White Hart in Exeter

Food & service was excellent. Late vacation of our reserved table but we got it eventually (didn't adversely effect our visit). New member of staff was very friendly although still quite inexperienced but we all had to learn our jobs initially. Will definitely visit again.

Staff were amazing! We were staying for our anniversary and doing some Christmas shopping. The room was clean, food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Couldn't ask for a better stay. Big thank you to Sally, Amy and Louise. They were brilliant, helping with local knowledge and doing everything with a smile 😃.

We booked a table for my 9 year olds birthday, 4 girls myself and my husband. It really was an absolute pleasure. The staff were AMAZING and really made us feel welcome. We use to come a lot but having moved recently don’t come into town as often but I can honestly say when we do we will be back again. The food was excellent value for money and drinks fresh with lovely wine. My daughter was made a special desert too. I’m sorry I missed getting the lovely ladies name who mainly served us but I want to say thank you. The whole team was fab On a very slight negative sorry, I really feel the ladies loos could do with some up keep! But this is not a reflection on the staff

Disappointing , not all menu items available. Similar experiences on previous visit. Bar staff abrupt and less than professional ( eating crisps whilst serving customers) Food not as described in menu Hunters chicken was simply chicken and bacon .certainly not smothered in BBQ sauce and cheese . There is far better across the road in Weathespoons at a reasonable price .

Last minute booking which was easy to do on phone automated Staff very helpful and friendly. Lovely atmosphere sat in the barside and the food was great. We ordered fish and chips and Gammon and chips. Will be going back soon. Thanks

Do not go if you are wanting a Sunday roast!!! Because they won’t have any and won’t tell you at the time of booking. I called ahead and made booking for Sunday roast and there was no indication they didn’t have Sunday roasts and nothing on their website to say they had run out. Upon arrival the pub was empty, we had to search around for any member of staff. They were unaware of our booking and had no table prepared, and as we were going to sit down the person serving us offhandedly said they had run out of all roasts. Not a single one at 4:30 on a sunday, when the whole restaurant was empty. Can certainly tell why now

Food took over an hour to come out, was warm but not hot, the bar staff spent more time on their phone... toilets were dirty... used to love coming to the White heart.

Great old building with decent beers & lots of little nooks if you'd like a bit of privacy.

Very old building across the road from Georges meeting house, a weatherspoons, which is probably why it was quiet. Nice outdoor space to sit in the sunshine, a pint of Marston old empire, strong beer, went down very nicely.

Will not be came back every again. Food took 45 min. Awful customer service. Asked twice for pudding we had ordered same time as food and still took 20 min. Had to get extra parking cause everything took so long. No one asked if everything was alright with food. We cleared our own plates cause no one came near us after food was dropped off. Table was cramped and awful. Staff didn’t seem happy or want to be there. Really awful experience.

Arrived late due to train, were very accommodating with a late check-in time. Nice clean hotel with a very good looking pub and restaurant area. Room easy to find. Room on smaller size but expected due to low price. Uncomfortable bed, but excellent bath/shower facilities and includes all basic amenities. Wish I could have arrived sooner as the food menu looked enticing. Easy check out, as keys were just dropped in to desk. Helpful and friendly staff made me feel comfortable and at home.

Food very disappointing, menu looks like a common corporate selection instead of anything unique. Ordered a tubs melt but the bread was really bad. Ditto with hamburger bun. They should at least toast them.

Such a beautiful pub, didn’t stay in the hotel but we had lunch and sat in the secret garden. The nachos were amazing and the staff very friendly, the aesthetic is perfect for an old fashioned English pub. Awful service, really slow we ended up getting a full refund after waiting 1 hour and 20 minutes for food that never arrived despite being told 40 minutes previously that it was being dished up. Children’s food all came at out a different times and 1 plate was cold. Paid for parking and the sign clearly says we can reclaim the cost towards a purchase at the bar - however it didn’t include drinks - so the sign is mid-leading. Wouldn’t recommend.

We had an appalling lunchtime experience yesterday (13.9.24). The lasagne was over cooked and burnt around the edges. The garlic bread pieces were rock hard due to being overheated. The service was very slow with a very long wait for food to arrive. The French barman was apologetic and was doing his very best but clearly understaffed. Fortunately it did not spoil our day out in Exeter, but we will not be coming to the White Hart again.

✨️came here for lunch on a Friday with some colleagues from work. Had the hunters chicken and the jam sponge pudding on the lunchtime menu absolutely delicious 😋 would definitely recommend the lunchtime menu as with a soft drink it came to about £12 which is bargain ! Ladies who served us were really nice and friendly. It's a proper old old pub which is great, perhaps haunted ?! 👻 definitely come here for proper pub grub 🍲🍮

I had a pleasant one-night stay at the hotel. The rooms were of a good size and the bathrooms were spacious. The restaurant and bar offered a good selection of food and drinks at reasonable prices. The food was delicious and the service was prompt. There was ample parking space available, although there was an additional charge of £5 per night.

Popped in for a drink with my dog yesterday and it was great. Really friendly.

We had slight difficulty on checking in as we asked to change rooms but Louise was really helpful and we were made comfortable and given a free drink while we waited. Conveniently located with a cheap car park and easy access to the city. The Cathedral is a few minutes walk away. We'll be going back.

The white hart is mow my favourite pub to visit in Exeter and I will definitely be back :)

Such good value for money. Its really close to the Quayside and the City center (5 minute walk to either). The parking is only £5 and the rooms are clean and have been really nicely updated recently. The staff were brilliant really quick and helpful and the breakfast was delicious. Cant fault it and i would have expected a much larger bill for the service we received. I've stayed a few times and its been great every time

It's a lovely place to stay, central location, good breakfast, nice staff, secret garden.

Loved the friendliness of staff and duty managers Loved the history of the place, but sad that it wasn't reflected in our functional but comfy room. Your beds were very comfy and although we could have done with a chest of drawers, the wardrobe was fine for our 2 night stay. You kindly provided us with a chair on request. Apart from the fire alarm going off at 2.10am, we slept well. We enjoyed our breakfasts and the evening meal we had. You are fantastic value for a town centre hotel. Good value parking too. Enjoyed our stay so much, we have already booked again for November for 3 nights. Thank you Brian & Kayleigh ( hope I've spelled your names ok).

I have just recently moved to Exeter and my friend and I came to check out the White Hart. We walked in past the barmaid and stood waiting for at least 5 minutes. Other people arrived. When the barmaid deigned to serve she shouted from the till end of the bar 'whose next please '. When I said we were first she stood at the opposite end to us and shouted what did we want. Her whole manner was rude and unprofessional. She had long blind hair and a terrible attitude. Such a shame because I love the style if the pub

I have been a few times over the past few weeks , I work near by , so pop in for food and drinks after work , it really seems to have got better and better , the service has been second to none , always looked after and seen to quickly and efficiently, the manager (I think his name is Bryan? ) is an asset to the business, we see him looking after everyone and making sure that we, and everyone else, are happy and have what we need , we will continue to visit, as it really does make a difference to have such a lovely team looking after us.

Popped in for a beer and a bite to eat whilst visiting some old friends in Exeter. Beautiful and extremely clean pub, cracking pint of moretti. You can definitely tell the pub is well cared for. Bryan and his team were fantastic and very accommodating. Was also nice to see several dogs around, it's always nice to see a dog friendly pub. Will definitely return when I'm next back in Exeter 😊

Came here for a work meeting. The function room was a good size and perfect for work meetings. The food was great and the host was accommodating. Recomend this place for food/drinks and anything work gathering related :)

Weather was too unpredictable to sit in the courtyard as we would do normally but plenty of space inside for the 5 of us. Friendly and attentive bar staff a big plus as was the food. Only negative would be only one hand pull beer on.

We had two lovely meals which were served quickly & efficiently. Our only gripe was we were too late to order dessert 10 minutes after 9. We ate at about 8p.m no one came to check if we were OK or clear the plates, we probably would have ordered dessert sooner had this have happened. This is in no way meant as a complaint & we will definately eat at the White Heart again. Thank you.

This hasn't quite gotten back to the place it used to be for food. Staff are pleasant and helpful, and the place is full of character, pity about the food.

Nice place. Lots of rooms so that there are different spaces and atmospheres for whatever you're in the pub for. Mozzarella bites are great.

Was a little disappointed when we arrived for our booking to be told you had a power cut across the city and then had to go and get cash. Came back with cash. Sat down to order a drink to find out we could of just ordered on the app. So no need for cash. But went to bar and ordered food to use up cash. Sat for 40 minutes waiting for food. When your serving staff asked us what we had ordered. She then went to check at bar. Our order was taken. But because it was placed at same time someone was remotely updating system our order never made it to kitchen. So she apologised and went straight to kitchen. So further 15 min wait. I think manager came over and again said sorry and offered us a free drink. Which we excepted. When the food arrived the manager came over again and said to see him at the end for a refund on food. However we didn't go to bar after meal. As both myself and partner were happy with the apologise from both staff and the free drink. Plus the food was good when it arrived. Overall I think the staff did an amazing job all things considered and I felt they really cared about their customers We will be back again for food in the future. Thanks

Building was beautiful, staff were amazing helpful, cleanliness was perfect. Few minor repair issues but nothing serious .. I do think marston's should invest more money into this hotel as it has a lot potential. I spoke with management and housekeeping staff, bar staff.. All of which, well informed and helpful... I loved the place, used to visit the bar when I lived in exeter... I'm aware that some peoples opinions may not be as favorable for the white hart but the world is also full of over sensative Karen's. I love my stay, it's staff, it's food everything and I was professional chef for 25 years who was near impossible to please.

Lunch for 7 ladies on a recent Saturday. We made use of the 30% off main courses offer. Sally kindly seated us in the bar on the Hotel Reception side of the Hotel, which was a pleasant change. She also took our order at the table (usually we have to order at the bar). The food & service was good & we all enjoyed our meal & drinks. I would just ask for the bar to stock a zero apple cider. Apparently zero beer is available, so why discriminate against cider drinkers? I note you offer a good range of alcoholic ciders.......Despite this, we will be back. Thank you! 😊

Food and service good. But we were charged £13.75 for a meal package advertised in writing as £12.75. When we queried this, we were told that the price had gone up "in the last day or so". Sorry, but that is not good enough.

Have been a regular at The White Hart since meeting a tinder date here at the end of 2023. Although the date was a bit rogue, Sally was super great, lovely and service was spot on. Infact, I thank Sally for the success of my tinder date as her absolute spot on chat made my conversation with said date partially more manageable.. I have continued to come back to The White Hart purely because when I walk though the door, Sally knows exactly what I want before I do! This girl needs a raise! And an invite to the wedding!

Attended a private function (March 2024). The function room and adjoining dining room were just the thing for us. Our experience was enhanced by the great service from the team. Thank you Tom, Sally and Maisie; not forgetting Gemma who is the most hard working Manager/Receptionist and Host I’ve known. Well done all 👏🏻👍🏻

The manager at this wonderful old inn runs a tight ship. From the moment I arrived I felt well look after by all the staff, with attention to detail with regards to my room and breakfast. If you love historical buildings with traditional service with mod cons I can highly recommend The White Hart.

We loved the hotel and had an extremely good deal. The room was un the old part and could have been better but for the price it was worth it. Fascinating place, staff very helpful, good food and fair prices. A great weekend.

I stayed on 14th and liked it so much I returned for another night last night, 19th February. Very welcoming, efficient and friendly staff and, despite the furniture and furnishings being tired in the comparatively modern extensions and additions to the original Olde Worlde building, I wouldn't rush to do it up. Well, of course, a refurbishment would be great but the place charmed me as it is. It's excellent value for money, especially compared with others in Exeter (I've stayed at them all over the last few years). At The White Hart Inn, the beds are comfy, with quality bedding, copious hot water, powerful shower and deep bath (depending on your room). They serve good food - generous portions - and there's a well-stocked bar, with a range of lagers and beer from the cask. The ambience is old meets new but 'Cosy and homely' sums it all up. I look forward to a regular stop-over. In addition, the location is perfect for exploring all Exeter has to offer, Cathedral and The Close, some of the best retail therapy all nearby and you can walk down to Exeter Quay, just 10 minutes away, to take a leisurely walk, power-walk, run, kayak, canoe, or cycle alongside Haven Banks, River Exe / Exeter Ship Canal south to Double Locks or further to The Turf. What a great place! Highly recommended!

No staff, left waiting 40 minutes for a peppercorn sauce with a steak that was tougher than a beer mat, waited a further 50 minute for it to be replaced in the meantime everyone else had eaten, no one checked on us we had to find someine. We where give a free drink and 10% off the bill which was a joke as we where overcharged

This was our 3d visit. Unfortunately this time the service was unpleasant, my gammon was burnt, it was very dry. My wine was different to what I asked for. When the waitress brought our cutlery there were no serviettes. We were also given your Sunday menu. Overall we don't want to return to this place ever again.

Good service one mistake was quickly resolved but a staff member was moaning at one member of staff about the mistake then complaing to another made the visit uncomfortable but apart from that was a lovely place good food

Attended an engagement party in one of the private function rooms. The room was amazing. It had lots of character, space, and was perfect for the occasion. The buffet food was lovely and there was plenty of it. The bar staff were friendly and very accommodating.

I booked this hotel for two weeks, inspired my the amazing history. First time i walked through the main entrance, i was impressed -so very pretty and quiaint! Exactly what i had hoped for. My room was clean, smelled fresh and well aired. It was warm and bed was comfy. Nights were quiet and undisturbed. Staff was very kind and pleasant. Im am going to book again
