Well what can I say! We celebrated my birthday with a meal here and it was fantastic! I ordered the hunters chicken and it was delicious, my friend ordered the red curry and it looked Devine! We also ordered pudding of apple crumble and that was the best tasting crumble I’ve had in a long time! The staff was warm, welcoming and very friendly making the time to chat and made us feel at home. We ordered 2 bottles of Prosecco and it went down lovely! We would recommend this place to everyone and anyone and will be booking to come back again soon! Thank you for a fab night

We went to this pub after reading good reviews and the online menu looked nice. Had a lovely day at longleat with family and arrived at pub for 630pm. We had to ask twice if anyone was going to take our drinks order as sat for a good 20 mins without anyone coming over. Ordered a bottle of Prosecco and were told the pub only has 2 flutes which were given to the table next to us as they had ordered Prosecco too. Poured a glass and was very dark and tasted awful. I took the bottle to the bar and the barmaid said she thought it looked off when she opened it!!!! I replied why would she serve it then!!!?? Strange! My son ordered a southern fried chicken burger which looked amazing when it came out. We had two other kids with us too and their chips came out uncooked and rock hard. We complained and they were re fried and brought back out. I had the southern fried chicken platter. Cut my chicken open and was pink and raw in places! I then panicked and grabbed my sons as he was halfway through and his was raw too!!! We called the waitress over again and the chef came out to us. She said she was the landlady and chef and said she temperature checked it and it’s fine! We replied and said that it’s pink and raw how can she say that! Her response and excuse was that she was rushed off her feet - there were 4 tables of people In there! No excuse to send out raw chicken. Yes we didn’t pay for mine or my sons meals but the excuses rather than apologies were awful and I would urge people to check the chicken going forward as I have been very ill today and not good on a 2.5 hour journey home! Such a shame as we were celebrating my sister in laws 40th and hoped the meal would be the icing on the cake.

Last minute decision to go out to eat on a Thursday night. Called ahead and booked a table for in 5 minutes time. Very friendly lady on phone. Covid restrictions in place which worked well. Live local but never been in here before. I guess the pictures outside made it look like a 'cheapy chain' place to eat. The menu had plenty to offer and was really reasonably priced. All 3 of us really enjoyed our meals and service was good. We will defo be back!

We were looking for a place to stop for a drink. We spotted this pub so decided to stop. There was no visible signage to show an entrance or one way system during this Covid time so we went via the front, found a table and entered the bar from the side to order. We were greeted with a, ‘where have you come from? For God’s sake. You need to go out there, sanitise, then text the number in your party and how long you’ll be here to me.’We did as we had been ordered to do. Then we approached the bar to order. Half the bar had a plastic screen and half did not. The soft drinks for the children were situated in a fridge on the side with no plastic screen, so we waited for the server to stand behind the plastic and we moved across to look in the fridge at the drinks. She promptly banged on the screen and yelled, ‘ this is here for a reason!! You came in the wrong way and now you can’t stand in the right place!’ So I told her to forget it, we were obviously causing her too much bother. I also pointed out that there was no signage as far as we saw. She yelled something else (I can’t remember what) and we left. The pub was filthy and run down and the service was the worst I’ve ever experienced. Give it a wide birth.

Roast potatoes were hard like they were microwaved, veg was so overcooked, soggy broccoli and floppy green beans! We had to go into the cupboards and serve ourselves to get the salt and pepper bare in mind the pub was near empty. We asked for the bill and waited 20 mins, decided to look around at the bar wondering what was taking so long and the bar staff were just watching the TV. We ended up walking to the bar to pay and told the guy we waited 20 mins, no apology, looked miserable and just took our payment and went back to the bar. Was so tempted to walk out and not pay for the meal, but couldn’t bring ourselves to do that. Will NOT be returning here.

Well let’s say I will Not be going back again! I went her on Saturday 14th March 2020 for my birthday meal with 6 friends. It was a hour & half wait for our meal and that was even for starters. I complained to one of the young male staff and he said I told the first person that ordered, it was a 45min wait... I asked my friends and no one was told this.. plus by this time it was way over 45mins anyway! Also there was only 2 other tables eating so why so long?!I asked for the manager and he was damn right Rude! He did not apologise and didn’t really want to do anything about it until I said I want a re-fund it’s Not good enough service, even then he only said he starters will be refunded (which we had to ask again for before leaving!)The manager also said that we should have pre-ordered the food as it was a big table... I was never told this when booking the table a week before the night so he was trying to blame us instead. The food was nothing special just normal pub grub which could have just been re-heated not cooked from fresh.First time I’ve been here since it’s been taken over and it’s crap most of the staff didn’t have a clue only 1 lady that was really apologetic at the end.

Although my husband and I live near Frome, we have not been to the Masons Arms for many years. We liked the look of the menu so we decided to visit. There was a good choice for the rather amazing price of three courses-plus glass of "fizz" for £19.99! I had tomato soup with a swirl of balsamic and ciabatta roll, salmon with asparagus and potatoes dauphinoise and almond tart with raspberries and ice cream. My husband had three courses-for £12.99-from the lunch menu. He had chicken in crunchy coating with jug of gravy, "smothered chicken" ( cheese/bacon ) and sticky toffee pudding-gorgeous! Lovely stone pub, pale woodwork, there is a car park. Very pleasant, helpful service. I'm sure we will plan to return!

Called in on spec, Barmaid said she was still learning as she didn't know what a Spritzer was, no one there to help and assist her. I had a Doombar which I had to send back as it had a sour taste, another customer had to do the same. It was explained it was probably because the barrel needed changing but as they had a party of 16 to cater for they were too busy to do it.Declined a replacement but the other customer did but he said it still tasted off.As to the food I ordered Lasagne which was tasty,my wife had the sausage & mash with green beans roasted beets and creamy leek mash. She got sausages with mash and peas.We told the waitress this wasn't what we had ordered' again advised busy because of the large group.Sorry, but we have been to other Pubs where they regularly have large parties and they all are able to cope without difficulty. Have never sent back beer before. When we complained to the waitress the Landlady came out to see us and explained all the above again and agreed to give us 25% off our next meal valid for 3 monhts. As we are not local doubtful it will be used.

Although I've not been living in Frome for some years now, I have always noticed the first pub in from the top of the "ski slope" Bypass, having scaffolding around it, notices being put up that its closed due to renovation or under new management.Last Sunday I had to take an emergency stop in the pub for a sugary drink.First time for me for a long time in that place. The lay out has changed inside, it's been opened up, although to the left of the pub, the rooms have been left very much the same, the bar area has now been opened up with 2 large TV screens at both end of the pub, showing BT sports. My partner and I had a pepsi which was very nice and NOT watered down, like other pub companies we've been to. I also had a starter, which was also very good too. I can recommend the southern fried chicken and gravy starter.Once feeling better, we went home.Staff are very friendly and happy to help.Service at the bar can be a little slow, the pub wasn't full and my partner had to wait a while whilst the person in front had a small order of drinks to buy.For a Sunday afternoon, there seemed to be only one person in the bar and several in the kitchen.I remember going into this pub, when inside it was dark, the lighting was aged and the carpets stank of beer and other things... dogs I think it was. .. Could've been other stuff too, but anyway it wasn't a nice experience when your shoes stick to the carpet as you walk over it.Nowadays, the carpet has gone! And a fresh wooden floor is down, makes it look so much better and fresher. Gone are the old windowsills and now is a fresh cladding around the walls. Even the front doors work! They use to be wooden and clanged together and wouldn't shut, especially in the wet, the doors would swell, and no one would sit anywhere near the front doors, or they'd end up with a stiff neck or a cold the next morning! So for ambiance the lounge to the left is good and the dining room. For food, its not fast coming, but when it does, its good. The prices of the meal deals are also very competitive.

A family of 9 visited on christmas day. I had the previously read the reviews and had started to um and ah, I needn't of worried. What a fantastic little place this is. Having walked in via the carpark being greated by fellow customers "merry christmas" we were then acknowledged at the bar by a lady who asked who we were and said shed take us to our table with what was a lovely set up with a table cloth, crackers and supprisely starter and mains cuterly and spoons. Once we were settled I went back to the bar to get some drinks. There was 3 ales on I had the tribute I also noticed that the pub has a cask marque poster, sign of a great pint there. When our food came out oh my, the plates turkey and gammon, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and a pig in blanket, and the potatoes were, big and crispy, vegetables came out in separate bowls, to which we all helped ourselves. This christmas dinner myself and husband couldnt clear our plates due to the amount of food we had. The tenneagers that were bringing out our food and to other tables did not stop, they both were very friendly and smiling evening offering us more vegetables and drinks. The gent behind the bar was very bubbly with every customer he was dealing with, there was another another lady popping in and out the kitchen and going around the tables checking on people and interacting, everyone was very friendly. I couldnt fault this place. We have booked again in january for a smaller table.

The waiting staff gave other tables the children’s food not knowing where they were taking things, and 1 meal never did appear. We sent the whole lot back! The manager blamed it on the fact he had a whole kitchen of new staff. Maybe it would have been better if the kitchen was closed whilst you trained your staff. Would never return.

My mother & I came into this pub during a Saturday lunchtime & found it to be virtually empty. There were only a few other diners so we were not impressed to find we had to wait a considerably long time for our meal. In my opinion, the food was average & the portion was small. For our dessert we had another long wait but I particularly enjoyed the chocolate torte & would recommend it. To take so long serving our food during a very quiet period is not acceptable. The bar staff were friendly but we felt the image let them down. We were disappointed as this was our first visit so we will definitely not consider a return here in the future.

Just stop at the Masons on recommendation. A really nice pub. Food is pretty good to. Dog friendly as well. A pub with a lot of potential. We did had a very nice Sunday lunch. Olive and flat bread as nibbles. Could be better with Olive oil.

We are here after being recommend to us. The bar was busy with locals but there was not many eating. The bar maid and chef were helpful and polite. There was a nice choice of dishes on the menu and the food was served quickly. Whilst the portion sizes were good, I would not say that this was amazing pub food, it was value for menu food which is ok. The restaurant is nicely decorated and overall we would visit again if traveling passed. There was a nice choice or real ales and ciders on tap too.

I took my son who’s 12 here on spur of moment Tuesday evening. We ordered our food it arrived in good time, I had Steak n Ale pie and my son had a Burger off children’s Menu, the Burger was huge and my son was well impressed he soon polished it off along with his chunky chips. My pie was full of flavour and gravy was so tasty. Service was great young lady was polite and attentive. To my surprise there was an Offer on so my son ate for £1. I will be returning the place is spotless and the decor is so Tastefully done. Well done!

Chose the mason arms after a morning out- 4 adults, 3 kids, because the website stated food served between 12-9 , and many local places were either closed or stopped serving food early. It was about 12.45 when we arrived.

Walked to the masons with friends who lived nearby. The walk whetted our appetite! We ordered a chicken sizzler and chips, all gluten free. Beef pie and chips with a HUGE puff pastry topping. An enormous piece of fish with chips and mushy peas whilst I had the scampi. The staff were knowledgeable and very friendly. Will definitely be back.

Initial impressions were favourable but our food was slow to arrive and when it did it was awful. Of the 5 of us only one was satisfied with what was on her plate - Mushroom and blue cheese pie. The crust on the Chicken and ham hock pie was rock hard and the sandwiches were poor. My starter, prawn cocktail, arrived with the mains because "sometimes people have a starter as a main meal"! It bore no resemblance to the menu description, it was merely a gloopy glob containing shredded shrimps with a sprinkling of greenery. Because of the confusion I was told the £7 cost of the starter would be waived but this completely ignored the fact that the 2 courses I had chosen were a £12 special, the menu price of my (dreadful) Smothered chicken was £12, so I still ended up paying the full price. We won't be troubling them again!

Usual pub menu nothing special. Pleasant service but they do need to make sure that the kitchen door is shut before asking the chef questions or comments overheard can give a poor impression. Probably ok for a local boozer you could have a chat and gossip at the bar but if they are looking to attract the Frome 'money' clientele they will have to up their game.

Attracted by the sign 2 courses for £12 thought we would try the Mason's Arms for lunch. Rather disappointed by the limited choice for the offer, however, other dishes were not that expensive. I had the offer, salmon & prawn starter with cod & chips for main. Have to say the starter was delicious and the main course very enjoyable. My wife found the same with her starter of Red Chilli Soup and Shepherds Pie. The pie was special and had chopped vegetables in it, with the accompanying vegetables being perfectly cooked, not hard and not too soft.

This was a room above the bar in an old (but comfortable) inn just on the outskirts of Frome. The staff were very business-like, and I would have liked a smile or two, and perhaps a bit of chatter. But apart from that the place is OK. The bed was comfortable, but I would have liked a bedside table on both sides of the bed. As it was I had to place a chair beside the bed to hold my specs. etc.The bathroom is very small with a tiny basin. The shower is adequate with plenty of hot water. But the door to the bathroom is a bit of a problem. On the outside it has a long mirror hanging from the top of the door, but these hangings increase the height making it very difficult to close the door properly. The food at dinner-time was plentiful for the price, but, as a lover of good breakfasts, I would have liked a bit of doubling up on some of the ingredients. It is a reasonable hotel for a short stay.

We have been frequent users of The Masons Arms since its refurbishment a couple of years ago, and have been impressed by the quality of food, beer and service. Unfortunately, it changed hands a couple of months ago, and whilst the food and beer have retained high standards, the quality of service has collapsed to an unacceptable level. This is not the fault of the individuals who strive to do their best, but of the management who employ only 2 staff who between them have to man the bar (rarely), wait at table and assist the chef in the kitchen. The last time we visited - and it will be the last time - we reserved a table in the bar because it was dog friendly. We arrived on time to discover that somebody else had taken our table because there was nobody manning the bar to stop them. Our food was excellent, but we had to wait an hour after ordering it before it was served. I also had to wait 10 minutes at the bar to order our second round of drinks before anybdy appeared to serve there. This is the 3rd time we have experienced this sort of situation; we have given them the benefit of the doubt twice, but this was the last straw. We shall not be going back, which is a shame because the beer is well kept and the food is delicious, they just do not employ enough staff to cope with the number of covers at table and drinkers at the bar.

Stayed for 2 nights over a weekend and we had a pleasant stay, staff where very friendly and the surroundings where clean and tidy, I understand it has changed ownership a few times recently and the new owners are doing their best to turn it around with a few small changes the Masons arms could be a lot better. Upon arrival we where shown to one of the 2 rooms which was en-suite, not badly decorated and the bed was comfy, we decided to make a brew but the kettle wouldn't fit in the sink to fill up and there was no bottled water, also had to unplug the tv to boil kettle. The 2nd night we had to move to the other room with the shower toilet across the landing, not a problem, however the toilet door wouldn't lock and the toilet was a good 15 feet from the door so putting your feet against the door wasn't an option just whistled loudly. On the whole it was a pleasant stay but a few niggles which I'm sure the new owners will sort out, the breakfast was very nice although I would have liked to have seen juice and maybe offered a 2nd cup of coffee.

When I last visited the Mason's (about 6-8 month's ago) it was a really good place to eat with excellent food and a real buzz. I understand it is under new management and I have to say I was very underwhelmed this time around. What a great shame. Whilst the waiting staff were very good, I cannot say the same about the food. This was more like a chain pub and I wouldn't describe it as 'gastro' at all. The food used to be exceptional but is now very average, pretty tasteless and expensive for what it was.Regrettably, would not be inclined to go back.

Stayed here for one night, and whilst the staff were friendly and welcoming, the bedroom could have been greatly improved. Dreary & drab looking room with dark colours, mouldy patches on carpet covered up with off cut carpet, some damp spots on wall, no MIrror, hair dryer, TV, Wardrobe, though lots of drawers, nowhere to sit or hang towels & our "private" bathroom, was actually across landing with no bath mat, lock on door didn't work & light next to sink mirror also did not work. We requested an early breakfast of 7.45am, as had to be away by 8.30am for a pre-arranged appointment, this was accepted by Management, yet the next morning, nobody showed up, & we couldn't actually get into the main reception area of the pub or restaurant, as we were basically locked out of these areas, only access we had, was down the stairs, past a locked main bar door, & out through a "key only" emergency/fire exit. We waited until 8am & when nobody appeared, we had to let ourselves back in emergency door, to leave our room keys in the bedroom, as nobody to hand keys in to, or anywhere safe to leave them. Disgusted, as had paid for breakfast in with price of the room. I did private message them on their Facebook page, explaining all the above, which they read quite quickly after posting, but didn't even have the good manners to reply or offer an apology for their absence at breakfast!!! Very poor & let themselves down, would not stay here again & expected a lot more, judging by the seemingly "good" comments on here.

We visit the nearby supermarket almost weekly and drive past this lovely, well appointed country pub. Why haven't we visited before? No idea, but we decided on the spur of the moment to have lunch, AND WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED!A very nice, clean, tidy and well maintained roadside Inn on the outskirts of Frome, Somerset (F1 fans will know Frome as former World Champion JB's home town ;-))Decor is in keeping with an English country pub, but certainly not dull or dismal. Staff are bright, breezy and friendly and on the ball. There is a large car park (free).Quite an extensive menu listing most, if not all, of the usual pub grub items and quite a few 'haute cuisine' selections too. The Daily Specials board was impressive and the bar was well stocked too, with a selection of local and 'visitor' beers on tap.Our meal was cooked to order and arrived in good time. We both had the sandwich option, which presented well-filled sandwiches (choice of bread), green salad and chips (french fries), with an excellent beer to wash it all down. Price was very reasonable.

sunday lunch was very disappointing. I ordered the Sunday roast with beef. Unfortunately my slices of beef were very tough and did not appear to be have been sliced from a freshly cooked joint. It seemed to have been frozen slices of beet, defrosted and heated up but if the chef/owner can confirm this either way i am happy for his view. It was tough regardless how it was cooked. On any new visit my wife and I give a score out of 10. My wife gave 6 I gave a disappointing 4. We had high hopes of this visit but i doubt we will return.
