Diabolical. Visited with a wheelchair. If it was easy to get back out, we wouldn't have stayed. Wheelchair access (unsignposted) is via the rear entrance, across a rough stone and shale carpark and up a steep ramp (struggled to push the chair up here as it was so steep) - only to be met by another ramp at a locked door with a 2" step - so not disabled friendly. Once inside (through insistence that all our group would get inside) we found more steps, no disabled or accessible toilets, and the only way out the same as we came in - this time down a steep slope, across the rough car park and up a steep road - personal opinion - don't touch the place. It's not worth it, attitudes are disgusting, lack of help or support - we were greeted at the door by a lady asking if we wanted drinks or food whilst trying to work out how to even get inside, I think we were expected to sit outside as we had a wheelchair with us, certainly won't be visiting again - as toilet facilties were not available, we went over the road to another pub - they demonstrate exactly how it should be done!! No wonder the cornishman was so empty and depressing inside. EDIT Following Colins reply, not one of us has a son with black hair, we never met a man or saw a man called Colin, nor were we there at the time stated. It was not windy and we did not sit on a wall. I would suspect Colins recollection is somewhat different as he was not present at the time and therefore cannot respond accurately given his lack of presence. If, out of all of what Colin has said, any of it is true, it can only be that he was sat upstairs watching out, in which case as the owner I would have expected him to see any apparent struggle and assist, not sit back and just watch - not a very proactive, helpful and caring owner as he appears to try to imply. Colin, I would be very, very careful making up false responses to reviews like you have here, as it only weakens any response you do make, having to resort to lies. With several witnesses who saw the struggles who can counter your false claims, your reputation amongst locals is already at an all time low, with former staff and many previous customers all now choosing to frequent the King Arthur opposite you - as do we now, interestingly they also have an old building, indeed we are stopping in one in tintagel, however they are still easily able to accommodate the needs of wheelchair users without blatant lies, false claims and humiliation. Colin has, on top of everything, proved himself a liar as we did eat, 4 meals and 4 drinks, so we did see the ramp inside after climbing the step from the conservatory to the main entrance area. We also did not attempt to leave via the ramp at the locked door - a door that, despite knowing it might be needed, a door which, like many thousands of UPVC doors can be shut without being locked, was locked - Colins words. I am not the only person to review with a negative review Colin, taking a look at your other reviews, many, many people also review negatively for the poor customer service amongst other issues - one you are demonstrating in your blatant lies to try and save face to keep positive reviews.

Wow, staying from West Sussex so went for a visit today and so very pleased we did. The fish and chips was amazing with tartare sauce. Son had 6oz cheese burger and said it was so very taste. The service from the lady behind the bar was very warm and welcoming and with a smile. The young man that bought the food out was very happy in his work and to find out the fish was local was even better. Dogs were very welcome and I love the wood tables very high polished and just beautiful. Met the lady’s nephew Aubrey and what a little cracker he was. Thank you for looking after us we had an amazing lunch with you xx

We ate here when staying locally, myself, my wife, and my sister & brother in-laws. We'd phoned to book a table earlier in the day to be told it wasn't necessary (it is off season after all) and there were plenty of takes to choose from. The car park is small but there are public car parks nearby. We received a very warm welcome then were served by a very friendly barman. Having chosen a table we perused the menu before going to the bar to place the order. Again the staff were friendly and accommodated our requests. Generous portions of food were delivered a short while later. We all enjoyed our choices and cleared our plates. The gammon came with a wedge of pineapple, including leaves which was usual, but the fruit was sweet and tasty. The only negative comment was a lack of a side (salad?) with the scampi & chips. We all agreed the chips were excellent.

We visited today for a meal and we will never return. The lady behind the bar (greasy hair and tattoos) was extremely rude and made derogatory comments about the customers. We were made to feel as if we were an inconvenience, and despite trying to engage her in conversation, she sighed, rolled her eyes and completely ignored us. We ate our food and immediately left. As we were doing so, we then heard her making comments about our party to another member of staff. To anyone considering visiting here, if a 'Karen's Diner' experience is what you're seeking, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, stay clear!!!! I see from previous comments that we're not the first to experience this 'welcome' when visiting The Cornishman Inn. Perhaps management need to take notice before their business is ran into the ground. I only wish we had read these comments before wasting our time, patience and money!

We decided on the Cornish man for dinner, there are quite a few places in that area. And wow! The food was amazing! I can't remember the last time I had lamb and steak that tasted that good. I wish we went there sooner and not on our last night! And the portions are huge. I can't fault the place. The staff were lovely, and service was great. I even had a peak in one of the rooms, it looked so nice and comfy. If I'm ever back in the area again, I will most definitely be going here for my meals.

Stopped here for lunch as from the street the premises looked good. However service at the bar was slow and the member of staff rude and uninterested. We then waited for around 40 minutes before our food arrived and that was only after my wife asking staff where our food was. The food when it arrived appeared to have been standing around for a while as the sandwich filling had soaked into the bread making it soggy. The chips whilst hot had not been drained properly and were dripping in grease. There was only one waitress who was rushing around and doing her best to do numerous tasks. The outdoor sitting area could also do with sweep and wash down. Food and experience was not good value for money.

An Exceptional Dining Experience at The Cornishmens Inn** My family and I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Cornishmens Inn in Tintagel, and I can confidently say it was one of the most delightful experiences we've had. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere that perfectly complemented the charm of this beautiful village. The service was impeccable—attentive, friendly, and professional. The staff made us feel welcome from the start, and the barman was particularly helpful and knowledgeable, adding to the overall experience. As for the food, it was nothing short of sublime. My wife and I enjoyed the Chicken and Asparagus with Hollandaise Sauce, which was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. Each bite was a testament to the care and attention that goes into the dishes here. Our daughter opted for the Hunter's Chicken, which she absolutely loved. The Cornishmens Inn truly offers the complete package: outstanding service, a cozy yet vibrant atmosphere, and food that rivals some of the best we've had. We’ll certainly be returning,

Small room, older hotel with pub/restaurant in English pub style. We ate fish & chips for dinner. OK. What lifts the whole place is the breakfast. The cold (yoghurt, fruit, juice, sandwich) you pick yourself. The hot food is chosen from a long menu. We ate Benedict with perfect poached eggs and an equally perfect hollandaise, respectively a vegetable plate with halloumi, pesto, tomato, potatoes, eggs... The breakfast definitely gets top marks. Otherwise average.

We didn't stay at the hotel, we were visiting the area for the day. Myself and my two sons took the walk to see King Arthur at the top of the ruins, after making it back my sons were deciding what they wanted to eat when we took a chance and came into the Cornishman. We were met by the most kind hearted woman, who made sure that my children had a glass of water before taking an order and kept the kitchen open for our order whilst they decided what they wanted. The service was incredible, the food was amazing and my family felt really cared for. Working in hospitality myself I can be quite picky. Popped in and asked about GF options for my mother in law and the lovely lady was very accommodating. Started talking about Eat out to help out and just general conversation. I’m so sorry I didn’t get the lovely ladies name but she was a lovely blonde lady behind the bar. She was a lovely host and was had lovely customer service. Now the food. As I say I can be picky. I ordered the burger to play it safe and my gosh it was the BEST burger I have had in a very very long time. My partner had the Steak and Tintagel Ale pie which he thoroughly enjoyed and my mother in law had the GF fish and chips. All left very happy and full belly’s. Cannot wait to return to this amazing place. Nice to go somewhere that shows good proper hospitality. Well done all round.

The room was basic, but expected that for price paid. Friendly welcome from angry barmaid, Donna!! Lovely young lady showed me to my room with a thorough explanation of facilities. Room as expected. Basic, but clean. Tea/coffee/milk/sugar and kettle, hairdryer. Full length mirror in room and plenty of storage/sockets. Room not cleaned throughout stay. Not too bothered about that as only there Mon to Fri but would have expected supplies of drinks replenished. Chose to leave early due to traffic and told to leave the key in the door!!! Chose to stay in a pub as potentially poor weather (it was horrendous 😢), so liked the idea of being able to have a meal and then nightcap without having to walk elsewhere.....no chance. Pub like the Marie celeste after 9pm? (Apart from a young lady (Harriet) who seemed to own the place and sat outside smoking/gossiping all night? Not unpleasant but very unprofessional. Saving grace was King Arthur Arms pub opposite. Clean, welcoming staff, good priced and the most amazing food. Breakfast was fine. Basic but OK for the price. Wouldn't return.

We ate here at least 3 times during our stay in Tintagel. The food is delicious! Everything we tried was spot on, from the: 'proper job' mixed grill (see pic) to a full rack of ribs, muscles, gammon steak, ribeye steak, and the chicken with asparagus. I had the mixed grill twice, and it was beautifully cooked and had everything a mixed grill should have - lamb chop, steak, ribs, sausage, gsmmon, chips and a fried egg. The staff were friendly and helpful. The prices are good for the amount you get and the quality. Eg mixed grill was £24; other meals were around £16, £18 for a full rack of ribs. The pub it's self is big with plenty of seating inside and out. There is a terrace area and also a beer garden with a play area. There is also a car park just behind the pub and it's just near Tintagel Castle and all the shops. I, most definitely, would recommend at least one visit to the Cornishman, but I advise to pencil in at least two visits to try another delight from the menu. Very good pub/restaurant!

Be prepared to be discouraged from the meal you want if you visit here. Upon arrival to the bar we were greeted by a very lovely woman who proceeded to discourage us from the drinks we wanted, complaining about the price and taste and offering to make us something on a whim herself. She then said the meal I wanted to order was boring and that she’d tried it previously and didn’t think much of it, so encouraged me to try other options. Again we had to remind her (after reading the menu ourselves) we just wanted what we’d already decided upon. I appreciate the sentiment, but didn’t enjoy being pushed on what to have. Other than that, good food, lovely fresh fish, and great decor.

The bar lady said she didn’t like working this late and to hurry as the kitchen shut at eight. Food was plonked in front of us our coats still on as it was freezing in there, garlic bread was like the cheep stuff you get in the local store and was cold. Burger was ok my husbands steak and ale pie was just puff and cold liquid. The breakfast tables were being laid as we sat at the table. One lady even had it laid around her before she got up and left. Staff all came out of the kitchen and make a deal about going leaving the bar tender on her own. The pineapple came as a quarter of a whole pineapple that we had to hack into to get any flavour with the dish. There was no salad dressing either. All in all, disappointing.

The staff goes above and beyond to meet your needs! This pub had such good vibes I will make the trip again just to come back and visit this pub! Come in for a pint or a cocktail and let Joe and the other lovely staff take care of you! Cheers!

We stayed two days at The Cornishman while visiting North Cornwall. All aspects of our stay were excellent. The room, corridors and dining area were scrupulously clean. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. The menu was varied and the cooking high quality. Finally, Tintagel Ale which was very well cared for, has a new convert. Highly recommended, we will definitely be back!!

We came for dinner with 5 people. Food was excellent, came quickly and all tasted fresh and hot. Good prices for all the food and drinks, especially with the quality and portion sizes. The only minor negative is that the main dining area looks rather barren and without character! But this won't ruin anyone experience.

Stayed at this pub’s accommodation for a couple of nights. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. The room at the rear of the establishment was quiet at night and with a comfortable bed it gave us a good nights sleep. There was ample tea and coffee in the room too. The car park at the rear was a bonus. Breakfast was a freshly cooked English and was very good. Overall a nice pub with decent accommodation and a friendly atmosphere.

Lunch took an hour to come, the allergy order came out with gluten baguette, was remedied with frozen gluten free. Literally couldn’t eat it. Didn’t see anyone wipe any tables and took ages to clear dirty plates from others. Toilets were filthy. Felt very disappointed especially when saw other much nicer looking places afterwards

Friendly pub with a garden, dog friendly, they offered two good local ales (from the Tintagel brewery) Arthurs and Gold, the menu is full of classic pub staples, fish and chips, steak and ale pie, burgers and so on, very decent portions and on our visit swiftly prepared.

A great location and good value for money, especially the breakfast which was simple food done very well. The room was comfortable although expect a few creaks as it's an old building. Very helpful and friendly staff, will definitely stay again.

If you’re going around Kingsand or stay nearby, you must at least visit this historic pub. We had cornish pastries which were very lovely and massive as well as some drinks. The place was very beautiful as the pub is seafront. We went there when it was raining quite heavily and windy but i bet that it would be very nice when it’s summer or spring.
