Had food tonight and the standard of food was generally very good but the whole experience was let down massively by the lack of service. They bought the wrong drinks, didn't check on the table, we had to leave the table and find a waitress to ask if we could have a dessert, but the worst part was they were taking all of the Xmas decorations down in the room whilst we were eating, such a shane as the food was very nice, it felt as if the staff didn't really want us there.

Needs work to get up to standard of local competitors. If using vouchers, get your magnifying glass out to check the terms and conditions!!!!!

Why when I went into the Royal Oak last Friday 21st February at 1.30 pm for what I hoped was Lunch was I turned away? My husband and two friends from Devon, surely that isn't to late for lunch. My view is they like the locals going in but not people that they do not recognise. So disappointing we went to the George instead and had a very nice welcome and lunch.

The swan inn is a must visit if you are in the area. It makes for the perfect cozy evening by the fire in the winter months and has a gorgeous garden with stunning views in the summer. The pub is beautifully decorated and has a warm and friendly atmosphere, the staff are always wonderful and what’s more the food is outstanding. An all round win. We go out of our way to visit a few times a year, as we are not local but love it so much it’s worth a journey

Walked two hours to this pub to find it boarded up and closed. No notice on the website, and no update on Google. Even called and not so much as an answerphone message. Appalling.

Been and had food here this evening, I had the chefs special, which was the faggots, parley mash, garden peas and gravy.......wow! What beautiful amazing, mouth watering food! The faggots were absolutely out of this world, the mash was smooth and tasted great. The gravy!......well that's drinkable 😱 followed by lemon cake and cream 😋. Soooo yummy

Having visited The Ashcott Inn for food on previous occasions and had a very good experience, we booked a lunch to celebrate an 80th birthday. We told the birthday person how lovely it was at The Ashcott and recommended it as a place to celebrate. I was therefore a little shocked when we sat down (first sitting of the Sunday) to find a very grubby floor which definitely needed a vacuum, had this been the last sitting of the day I could understand, but surely you should clean each day. Who wants to sit down to lunch with a debris on the floor, I just hoped the birthday person hadn't noticed. We were told several of the meals on the menu weren't available as it was change over time for the menu but they did offer an alternative which to be fair was good. Some of our main meals were lovely, some were not so great, the fish on 2 of the dishes was quite cold, mine was not as cold but it was certainly not hot. There was little choice for the desserts, everyone seemed to want the Sticky Toffee Pudding but there wasn't any and again they did not have some of the ingredients and were substituted. When we mentioned the cold fish (unfortunately the birthday person did not say until it was too late to return it, as she did not want to make a fuss), but we did not receive much of an apology about the coldness of the food, just that they would pass it on to the chef. They knew it was a birthday celebration but we didn't get as much as a Happy Birthday. As we had previously highly recommended this place and the food, it was very disappointing that it hadn't lived up to previous visits, especially as it was a 'special age' birthday that turned out to be not very special at all. I did write to The Ashcott Inn to enquire as to what had happened on this occasion, especially with regard to the dirty floor but I did not receive a response.

Fish was dry and flakey, mushy peas was like playdow and chips overcooked.

Really disappointing. Pub really empty, but food, took an age to arrive. Plus it was freezing cold. Had to sit with our coats and scarves on, and the toilets were uncomfortably arctic. When mentioned the temperature, I was told it's because it's an old building that looses it's temperature, and because it was not busy it was too expensive to heat. For the cost of the meal, which was nothing special, plus the wait and discomfort of cold it was a really unsatisfying experience. We wouldn't visit again.

The only reason to buy food in restaurants is to taste something you usually don't prep at home or enjoy a good value meal. Unfortunately this establishment doesn't offer either. Service is slow, management and staff often have poor attitudes during peak times. Eating areas are often left uncleared before new customers are seated. Clear indicator of poor organisation skill from your management team. Atmosphere?! It's as alive as an 80 year old Bingo game at a washed up community hall. Probably for the best I suppose given the food quality. I'm shocked how rapidly this place has declined in such little time. Used to enjoy your coffee, now I stay clear from a fear of food poisoning.

Good job we booked. Nice to see a local Pub doing so well. Visiting for the weekend we had a Sunday lunch which was very good. The staff were accommodating and very friendly. The need was very well cooked and the roasties were much. Only minor point is that we only got one half of a carrot and half a parsnip - could have done with a bit more veg. I had the apple crumble and my wife had banoffee pie - both were excellent. Well done chef. We shall definitely be back at some point.
