Nice beer garden, lots of space inside, mixed crowd, unfortunately there was nothing to eat. Very friendly staff.

Lovely pub with different kinds of area to sit in or garden front and back. Designated darts room ten points right there.

Was visiting this pub for a couple of drinks with some friends and decided to order some hot food. I had the burger and chips in a basket, it was great value and was an excellent burger! Chips were great as well. For the cost it was superb. Several pool tables and darts board in the pub, a couple of screens dotted around for the football. Highly recommend!

Popped in one Saturday with the wife. Lovely friendly staff and regulars. Definitely be going here again. Even managed to throw a few arrows too!

Quiet pub but friendly staff and clientele

Popped in today for a quick lunchtime drink and ordered a pint of Tim Taylor’s Landlord. I appeared to be one of the first customers of the day and was impressed when the barman pulled off some beer before serving me an excellent pint. The interior was comfortable with many period features. Would definitely recommend this pub for drinking in.

First time drink. Bar man friendly enough. Made the mistake of sitting outside. Ignoring the very busy road which can't be helped its customer base is very 'spit and sawdust' (literally for the former). Ignoring the constant use of the f and c word by many of the customers, two in particular spent their time continually spitting in between vaping. Decided one drink was enough.

Unbelievably rude and aggressive barmaid who screamed and shouted at me for no reason whatsoever. Was planning on taking my family for lunch, but obviously decided not to. If you value your peace of mind, please never go near this pub.

Yet another great afternoon was spent at the Royal Oak ah well Time for bed said Zebedee!

I went in with my adult daughter. Ordered a pint of cider shandy. When I queried why he was charging the same amount for a shandy as a full pint of cider I was told that was the price and to take it up with the landlord if I didn’t like it! Will not be going back.

The staff are really friendly and welcoming. They go out of their way to help my blind friend and the rest of us visually impaired people. Great selection of drinks and it's always such a nice atmosphere

Bang in the in the middle of all the "action" in Heavitree. This is my favourite place to drink as its old school, proper pub. Good beers on tap and friendly staff, patrons.

Cosy pub - limited selection of largers but wider selection of all other drinks. They have a sheltered garden too. Pub seems to be the local's choice, with very few students around. Atmosphere isn't very great and can be a bit on the grotty side, but had a good time with friends.

Relaxing pub, served by friendly staff. Inside & outside seating areas - a great place to stop off for a pint of draught ice cold Pepsi!

We went to my father in law’s internment this afternoon and the family went to the Royal Oak Inn Fore st, Heavitree, Exeter. They put on a great spread of food for us. Very friendly atmosphere and staff. Thank you

Nice pub nice people good service.went on a Friday so not much of a food menu. It's aimed at the builders and workers on a Friday so there is a very limited menu but do remember that you will have to put up with a lot of swearing and builders talk don't bring your kids as far as the rest of the week is concerned I'm sure that it's good we had to leave because of the language I for one get very upset when people can see that you have children with you and they still behave as there on a building site

Recently called into the Royal Oak to meet my brother and have lunch on my way back to Surrey. The food on offer was plentiful and of the traditional British pub variety. I opted for the gammon egg and chips and was thankful that I did. A generous portion cooked to perfection. The general atmosphere is very genial with lots of “banter” between bar staff and regular customers, At the time of my visit the joking seemed to revolve around a mistake that had been made during one of the weekly quizzes, all very loud, good natured and amusing. This is a real “local” and in many ways a quintessentially English pub serving a wide variety of real ales. Highly recommend it both as a pup and lunch venue.

A friendly pub, well populated by 'locals'. Serves a good selection of 'real' ales with a menu of 'pub lunches' - ham, egg & chips was my meal of choice on this the latest of my visits and was excellent both in terms of quality & value for money. Sunday roasts are in the same category of value-for-money.

Food was appalling and the way the workers spoke to the customers was awful. Shouting at a customer is not a way to deal with a small situation. Do not advise going here they will just be horrible and can go to a better pub up the road for cheaper and better quality

After visiting this public house several time ... the atmosphere quiet at time and jolly with laughter at other times... I would say the Managment and staff are extremely pleasant and would do anything they could to make your visit a pleasurable one..

Now accepting bank cards which helps. Nice environment, would recommend.

The royal oak is one of our local pubs and we have often stopped for a drink ,a nice and cosy pub ,so we decided to have a pub lunch to celebrate a friends birthday. The menu hasn't much choice and my husband is vegetarian only one item for him or ploughman's the special board was just a repeat of the standard menu (as in no specials) I ordered fish and chips which was soggy and taste less our freind has sausage and bubble and squeak but not bubble and squeak just mash potato and my husband ended up have gammon egg and chips (minus the gammon as hes a vegetarian ) over all the meals were very disappointing indeed .

A nice range of local, well kept real, ales, friendly staff, nice and warm last night in the cold weather, but there's searing outdoors when it's nice.

I have driven passed the Royal Oak thousands of times but decided to pop in for a quick lunch - greeted by the landlord - Gareth - a friendly, charming Welsh man Ordered Fish and Chips and a Cheese ploughmans and both were delivered in good time They were well presented and delicious I chose a real ale which was perfectly served A great local pub with a big welcome Thank you Please note - it does appear that food is only served during lunch time *

Excellent meal 8 of us celebrating a birthday.

Walked 1 mile from Exceter centre to EAT here this evening. Sadly was not clear that FOOD is NOT served evenings. 😞☹ Only lunchtime. No other English food served on this road!

Popped in for lunch today, Jail Ale was perfect, had a burger which was also perfect. Service was great. Will re-visit.

Everyone gets on together in here, it's like a little community. I walked in alone and drank a few pints with 7 others including the new landlord. I would recommend to a friend and I shall definitely return. Rob behind the bar could put a smile on anyone's face.

Nice place, a piece of Exeter even. But it can feel 'clicky' at times - i have moved now so have a new local but i would urge anyone to be wary. Enjoying a nice pint seems to have more risks than normal these days in what is a dying trade anyway. Nice staff, food - choice of drinks and building but i would only visit during the day if at all now. I feel the outside smoking area has attracted some undesirables, at nearly 70 years old if i want to be called profanity just for walking to the pub then it just is not worth it. Shame.I will, and have, gone elsewhere.No disrespect to any smokers, the area is just not managed enough.
