The Masons Arms in Mendip

We were looking for a pub for lunch & decided to go to Frome as my partner said she had been there before. We saw this pub as we came into Frome & decided to stop here. We wanted a nice cozy proper pub & found it! The lady working there was very friendly & chatty. Food was lush, I had the rump steak & I have to say, for pub grub at pub prices, it was extremely good! Better than more expensive cuts in restaurants that I've had before! If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely pop in for food again!

A large group of friends often come to The Masons for a drinks get together. We decided we should celebrate the ones coming up to their 70th 😢 and have dinner. It was a lovely evening, the food and service were fantastic.

Came for a Sunday lunch and food was excellent had a roast and beef was too die for- Zoe and staff were all very friendly even with my toddler causing havoc. We will be back soon

First time eating here, always drove past but never been in. Was given lots of recommendations to come here so we did & boy aren’t we glad we did! Absolutely incredible food, great prices & the place is lovely, a lot bigger inside than it looks. 10/10 … we will be back, probably over the weekend! Staff were also great, very welcoming! Food was barely mediocre steak was hard as chewy, meat was salty as the sea itself, chicken was tasteless, only thing worth eating was the sheppards pie. Service was fine.

Had three meals at the Masons Arms during our weeks stay at a nearby cottage and every meal was exceptional, the staff were all friendly and professional and there was a great atmosphere. We all said we can’t wait to return.

We’ve been twice here for food now and both times have been amazing! The staff are super attentive and provide a lovely atmosphere. Each time our meals have been top quality and the chicken strips and halloumi sticks are to die for! Although the menu isn’t huge, there’s still a big variety of options to choose from and all of the food tastes very fresh. We would 100% recommend The Masons Arms for all occasions, whether it be a large family meal or a quiet evening meal. Will definitely be returning!

Popped in for lunch with friends on Saturday, it was so good we came back for roast on Sunday and we're really impressed with the food. Good selection of drinks. Lovely clean pub, friendly staff, kids and dogs welcome. Sport on very quietly in the bar area. Honestly something for everyone. Great to have a good local again. Will be back to try the Friday night music events soon. Don't know why its showing on here as the states. Definitely in Frome UK.

Stopped over in our motorhome, super welcome and really friendly staff. Absolutely brilliant from the reserved motorhome space to a wonderful meal, drinks and live music on a Friday.

Lovely pub! We stayed in their car park for free in our motorhome and went in for a meal. The food was super tasty which lots of flavour.. hats off to the chef! We sat there like lemons for a while wanting to pay not knowing we had to pay at the bar, never the less a friendly local pub that made us feel very welcome! Thanks for the stay too 😊

Frome’s best kept secret. Stumbled upon this gold mine by chance and we are so glad we did. As soon as you enter the Masons Arms you are treated like long lost friends. The staff are helpful and friendly and the atmosphere puts you at ease immediately. We ordered food (expecting standard but decent pub grub) but instead we were treated to the most satisfying, delicious meal. I cannot recommend this pub enough. If pubs needed a rescue plan-look at what the Masons Arms are doing because they are amazing. Paul….

We found this pub by chance at the weekend & thought we'd give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. The food menu had a good choice of food at reasonable prices & was really delicious. The service from the landlady & waitress was excellent. They were really welcoming & friendly & nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely go there again! The current owners have taken over recently, so if you're keen to keep a good traditional country stye pub going instead of the usual big pub chains, then this one is definitely worth a visit. We would give it 6 stars if we could!!!

We had the most amazing visit from the minute I walked in I asked for a table my friend was joining who had a highly disabled child we asked for somewhere quiet so as we wouldn't disturb over patrons when my friend arrived without my knowledge the staff had set up the ramp for them. They had no raised eyebrows that he was on the floor. The staff made us feel welcomed and part of the community which can be really hard to find so thank you for your kindness and being so welcoming. We run a carers group on the town so always on the lookout for places we can go

Had an amazing visit to the Masson arms today. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The staff were so accommodating with my son who is highly disabled and in a wheelchair full time and we’re warm, friendly and inviting. Will definitely be visiting again very soon.

Stopped in on the way home from holiday, we have been looking for a pub like this for ages great layout, Superb service, well kept beers and a quality menu. The landlord was superb and very hospitable, with treats and water on hand for the dog. It took us a while to decide on food as there was a good selection and priced very well indeed. Settled on scampi and the schnitzel both cooked exceptionally well decent amount of tartare sauce with my scampi no thimbles of sauce here!! Surprised at the negative reviews for food and pricing, if you're passing and want a decent plate of food and a very nice pint, you could do loads worse than stopping here!

Visited the railway(which is well worth a visit)and on the way home saw the Masons Arms . The lady who served us was very helpful and patient whilst the younger members chose their Sunday meal. In fairness we did wait a while for the food to be served but as we hadn’t booked we didn’t mind. The lunches were served and it was really nice and plenty of it for those with a good appetite.

Had a great lunch with my Fiancée,my daughter, my son in law and their 2 boys. Everyone was so helpful and friendly and the food was good and reasonable price too.

Never visited before so just popped in for a drink on our way home. A drink turned into a lunch ...... Atmosphere was good, food was good, service was very friendly and efficient. Only dropped a point because my husband didn't get any crackling with his pork! We'll definitely return again.

On the Internet, it said any meal and any drink for £11 per person. When I paid, it was priced at the normal rate total £26. The size of the meal was small very small, Our 9 & 7 year old grandchildren have more on there plate's then we were served. WOULD NOT GO BACK

The food was lovely, but we ordered from the lunch menu but was given the larger sized portions, when I queried the price she charged us for the dinner menu. I explained we ordered from the lunch menu and all we got was a sorry.

We were very disappointed with our lunch today. We had booked to meet good friends who we hadn't seen for some time. We felt the standard of the food was well below expected and pictured on your website, and the quantities served were inadequate. The few chips served were dried out, the fish dry and overcooked, the steak was dry and overcooked and a side salad limp and well past its peak. One positive was that the waitress was friendly and helpful. It was difficult to complain at the time as our friends were treating us. We felt so hungry when we left that we stopped off to buy a snack on the way home. This is the first time I have ever written a negative review as I am not a person who looks for things to complain about so I am very sad to feel the need to voice our disappointment.

Booked a table online but when we turned up they weren’t serving food Staff and customers very helpful in directing us elsewhere but not a good experience Also online stated kitchen open

Hoped for lunch but there was a dispute over diner's bill.. extra money charged without consent. After waiting was told kitchen closed. Not good 👎

Visited with a number of colleagues for lunch. In the past the food was some of the best I’d had in Frome, the mixed grill was awesome… BUT! I don’t know what has happened, are there new owners, has the supplier changed? The quality of the food has absolutely fallen off a cliff! I ordered a chicken wrap, the nuggets used where of the cheapest quality, formed meat, grey in colour, the chips tasted like they’d been cooked with the fish, perhaps the oil needed changing, the Asian slaw detailed on the menu never arrived with the meal, others in our group complained of cold food, odd tasting food, and a fishy flavour seemed to run through everyone’s food. One of our party had to cancel on the day sadly, “another one cancelled” was the abrupt response from the lady at the bar. I appreciate that it’s not ideal but your customer service is poor. We were all charged different prices despite everyone having the £9 pub classics including a drink, we were charged for a round of drinks despite the drink being included. Quite frankly in an industry that is suffering and pubs closing you would imagine that service would be paramount and the food would be of a standard that is acceptable. It’s sad to see the decline here but declined it has.

This place is amazing if you have kids in tow. When you walk in it feels like a drinkers pub but in the restaurant bit they have games, books and a little kitchen for toddlers! Mia went out of her way to make us feel welcome (a table of 8 with 4 kids in tow between 18 months and 9), including helping me with a moody 9 year old. Kids meals came out first which was a nice touch. Food was lovely, traditional pub food at reasonable prices. No changing facilities for babies was the only downside.

Visited this pub this evening for the first time for dinner and drinks. I must say we had a great experience from the moment we walked in. We were greeted by welcoming staff, great selection of drinks and the best pork belly we’ve ever had! We were really impressed with the cleanliness of the entire place (especially the toilets) the atmosphere is the best we’ve experienced in the area. Exceptional food for a reasonable price. Friendly staff, clean cosy environment, log fires and dog friendly. If you’re looking for a homely vibe with a relaxed friendly atmosphere this is the place to go. Will definitely be returning time and time again! Update** had such a lovely evening returned the following day for a late lunch, had the chicken burger with sweet potato fries and the pie and mash. AGAIN, fantastic service, delicious food, got chatting with other patrons and the staff and all in all just a really lovely evening. Have booked for Sunday Roast. Even though a 20 minute drive away. Will be our new local!

Ended up here by chance when looking for food and so glad we did. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was homemade and fresh cooked and great quality including the kids menu and the prices were excellent value. There was also some games, toys, colouring (with pencils not crayons) and books to entertain the kids and Mia was great at helping to distracting Hangry children who had a long day out. If we lived more locally we would visit regularly but would definitely go again if in the area.

Stopped here for lunch on the way home from Center Parcs. Dog friendly pub for food. Food was very nice, good value for money compared to other local businesses. Staff were friendly and helpful. Knocked a star off as there is no baby change facility, I had to change our baby in the boot in sub zero temperatures, which soured the experience slightly.

Great pub, great meal and lovely staff. We stupidly forgot to book somewhere for Sunday lunch on Christmas Eve, but this place came to the rescue and the chef agreed to squeeze us in. We were so glad he did as the meal was fantastic. We will definitely be back next time we're in the Frome area.

Warm welcome from the 3 young men who seemed to be running the place! Meals did take quite a long time to come, offered to do chicken breasts, so think these were cooked to order, beef was ok, obviously pre-cooked/sliced and quite well done and despite being served with gravy over, was cold (I had already heard someone else say the same) roast potatoes were lovely and plentiful and lots of veg. We weren’t offered dessert when they’d cleared our mains, when asked they did then take our orders but came back to say the oven was switched off so they could only do ice cream!! Really?! It was 3pm on a Sunday and there were other tables still eating their mains!! Unfortunately this has put us off returning as this was very poor customer service, we’d come out (and pre-booked!) for a full Sunday lunch! And the irony of it all, there was a sign above our table saying to leave room for dessert!!

I visited this pub 4th Jan 2024. I came with my four year old son and I could not recommend this place more. The staff were so helpful and friendly, they really helped me with my son too. Making sure we had games etc. We had a lovely meal, reasonably priced. Would highly recommend! (haven't left a review for the rooms as I did not stay in their facilities)

This was our second year spending Christmas Day here and we had another delicious lunch. Wonderful atmosphere & friendly staff, not to mention cosy surroundings. A big thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make our Christmas Day very special indeed!

Not good! Camembert with red onion chutney. The didn't have any, but got to mention that. I would not have ordered it if I knew before hand.

Wouldn't go back. Very poorly run. Customer service was awful. Although very young staff were pleasant it was as if no-one had a clue. The food took an age to come out and was very disappointing as the menu was not what was served. It took we'll over 2 hours for mains and 1 dessert. Really disappointed.

We decided to come to this pub for a Sunday roast. The pub is well decorated and the young man who greeted us was very polite. He had said that some large tables had ordered so the wait may be slightly longer. we were okay with this. The three adults ordered the duo roast which was beef and chicken and we ordered the kids cheese pizza. We were waiting for over a hour but the young lad did keep coming to apologize for the longer wait. Like we kept saying we were happy to wait. A young girl brought two plates out and said " beef and pork". we were very confused... pork isn't even on the menu. she took it back to the kitchen. So already there was some confusion. Finally all our correct food came out. It looked okay on the plate but you could spot that the roast potatoes were frozen and not home made like the menu said. We started to tuck in. The beef had not even been cooked properly... it was so tough and chewy.. i had to spit it out and the three adults didn't even eat the beef. The vegetables had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp all day as they were past there best. NO cauliflower cheese either as the chef had forgotten to order Cauliflower ( even though there is a sainsburys over the road!) The young lad came over and asked if everything was okay. We complained about the quality of food and how most of it was inedible. He said sorry and then went to speak to another lad. He then came over and we had to repeat ourselves to this one. He then walked off and about 5 mins later the landlady came to our table..so once more we repeated ourselves. We said the beef was not cooked properly, the veg was past its best, potatoes frozen and the kids pizza was disgusting as the cheese had a horrible taste to it. She didn't look very happy and went on to say they were having problems since she had been away. She offered a pudding for the child which we declined and said we need to get him summit substantial and mentioned we were going McDonalds ( which was also across the road). Once we had said this, she became very rude and angry. While this was happening, one table had already got up and left due to the food being that bad, oh how we wish we did that!. She said she would give us 25% and wanted us to come back another time. we once again declined and said we would not be coming back as we were not local. This seemed to have also annoyed her. When we went to pay, we asked her to take the pizza off as the child hadn't eaten it. She became very rude then and said we should have said straight away. I once again reminded her that we did, and that she was the third person to come to our table!. Begrudgingly she took the pizza off and the 25%. I would not recommend the food or even the service. Very disappointing as the inside of the pub was lovely.

visiting family in the area and decided to visit for some food. Really welcoming and friendly pub, ordered several meals all came out in good time. I went for the Korean chicken burger and had a brownie for pudding both were excellent and enjoyed the meal. The 2 ladies working in the pub are the nicest and most friendliest people I have ever met and their customer service was impeccable. Look forward to returning again next time visiting family in area

Nice pub, food and service was fine, stayed the night in my motorhome, didnt realise how busy Frome is and the traffic on the main road was relentless so didnt sleep that well.

Poor quality in total. I always thought Eton mess was fresh fruit , meringue and fresh cream, not frozen berries and ice cream.

Absolutely disgusting place to eat, 45 minutes for a starter, which was frozen mushrooms on a piece of cheap bread. Main a burger which was a cheap thin dry burger chucked in a roll and nothing else, when I asked wheres the fillings were, I had a piece of lettuce brought on a side plate. Please avoid and save your money, the kitchen should be shut down!!!!!!

Great service, super friendly waiter, reasonable prices. But food was a little under par two chicken and ham pies (whilst tasted great) were sauce with some ham absolutely no chicken. Apple and blackberry crumble was made like you have at school with oats not flour crumbled with butter and sugar. Needed a little atmosphere some low level back ground music and was chilly so a bit of heating on would help.

Lovely welcoming family pub been a few times and also the children loved the evens we have been to. Food is good and staff Lovely worth a visit.

Very friendly staff. Lovely calm atmosphere. Lovely interior and spotlessly clean. Lovely food. Sad this isn't my local as we would visit more but alas we were on holiday.

Nice atmosphere, but the food was very slow and shocking on arrival. We could understand that the women's football may have made our experience atypical, but the meals were really poor on this occasion.

I booked the table for 2pm, 3 days ago aware today was a bank holiday, We got here at 1.45 and was allocated a table and bought drinks. At 2.10 pm I went to the bar to order food, as no one had taken our order, and was told the kitchen closed at 2pm. We are a local business that recommends this pub to our guests. We won't anymore and we won't be back.

Stayed the night on their car park in our motor home and ate two nights running in the pub. Food very good but due to a slip up, we were forgotten for a while on the second visit. It was rectified with sincere apologies. Will use again.

The worst Sunday dinner I've ever had, no flavour including the gravy. Dry chicken and not great veg. Husband, who likes spicy food had the Prawn, Chilli and Crab linguine, ran out of crab and the pasta was so spicy he couldn't eat it. People were lovely but food was dreadful.

We booked a large party 15 family with 4 children at late notice and they were super put toys out for the children and gave us a nice space we could chat and catch up without worrying about disturbing other customers, we hadn't managed to...

We ate there tonight, really not good. We had the 2 course for £25. The garlic mushrooms were frozen mushrooms, way too much sauce and the sourdough bread wasn’t toasted. The halloumi was salty and I could eat it. The profiteroles were hot or still frozen. They had the cheek to charge us one full price and then the price of a starter for my meal. Won’t be going back.

I had a gammon , had to send it back as it was uncooked, you could see where the middle was uncooked , when they brought it back it was no different so I just left it, showed it to my friends that you could...

Food was good but felt a bit let down when staff started to put chairs on tables and brush up when we was still eating. Not a good atmosphere.

Great finding on a raining day. Car park available on site, caring staff and good food for a fair price. We had burger, veggie sausage with mash and a proper Guinness pint. Will be back next time I’m in the area.

We were warned by our Airbnb host to avoid the Mason’s why oh why didn’t we listen. As we sat down we where greeted by the barmen who informed us that they had run out if several items NO CHIPS, NO GAMMOM and NO PIE....

A great venue for a meal. We were there at lunchtime. Quite quiet but the beer and cider were excellent. We had the cornation chicken salad. Beautifully served. Shame we dudnt take a photo. It was gone all too soon!

As per the other reviews. (We didn't read them unfortunately. We only popped in because we were running late and this was the first pub we came across.) Wait time for food was unbelievable! The couple opposite had been waiting 45 minutes for theirs. Our food was hurried and in my opinion, the meat was undercooked , the vegetables microwaved and the food tasteless. We couldn't eat it and walked out! My advice. Don't, just don't!

Superb Sunday roast, lots of lovely varied veg, delicious gravy and Yorkshire puds, super friendly and accommodating staff. Lovely experience for myself, grandchildren and dog. Thank you 😁
