The Red Cow in Sedgemoor

It was my partner's birthday today and we were staying at Sandy Glade holiday park. There were seven of us all together, so I decided to book ahead of time. On arrival the pub car park was quite full, but inside didn't seem too bed. The staff were very attentive and friendly and we were led to our table straight away. There was a good variety of food choices, but not too many, so you couldn't decide! After ordering there wasn't a long wait for food, but it was definitely worth the wait. It was all fresh, piping hot and tasted delicious. The overall experience and atmosphere was fantastic. It was a lovely birthday meal and anyone in the area should definitely try it out. There were seven of us and the total bill (including non alcoholic drinks) was £116.50, which I thought was reasonable, certainly for very good food. My thanks go out to all the staff at The Red Cow.

Excellent home cooked food. It's best to book

On our way to holiday to Combe Martin , we stopped to walk Brent Knoll ( on our wish list for ages. Lovely walk ). Very hot day , we decided to have a drink at the Red Cow , in this beautiful , hidden gem of a Village. We were greeted by a very friendly barman & had a good conversation. I enjoyed a smashing pint of Otter & a Ghost Ship low alcohol as I was driving . My wife enjoyed a salted caramel ice cream. The pub was very busy with a nice atmosphere. We will return when we can & have a meal here , as the food looked lovely. A very pleasant interlude on our holiday journey.

Roast of the day was excellent Ample portions, choice of small, medium and large roast dinners . Prompt effective delivery to the table All staff extremely polite and helpful Sweet menu was very adequate Great choice, lovely setting beer garden which is dog friendly . All in all a perfect choice Booked in advance by Phone table was ready and set within half an hour

We went for evening meal. We were greeted by warm and friendly staff. Lovely clean and homely pub. We had gammon and lasagne. Too full for desserts. The desserts menu had lots of choice. Would recommend a visit.

I phoned ahead of our visit to check availability and was able to book a table on the day.we were greated at the bar on arrival by a member of staff who took us to our table.we were able to order food and drinks quickly the service was swift ,the food was delicious we had Sunday roast and puddings.Staff were all friendly and attentive will definitely dine here again in the future.

Phenomenal home cooked food and made to order too - the roast dinners are lovely with a choice of small, medium or large - the large is large! Be warned!!! We have been coming here for a few years now and have got to know the majority of staff very well - all extremely courteous and very friendly. You will not be disappointed!

We really like it here and visit each time we are in the area . We love the ambiance , the food is very good, excellent in fact and the staff very pleasant. However, I should warn you that we have been overcharged the last three times on the bounce. Staff have been happy to rectify this once queried but 3 times is beginning to feel more than a mistake or a coincidence.

Took my wife for a meal today what can I say but wow. From the moment we walked in the welcome was amazing the table service was promp and professional and the food arrived quickly the food itself was outstanding I would definitely recommend this place to anyone

A lovely and welcoming country pub off the beaten track but well worth searching out. Great friendly service and offering a comprehensive menu including daily specials. Delicious food served ultra-hot. Nothing, nothing not to like about this pub

A very warm welcome on arrival which is rare these days. I had a medium roast dinner which was beautifully cooked and more than enough on my plate. They were happy to swap vegetables if necessary. I would definitely recommend

Great dining experience. Welcome as soon as U entered. Front of house team excellent made our evening. Lovely to be offered a roast meal midweekoff the specials board. Special board full of choice plus normal menu. Roast lamb and turkey meal superb followed by moorish desserts. Used to come here lot of years ago and it has still retained that family appeal. Didn't disappoint. Will be visiting again when in the area.

Wonderful Sunday roast with my nephew and his girlfriend. Amazing plate of food. My nephew said it’s some of the best roast potatoes he’s tasted. He had the lamb and the girls had roast turkey. The staff were very attentive. We’ll definitely be back ❤️

We have been here a couple of times, the first time we both had Lasagne, and it wasn't too bad, I would have scored it 7/10, the beef was quite finely ground, and the flavours were good, the pasta nicely cooked. The one thing this pub / restaurant doesn't do, is dress their side salads. There is no excuse, it costs virtually nothing to do, make up a dressing in a large bottle at the start of the service, and put a little on each plate that goes out with a side salad on. We ate here again following that, and no change to the salad even though I passed my thoughts on to the staff. On our second visit, I had a chicken curry. Others in the restaurant had it, and it smelled wonderful, my partner had a burger. On this occasion, the score is 3/10 ! Why, ... The chicken in the curry was as dry as hell, almost inedible, it was like cardboard. It has probably been cooking away all day, and just because a meat is in a sauce, it doesn't make it moist ! I left half, and that has to be a first for me. My partners burger was again, a little over cooked and dry, but more edible than the curry. Quite disappointing given our first visit, and unlikely to return as the prices aren't cheap. No word of a lie, a Wetherspoons meal would have been better, and half the price. We spent £76, and had a couple of beers, a bottle of wine, and the food. Not Impressed, ...Sorry.

A friendly pub with a good atmosphere. Very nice food with a regular menu and daily specials; the roast dinners are lovely. Good parking and a garden.

Staff were lovely. The food was good and it was nice that the whole meal was hot. The puddings were delicious as well.

The lady who served us was so funny and nice, she was so welcoming aswell. Wish I could have got her name. I went for a family reunion and it was so lovely, with the atmosphere and the food - everything was perfect Even gave us crackers for Christmas with cute games and jokes in - very good quality food and portion sizes, i was so stuffed after my food. I had the 15oz burger with cheese and a lemonade with a starter of camobert breaded bites. Overall wonderful time and a great recommendation.

Being it my first ever time coming to this lovely and friendly Restaurant/ Pub with absolutely amazing staff 10/10 and food and service was absolutely mind blowing not only myself but my 11 yr old son also said how amazing his steak 🥩 was and saying that it's probably the best he has ever had . Amazing lemon posset...I had to have 2 and now I'm feeling full up. We just called in for coffee but when I saw that..well..and my partner had crumble and custard..what a lovely stop!! Now to walk up Brent Knoll...

Lovely place, fabulous food bit we always seem to be next to a noisy table. Why do people have to talk so loud?

Was here for lunch a few years ago and gave it 5 stars for the delicious food and friendly service. Now back again for dinner and it is still the same delicious food and friendly service. Would be back more often if i lived in the area, but was only visiting relatives nearby.

9 of us went for a meal after my mothers funeral. Everything was outstanding, we ALL loved our meals. The service was amazing, fast, friendly and made us feel welcome. Place is immaculate and feels loved. Lady that served us, been there 36 years and was soooo lovely. Can't speak highly enough about it. Excellent place to eat and very friendly atmosphere

A nice pub with good food. Good sized garden to rear as well. Lots of reserved tables, we went on the off chance just as it opened and managed to get a table. Quiet when we were there but probably better atmosphere as evening goes on.

Had the chicken supreme from the specials board. Was gosh darn delicious!

We were recommended the Red Cow having just travelled 4 hours to our holiday accommodation near by and in need of a wholesome meal. We got that and more. A warm welcome, plates full of lovely fresh vegetables, roast dinners (it wasn't even a Sunday) and a delicious steak and kidney pie, lashings of thick gravy. The staff were all very friendly, the young lad who served us was exceptionally well mannered and efficient, with eye contact and even engaged in conversation...hoorah! We wish it was our local.

Haven't visited here in a number of years, but decided to pop by on a Friday lunch. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. They have a number of specials too, and the desserts looked very nice (we were too full from our meals!) We'll definitely be coming back again soon.

Popped in at lunch time .car park nearly full that was a good sign.greeted by 2 very friendly waitress and shown to a table for two very busy in the bar and resturant .lots of different beers and ciders on offer.very quickly served and order took while we choose our meals .I choose a ploughman's lunch my wife choose the salmon both meals were very good 10/10.staff were very friendly and working very hard to keep the meals coming .Will definitely return thank you everybody at the red cow

It has been a few years since I was last here. The food arrived without too much of a wait, together (5 of us), hot with a fulfilling portion. A little pricy but worth it.

Lovely, friendly staff. Great Sunday lunch, clearly very popular as the car park was full and because people had booked, there was only tables outside. Good value Sunday lunch, also good that you had a choice of plate sizes. Great views of Nrent Knoll

My parents dine here occasionally so we booked for 8 of us for my mums birthday. It’s such a charming old pub, tucked away with nice gardens if you want to sit outside. We had a mixture of meals, I had the Sunday roast turkey and it was perfect. All cooked to perfection and plenty of gravy. The raspberry pavlova was equally as scrumptious! The staff were so friendly, the food was served quickly and all cooked perfectly they were more than happy to bring out our birthday cake. Can’t fault it atall, a little gem of a place, we look forward to visiting again!

Nice food, and a nice pub, although expensive

Was invited here by a friend found it very easy to find with ample parking. The restaurant was spotless Staff friendly and efficient. I had a plowmans for change and it was right on point especially with the hotter weather.

Perfect place to go if you fancy a pint or have a nice dinner.

Lympsham WI visited the Red Cow recently as part of our ‘Ladies that Lunch’ activity. We were a party of just under 20 on three separate tables and the staff were excellent and very welcoming. They weren’t phased by our numbers and took our orders calmly and efficiently and arranged for us to all pay separately. The food was excellent and served promptly. We couldn't fault the quality of the experience and would highly recommend. Thank you.

Really enjoyable meal at the red cow. Food was all quick, fresh, hot and tasty. Really recommend this pub and having eaten here several times we have never been dissapointed

What an amazing place! Come here almost weekly for a nice meal out, the staff , the atmosphere and the food make this place like no other. I couldn’t recommend enough, never had a bad meal and tried almost everything on the menu, including a pork or lamb home cooked roast that is on permanently! We were staying at Burnham on sea, I looked for a village pub nearby and found the Red Cow, the food was delicious, pate starters and steak cooked to perfection, we will definitely visit again. The service was also first class👌

We visited the day before Good Friday so the pub was quite busy. My son commented how friendly everyone was, they really made an impression! Our food was excellent and the service was first rate. Would highly recommend!

We've eaten at the Red Cow several times, and the meals are superb! I only have one small criticism; I ordered steak and kidney pie with vegetables and chips, and the gravy had been poured over the plate, and the chips were placed on top the gravy, which made the chips soggy. Personal preference, I prefer crispy chips. Next time, I'll ask for the gravy to be separate. It's maybe a good idea to serve the gravy separately, so the customer can decide where and how much gravy they'd like? Desserts are lovely, although they're on the small side, especially for the price. Staff are nice, and we spoke to the chef who was in the bar, and he was pleasant.

We came for a quick lunch after a walk on the beach about 5 mins away, with no booking they were very accommodating of 7 of us. Good classic pub grub and dog friendly.

The best roast dinner in North Somerset

This is by far the best pub around for hot ‘home from home’ cooking. The steak pie is to die for and is my husband’s favourite! I usually have the salmon or something from the specials board but whatever is chosen is always faultless! Extremely friendly staff, clean and table service too. We invariably dine here every week which speaks for itself.

Food & service excellent. Steak was 100% better than a well known steak restaurant chain!!! Homemade coleslaw was delicious & the puddings were fantastic, salted caramel brownie was the best. Will definitely be visiting again. Well done all ⭐

Despite a water logged kitchen that had to close the Red Cow team managed to look after 14 of us as booked for an evening out . Their effort was much appreciated and food as ever was great . Thank you very much for the warm welcome .

Sorry to have to write this negative review. Because we have had some fantastic meals over the last 15 years at the red cow .in Brent Knoll .They suffered like all pubs / restaurants during the pandemic . 😷 but they came back with better food and hospitality. But we have been there recently for Sunday roast on the 26/11/23 Selection was disappointing no staters only turkey and the toughest lamb I have ever tried to eat and the the vegetables were undercooked .don’t think we will going back in the foreseeable future

After trying another carvery and struggling to find somewhere to eat late on a Sunday evening I chanced and called the Red Cow. So happy we did. Wayne (lovely gent who took the call) managed to squeeze us in on the last table available for a late roast. Most other venues at 18:30 would give you any number of excuses not to serve you what’s on the menu, or have run out of other options, but this pub was fantastic! The staff serving were more than welcoming and the food was delicious. Large lamb roast for £15 kids for £8. Beer excellent. Deserts were a little pricy at £7 but if you can point me towards a better lemon curd cheesecake I’ll eat my hat. We left with full belly’s and a note on local places to visit. Would highly recommend. PS toilets were spotless. This speaks volumes on any venue in my opinion.

A wide range of meals, including vegetarian, served by friendly and efficient staff. The atmosphere in the pub is excellent. The food is delicious. It also has a large car park so groups should have no problem meeting there. All round a very pleasant experience. Highly recommended.

A unexpected lunch out at a pub that is local to me. Friday and a roast lunch do not always go hand in hand but the menu had rib of beef as a roast option and that's what I went for. A full roast dinner and a choice of meal sizes, small, medium and large. All priced realistically for the meal. It included a Yorkshire pudding as well as the Red Cow cauliflower cheese. Cauliflower cheese is standard on the roast meals, remember to say if you don't like it. A traditional village pub that has adjusted to the food market to survive, it does well with a good reputation and food that always delivers. Friday is also curry night with a vegan curry option. One to remember next time I visit. WiFi coverage is also good which allows children to use their devices and keep busy.

Delightful village pub. Serves great food, steaks are good quality and the garden serves as a lovely spot for alfresco dining and drinks. I used to see John Cleese there back in the eighties and nineties, he would take his mum for dinner there and he would get quite animated about the petit pois. Go and visit for yourself!!! 10.09.23 Me and my son cycled from BoS to Brent Knoll via Crooked Lane, this is a nice route with no car traffic. We stopped off at the Red Cow for a drink and a slice of caramel fudge cheesecake. On the return journey we paused on top of Crooked Lane railway bridge and waved at the driver of a GWR locomotive and he gave a blast of the horn (go on my son!)

Popped into this place twice recently on the way home. In my opinion, it's not a village pub lacks atmosphere. You're not really welcome as a person who just wants a beer. Today was bizarre, we dropped in at 14:35, it shuts at bang on 15:00 as I was told twice on the way to the bar! Then, it was the first thing the barman mentioned. Looks like a few local people eat in the place if they don't want to cook at home, and I guess if you like a dinner hall atmosphere, it's OK.
