The best restaurants serving British food in South East

Great food and company What a wonderful evening we spent at The Blue Ship on Saturday night. A truly local, warm and welcoming place. I’ve not been there in too long a time however I felt like I’d not left. The fire was lit and Sophie Bailey, Jackie and I chatted together like old friends while Simon Bailey served up the most delicious Brie wedges followed by the best burgers in Sussex. If you are a regular or not, we are so lucky to have such a great, traditional pub on our doorstep and I for one won’t leave it so long till my next visit. #localbusiness #countrypub — feeling welcome at Blue Ship.

Lovely friendly, cosy & welcoming cafe. Food & service first class. Fabulous breakfast & tasty cream tea. The staff have a folder with the history of the area which they kindly gave us to look at.

Excellent restaurant with great service in a cool setting. This is a Michelin star restaurant that has a tasting menu of either 5 or 8 courses. It's set in an... Old bank... They've kept some of the old fittings and the atmosphere is great. The vault is now the wine cellar. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the food was excellent.

Exceptionally good food, way above even normal gastropub food. Definitely worth a detour. Charming service too.

En primer lugar, The Brighton ES UN PUB no un restaurante y NO sirve comida. Dicho esto, los clientes son bienvenidos a traer comida - hay una excelente tienda de pescado y patatas fritas cerca. Hay una buena mezcla de personas, incluyendo residentes locales, turistas, personas esperando un tren o bajando de la estación de tren. El estado de ánimo del pub cambia según el día y la hora - un gran lugar para una pinta tranquila, reunirse con amigos y participar en concursos de pub o escuchar música en vivo, dependiendo del día. Soy un 'habitual' en el pub y lo hice mi local hace 20 años y nunca he mirado atrás. El personal es muy amable y amable. Great little place this , food was delicious , so fresh we had a few sharing dishes and all were spot on , the staff were great too Very reasonable a must visit when in the area

The Junipers and I cannot believe how amazing this cafe is, Oh we will be back! Now my Isa told me about 'The Tennis Cafe' and how the Girls and I should make it apart of our weekly cafe rotation, now after the absolutely divine afternoon we had I think you have become our new Monday cafe!! The beautiful young ladies working the cafe are so attentive and with how busy it is you'd think they'd be flabbergasted but no! Absolutely not! on the ball they were! what an amazing group to be looking after such a cafe!

First time visiting here. Lovely place and very clean. We had gammon and a cheesy flatbread with chicken - couldn't fault the food, absolutely gorgeous!! Staff were friendly enough but I feel a smile or two would improve the welcome

Lovely food but a very loud and chaotic atmosphere. Staff were loudly dragging tables across the room and a couple of other tables were so loud that we couldn't hear each other speak. Shame as the meal was very good.

Wonderful place for a light bite. Lovely staff. Been going there for 8 years. We will definitely be back later in the year

A superb place for breakfast or brunch and they do great café lattes too. The menu includes an all in cooked breakfast and a "boastie" .. quoted as "awesome" using the original meaning of in awe, as in rather scary.
