. Absolutely disgraceful. No respect for visitors that help support the local economy. Will not be coming back!

Myself & my partner with some of our friends and children visited the Royal Oak for a spontaneous lunch. When we ordered and paid we were then told that 2 of our mains and 1 of our starters were unavailable so we got refunded for a starter and chose 2 different mains, i feel before any customer orders staff should be aware of items of starters and mains they don't have available to save any time wasting of hassle. The basket which was brought out was severely rammed with cutlery, napkins, sachet sauces, bottle sauces and a salt & pepper shaker. We ordered some starters for the table which took around 45mins to be brought out to us, and then a further 1hr went past to which we still hadn't recieved our mains. We ordered our food at 13.03 and by 14.42 we gave up waiting and asked for our money back. We did recieve a refund for the food we didn't receive and we were told there was apparently eclectic issues in the kitchen to which our food was so delayed which again i feel should of been told to us before or during our order to make us aware.

We totalled about 30m people and on arrival were shown into their party reception room. It was separate from the main pub and exactly what we required. Looking for somewhere for a quick lunch this pub came up on Google Maps. Obviously popular with locals, some just popping in for coffee. There was only one ale on the bar but it was well kept & very drinkable. The sandwiches were warm ciabatta packed with home cooked ham accompanied by crisps, coleslaw and a bit of salad - very reasonably priced at £6.50 each. The barman was very busy but very efficient. The place was a real find for Saturday lunch.

We had to ask for the tables to be cleaned (not sure this pub is aware of covid?!). This made us worry about the cleanliness of the kitchen. Food was average. Service was really bad. Slow, didn’t clear the table of our finished plates, had to look for her for dessert menu. Never offered a drink. Honestly really poor service. If you sit outside, expect to be sitting in a cloud of smoke. Smoke travels inside the pub too. Overall I would not recommend this pub for food. Will not be visiting again.

V buen bocadillo de gambas y patatas fritas y ensalada de col. Incluso en estos tiempos de pandemia llenos de basura, se puede decir que un pub que disfruta de su negocio y este se siente como uno. We visited The Royal Oak, Andoversford, on a cold day in November 2019. On arrival, the restaurant was cold inside with the fire unlit, just a pile of cold ash. The waitress was wearing long thick sheepskin boots, much needed in the cold environment. The main course for lunch was delicious. But we felt so cold that we couldn't face staying any longer so did not order a pudding! Some effective heating would have made all the difference.

Worth looking for off A$0 outside Cheltenham with large car park, welcoming bar area, garden at back and separate restaurant on two levels. An excellent selection of beers and cider with a comprehensive menu which apparently changes to reflect seasonal food. There were good starters, a selection of sandwiches and flat breads, and some good mains. The desserts looked good too. I ordered the Ploughmans' lunch which although it seemed pricey from the menu was quite excellent and possibly the biggest and tastiest that I have eaten in some time. So generous was the portion that I did not manage any dessert on this occasion. My fellow diners enjoyed their food including a very large gammon steak. Not only was food good to eat, but presentation on the plate and service were excellent too. Intend to revisit and try out more from the menu soon.

We have eaten here twice recently following local walks and on both occasions we enjoyed a nice late lunch, once a standard pub battered fish and chips and once from the special lunch menu, both of which were complete main courses - the main course menu does fall quite a bit into the area of needing to order separate side dish accompaniments which does rack up the price for a lunch option, may be more palatable for dinner. Friendly service and nice big tables, also good to see they also have local Cotswold Brewery IPA on tap.

When our Australian guest asked which of the dishes on the menu were gluten free, we didn’t really expect that much guidance. However, the landlady (at least we assume that was her position as she seemed very much in charge) didn’t bat an eyelid and went to ask the chef. She returned listing the dishes that were GF and said they also had GF bread, which was helpful. She even pointed out that there was a slight trace of gluten in the mustard dressing on the ham. While we might expect this level of attention in a larger city bar or restaurant, we didn’t think a country pub (even one in the Cotswolds!) would be able to be so specific. Our guest was extremely grateful as he would be playing cricket the next day and didn’t want to risk feeling out of sorts on the pitch! He enjoyed he pea-and-ham soup followed by a roast beef sandwich. My husband had the picnic basket brimming with meaty treats (he said the beef was spot on) and my gougons in a brioche bun were delicious. The service was excellent (we were given a quiet table at the back of the pub when we arrived) and there was a nice atmosphere. It was quite busy for a mid-week lunchtime, so the staff must be doing something right.

The Royal Oak is a pub/restaurant in the village of Andoversford, just outside Cheltenham. We looked at its menu online, and it sounded OK but not particularly unusual. We noted though that the additional 'specials' were recommended, so thought we'd call in, have a drink and look at that week's offerings. So glad we did! There were several really interesting main courses. We sat in the lower half of the restaurant section (there is an upstairs) which on a weeknight we had to ourselves. It's a pleasant space. Service is good too - very attentive and showing a real (and justified) pride in the food.We both began with the gin-cured trout, from the regular menu as there were no starters on the specials list. It was fantastic, with lots of delicately cured trout - and amazing value too.The duck breast was a 'special' and was indeed special. It was perfectly cooked, with a spice coating, and came with sweet potato, heritage carrots and a port and prune jus. Of course, we didn't need a pudding. But home made ice cream was suggested.... In fact all desserts are home made, we were told. The vanilla, salted caramel and hazelnut ice creams were really delicious. Not needed but certainly enjoyed! This is really good cooking, imaginative and accomplished. And at a reasonable price too. Do call in and see what the latest delights might be!

After zooming past The Royal Oak so many times in the past in a hurry to get home, I decided to take the time to go back out there for lunch today. The menu offered a selection which should please most people and I'll hazard a guess from the way it was presented that it changes quite often. We had chicken in a basket which was very nicely presented in a 'deep-frying' type metal basket. The chicken was perfectly cooked through, lovely and moist and with crispy skin (mmm!), and was jointed into three pieces which made it much easier to handle. The chips were nice and crispy and there was an ample green salad with spicy cole slaw.Oh, and top marks for the linen napkin!

My party of four visited with high expectations after reading the website and trip advisor reviews. We ordered steaks, crab risotto and a teriyaki pork burger. The steaks were satisfactory. The risotto showed nor tasted any evidence of crab. The. Pork burger was served with a stir fry vegetable and noodle salad. The burger was raw in the middle and the noodle salad could not have been freshly prepared (it was sloppy and colourless). Having expressed our disappointment to the waitress quietly and politely, our meals were taken away. No member of staff approached us again. We asked for the bill, paid, and left, without any further comment from the staff. Was it significant that there was a sign outside saying "Chef Required"?

Always a friendly welcome, and always seems to be improvements ongoing (outside area just superbly re-laid in time for Spring/Summer). We booked for 5 Christmas Day lunches, but on the morning had to amend that to 4 due to illness; this was accepted without complaint. It was the BEST Christmas lunch any of us had ever had. The food was perfectly cooked and presented, and there was more than enough of it; when we informed the staff that we could not eat our cheese course due to being full up, it was delivered to us in a box to take home ''because you have paid for it, so you should have it''. Often reading reviews you find there are mixed messages, but you can only judge by what you experience and ours today was very good. You should book if you want to be seated in the restaurant area, just to avoid disappointment, but I'm sure there were places in the bar if you don't. We ordered 3 roasts (pork and lamb) and couldn't believe the size of the pork loin that came our way. The crackling was delicious and crispy on both and, as one of the party said as the empty plates went away: you know it's good when you don't have to add any seasoning!

I went with a group of friends to the Royal Oak on a very chilly Saturday. It does look better inside than the last time I visited and has a nice real fire adding to the welcome. However, we were upstairs which is a rather starkly decorated but no matter. The menu is quite extensive with everything from Soup to Burgers. Being cold I thought that a nice warming bowl of chowder would be just the ticket. Unfortunately for me this appeared to be just the cooking liquor that the haddock was poached in, bizarrely served in a just with a cold bowl containing 1 new potato cut in half and a very small square of haddock. I was, to say the least, disappointed. A chowder, to my mind, should be creamy and smooth, not watery. It was pretty tasteless and without body. Served with a hunk of granary bread (no butter was offered which was a shame). I will say that I must have been unlucky as my fellow diners all seemed to enjoy their meal. I think that perhaps the kitchen has tried a little too hard on this occasion to "up" their game and it failed, personally I don't want my soup in a jug with a cold bowl and I expect it to be thicker than milk. On to dessert - a triumph, a delicious sticky toffee pudding, you can't go wrong with a decent pud. They also house a decent selection of beers and ciders - plenty of choice for everyone

We were travelling through and decided to stop here for a light lunch. We loved the open sandwiches, they were fresh and delicious. So glad we waited for this and didn't have lunch at the motorway services.

I must tell everyone about our excellent lunch st the Royal Oak last Sunday 19th September. There were 8 of us and we all said how lovely the food, service, and welcome we received were. Nothing was too much trouble and the pork belly was especially good. We would recommend it to anyone!

We stopped here on the way back to wales from Oxford, driving and using Trip advisor to locate somewhere nearby. We expected to find a cosy old pub with traditional food! How wrong could we be? It was certainly old - 17C but it was superbly fitted out and welcoming from our entrance. We had not booked and walked in at 7ish on a Friday night. We were welcomed and fitted into the evenings service. It was a quirky old fashion layout that befitted the era but the service was definitely al a Carte. We could only have mains as the tables were booked for 8.15 but it was worth it. We all had totally different food, belly port, rack of lamb chops, fish and chips and the speciality steak and ale pie. Everything had really unusual things with them, red cabbage with the pie, lemon may dressing for the haddock, kale with the lamb. The portions were filling and all cooked and served to perfection. Really nice professional staff waiting tables. cost £66 for four meals 2 pints a bottle of water and 2 soft pints. We could have stayed for desserts which did look really nice but we were all full!

This is the second time we've eaten at The Royal Oak. The first time was a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon, so we sat outside in the courtyard with the dog in tow. Both of us ordered burgers (one chicken and one beef). They were delicious and the home made chips and mayonnaise really were something else. I could have eaten unlimited amounts them! After such an amazing experience first time round, we then opted in for Sunday lunch on our next visit. Well it didn't disappoint. The pork belly was served with perfect crackling and this delicious apple purée, the beef just melted as you ate it. Both were served with great presentation and all the veg you could possible want. As the mains were so good we couldn't help ourselves but order a pudding! (Or two!) Both the eaton mess and the cheese board didn't disappoint. My favourite thing about this place is how understated it is. The staff are so welcoming, both to humans and dogs, the food is so reasonably priced for the quality you get and the drinks keep flowing. If you're looking for a new favourite place to eat, I highly recommend The Royal Oak.

Family outing to this lovely family run 17th century pub and what a surprise. Excellent food and very welcoming staff. They were so helpful as we had a young baby and nothing was too much trouble. The steak and ale pie was amazing and the lamb cutlets with braised lamb, kale and sauté potatoes, a very high culinary standard. Worth a visit!

Following a very positive conversation over the phone regarding gluten free meals, our visit lived up to expectation. The service was second to none, all the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the food and history of the lovely former coaching inn. The welcome at the bar was warm and friendly. After pursing the menu, our choices were 2 huge homemade burgers, freshly made cheese and onion pie with minted new potatoes and a wonderful pork belly with pig's cheeks. We decided on the braised red cabbage as an extra as it sounded irrisistable! All four meals were of exceptional flavour and portion size. We will definitely be returning for more of the same, highly recommend!!

We visited here completely unexpectedly as we were all hungry and needed to eat. This is one of the best local finds I've had. It's a great cross between a traditional country pub and a fashionable country eatery. The food was excellent! Very well presented and full of flavoursome goodness, we experienced 3 courses and each one was great. I would strongly recommend this place to everybody!Oh...fantastic service too.

Having not been to The Royal Oak since it changed hands, we thought we'd pop in. The decor is lovely, quite modern yet cosy, and the staff are very friendly. We enjoyed our sandwiches and couple of drinks, which we thought were very good value. The menu looked interesting and varied, so we'll definitely be back.

Having already eaten at the Royal Oak at lunchtime, we brought some friends with us for dinner on a Saturday night. It was fairly quiet, probably due to the fact that England were playing Russia. However the menu is a good mix of pub classics and more cheffy dishes something for everyone. All the dishes that were ordered were well presented and very tasty together with the excellent and friendly service this is a must visit for diners looking for great food and service at sensible prices. Please don't take my word for it give it a try, you won't be disappointed. We will be back.

Four of us had Saturday dinner here. The menu was a touch above the standard pub fare but not quite the fancy gastropub so prevalent in Gloucestershire. Excellent smoked salmon starter, beef and guiness pie with red cabbage and chips and capuccino mousse for dessert. The service was prompt and friendly, the surroundings were pleasant and all in all a very good place for meal out friends..

Visited for lunch on a sunny day, so having ordered our food and drinks at the bar went and sat outside. The food duly arrived and was well presented, both the burger and chicken and halloumi with accompaniments were delicious. The staff were very friendly (the owners I believe), so we booked to come back and try the evening menu with some friends in June, can't wait to come back. Thank you for an enjoyable lunch.

I have been visiting the Royal Oak for 30 years. Landlords have come and gone, and more recently things had gone a little down hill.I was pleased to be invited by a local recently that said all is now well and they are back in business serving the super traditional pub grub I so yearned for,A wonderful evening dinner was had, though a little more gastro pub than traditional pub grub. Never the less, great service, and excellent food at a reasonable price.

Wanted a local pub and to get out of Cheltenham, just five minutes from us and very pleased with the result. New family have refurbished and I think they'll do really well. Not a pub chain so that's a relief. We only had a steak each and trimmings but it was very good (some pub steaks are not as you expect but a really good quality rump and perfectly cooked). The menu looked good so we will be back I'm sure. Winter time so log fire was lovely. Lots of locals gave it atmosphere too. Good luck to the new owners.

Spent a couple of hours here today for lunch, the staff were all very friendly and the whole team were working tirelessly, all doing a bit of everything. Lady (assume was the manager) was running a very efficient service. We were seated up at the back near the garden doors. Food is delicious, could see the chef cutting fresh veg as orders came in. Very reasonably priced for decent portions. Clean and tidy venue. Very impressed.

Had a very nice meal here, celebrating a birthday. It was a blessing to find a restaurant that wasn't enforcing a Christmas menu and music. Not being local we had no knowledge of the area, so this was a pleasant surprise. We had a great time, the staff were friendly and helpful and we didn't feel rushed to vacate our table. The food was great and good value. Very happy with the overall experience and will be booking again.

Stopped in the Noel Arms twice while in the area for food. Enjoyed their adorable coffee shop area & had a separate sit down dinner. The coffee shop was adorable & decorated for the fall season. I had a great oat milks latte & vegan cake slice to go. I noticed they had a sit down dining area & we came back for dinner later on. Dinner service: The dining area was busy for dinner service but staff was quick to tend to us. They had a decent selection of British pub fare as well as a selection of their award winning Indian dishes. They also had clearly marked vegan dinners - which is why I came in. I got the vegan sausage & veggie dish. It was alright. The sausage & veggies were on the oily side. (Which caught me sort of off guard but it wasn’t bad!) But in an area that doesn’t have many vegan choices- it was a blessing. I also got their Naan bread with hummus as a side. That was amazing. The Naan was hot, fresh & seasoned so well. The hummus was the winner. So delicious to dip the Naan in. It was a very quiet & relaxing dinner. Staff was great.
