Support a lovely independent pub where customer service, individuality and quality is such a refreshing change from the larger chain style pubs. I dined alone and was made to feel very welcome by the staff. The menu is varied along with a specials board so took ages to choose. Plummeted for the Homemade but restaurant style quality Fish Pie which was packed with seafood, topped with a gorgeous gratinated mash, flavourful and fresh vegetables cooked to perfection. Topped off with the brioche bread and butter pudding, scrumptious! Only regret is that it’s too far away from home but my waistline will thank me for that !!! Thanks again for a lovely dinner and to all the staff for their outstanding service. Recommended by Old Manor House, situated across the road from the pub, which is also a fabulous place to stay if you require a quality B&B.

I popped in mid Sunday afternoon and had a couple of great pints of real ale served by really friendly staff. I then ordered the roast beef Sunday Roast. I was lucky enough to get one of the last few remaining and once it arrived I understood why it had been such a popular choice for the other visitors. The plate was visually impressive, as was the amount and the taste did not disappoint either. Every mouthful was a real treat. The beef was tender and tasty as was the large varied selection of veg. A real jem of a pub, and fab food too.

We live locally and on the spur of the moment decided we wanted to go for Sunday lunch. We arrived at 12:30 and although most of the tables were reserved and there was only one chef on they were happy to accommodate us. The food didn’t disappoint. I had the trio of pork and my other half had the chargrilled burger(which is a nice touch as not everyone fancies a roast dinner on a sunday) both were excellent quality and great size portions! Tasty and well seasoned veggies and cauliflower cheese with mine and wonderfully made burger and fries for my better half.there is always a good drink selection there which I like with real ale coming usually from the Bristol beer factory and otter ale on draft. One of the best meals you will get locally. Very dog friendly and also great if you are stopping by after walking crook peak with your four legged friend for a pint 🥰

We visited yesterday without booking for an early evening meal. To be fair the staff were accommodating, hospitable and friendly. Unfortunately the food we ordered was seriously underwhelming. Ordered two "Homemade" lasagne meals at £17 each. I was assured after enquiring and ordering that the lasagne meals were in actual fact "homemade". I specifically enquired as I have been misled at another pub before. It's unlikely that the meals were homemade in that they were underwhelming in terms of flavour and having a low meat content. The dishes were rather small too, not dissimilar to that of a ready meal / takeaway container size. After tasting the food I am convinced the meals were 'ready' meals. £34 for two ready meals is not good value for money. As we did not want to make a fuss we did not complain in person about the food and challenge the authenticity of the homemade lasagne. I can't comment on the other food there and perhaps it is okay. I am not encouraging the reader not to visit the pub I am encouraging the reader not to order the lasagne meal.

This has been our favourite pub for 15 years but I will not be returning . The prices have become so ridiculous that I just can't justify it . We have always liked the pub because the food is all home cooked and bar staff generally personable. Time before last a glass of Malbec had gone up to £9+ Which I thought was extortionate but last visit it was now over £10 !! £30+ for a bottle of Malbec !! This is a mark up of of over 75% saying bottle cost £7 buying in bulk could be cheaper.Top class restaurants do not charge this! Also the food portions are now less and also gone up.Favourite chicken breast in boursin sauce gone from £16 to £20 ! Huge increase smaller chicken breast and small portion of veg served on plate instead of separate dish. £16 for 2 sausages ! The food is still very nice and if the drink was not so expensive I may have gone back but just feel this is a Ripoff.Have been many places since and no where has charged over £10 for Malbec.😟

Visited with a view to have a family lunch but upon seeing the menu options, lack of vegetarian choices and the price of £13 for a baguette we unfortunately decided to leave. This was one of the last gems of somewhere to go where you could be assured of a good value lunch but have had to strike this one off the list until it's changed back to what it was before or improves. I visited a few months ago for an evening meal and left after reading the menu and lack of vegetarian options. Its becoming more difficult to be able to afford to go out for food due to cost. Really disappointed.

We booked as enjoyed this roast elsewhere. At £22 we were disappointed with half portion size for the pork, extra for Yorkshire pudding and potatoes which weren’t crispy. Still a good roast but not as good as we previously experienced.

The New Inn was very close to a B&B we were staying in, and rightfully recommended by the owners. My partner had the sea bass with a butternut squash risotto, which she found to be delicious and full of flavour. The fish was cooked to perfection with a nice crispy skin. I had the fish pie with salmon and prawns, which was also very tasty. The waiting staff were attentive and friendly, and offered advice on local drinks according to our tastes.

This pub was just across the road from our B&B. If is a food pub and was almost full with locals (albeit to reduced covid capacity) on a Monday night in mid October. The menu features pub standards, well executed with popular grills, some local specialities - butcher's sausages and faggots, several seafood specials and a couple of vegetarian choices. We enjoyed our meal so much we immediately booked for the following night which is very rare for us.Ask for extra custard - the staff are happy to oblige!

We visited the area to see the caves and stayed at the Old Manor House. This was in walking distance and we had two lovely meals there. The first night my daughter and I had lovely gammon steak with egg with chips and salad or peas. The steak was so large my daughter took the leftovers for the next day. My wife and I had started with Prawn cocktail and crab cakes that we very tasty. My son had a ham baguette and chips which he enjoyed. My wife had a very tasty lasagne with garlic bread. it was all washed down with thatcher’s cider, merlot and calypso coffees. We enjoyed it so much we went back on day 2, but skipped the starters as the main portions were so big. I had a ploughman’s with cheeses and ham which was great and filling. The others had succulent steak dinners. It was very busy, well used by the locals, which is a good sign. Staff were friendly and masked up.

Our party of five came to the New Inn for lunch as part of my mother’s 91st Birthday treats. We were warmly welcomed and shown our reserved table in the bar. While several other groups were also eating there we were all safely distanced. We were given our own printed daily menu to share which would be disposed of at the end of the meal. Our drink orders were taken and brought to the table. There were a variety of very tempting choices both on the menu and specials boards. My husband I chose the pan fried Tuna with risotto which absolutely delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked and the rice rich and creamy. My sister’s Chilli Chicken was also deemed really good. The other choices of Ham Salad, soup and filled baguette were excellent too. Although we deferred on puddings (we were going back for tea and Birthday Cake) there were several slightly different ones in addition to the usual choices which was good to see. We noticed that tables and chairs were all sanitised after guests had left. The New Inn is a reliable stopping point for meals on the A38 or if staying at The Old Manor House across the road (which we have several times). Food is consistently very good which is why we came over from Wedmore. It was really lovely to have enjoyed a great lunch in a safe and friendly venue. Well done!

We booked for a Sunday teatime. On arriving at the bar we were told that there were no Roast dinners left and were given a menu and directed to a table. No one came to take orders for anything so we went to order at the bar. We ordered food and drinks and sat back down, noticing that other people were having orders taken at the table. When we received the food it was ok but nothing I couldn't make better myself. We were going to order dessert and waited for someone to ask if we would like dessert but no-one came near. We heard the table behind saying they had ordered dessert 3 times and it still hadn't arrived. The atmosphere wasn't great so we paid and left feeling rather disappointed.

As visitors to the area we picked this pub out pretty much at random but as it turned out we were thrilled with the choice we’d made. The staff were relaxed, friendly but efficient. The ambiance was great, with seasonal decorations, pleasantly spaced tables and a cosy atmosphere. The menu offered good, varied choices, with a few slightly more unusual dishes, plus there were loads of specials. All 4 mains our family had were fantastic, well-cooked, good quality food, nicely served, with generous portions. Desserts too were delicious, the brownie being particularly well-received by one group member! Prices were a little higher than we’re used to in the north but given the superb quality it was well worth it. The only tiny problem for this pub is it’s limited parking, but we had a brilliant evening, and if we lived in the area we’d go here regularly. Thanks to all at the New Inn.

On arrival at lunch time on Friday 09 August, I asked the bar person what she would recommend from the daily specials. The not particularly helpful response was "everything". I should have gone with my instincts and left at that stage but unfortunately my 85 year old mum and I had been travelling since 0700 that morning so stayed. Big mistake... My mum ordered lasagne and I ordered beer battered fish and chips. The meals arrived and I asked for ketchup. The chips were hardly cooked and when I asked for them to be cooked a few minutes more, I was informed that this was because of the poor quality potatoes they were using... The meal arrived for the second time and indeed the chips were more acceptably cooked. Unfortunately the oil that had been used left a nasty taste in my mouth. The fish had also been re-cooked and the batter was oily and hard. Had I not been travelling since early morning and very hungry, I would have sent it back. The 2nd request for ketchup met with an almost empty bottle of the nastiest quality ketchup I have ever experienced. As we had almost finished our meals, the young lass waiting our table flitted past our table without stopping and asking if everything was OK. By the time I had swallowed my mouthful to respond, she had disappeared - good luck for her.

The menu itself was traditional pub grub style food and the atmosphere was upbeat and cozy.

We recently stayed at the nearby Old manor house b+b and was advised to eat our evening meals here as the food was good and reasonably priced. We were not disappointed and found that the food on both main menu and the children's menu were outstanding. So much so that we found ourselves booking a table there 3 nights of the 4 we were there. Excellent food and beer at very reasonable prices. Also an excellent beer garden that our children enjoyed! Would highly recommend anyone staying nearby or even just passing through to pop in for a meal and pint! Very friendly and helpful staff as well.

Unplanned stop for food after hours stuck on m5. Pleasant surprise to find somewhere really friendly, excellent choice on menu and when food came out. Cannot fault any part of this. Both enjoyed our meals. Included a photo of the Gamon egg and chips.

We visited this gem yesterday evening for our anniversary, we have eaten here a few times now and have had lovely food and great service every time. I had the homemade lasagne with salad and garlic bread, it came piping hot and we weren’t waiting long at all. My boyfriend had the chicken breast wrapped in bacon with leek and potato mash with garlic and parsley sauce, he loved it. Can’t fault this place at all and the Sunday roasts are very nice! Consistency is key and that’s why we return.

Thanks to all the staff at the New Inn Cross for an outstanding meal and all the help they gave us for every little whim we needed tending. The food is incredible at this pub. I had faggots which were very tasty. Several had roasts and others belly pork etc. Everybody was happy. The manager and his team were extremely helpful and nothing was any trouble for them. Theres an amazing choice of great quality beers. I was driving, but I wish I'd tried a few. I would strongly recommend this pub to anybody. Thanks again.

We were staying local so this was our stop for either a drink or for evening meal the staff got to know us quite well so was nice to welcomed in as a local it seemed for the week we were in the area, the food was excellent, dog friendly although you either ate in the garden area or in the public bar area dogs not allowed in the restaurant , that was not a problem to us well done

Great food and fantastic staff. This country Inn is definitely worth a visit for food, drinks and relaxing. The bar and restaurant staff were friendly and attentive. The food arrived beautifully presented and with very little waiting time. We would go back anytime.

Lovely day though a little blowy but we decided to eat outside overlooking the countryside. We choose a ploughman's and lasagne, both delicious although we were very tempted by the fish pie (next time definitely!!). The only drawback for some people might be the steps up to the garden, but if you can manage them it's well worth it and there's a lovely play area for children. Dogs welcome also. The staff are brilliant and cheerful and we always look forward to coming here. Winter time it's best to book as it's a very popular pub. Parking is either on road but there is a small car parking area opposite but we usually manage to find somewhere. Highly recommend.

Very helpful and polite staff who assisted with my children’s new found vegan dietary requirements. Paper straws were available as were a plastic free family now. Excellent country pub that’s in touch with the new world! Highly recommended and we’ll be bringing our vegan community to visit very soon.

Visited here with friends on a busy BH Monday afternoon. A good selection of local beers, plenty of choice from the menu and the specials board and a warm welcome from the staff was an excellent start. The food itself was very good with the fish pie packed full of tasty seafood and the other main courses equally tasty. Desserts followed with the raspberry pavlova taking the plaudits. The service was very good throughout and the bill was very reasonable given the quality of the food. Definitely recommended.

Nice oldie worldie pub, lovely, friendly staff but the food isn't up to much. None of us were impressed and after reading all the previous reviews we expected far better. Quite pricey too. I'm afraid the chef is letting this establishment down.

Stopped for breakfast bap and drinkWe had one crispy bacon bap with ketchup I asked that the bacon be crispy, as last time not so much. This time plenty of bacon but alas, still not crispy. Makes for a chewy bap. Had a sausage and caramelised onion cheesy bap. The sausages were delicious, bap was well toasted cheesy taste not so nice, as faux cheesy bit not pleasant to my taste. Coffee v pleasant Did not have to wait an age so that is a plus. Thank you

Good sized lunch, smaller than main menu portion size, so space for large piece of chocolate fudge cake :) Tasty food. Thank you. Good service from Esther and Food cooked well by Tim.

Great pub in a convenient location, couldn't believe it was almost empty, it is closing down due to lack of support, a great shame.
