Stopped for breakfast bap and drinkWe had one crispy bacon bap with ketchup I asked that the bacon be crispy, as last time not so much. This time plenty of bacon but alas, still not crispy. Makes for a chewy bap. Had a sausage and caramelised onion cheesy bap. The sausages were delicious, bap was well toasted cheesy taste not so nice, as faux cheesy bit not pleasant to my taste. Coffee v pleasant Did not have to wait an age so that is a plus. Thank you

On Bank Holiday Monday we called into the Leather and Lace what used to be called the White Hart. The new owners have transformed it from a village pub to a sort of retro bar which had been done quite well if situated in a town, but perhaps not so good for a village? However with regard to Covid-19 safety, they seemed very lapse. On arrival there was only one sanistiser bottle outside as you walked in and this didn’t work. No sign of the NHS Track and Trace App and no-one asked us for any contact details! Also inside none of the staff were wearing face masks. Drinks were expensive and slow to be served. They also had a BBQ running and although we hadn’t planned to eat, we decided to have a small snack so ordered a hot dog and a bowl of chips. After half an hour and nothing arriving we did ask at the BBQ how long it would be, as we needed to use the toilet and didn’t want to be in there when it came out! We were told that it was imminent. After a further nearly half an hour of waiting we went across to the BBQ again and they hadn’t even started it! They did however immediately start to cook the sausage for the hot dog! After an hour’s wait the food did finally arrive. The hot dog was nice but the small bowl of chips were warm and not hot! A poor service after waiting so long. According to the menu the BBQ items were £4 + £3 but they charged us £8!Would we visit again, maybe just for an odd drink and to see the decor, but very unlikely for any food, especially as everything is over-priced!

“Sunday Lunch, yesterday, 30 May. Despite being assured by Julia, the landlady, that children’s portions were available, We just couldn’t get the Duty Manager to understand that principle. We ended up with 3 side dishes. So, my 4 year old granddaughter’s lunch was the same price as an Adult Meat Platter. Their intransigent attitude will prevent us returning”

Completely over priced. £28.50 for 2 paninis and a bacon roll with 3 drinks. No garnish no crisps nothing. Plonked on the table on a saucer. Our waitress was nice. Our view was of the landlady in a very short dress flashing her borrow cheeks every time she got up from where she was sat ….my poor son had to sit and look at it!! Put some underwear on woman!!!!I’m not sure what the owners are trying to achieve but it certainly isn’t suitable in a little village. The audience has been read incredibly wrong .Come back the white hart!Off to get a bit more lunch as we are starving….I give it a year …. Such a shame.

Took my parents for lunch today. What a pleasant surprise. Outside and in well cared for and spotlessly clean. Was served by a lovely young girl who couldn’t do enough for us. The landlord and landlady were lovely and chatty. We sat in the lovely pretty garden next to the well looked after fish pond. All the outside areas were clean and obviously well maintained. The food was lovely, couldn’t fault it. Good menu and good prices. Will definitely return and recommend.

My partner and I visited at lunchtime and ordered a Brie and bacon on focaccia and a prawn coleslaw focaccia both with salad. My partner had 1 rasher of bacon and a slither of Brie on a wedge of dry bread with pathetic salad thrown on the side. My prawns were basic and in mayonnaise slapped on top of yet another dry wedge of bread. The salad had brown leaves in it and the 'slaw was nowhere to be seen. Also, what's with the metal tins they were served in? What's wrong with a good old fashioned clean plate? We both left feeling so disappointed.

Me and my dad decided to visit this pub as one of my friends had recommended it to us and it was easter sunday. On entering the pub we were met with a friendly smile from the landlord. He asked how we were then offered us a drink. We had booked a table and were seated within minutes of being there. Within 10 minutes of them acknowledging we were eating, the food came out. I was shocked as to how much there was and when the waiter checked on us we were offered more of everything if we wanted it. When the plates were being cleared I was offered more drinks and a pudding, i decided to go for the homemade cream egg cheesecake(this was good as it was Easter) which was even better than it sounded as i love cream eggs. Overall the staff and the food at this pub are 10/10 and i would definitely recommend this to anyone else.

We decided at short notice to visit our local pub for a Sunday meal. We were made feel especially welcome upon arrival. The landlady was very friendly and looked after us all, especially our toddler. The menu was quite extensive and the food was all very good - lots of well cooked veg and generous portions. Puddings were also excellent. We all had completely different dishes but they all arrived at the same time piping hot. The landlady went out of her way to look after our toddler and organised a special dessert for him. Pricing was also good value. We will certainly be recommending the White Hart to our friends and already have !

On arrival we had a very warm welcome, the landlady was marvellous at sorting out what I could eat. I had the ribeye steak which was superb, and, I had chips! Such a treat when you cannot eat anything cooked in rapeseed oil it is a rare thing indeed. My husband had the rump which he assures me was equally good. Our starters were generous and also very good. This pub is not like most these days one for posh grub. If you want good home cooked British food in a friendly pub. It is ideal. We went here for dinner because of the great reviews however, am despite not having a terrible meal, I think that the reviews are either greatly exaggerated or they have a new menu/chef... The menu was very basic not a huge or varied choice. I had the lasagne which was nice but more layers of pasta than meat. Good portion size, you won't leave hungry and friendly staff! Had to stop locally to pick up some furniture. Had lunch here. Looks comfortingly ordinary from the outside and predictable but well kept inside. Just what the doctor ordered. Friendly, welcoming, hospitable. Average but sufficient selection of well kept ales. We'll presented and what seemed to be fresh good pub food. Pleasant garden out the back. Fair prices. Taken individually all these things would rank slightly over average scores but when they all come together and just when you need them they make for a high score. Doubt I will ever be back in this village bit if you are passing through I recommend this pub.

These days pubs need to try hard to build a reputation as a restaurant as well as a traditional country pub. It's a difficult balance being an excellent local as well as a draw for visitors across and beyond the Somerset Levels. The White Hart is a gold standard achiever.Specifically, good ales and lagers and a wide selection of spirits (with Penderyn Welsh whiskey too!).The food is good, honest, delicious and locally sourced, even down to the wild boar I suspect! The fish 'n chips deserves the accolades from other reviewers: light, crispy batter cuddling a stompingly good and thick cod loin! The Sunday lunch is worth going for too and good value I'm told by patrons. t's on my list! The bar and restaurant are nicely separated. Both enjoy a good ambience? The staff are great. They clearly enjoy working at The White Hart, and it shows in the way they interact with one another and with local patrons and visitors from further afield. Live music is offered at weekends and there's even a pub coach trip! A warm welcome for all.Well done all, and thank you.

I have just spent a couple of weeks in Burtle, and as the two local pubs were closed, we ventured out trying to find a traditional pub with a warm friendly atmosphere and the White Hart fit the bill perfectly. We enjoyed a number of meals in the pub during our stay and have to say that Nicky did a brilliant job in the kitchen. The restaurant area was separate to the main bar which was nice. Food was plentiful and home cooked where possible. Highly recommend the Quiche and Steaks. The bonus was 'real' chips, simply delicious and a nice touch. Simon also was very welcoming and as northerners we didn't have a lot of knowledge of the area but he spent time to recommend places to visit including Taunton and Wells, both fantastic days out. All in all would definitely recommend the White Hart as a must visit to anyone staying in the area. Thanks for helping to make our holiday so enjoyable.

Good ales, a warm welcome from Nikki and Simon, a nice cosy fire blazing (unlike some pubs, they light the fire any time when it's slightly cold, not just in winter!), and when we last visited they had just started a Sunday carvery which is top notch and very reasonable. I can only presume that the only reason this place isn't bursting with diners is that the other pubs in the area are managing to cling onto their loyal customers. There's everything you would expect to see on a menu and a few daily specials to choose from, I have yet to be disapointed with anything, the particularly good home-made dishes are always quality, served by staff who seem genuinely appreciative of your custom too. They may not be able to offer the fantastic views or indoor water features like some, but the value for money offered and traditional country pub ambience are worth going back for. Try it, review it and help to give this place a reputation it can reap some benefits from!

So here's a village pub, 4 miles from Bridgwater and the M5 junctin 23; 5 miles from Street and1 mile North of the A39. It's also my local and I'm very pleased to be able to write a review - after 5 years living in Chilton Polden - about a country village pub that has survived and is beginning to prosper. In fact so enthused am I that I requested TripAdvisor add the pub to their database so I could write this review. There have been a succession of Landlords in recent years and none of them has managed to capture the quintessential essence of the traditional English Village Pub until Nikki & Simon took this one on a couple of years ago.The menu is basic, so don't expect Cordon Blue, it is English, so don't expect moules mariniere; it is very well cooked so expect to be satiated and it is amazing value, so don't expect damage to your wallet and the greeting and service is outstandingly friendly. We've eaten there 5 or six times now and have only ever been completely satisfied. The fish & chip menu on a Friday evening is better than any F&C shop I've patronised in recent years with lovely crispy batter and chunky chips - visit at 6pm and there will be many having a pint and waiting for their takeaway, but eaten in is just as good in front of a blazing log fire too (in the winter!).Sunday lunch is becoming something of a local legend with the quality of the cooking and the size of the portions, it's becoming advisable to book to avoid the disappointment of arriving at 2pm to find there's either no Sunday Roast left !So far we have been overwhelmed each time at the outstanding value for money and Sunday lunch is becoming a habit!

Firstly I was met with incredible customer service from the lady I spoke to today (Friday 20th sept 2024) which was initially why I had chosen this truck stop as she was informative on the phone about directions, facilities and spaces and the same in person upon arrival telling me clearly where things are and so on. The toilets and showers here was clean and tidy but as for the cafe given my late arrival on a Friday this was closed but this is to be expected as a HGV driver. Just over the road is a pub that serves good food and drink as well as hotels and shops within walking distance so this is a fantastic location for a truck stop that I see doing well in the future.
