We actually had breakfast, lunch and dinner during a 3-day stay in the hotel. All of our meals were great, consistently of higher quality then your average dining pub. The staff were all friendly and helpful and dealt appropriately with my allergy. The range of food suited carnivores and vegetarians alike. The drink selection also kept us and our guests happy.

We stayed at the Mill on Exe for a short break. The room was great; lovely comfortable large bed and every additional extra you could need, cleaned to a high standard too. The staff were lovely and friendly, nothing was too much trouble at all. The food was absolutely delicious; a varied breakfast choice and we enjoyed an evening meal. There are ample parking spaces for hotel guests as well. The hotel is situated within walking distance of city centre and also river setting. We will definitely be returning again, we loved it!

Great night out, great staff, lovely food. The menu was well chosen from some standard pub classics and some items that are not normally on average pub menus. So they cater for all tastes and do it well.

Such a shame, as we were really looking forward to eating here. My boyfriend’s burger was dry, overcooked and tasteless. He told the waitress and she apologised, said she’d take it off the bill and then just left it on the table. Service was ok from the other waiter, but wouldn’t say either of them were great. The one saving grace was the lobster mussels which were delicious. But probably wouldn’t visit again.

Best Plated Roast in Exeter..... Maybe even Devon! My family and I went to the Mill on the Exe for a Sunday roast. It was a stormy weekend and we were sat overlooking the Wier. It was a lovely sight made all the better, by hands down the best plated Sunday roast dinner, we've all had. I had beef it was cooked to perfection - I don't tend to choose beef for a roast either as most places don't cook it well. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and the service was brilliant. No long waiting times for our food either.

2nd meal in 4 days and even more disappointed than the first visit. the Mussels sauce is tasteless, the Aubergine/coconut rice dish was just a slop - sent it back. The setting is amazing and the staff both friendly and helpful, but there seems to be no consistency. Why do they not offer fresh fish and chicken? Any good chef could do this surely? So much cook is fried or cooked from frozen. The website states vegetarian and vegan friendly - that is at best a little creative when you look at the menu. I really hope they offer a few more fresh options in the future - there are several similar comments, and even the AI summary gives them a clear picture of what many people think. Come on guys - turn this into a dream setting and stop relying on your fantastic position next to the river!

Very patronising duty manager Sarah and unhelpful when staff are watching the football on the screens but muting the volume on pretence it’s disturbing upstairs customers. Don’t advertise live sports if you have such poor customer service for being able to listen to the football. Staff arguing the point when stood watching the football isn’t professional at all. Should be working and not watching football and arguing about if we can hear and then patronising to ask if we want subtitles ?! Really poor attitude Kitchen door on magnetic fire lock allows sticking chip far to stink out lower area, music from kitchen heard over bar area. Advise against advertising live sports if this is your approach to showing live sports

The simplicity burger was not available but the beetroot burger replacement was excellent though shame it came with fries and not the chunky chips that came with the fish. Not cheap but an excellent meal, £65 for 3 including drinks. Location on the Exe looks nice though it was dark, wet & cold out on a January evening. My husband and I came for Christmas lunch and, I have to say, we were left a little disappointed with our food. The service and location were faultless, everyone was so friendly and welcoming and we got a free drink and fresh bread on arrival which was a very nice surprise! However, the mushroom ravioli was not quite what we expected. It was more of a watery soup with two quite stodgy pasta slices. Perhaps I misunderstood the menu but it was very bland and just not great sadly. The mains were much better, the beef wellington, however, was far too peppery it was rather overwhelming and I couldn’t finish it. It was also not really what I would class a beef wellington, it was more of a sirloin steak slice wrapped in pastry. Again, the meat and pastry were lovely, just too peppery and again not what I was expecting. Pudding was also quite disappointing unfortunately. My husband’s rice pudding was very dry and he mentioned the rice itself was still crunchy, but the taste itself wasn’t bad at all. My dark chocolate torte was very nice, my only complaint is that they forgot the vanilla ice cream that was mentioned on the menu, the richness of that pudding really needed the ice cream to accompany but still very nice. For £180 we definitely expected everything to be included! As it was Christmas and the staff were so lovely (and of course very busy) we didn’t want to make a fuss and add any additional stress. We have visited Mill on the Exe numerous times and have always been very happy with the food and service so we will certainly be returning, just we’re having an off day I suppose!

There were some issues with waiting times despite pre ordering, the temperature of the dishes and other such things but I will say that despite all this we had a wonderful time together - we don't see each other much with our busy lives so the gathering of friends of 25+ years is a very special time. Our waitress in particular was absolutely amazing (forgive us, we can't recall her name) but she was great fun, super friendly, very attentive and just wonderful customer service the whole time. Food Hygiene Concerns The Singapore Crab Fries side dish tasted fine although I couldn’t finish the dish. I became progressively ill throughout the afternoon and evening with cramping stomach pain and nausea . I became very sick and vomited several times and continued to experience cramping stomach pains, nausea, freezing cold with a headache for the rest of the night. These symptoms are consistent with food poisoning . My partner contacted the pub in the evening to alert them and to suggest that they don’t serve anymore crab. The person who answered said they’d checked the date on the crab and it was in date. This information was given without the person leaving the call to check the date on the crab. This leads me to conclude that there may have been other complaints for her to have checked the date prior to receiving the phone call. The call recipient stated that the crab meat was in date because she had checked it herself and that I ‘couldn’t possibly be ill from eating it as it’s served cold’. Her attitude was dismissive. I am concerned that she / the kitchen staff have a poor understanding of the storage and preparation of foods that need to be treated with extra care to make sure they are safe to eat. There was no real assurance and I am concerned regarding: *Possible bacteria in the kitchen *Whether the crab is from a reputable supplier * is the pub confident that the crab is caught and handled safely? *Was the crab prepared by someone with specialist knowledge? Disappointed with this response, as a consumer and as an almost lifelong customer of this pub.

Ok. We went here for Sunday lunch today and I have to say, the staff and service were excellent but I was absolutely appalled at the amount of food I got for a roast lunch for £21!!! This is not a small amount of money for a communal lunch not a bespoke meal. I do NOT need quantity over quality and prefer the latter but my plate was less than half full when it arrived (a normal sized plate) I had two half slices of beef, one small floret of broccoli, one quarter parsnip, half a carrot, a small bit of cauliflower cheese and some scrapings of cabbage. The food was quite nice, not outstanding but it was ridiculous. I am not a large man. I am not a greedy man. But I expect to leave here feeling like I have been fed properly especially for £21 for what is a fairly well trodden path of a Sunday lunch. I am really, really, really disappointed and if they are struggling to make money with what they charged me then it is clear, they will not be in business for much longer. What a fall from grace in my eyes!

We had a room over looking the beer garden and river which was clean, comfortable and well decorated. Breakfast was great, one of the best full English breakfasts I've eaten, cooked to order with quality bacon and sausages. My wife had the smashed avocado which was also excellent. The two staff were also brilliant, friendly and efficient. Highly recommended as an alternative choice to the big hotels in the area.

Nice location, reasonable choice of gluten free options, though we were disappointed they had run out of fish and chips.

Really awesome restaurant with great food and staff. Situated on the banks of the river Exe with a lovely view, it is a really comfortable space with a really good menu.

Location is great, beautiful views from the restaurant and the gardens of the Quay. The staff are more than helpful and friendly Prices are average for Exeter and the location. Unfortunately they could do with a bigger car park as if busy that's a nightmare and parking is a long way to walk if full. Unfortunately, this time round the prawn and squid linguini was far too oily I couldn't eat it, couldn't taste flavour only oil which was a shame and the gammon was far too salty more than what gammon should be. Apart from this the burgers were lovely would have been better with something more than just chips pm the side. Hopefully next time will be better because normally they are fab 👌

Really friendly staff and we had a great evening competing in their regular quiz which is held on Thursday evenings. The kitchen was closed in January but is now open.

Needs work to get up to standard of local competitors. If using vouchers, get your magnifying glass out to check the terms and conditions!!!!!

Fish was ok, batter very poor. The chips were cold and soggy, yet somehow undercooked. Gravy was cold and had no seasoning.
