My friend and I went for a meal and were very disappointed with the service. We asked the man with a mustache for drinks and he said one second. We asked him again after a couple of minutes and he refused to serve us despite having told us he would be right with us. He then proceeded to be on his phone not helping any of the staff for the next 20 mins. I've worked in hospitality for 10 years and I know this isn't acceptable. Luckily one of the women working there picked up his slack and was very helpful.

We had a great stay at the Mill on the Exe, two nights B&B in a River View room plus dinner on both nights. Our room was lovely, comfortable and with everything you need for a short stay. The pub, restaurant and garden areas are lovely with plenty of tables in a variety of settings. Food was good and the service was welcoming, friendly and efficient. There's not much information on their website about guest parking, but it turns out there's a dedicated space on the other side of the pub from the main car park (which can get very busy) with enough spaces for all the rooms, the sign is just not that obvious from the main road.

It’s a great pub in a great location. Lovely views from the garden and excellent beers. Proper Job is definitely in my top ten all time favourites. One small issue is that people queue at the bar like they’re at a post office. I think we should trust the excellent staff and stand at the bar in the traditional way. Still, it’s a lovely pub.

Dropped in for an early evening meal on an overnight stay in Exeter city centre; The Mill was just a 5 minute walk from our hotel. We had pre-booked a table and the online process was seamless. On arrival we were greeted and served by Holly who was quite charming-perfectly spoken and attentive without being at all intrusive. The Mill has a lovely setting on the bank of the Exe river with extensive outside and indoor seating. Given the fine weather at the time of our visit the outside areas were pleasantly busy but not overcrowded. The table service was excellent and our meals were well presented and well cooked. Good value and wholly recommended.

Three of us stopped in for dinner last Friday, the serving staff were friendly and attentive (generally). We ordered the chicken tikka masala - beautifully presented and very tasty and a good portion. The Butternut squash tagine - totally delicious selection of flavours well presented, reasonable portion but a cold plate. The fish and chips - a good portion with great chunky chips and a lovely piece of fish in a crisp batter but the "crushed minted peas" were very dry. Two of our party had sweet which was where the service standard failed as it was dumped on the table with a scowl.

We stayed over night… This is a very popular pub, it was lovely sitting by the river, having a drink in the sunshine. The room - the room was tastefully decorated, great view of the river, however it did have a Muskie smell so we opened the window which helped. For the price, the TV was very small. The design of the shower was poor on several practical points: 1. It only had a rain fall shower, meaning it was difficult to wash all parts of the body 2a. To control the shower like start, stop, hot, cold… you can’t use the control without getting wet meaning if it’s too hot, it’s easy to burn yourself 2b. If you turn the shower on while you are standing out of the bath, water goes every where, as you can’t control the shower standing out of the bath as you have to fold up the shower screen completely up. The location of the reception desk, was strange, and wasn’t manned, while we waited for someone, we did feel a little awkward. Certain recommend it’s moved to a more logical position The food - the food was nice, but very expensive, dinner was better then breakfast. Serving people were friend, but at times a little slow. Car parks - the card park for residents was easy to find a parking spot, however the main visitor car parks gets very busy. Parking - parking

The inside interior is nicely designed and log burner with comfil arm chairs and sofas are a nice touch. 2nd meal in 4 days and even more disappointed than the first visit. the Mussels sauce is tasteless, the Aubergine/coconut rice dish was just a slop - sent it back. The setting is amazing and the staff both friendly and helpful, but there seems to be no consistency. Why do they not offer fresh fish and chicken? Any good chef could do this surely? So much cook is fried or cooked from frozen. The website states vegetarian and vegan friendly - that is at best a little creative when you look at the menu. I really hope they offer a few more fresh options in the future - there are several similar comments, and even the AI summary gives them a clear picture of what many people think. Come on guys - turn this into a dream setting and stop relying on your fantastic position next to the river!

My husband and I came for Christmas lunch and, I have to say, we were left a little disappointed with our food. The service and location were faultless, everyone was so friendly and welcoming and we got a free drink and fresh bread on arrival which was a very nice surprise! However, the mushroom ravioli was not quite what we expected. It was more of a watery soup with two quite stodgy pasta slices. Perhaps I misunderstood the menu but it was very bland and just not great sadly. The mains were much better, the beef wellington, however, was far too peppery it was rather overwhelming and I couldn’t finish it. It was also not really what I would class a beef wellington, it was more of a sirloin steak slice wrapped in pastry. Again, the meat and pastry were lovely, just too peppery and again not what I was expecting. Pudding was also quite disappointing unfortunately. My husband’s rice pudding was very dry and he mentioned the rice itself was still crunchy, but the taste itself wasn’t bad at all. My dark chocolate torte was very nice, my only complaint is that they forgot the vanilla ice cream that was mentioned on the menu, the richness of that pudding really needed the ice cream to accompany but still very nice. For £180 we definitely expected everything to be included! As it was Christmas and the staff were so lovely (and of course very busy) we didn’t want to make a fuss and add any additional stress. We have visited Mill on the Exe numerous times and have always been very happy with the food and service so we will certainly be returning, just we’re having an off day I suppose!

This is a great local pub on the edge of Exeter town centre, everyone is made welcome, I would say it's Exeter's answer to Cheers the TV bar. I try to visit each time I am in Exeter as there's 4 excellent hand pulled ales. The toilets are clean which is always a good indicator of how well a pub is managed

Had a yummy crab burger and fries followed by pear frangipani. We had to go up and down to the bar to order although you can order through the app if you can get it to work, which I couldn't as I didn't have strong enough signal. The staff were lovely, helpful and friendly. Very traditional pub which was refreshing.
