We had a fantastic pub hack with 15 people including adults, children, dogs and 6 horses at the Blue Ship today! Sophie and Jackie were amazing at accommodating us, making us a space to hold the horses and reserving tables in the lovely garden for the parents before the riders arrived. The service was amazing and the food delicious! We love this pub so much for its family friendliness and hospitality 🤗🐎🥰

Stayed at the campsite adjoining the Pub, for an annual “dads camp” . Lovely setting, decent clean toilets ( no showers but that is made clear on their website) and food provided ( burgers and hotdogs) excellent. Nothing not to like really and only regret is that I didn’t go into the pub so return trip with family planned!

Another delicious Sunday roast lunch today with all the traditional trimmings. Service, as always was warm and friendly. Although the pub was busy, the food came out within a very reasonable time scale, no mean feat when cooked fresh. Well done Sophie, Simon and family for providing us with another enjoyable outing. We’ll be back again soon !

The pub is charming looking like a postcard from the outside. Inside is extremely cosy with all original features making it feel like you have stepped back in time. The only pub I have ever visited with a hatch instead of a bar! It serves delicious home made food with all ingredients sourced locally. The atmosphere is unique and long tables encourage lovely conversations with fellow diners. The couple who run the pub are extremely pleasant and kind and the service is brilliant.

Purely by chance I found myself in need of some short-term accommodation in West Sussex during the Bank Holiday weekend of August 29th--31st. Not an easy situation I can assure all readers. A frantic on-line search yielded very little! So! The inspired solution-Camping! This is how I came to find THE BLUE SHIP...It is featured on the Pitch-Up Website. One of the most straight forward accommodation portals I have ever encountered. Imagine all the creature comforts of a fine hostelry with the simplicity of a campsite next door-Heaven! There really should be more places like this. What a good idea...no more stumbling down country lanes darkened or otherwise in search of a distant pub, where the locals could be indifferent or otherwise. So! I point of fact what makes the BLUE SHIP very unique is it is very friendly. I was struck by this at once when I noticed a miniature easel with a little blue board with my first name on it and the time I was set to arrive on it. I was greeted by and gestured to sit by Jacky...perhaps the nicest person I have ever encountered in the hospitality industry. This most important characteristic for those active in the licensing trade is also shared in great abundance by her daughter Sophie. Both her and her husband Simon are incredibly hard working people. Simon whom I christened Simon the Pie Man, prepares every dish freshly. Every one of the great range of burgers this 1850's hostelry serves is prepared from scratch . All the food is sourced locally and everything is made on the premises. I had three meals in total during my stay and everyone was a tasty filling delight. Do be aware that there is a really fine range of burgers available served on slate with fries as well as a comprehensive selection of other main dishes including curry and indeed a comprehensive selection of Daily Specials...All reasonably priced and excellent value for money. It seems to me that a vast reasonably priced range of drinks were also available. In my case I would very strongly recommend a really delightful local cider! In terms of layout, THE BLUE SHIP consists of two adjoining rooms. The first of these is a brick floored oak-beamed low ceilinged snug little space with a small servery facing the entrance way. I had a real sense that locals and visitors mingled in an extremely convivial and good humoured fashion. There seemed to be a constant trail of walkers with dogs in and out. The outer area of the establishment is surrounded by wind breaking foliage and consists of a fine play area and a quaint garden area with a number of scattered table and one incredibly friendly structure! A circular garden table with circular seating fixed around it! As good an idea for a pleasant gathering as it was in the days of the Round Table. So! For anyone looking forward to a very pleasant retreat either as a camper I cannot hesitate but to recommend THE BLUE SHIP! I cannot wait to return...Thank You!

The blue Ship is out in the country on its own so you will need to drive/cycle/walk to get any shopping etc.The campsite is just a field with one water tap, thats it, nothing else, you have use of the pub toilets when the pub is open, and is reflected in the price, note there is no mains hookup either. If it is a blazing hot day there is virtually no shade either except in the far corner of the field from a couple of overhanging trees. The owners made us very welcome, we ate at the pub, again note, there was on the night we stayed no entry into the pub for drinking /eating, on the single night I stayed it was a case of reserving an outside table only, and ordering drinks and food from a table set up by the front door, as it happens it was a lovely warm night and was most enjoyable to be outside, however not sure what you would do if the weather was bad.I had simple burger and chips and it was was very good, my mate had gluten free fish and chips, the gluten free menu can be extensive but at the moment is a little limited, however as he hadn't had fish and chips for a long while because of gluten issues he enjoyed it immensely. Price wise for food/drinks, perhaps a little on the high side, but the owners make you feel very welcome and it is a lovely setting, It was ideal for a one night stopover, or maybe a weekend but it is a way from any shops etc. recommended for a single night/weekend? yes.

I visited The Blue Ship with my husband and two of our friends for a much needed evening out! The booking process was smooth and when we arrived we had a perfect table outside and we immediately saw our reservation on the table. Despite social distancing and safety measures in place ordering drinks and food was extremely well organised. The menu is perfectly balanced with something for everyone's food choices with daily specials and we were delighted to see that there weren't millions of dishes which is always an indication of truly freshly created meals. I had the beer battered camembert to start and the smokey burger for main course. They were absolutely delicious, simply served and the burger was the best I have ever tasted. Of course, they are truly home made. The wonderful staff, lovely Sophie and lovely Sophie's mum were the most hospitable hosts you could wish to meet. Nothing was too much trouble and they were rushed off their feet, flat out! I cannot recommend the Blue Ship highly enough for a relaxed night out with friends for amazing food and drinks and impeccable service. We can't wait to return very soon. Thank you Sophie for a terrific night.

We camped here for one night with a group of friends. Its a really nice easy and relaxing place. It was very easy to book the campsite, eating in and general communication with the owners was very easy and helpful.

Had the best weekend camping with my family at the Blue Ship. Everything was perfect, it was so lovely to do something ‘normal’ again. The pub had gone over and above on putting in Covid precautions so we felt very safe at all times. Food, drink and service as always was brilliant.

Since re-opening post lockdown I came to visit for dinner and camping. The dinner was fantastic, excellent food and perfect camping location. It felt very safe as they have clearly put up signage and had plenty of hand sanitiser. They had also undertaken additional cleaning too so was very impressed! Overall a really enjoyable stay and would highly recommend going for dinner at the very least because the food was top notch

I cannot tell you how excited we were when we got the news that our favourite pub was finally reopening on the 4th July! Oh how we have missed going there for their great food and beer during lockdown!! We have enjoyed their takeaways throughout but it’s just not the same as sitting in the pub with a proper pint so we were the first at the door on Saturday! They are operating a reduced menu for now which is completely understandable but everything is still as delicious as it always was and there were still a few chefs specials available too, including their great homemade curry which is what we both had and it was fabulous. The team have done an amazing job preparing for the reopening, very clear signage, hand cleansing facilities, tables all placed to allow for social distancing and extra cleaning - we felt totally safe and looked after. We’ve already booked in for next weekend, it was so lovely to be out again and feel some normality has returned! Thanks guys!

Having been cooking every day for the last week or so I decided that I would order a takeaway on Saturday night from The Blue Ship. The order was easy to place on their email and then I was allowed a time slot so that social distancing was adhered to. The food was ready for when I arrived and was still piping hot and so enjoyable when I got home. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal cooked to perfection. Thank you for this meal and I will be back for another homemade takeaway in a couple of weeks.

We enjoyed a fabulous takeaway on Saturday evening, as did most of the community. Simon and Sophie did an amazing job, everyone was given a collection time, a counter had been set up in the porch and it all ran like clockwork ensuring everyone was safe during this strange and difficult time. Sophie even did deliveries before they opened for collection so that their regular customers who fall in to the vulnerable category could still enjoy a takeaway. Well done guys, great idea for the community and excellent food as always. Count us in for next time!

The steak night on Saturday was fantastic, an unusual variety of steaks, homemade sauces and all the extras you’d expect to choose from. I enjoyed the Kangaroo steak, one of our party had the buffalo and the others had delicious rump - all cooked to perfection. The deserts were excellent too, the poached pear with mulled wine sorbet was simply delicious. A different food theme night each month is what they are planning and if the brexit night and Steak night are anything to go by then we can’t wait for the next one! Thanks guys, another great night. We’ll see you soon!

We enjoyed a fantastic evening on Friday for “Brexit Night”, Simon had created a British themed set menu with either two courses or three. Great value too. We managed to squeeze in three courses, the potted shrimp and the kidney starters were both equally delicious and for mains we enjoyed the beef cobbler and the beer battered haddock. Pud had to be homemade treacle tart, one of my all time favourites! It was a wonderful atmosphere on Friday, the pub was full and everyone was in great spirit! Thank you for a lovely evening!
