The Perkin Warbeck in Taunton Deane

It was a Christmas party for a group of friends. We took the trip on a bus to Taunton's Perkin Warbeck [ Royal pretender if I recall ! ] Well it was FAB. We loved it the prices the company and everyone was polite and kind. So good we are planning a return visit.

Good place nice atmosphere but unfortunately was undone as I received garden peas on my scampi instead of mushy peas as I initially ordered.. I also did NOT receive my slice of lemon to put of scampis, I asked a member of staff and they said they would come back but unfortunately did not. Won’t return

I used to like this Spoons, don't get me wrong the food is good, but some of the staff are really unfriendly and I thought it's always the customer comes first but not here, if you're looking to bring an extension lead your out of luck as these don't allow it but all the other Spoons I've been to, they allow it! And you can't bring your own drink, even though I had a refill coffee from here, they wouldn't let me finish my Coca-Cola bottle that I bought from a shop outside the Pub! I am a regular and come here twice a week, spend a-lot of money here, but I am thinking of looking for another Pub elsewhere. And they don't serve BBQ sauce, and I love Barbeque sauce, where as every Wetherspoons Pub does! Would not recommend this Pub i would consider finding another Spoons nearby. Edit: I was sitting here today enjoying my coffee roughly about 2 weeks after the extension incident minding my own business after a long and Stressful day until the manager came up to me and said I was banned! And worse it was only for saying I would never come back here, but the thing is I went in on Monday and they didn’t say anything. so they just kicked me out and I’m never allowed back in there, this is an absolute joke! (I also have Autism and ADHD and I told them this but they don’t seem to give a Damn! It’s discrimination really!)

As we were shopping in Taunton we went in this Wetherspoons for brunch. It was very busy but we managed to find a table not too close to others. The food took just minutes to come and was hot and delicious. The staff were friendly and the toilets clean

I always order their classic sirloin steak with eggs as it is the healthiest food I found in Taunton. There are no other restaurants in Taunton that are healthy. Sometimes though, their steak is well cooked, sometimes not so good. Depends on the chef. UPDATE: (1 Dec 2024) Their steak has gotten progressively worse as of late that I don't want to go back and eat regularly at Perkin anymore. I believe they might've changed chefs recently, so that may be the reason, but I do not recommend eating off their steak menu anymore. I've included pictures of their steak. The picture with the better steak is their older one. The newer one is the one with a disgusting steak.

Oh my goodness me… just popped in today as you can never go wrong with a Wetherspoons…well how wrong I was we had literally had jacket potato cheese and beans…. First potato was cold and tasted raw, they changed it and still wasn’t overly warm and the taste was just horrible, we tried but never again!!!

Jamall the doorman needs more training in how to address women and elderly people. I saw him acting so aggressively toward a woman and an 80yr old army vet. Really let the other staff down put them in a vulnerable position. Fortunately our group are not interested in engaging with such inflammatory antics. Learn from your colleagues Jamall would be the best asvice

Large town centre pub ,doing what Wetherspoons does to a good degree ,not as cosy as some,preferred the Coal Yard which is now closed.

Mahoosive building that was once a furniture shop I believe. Excellent service, beer and food. Wetherspoons again showing other bar/pub owners how to do things right.

Not a regular visitor to Wetherspoons but this one was very good. The staff were first class. The food was hot. The choice was excellent. All round - for a quick meal - cannot fault it.

Whilst in the fit out job in Sainsbury's opposite the Witherspoons myself and many of my co-workers have been using their facilities however it's a bad show when they've only got one coffee machine on and three are stood idle and people stood waiting for the machine to clean it cycle when asked duty manager he asked me politely to wait until it's cleaned I asked him you've got three other machines can you not just turn them on and he replied no they've been cleaned ready for use tomorrow but you've got customers in today when a customer is already agitated it's hard to get them back on side will they go elsewhere and spend their money elsewhere it is for you to decide and me

Went in with husband and family 4 people altogether for a meal was totally crap no-one helped me when I got upset from a drunken teenager and his friends I told a staff member didn't help I think your place is very poor not saying my name

This must be the largest Spoons I have ever visited! So many tables that we had no problem finding a seat even though pub was busy. Ordered food and expected a long wait, but was delivered to table quickly and was very good quality. Well worth a visit

Visited 11/7/24 around lunchtime. A nice establishment. The only downside was the barman in the black tee shirt. It wasn’t so much that he was rude, he just seemed disinterested and unfriendly. When my drinks were done he just plonked them on the bar and walked away without an ounce of courtesy. Don’t usually meet bar staff like that at your establishments. Hence the three stars.

Another wetherspoons so good value food and drink, biggest pub I've ever been in, can get really busy and noisy, loads of different areas to sit, it's even got a out door patio brilliant on hot summer nights,

You can always rely on J. D. Wetherspoon for fast efficient service via their App plus bargain prices in a preserved heritage building. We had an agreeable Freedom Breakfast matched with a pint of Mauldons Black Adder dark fruity stout. We returned at lunch break at Somerset County Cricket Ground for an excellent Chicken Katsu Curry matched with Leffe. Only negative aspect is that they don't allow dogs in.

Food cold Fight broke out in the bar,between customer and bar staff,at 10.30am.

I had a sausage sandwich which was left under the heater whilst the staff members had a chat with the chef therefore my food was dryed out. On visiting the disabled toilet using my radar key I was unable to lock the toilet from the inside and a member of staff walked in. I told him that the lock does not lock to which I was informed that yes they were aware but was unable to give me an answer, when I told him that it should lock.

Must have time it just right as food was served 5 minsc after ordering and even before the drinks came. Food piping hot and as expected for a whetherspoons, do like the chicken strips with JD sauce.

You know what you're getting with Wetherspoons, which is why we keep going back. Amazing breakfasts, including black pudding, and a free drink for less than £6, and the opportunity to get a pint if you so wish. What more could you wish for? Well, actually, I don't want alcohol at 10am, so perhaps there's a non alcoholic beer instead? There's not one, but nine different types of 0% alcohol beers and ciders, not to mention alcohol free wine. The food portions are enormous, and tasty and there are plenty of condiments to go with them. Staff are friendly, competent and efficient, and just get on with serving you quickly. For a large chain that clearly uses the low price high turnover business model, meaning everything saved is passed to the customer, for me it ticks all the boxes. If I was to ask for one improvement, it would be to sell pork scratchings, to go with my non alcoholic pint. Thanks Wetherspoons, you're great!

A good place to go for food and drinks

Decent food, great prices, good beer. You know what you're getting, nice venue, bottomless coffee pot what's not to like. Very popular, food still as expected, great value.

We use wetherspoons quite often, not been here before and not disappointed, 😊

I have visited spoons in many parts of the UK and have no issues with any of them except for The Perkin Warbeck. Stroppy disinterested staff who find serving an inconvenience to their conversations. Who have no concept of keeping a general idea about who’s next to be served. I have seen staff literally run from a waiting queue at one part of the bar some distance to serve friends / family the second they arrive at the bar. This coupled with the fact that at weekends large numbers of tables are unusable for protracted periods of time as they are not cleared after diners have left. Food, drinks, dirty plates etc everywhere. This spoons is dump and best avoided. Tim Martin should have kept the “ Coal Orchard “ open and closed this lousy spoons. AVOID…

Came to perkin late on a Monday, not expecting fast service but was quite pleasantly surprised by the the speed of the service! Very friendly staff and they even made our shots into a little colour coordinated pyramid! Very very happy with the effort they went into for the aesthetics, will be coming back.

The pub is fine but it’s always really cold. The aircon is blasting out cold air which seems ridiculous…………………………………..

I have been coming to the Perkin in Taunton since the beginning of February since spending 12 months working in Minehead, All Wetherspoons pubs are great in there own way, there had been many of visits to the Wellington Wetherspoons over the 12 months i was in Minehead and even though all the staff members were great and friendly, even though the Wellington wasn't or didn't seem to be that busy at times i always found tables were always filled with empty glasses or even food plates and for long periods b4 they were cleared away. This is the reason for this review of the Perkin in Taunton, I wanna give a very well deserved shout out to Davide the Perkin is always busy as in a bustling part of the town i can honestly say i haven't seen any tables that would have glasses or plates on the table for more than 10 minutes Davide is always on top of this and works very hard working and always goes above of what i would say was his job description, i feel that everyone will take there time to complain but not to give a good review. i must say all the staff are always friendly polite and also hardworking i also see the Managers helping out on the floor also. But i would like to point out Davide asa star worker.

Am a regular there eaten and never any problems but main reason for review was suddenly taken ill while there on Tuesday staff could not have done enough especially callum who sat with me to ambulance came fantastic all round many thanks

You can get cheap drinks but will still pay over £4 for a pint of san Miguel. Had the large mixed grill. Couldn’t tell the difference between the meats as it was that over cooked. One saving grace is a bit of meat had seasoning in one bite I had. Considering how overcooked the meat was, the onion rings and chips were under cooked. Chips are meant to be the saving grace of a spoons dinner. These were more flaccid than… well you can imagine.

Good Staffs, large pub and has a nice garden upstairs. Food was nice. Had a great time.

Good value but avoid Friday & Saturday night youth club.

Dat at table 111 already heard staff moaning about other customers food came and 2 out of 4 had hair on it now waited 20 mins for the replacements no apology and staff stood glaring at us for making a complaint

Got to watch the staff here if you order extras since they will try to scam cash by getting it slightly wrong, pound here pound there and when it adds up they can nick a tenner from the till and everything adds up in the books still, pretty pathetic, foods nothing special too and if you use the specials like when you get cheaper fish and chips on certain days then they deliberately send inferior food out worse chips and you’ll end up with half a fish and the other half is just batter! At least the atmosphere is alright if you just ignore the gangy staff vibe.

Never have I been in any spoons for them to charge me twice for a brew free refills all day not for an hour absolute joke and the food tasted like microwave food may be the longest but still is the worsed in the country by far such lack of staff manners and sence atmosphere is good but staff need a review by upper management seriously

Always busy but loads of tables. Always quick service. Nice staff. Food is on the whole good considering the reasonable price. Its just the steak that I would avoid as far to tough.

I'v been to lots and lots of weatherspoons pubs but this one is easily the best. The food was fab the service was really excellent and very fast. All staff are very helpful and friendly. A well managed pub.

I was told by the manager that he isn't legally allowed to tell me what oil they use for cooking and the opposite is true. He legally has to inform me what I'm putting in my mouth if he knows the answer. On that basis all I can say is enjoy your "Rape" Seed Oil!

Came in here for the first time today.. With the missus and her kids.. I couldn't believe how big this place is..WoW... The missus and kids had food.. I just had a pint.. The food was served quickly.. And everyone was happy with what they ordered... Hopefully will visit again in the future...

I've never felt more uncomfortable in a pub, has multiple staff and managers tell me and my friends that we're unwelcome and need to leave in a certain amount of time even after we brought food and drinks. I do not recommend this place.

Where to start, place needs shutting down.. poor quality food. Told I couldn't have an all day brunch as no eggs, then same for a large mixed grill, so I said just leave the egg off then, the dummy said "it won't let me put it though". So a small mixed grill but ALL the meat overcooked and tough. Screaming kids everywhere and an old tramp at the back who walks around stuffing left over food off peoples plates in his pocket...it was time to go!!!

The staff put drinks on our table the wrong table , we drank them thinking they was ours and the staff came up to us demanding our money for them when it was there error ,I’d like to know how this is fair and our fault when we didn’t order the drinks , ashambles in my opinion , why is it our fault that they made a mistake , joke !!!

This was a fabulous pub for drinking, with a large area that has a classic design! This is coupled with glorious lights across, counter is well-presented too and toilets had cleanliness maintained. I had two delicious pints of cider, taking advantage of the selection of flat ones on craft that has to be asked for! The seating is comfortable and staff were friendly, being understanding when I was feeling slightly off towards the end around midnight.

We all know, or we think we will know, what we will get when we go to a 'spoons', sadly not with Taunton's finest example. Tables are dirty, and in general, the place is unkempt. Staff clearly don't really care, and the drinks and food is dumped, and they run. I ordered the vegan sausages, chips, and beans, and my partner ordered a pizza. My Sausages were cold, as were the smutteting of chips, and the beans looked as if they had been microwaved a dozen times before finding my plate. The pizza with limp with lack of cooking and was a sorry example of nothing close to what it should have been. To be honest, there is little point in saying anything to a member of staff because I fear what would happen to any more food coming out of the kitchen!! I think the answer is just not to go back to this particular pub.

I went to lower Petherton carnival it's was freezing cold weather, we looked up the nearest spoons wasn't far away About 10 min drive (carnival inn is closer but the carnival was heading that way so it was a no goer) The Taunton spoons is big, doorman were polite when we arrived at 11pm( due to the late running of the carnival of 90 mins) we went for coffee as I was driving back to torbay keep me awake The service was very quick from the app staff were friendly Its always good visiting other spoons u know what ull get so it's like home from home Sad to hear the other spoons in Taunton went it was very retro spoons indeed

3 plates for £15 and 2 bottles of cider for less than £6 can't go wrong there! Staff were lovely and so was the atmosphere

What can we say it's a spoons. Service is good food is good value for your money. We had a slight issue with one of our meals but it was rectified in record time so a great experience.

A very quiet pub in the early evening. We went for steak night on a few occasions and each time got a refund as the food was not up to scratch. Very disappointing. Manager was sound though, and gave a refund without much fuss. Beer is best thing about this pub. 👌

Sirloin steak worst ever eaten, cold chewy full of fat. Served with chips in a few minutes, tasted like just out of the freezer, poor quality. Do yourself a favour don't order steak at perkin warbeck Taunton. Not cheap either.
