OMG, expensive!!! 1 Guinness, a double rum and coke and 1 packet of crisps - over £17. What the heck. Never have we paid that amount other than London. The ladies had no lock and the seat on the loo wasn't attached so came off. Used to go there every weekend years ago. It's a NOPE now I'm afraid.

Nice place to go for a drink locally. However the skinny girl wearing black usually is really rude with customers that are not English and customers that are non English women particularly. She is the only reason we don’t want to visit this pub or order more drinks. It would be good if this can be improved.

Lovely listed building pub set by the river with lots of outdoor seating and sunset spots. Interior needs an update but the local atmosphere and friendly staff make up for it 10 fold. Food is decent. Very bright lights over seating areas, could do with dimming as the evening goes on. Beer selection is great. Wine selection bad. Overall, much appreciated local river pub with lovely staff.

We stopped here for fish and chips, curry and fried chicken. All of which were just about acceptable. What you'd expect from a chain pub in this location. The fish was not overcooked, but the batter was undercooked in places. Peas were cooked properly. Chips were mushy oven chips. Sauce bottles had little tiny nozzles so that the end came off when using. Curry was ok. Fairly bland and not spicy but nothing terrible. Chicken bites and sweet potato fries were cooked correctly. Still tasted like they came out of a packet, but at least they hadn't been burned. If you're coming here you probably know what kind of food you're getting anyway. I didn't go by choice the first time and I wouldn't return.

Very disappointing burger. I was having lunch with friends for a short time only so didn't waste time and ruin the mood by complaining in person, plus I was hungry and it was edible. The website describes the cheeseburger as "6oz beef burger, cheese, lettuce, beef tomato and burger sauce £10.95...in a sesame topped bun". What I got was a burger covered with burger sauce in a brioche bun, no lettuce or tomato, and the price was £12.95. Overpriced and underwhelming. Nice pint though.

Came here for evening meal with my daughter. Booked in advance for early evening and found we needed to since most tables were taken by people ha I guess an evening drink. The menu is rather limited and basic with a couple of ‘specials’ which were nothing special. There was a good choice of beers and they tasted good. The quality of the food was good and the service very good apart from the fact that you couldn’t have a tab and had to pay for everything each time you ordered, which is frustrating. We had a calamari starter with a chicken burger and sausage and mash with a wine and 2 beers which came to £45 which is pretty good value for money

Called in today for lunch. Been there many times before so I thought I knew what to expect. Went to the bar, served straight away, my wife and mother sat down. The surface of the table was sticky all over. The whole place smelt of toilet cleaning fluid. So strong! We looked at the menu expecting there to be the usual choice. Under MAINS there were 3 things, sausage and mash, curry or a salad. There were several different types of burger but that was it. Previous

I have just had what I thought was a very tasty Red Thai Curry with chicken. Veggie version was available too. I am in no way a Thai curry expert but was very! tasty with nice rice, I thought and gave a tip as I left for overall real cheer from my visit. Last one several years back being from another corner of Bristol Northwest. - Very content indeed I was and finding the pub getting back on its feet, a great historic local down by the Avon fishing quarters of centuries past and looking over to Pill Creek with boats tied up ... over the other side of the Avon. Nice pot of tea plus biscoff biscuit for £2.45. Other cheaper and kids meals options available than the curry. Sunday visit open until 6 pm all afternoon. Seating outside, before 17th next week.... in nice quiet corner of the city and suburbs, as it is here much of the time quiet and away from things I think it is for a quiet trip here. And further along a green park area to walk and for kids to play etc. Walk by the Avon River banks with views.

I regret not causing more of a fuss last year about this. Ordered a cottage pie, it arrived and looked great......but found a piece of chipped of ceramic plate inside the pie. I told the staff who brought me a new meal......but that was it, they didn't seem that concerned about it. It's a shame as I liked going here with people, after the poor treatment I will never eat out here again. If they had actually offered the meal for free or apologised I wouldn't have felt so mugged off. Considering the serious health and safety issue I raised they did little to rectify the issue. While I still drink occasionally here I don't want to risk eating again, such a shame as like I said before the quality of the food itself is fine.

Service was extremely slow even for our drinks, due to covid you have to order from our tables. We waited over an hour for our food, was not to by staff when we came in and he certainly did not look like in was packed at all. When we asked how long our food would be, we just got food is extremely slow with no explanation really. But when it finally arrived it was very nice, the only thing I would say is the cutlery was served in a wooden box which they looked slung in there with sauces on top. Looked abit dingy really feel that should be looked at especially cause of covid and being able to clean them properly. Some of the waitresses was really nice and quite helpful but one tall girl with ripped jeans was quite rude. Was not pleasant when we asked to order some more drinks and I heard be very rude to another table. Which I felt was really out of order. Not sure I would rush back which seems a shame as food was quite nice when we finally got it. Staff could do with being more polite and better customer service.

Still a nice roast but only half as good as it used to be. Bring back stacking the individual plates bring back the slabs of meat this was by far one of Bristol’s best roasts but as soon as the chef (Rico?) left the food went downhill the staff are still brilliant and always feel welcomed but I now go here about 75-90% less than I used too and almost as a last resort whereas it was the one I went out of my way to go too. The Lamps is no doubt the best pub in Shire, let’s face it, there’s not much competition. The Lamps roast used to be one of the best roasts around, then they changed owners and it went down hill massively. We returned last week after we noticed they had a new menu and I must say the roast dinner was a lot better. My only criticism would be that we only had 4 small roasties each, but a huge improvement non the less. Overall It’s a great place to go to socialise and enjoy a few beers and pub food. It’s great that they swap their ales over every week or so also. I just wish one day they’ll go back to the incredible pies they used to do!

Had Sunday roast here today & honestly not great value for money. £10.95 for a single course sunday lunch is not the cheapest & sorry to say the price tag did not live up to the quality of food. I had roast beef & it was as tough as old shoe leather despite the chief bigging up the mustard & red wine glaze it was cooked in, but the rest of the meal was piping hot. Drinks are expensive & overall a disappointment from previous meals I have had there. For a Sunday roast I would not recommend due to the poor quality of the meat & poor value for money. Really sad as the setting is perfect for a lovely meal, but very disappointing food from a chief who could not say enough how good his food was. Sorry guys won't be be back due to the poor quality of the food & that's such a shame.

I am writing this not to insult the pub. I googled this pub and thought the location was great. nice story behind how the pub reopened after a long closure. I arrived with my gf and thought wow it's going to be our go to pub. Nice seating area and views. to be honest I just wanted to support local pubs. We both ordered guinness and thought that they're bit pricey at £4.30. But it's ok because the pub looks great and thought we would spend loads of time there. Then we ordered fish and chips which I thought was very expensive over £10. I thought this must be an amazing fish and chips. To be honest I have never paid so much for fish and chips. It took about 45mins to come, fair enough. I was just so shocked on how small the fish was. it was funny because we both ordered fish and it seemed like the chef has cut the fish into half and serve into 2 plates. The chips was great but I guess they got them from Lidl. Such a small portion for £10 worth of fish and chips. Really nothing special at all. We left right after the meal still feeling hungry. I actually ordered takeaway on the way back. I don't see this pub doing great in the future considering George Inn at shirehampton is so much better and with sport TV. Bad experience, dissapointed. No wonder they don't get good reviews. Just genuine opinion..

Great views. A bit out of the way if your not local. Friendly barmaid. Ordered food, one steak pie, the other chicken, both good, piping hot and tasty. Chips were good but few of them. Gravy in boat was like coloured water. Ceiliacs beware: The tomato sauce on the table was labelled Heinz however we were 100% certain that it was not, very runny and acidic, the bottle label clearly looking uniformly stained, the contents open and full! (Note, I'm not a ceiliac myself however 'acutely aware due to family members who are).

It is now the most expensive pub in the area. They raise the price for a pint of Guinness from £4.00 to 4.30. when they reopen the pub the prices was slightly higher than other pubs in the area but now they charge average £0.70 more than other local pubs for a Guinness. The portions of the food was good when they just started. Now you have to get fish and chips to get yòur belly filled after you had a meal. It is better to have a meal in town. prices are the same. Really a shame. and you get the feeling that nobody care what the outside of the pub look like. Overfilled ashtrays and cigarette buts everywhere outside. If you have a dog or small children do not go there. They really could keep it clean. Really a shame.

Dined at Waves whilst visiting a good friend who lives in Penzance. The first thing I noticed when walking in was the cleanliness of the dining area. We were immediately greeted and seated. I chose the Newlyn fish and chips………what a treat cooked to perfection and washed down with chilled pinot Grigio. The service was both friendly and professional and made for a great dining experience. Bonus: dog friendly.
