Basic setting and Basic food. If you do decide to go do not have the lasagne. It was not edible. Completely overcooked or overheated couldn't tell which. The lasagne and cheese were just congealed mush. Didn't even have a salad dressing to offer. I wouldn't normally bother leaving a bad review but to not even be asked if everything was OK says it all. When you see a plate of food left you would expect someone to ask if there was a problem with the food but nothing. £14.95 was a total cheek and not even offered a discount. In these hard times with lots of competition you would expect better quality food. Visitors staying would then go back, we won't be .

Had a couple of drinks in the outside garden area but when we queued to have food in doors with our two dogs (although plenty of tables) we were told they couldn’t take anymore dogs, from what I could see there were no dogs inside. I appreciate some places don’t allow dogs but when advertised as dog friendly, being told they couldn’t take anymore dogs inside when there were none was a bit unfair. It’s a shame as the menu looked nice on the boards outside.

Called for lunch on a hot sunny day. Went to the garden bat area. This is on several levels with steps to them, so afraid some people could find this difficult. The area is well set out, plenty of room and the tables varying in size for different numbers. The bar was well stocked for an additional one outside. The menu is different from the inside area, but this us made known before you enter the premises from the boards outside. The food was good and reasonably priced, yes it is served in boxes but taking into consideration the way the area is set out it seems a very sensible set up. Al staff we came into contact with were friendly.

Used to love coming here. The menu used to be quite extensive but now greatly reduced. Order prawn sandwiches...arrived on very stale bread. The other members of the family's meals were ok but we won't want to return. Also we could not find any light switches in the toilets...a man was struggling to change his baby's nappy and we all commented as to how dark it was. The toilet roll dispenser was behind you on the toilet and the front panel missing leading to toilet paper all over the floor. Not good

After searching for a Sunday lunch we decided to give this place a go. From the outside the building looks amazing and the food smelt really good, but thats as far as our delight went. The roast dinner consisted of dry turkey kept warm in gravy coloured water and roast potatoes that are very clearly reheated to order (this fact was proven by looking into the kitchen and seeing a plate full of potatoes sitting under heat lamps that were turned off), the member of staff that served us didn't seem to want to be there, she didnt smile nor give us great service because as soon as our food got bought to our table, she disappeared and we never saw her again, we saw more flies then we did members of staff. If you want an unreal Sunday roast book a table at the Smugglers Cott, everything is cooked to order there, unlike here.

We went to this establishment today as we were looking for a place to have a burger for lunch. What an absolute mistake. We were the first ones in at lunch time, so had our pick of the seats. We sat down and ordered a burger each. It wasn't long before it came, but in the mean time, a table of 3 came in, sat down, ordered drinks, looked at the menu and left. Another couple came in with a dog, to be told that their dog was too big, so they couldn't eat there (they had a lucky escape). Our food was brought to us, and it looked ok, but the burger was no better than you would get at Wetherspoons or McDonalds, in fact, it was worse. The home-made coleslaw I would have been embarrassed to put my name to - it had the most awful bitter taste to it. I tried to mix some mayonnaise with it, but it had little effect, so we left it. The onions in the burger had the same bitter taste to them, so I have no idea what onions they are using. We both had a mushroom Swiss burger. The mushroom was luke warm and oozed water out of it, so I left that as well. I would have complained, but not once did anyone come and ask us how the food was, even when they collected the plates and realised that my mushroom was left on the plate, when I'd ordered a mushroom burger, surely that must have rung some sort of alarm bell. We went to pay, again, nothing was said, so we left and will not return. I think they were afraid to ask how our meal was as they knew what the answer would be. Please, go somewhere else, don't waste your money in this place. I would guess the girls who were running the place don't own it as none of them could care less.

With the current restrictions in place we struggled to find somewhere to eat with outdoors seating. After walking around, we came across this pub, walking in was so strange, it looks like a scene out of an apocalypse movie, with hand written signs telling us to walk to the end of the corredor, which by the way was super dark. We walked to the end and then up the stairs to find a cute little terrace, upon arrival we were greated by a lovely lady who got us a seat extremely fast. We ordered burger and chips, whilst the service was super friendly and extremely fast, we found the burgers very dry and the burger bap was far too dense! The salad inside the burger was super fresh, however the chips weren't great either. Ultimately the food was edible, if we were to ever return I would probably try something else off of the menu!

Service was slow to start with possibly due to shortage of staff. None the less it was nice to be able to sit in the sun having a drink with friends. We all decided to have lunch, ordered 2 pizzas and 2 burgers. We were surprised that there was no real gluten free option and the pizzas, although tasty, we thought were grossly overpriced for the size. My husband and I were incredibly disappointed with this place. Unfortunately I had no signal on my mobile so couldn’t read the reviews before we went in. Big mistake. Incredibly overpriced. I could have lived with that but what we had was substandard to say the least. Stale ciabatta rolls, dry roast beef in one and the crab sandwich in the other roll was tasteless and dry. We had a family lunch on a very wet and windy trip to Looe and chose The Golden Guinea as we all wanted a hot meal rather than a snack. There was a strict protocol to access the restaurant and the covid rules were explained well giving a feeling of safety and control. The menu had an acceptable choice and we all ordered different to meals. The food was tasty, served hot and really large portions making the pricing reasonable. All the staff were wearing high standard PPE and we could see the cleaning taking place between customers. With a one way system in place the smallish venue felt safe and organised. Overall an excellent meal with friendly staff and a team who had obviously taken their customer, and staff, safety seriously.

We also had the cheese nachos which had what can only be described as a pinch of cheese on top and nothing underneath. Nice flexibility there (even though she didn't have asparagus tips)! My wife declared her meal delicious. We probably had the worst seat in the place, right at the front window which kept us in a constant draft from the slightly wedged open door, but the warm service more than made up for it. Perhaps they could consider a screen?I'm sure it must be especially hard in these mad times to manage stock with decreased numbers allowed in, and I noted some of the less favourable reviews, but all I can go on is my own experience which could offer no complaints at all. My steak was well cooked, as were the sides and sundries, and everything was well presented, with little waiting.Would definitely return.

After reading some of the poorest reviews, I have to write this review. Understandably places have off days, but our visit today was far from that. Fresh, hot, good value food. After eating in many establishments in Looe I have to say this was one of the better ones. I would certainly return and would have no reservations about recommending to friends and family.

A very disappointing meal in a lovely old pub / restaurant. We ordered various meals but the worst one was the Beef roast dinner.I have been to Nepal and go on expeditions so I'm not a picky eater, but the food at this place is the worst I've had in years.Stay clear of the roast dinner especially!I also noticed another table who left pretty much all their food too so it wasn't just us who didn't like tge food at all the food tasted like it had been warmed up, possibly in a microwave and the yorkshire puddings was very rubbery and tasted of cardboard. The girl who served us i felt sorry for as it had no bearing on her service which was good.Definitely gone down in quality since we last visited 3 years ago.I personally would avoid eating here in the future.Maybe just sticking to cheap drinks is the way to visit?

We really enjoyed this place. Looked very quaint from the outside and certainly so inside but we chose to sit outside on the roof terrace which was a lovely setting, very modern and stylish with its own outdoor bar. I was a bit dubious having read some of the reviews on tripadvisor but we found the food and setting to be lovely. We had the large fish and chips, which was served in a box (because we were outside), we opted for no peas. The fish was beautifully cooked with light batter, the chips were tasty, (not your typical deep fried fish n chip shop style chips). The portion size was on the small side, I’m not a big eater, but was certainly more a medium sized portion imo. Was such a lovely setting we stayed for another drink. Staff were friendly and efficient. The kids really enjoyed their meals from the kids menu.

Absolutely awful! AVOID!!!!! Two of us ordered the cheeseburger and chips and to be quite honest, i've had better at McDonalds! The other two people from our party ordered the roast - it looked and tasted awful and looked like it had been microwaved! Oh and the Pepsi was flat and tasted awful so 3 of the 4 drinks we ordered wasn't touched. After complaining we wasn't charged for the roast dinners, but to be quite honest the meal and drinks wasn't worthy of anybodies money! Stay away!

Decided to give this Cozy restaurant a try despite the negative reviews I'd seen before coming to Looe. So glad we did, food was excellent value and staff were really friendly. Really tasty food and we'll be going back there are before the end of our holiday for sure

Wow! Fully Covid-19 aware, and excellent measures in place. From having our details taken for trace and contact, to all staff members wearing ppe, both my sister and I felt safe. This was my first venture out as I have very severe asthma, and I wasn't disappointed. The food was superb, and plentiful! Cannot wait to visit again. Very highly recommend!

Firstly the restaurant was superbly and safely set up for Covid. Staff were very friendly. Perhaps we made the wrong choice here but the crab linguine was bland and my wife’s swimming in oil at the bottom. Such a shame!

Looe has few places to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. The new beer garden is lovely. Really relaxing with very attentive pleasant staff with genuine happy smiles. The food in the garden is limited but fun...arrives in boxes and so far we have had very nice lunches there (we are local).

We sat in the garden bar which is a lovely setting and I would certainly recommend for a drink. The staff were lovely and attentive and couldn’t fault them. Unfortunately the food itself was extremely disappointing and overpriced. We ordered cheesy nachos to start and they arrived with only a handful of very plasticy cheese on them which wasn’t properly melted. I ordered a bacon cheese burger for my main. The bacon was so fatty it was inedible and the burger itself was very thin and gristly. Ended up leaving most of the burger. Gin glass also came with lipstick on it. Do not bother with this place for food- much better options elsewhere!!

How this place is called a restaurant when it is nothing more than cafe food. Terrible experience. Food was sent back by both of our parties. Chips were undercooked. Veg was frozen veg not fresh, steak was like a cheap beef steak full of gristle. Baguette was stale. Not for me Thankyou

We were drawn in by the tasty menu advertised and chose to sit outside. You wouldn't see it from the front but the garden terrace is spread across 3 floors built into the hills with its own bar outside. Table service, really lovely and friendly staff and good food. Really quirky and would definitely go back.

Where do I even start?!? So from the outside this place looked lovely, DO NOT BE FOOLED!! we ordered starters which were all deep fried in what tasted like old oil, horrendous. Our mains then followed, crab linguine had its own private swimming pool of oil and tasted like water. We had this taken off the bill as we refused to pay £15 for something so poorly made. 6oz burgers? More like Iceland’s own horse meat. Frozen food and prices like it’s a 5* restaurant. I’m still struggling to justify £94 on something that’s worse than a hungry horse. For your sake save yourself the visit and go elsewhere! I feel so sorry for the waitresses having to make up for the kitchens errors and the fact they were all so lovely and apologetic. ps- take the oil and deep fat frier off your chef!!

We visited 3 times in 2019 during our 2 week holiday, the food was fabulous...what an earth has gone wrong?? I ordered the roast, vegetables were shocking, yellow broccoli??, the rest boiled to within an inch of their lives, roast potatoes appear to have been deep fried, the beef itself was just awful. My husband ordered 12oz rump steak, which was actually really nice, unfortunately it came with a few frozen chips and peas, a little side salad wouldn’t have gone a miss... we both had starters as well, chicken goujons £8!!!! My husband had crab cake which again was ok.. a total of £49.90 for really poor food, we did mention to the waitress that it wasn’t as good as previous visits, she apologised and said it was still the same chef etc....I have no doubt that we will NOT be returning, unfortunately it wasn’t money well spent!!!!!! Never Again!!!!

Always visit the Golden Guinea when we go to Looe as we all love it, the new outside area was a really pleasant surprise and the lady that greeted us was really accommodating when I asked for table in the shade as it was a really hot day! Great food and great service as always

Very standard pub food unfortunately. Food arrived within minutes of ordering and suspect most of it was microwaved. Drinks didn’t come until after food and had to be asked for a second time. 4 mains, 3 alcoholic drinks and 1 apple juice £60+. Had a far superior, similar meal at the Coddy Shack for similar price. Staff were very pleasant though and no reflection on them.

Just arrived in Looe after a long journey and this was where we ended! So glad! Food was lovely served in boxes (COVID-19) but done in such a way to actually make it lovely! (I wouldn’t change - quite a novelty). We had crab cakes and scampi and then the heavens opened! Staff were great and made such a fuss of our Vizsla who dislikes the rain! And we sheltered in the bar. Lovely start to the hols despite the weather! The girls who served us were all so friendly- a credit to you! Hope to return!

We ate here for lunch as a family of four while visiting Looe, first of all the post-Covid details are very effective and reassuring, staff are helpful and pleasant, not overbearing at all. The food was delicious with a good choice on the children’s menu - our particularly fussy 12 year old said the chicken chunks were great. Only small gripe would be pathetic hand dryers in bathrooms otherwise would thoroughly recommend!

My only little criticism is that the table was really sticky when I sat down. But overall would really recommend!

Myself And wife stopped here for dinner while in Looe . We went for the crab cakes and chips . The crab cake bread crumb coating was very hard where it had been deep fried for too long , the chips were frozen type you get from supermarkets and no presentation or garnish. It doesn’t take long to make your own chips and put a salad garish on the plate . Staff were friendly and with a little more care and attention to the food this place could become a little gem .

We have been coming here for years with our family and have never had a bad meal and this time was no different we both had fish & chips and the grandchildren had sausage & chips All were cooked well except for my husband thought his fish lacked taste which he advised the girl who cleared the table at the end of the meal and we were quickly told this meal would be deducted from the bill We look forward to our return next year

Looks lovely from the outside and the lady at the door was really very helpful and explained the process for ensuring everyone was COVID secure. Well laid out inside with screens to ensure distance for customers. Helpful staff but unfortunately the food really was a let down. We opted for large fish and chips and scampi and chips. But the fish had a soggy batter and the chips looked like oven chips. Not what we were expecting and so felt let down by this.

Stopped for lunch on Sunday and had the roast dinner. The covid setup was very good and we were placed in a side room. No windows and smelled of fried good. The Sunday lunch wasn’t great and the roast potatoes had been fried and were full of grease inside. Meat was tough. Others in party had baguettes which came with chips but were very dry.

This was disappointing - of all the meals we’ve had during our stay this was the worst. Boards outside looked appealing and managed to get table without booking. Avoid the crab linguine- dry and with bits of crab shell. Someone in next table also stated had shell and crunchy bits in!! Steak didn’t come with veg or salad, cheeseburger came with no cheese! Crab cakes were ok, deep fried. Didn’t have to pay for the linguine which was appreciated. Would not recommend

Despite all the restrictions we enquired if this pub had outside eating area + spaces and very surprised they could accommodate as a walk in. The host was delightful, very conscientious of restrictions and took us through. Initially we were apprehensive about going outside as it went upstairs. However what a hidden gem this outside area is. Lots of tables, cracking views over the rooftops of Looe and the restrictive food menu and outside bar was brilliant. Fantastic find!
