I organise a Christmas get together each year for colleagues both working and retired. This year I decided to try it at The Princess Royal. What a good choice, all we want is a venue that serves good beer , you don't have to wait ages at the bar and will provide us with Sausage and Chips for us 35 guys. Kris & Claire at The Princess Royal couldn't have been more accommodating or helpful. We had a wonderful evening great atmosphere, Good Bear and Nice simple food just perfect. We will be back next year for sure. Paul Woolvin (BT Guys)

A few weeks ago my husband & I came for lunch here & the food was very good, but the ladies toilets were filthy. Considering it was only lunch time, I would have thought they would have been cleaned in the morning, but clearly not. I talked a couple of friends to meet me here for dinner this week & the food was hit & miss. My cod looked like it had been on a diet, cod is usually a meaty fish, but not this one. My friend didn’t like her rise dish either, strangely sweet tasting. We were very disappointed, but the most disappointing this was the ladies toilets again. They didn’t look like they had been cleaned since the last time I came. Absolutely disgusting.

We visited the Bicknoller Inn for a Friday lunch and were respectfully and quietly met by the pub dog, mentioned in so many reviews to date. Sophie was managing front of house, both bar and restaurant, was polite and friendly throughout and worked with efficiency and speed. We picked up drinks from the bar - although Sophie even offered to carry them - and were shown to our table in the airy and light dining area. Our ciabattas arrived within a reasonable time of ordering. Whilst on the expensive side, portions were generous and presentation (on a board) well above what one would expect for a light lunch! Flavours were generally very good and we left clean plates (well, boards). Just before we left Lynda (the manager) kindly spent quite some time chatting with us about how the Bicknoller Inn is run, how it is sourced with local ingredients and as much as possible is freshly prepared (e.g. the bacon in my ciabatta and the homemade coleslaw accompanying it). Lynda also talked about the pub industry in general which was interesting to hear. On our way out we stopped and said goodbye to the mastiff who had greeted us and we departed happy. The Bicknoller Inn is well worth a visit. Clean, well run, with polite and capable staff. The building has tremendous character and is warm and inviting. Worth the little bit extra we paid and we will return before long.

We stayed the night here, had dinner and breakfast the next morning - WOW!!! What super lovely staff, great stay, cute rooms, wonderful hot & powerful shower! Breakfast was AMAZING (eggs royal) 9.5/10 as my only problem was bed too hard and bit lumpy. Everything else perfect, right down to the tasty little cookies in the room. Will definitely stay again

Visited the soft play yesterday, one young girl in there on her own looking like she was struggling. Took her ages to clear people’s tables after they had left we offered or help her but she kindly denied our request. (Wasn’t her fault was lack of staff and very busy) Can’t remember ladies name was young blond girl was amazing throughout the whole time we were there. Was amazing with my little girl and interacted with her as well as trying to get through everything else that needed doing in there. Think the managers need to get more staff in on a weekend was horrible seeing the young lady trying to sort that the mess, clear all the tables and clear a party up after they left. Big well done to her and we will be back for the soft play.

Myself and two friends went to The Lawns for the Sunday Carvery, and came away full and very content! The food was all lovely. My friends had the roast beef and both said that it was the best beef they'd ever had at a carvery! We had to go back up for a couple of items, as it was pretty busy and the demand was high! The roast veg was all lovely and crispy, and the mashed potato was fluffy. They will serve until they run out, and we're still going strong when we left shortly after 3pm. The staff were friendly and helpful and I was told when the cauliflower cheese was about to come out... I was stuffed, but was determined and I managed to fit a little in! No photos, as it was on the plate one minute, and in our stomachs the next!! Thank you to the staff and management. We'll be back! :)

I enjoyed my walk here from Bristol, especially the charming National Trust path above the Avon which allows you to avoid much of the busy A-road. The pub is in a quiet position above the Avon and is attractive from the outside. The interior is more disappointing - no obvious signs of its Georgian antiquity, and overall pretty uncharming, including for grotty carpets and loos. Loud canned music. Still, I enjoyed their fish and chips and a local pint of bitter.
