Diabolical. Visited with a wheelchair. If it was easy to get back out, we wouldn't have stayed. Wheelchair access (unsignposted) is via the rear entrance, across a rough stone and shale carpark and up a steep ramp (struggled to push the chair up here as it was so steep) - only to be met by another ramp at a locked door with a 2" step - so not disabled friendly. Once inside (through insistence that all our group would get inside) we found more steps, no disabled or accessible toilets, and the only way out the same as we came in - this time down a steep slope, across the rough car park and up a steep road - personal opinion - don't touch the place. It's not worth it, attitudes are disgusting, lack of help or support - we were greeted at the door by a lady asking if we wanted drinks or food whilst trying to work out how to even get inside, I think we were expected to sit outside as we had a wheelchair with us, certainly won't be visiting again - as toilet facilties were not available, we went over the road to another pub - they demonstrate exactly how it should be done!! No wonder the cornishman was so empty and depressing inside. EDIT Following Colins reply, not one of us has a son with black hair, we never met a man or saw a man called Colin, nor were we there at the time stated. It was not windy and we did not sit on a wall. I would suspect Colins recollection is somewhat different as he was not present at the time and therefore cannot respond accurately given his lack of presence. If, out of all of what Colin has said, any of it is true, it can only be that he was sat upstairs watching out, in which case as the owner I would have expected him to see any apparent struggle and assist, not sit back and just watch - not a very proactive, helpful and caring owner as he appears to try to imply. Colin, I would be very, very careful making up false responses to reviews like you have here, as it only weakens any response you do make, having to resort to lies. With several witnesses who saw the struggles who can counter your false claims, your reputation amongst locals is already at an all time low, with former staff and many previous customers all now choosing to frequent the King Arthur opposite you - as do we now, interestingly they also have an old building, indeed we are stopping in one in tintagel, however they are still easily able to accommodate the needs of wheelchair users without blatant lies, false claims and humiliation. Colin has, on top of everything, proved himself a liar as we did eat, 4 meals and 4 drinks, so we did see the ramp inside after climbing the step from the conservatory to the main entrance area. We also did not attempt to leave via the ramp at the locked door - a door that, despite knowing it might be needed, a door which, like many thousands of UPVC doors can be shut without being locked, was locked - Colins words. I am not the only person to review with a negative review Colin, taking a look at your other reviews, many, many people also review negatively for the poor customer service amongst other issues - one you are demonstrating in your blatant lies to try and save face to keep positive reviews.

The pub is only open Fri and Sat, that was fine , the annexe was open but in my room, the TV had no reception, there was no hot water to shower in the morning and there had been an issue with no hot food the night before. Everyone was friendly and it served a purpose.

It's now almost been a year since my wife bought a ticket for the Balfour Arms Princess Ball for my daughter. The event was cancelled in November and then she was offered an exchange to another event, which was also cancelled. The owners have repeatedly posted on Facebook to say they would refund the tickets money to all of those eligible, and my wife has had to send frequent messages, and each time is told that it will happen by 'x' date, yet the refund never appears - the last one two weeks ago stated that all remaining refunds would definitely be completed within 4 days... The owners have now stopped replying. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt and appreciate that the owners have suffered multiple setbacks which they state are out of their control. Unfortunately there comes a time when no amount of words or excuses can cover up the fact that this now feels like it has all been a big scam. I would recommend avoiding this business at all costs.

Loved our stay at the Inn. The staff were lovely & welcoming with lots of local information about where to go & what to see. The food was great. The room we stayed in was beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Breakfast next morning was also excellent. Location of the Inn is perfect for walkers, bikers & travellers in general. Highly recommend a stop here.

Paid for a giant pasty and got a burnt large pasty that was so hard it nearly broke my teeth on first bite. Must have been re-heated many times and went straight in the bin. Had a giant Dewdneys from Stoke recently and it was the real deal. Avoid this place as ripping you off on size and pasties fit for the bin.

Food was OK but nothing great , we have recently moved close by and wanted to try here for kebabs , large kebab was small and not overly hot ! Large chips were more like a small too . I’ll travel the extra 10 minutes and go back to my old kebab shop next time as it’s worth the travel

We are local to Dawlish and had family staying at Cofton. A table was booked for 6 people for 6pm. Originally, we were sat inside but decided to move outside as it was a sunny evening and we had dog with us. Big mistake as we were forgotten about despite asking to order twice. 40 minutes later, the waitress came out for our order and then advised us that there was at least an hour wait for food. It was then that we decided to give up and go elsewhere. The waiting staff were clearly stressed and I realise that it wasn’t their fault, just terrible organisation. Come on Cofton, you can do better
