The best restaurants serving British food in South East

Hace 3 horas Nuevo ERRÓNEAMENTE ACUSADO Y EXCLUIDO. He estado viniendo a este pub durante unos 30 años para comer y beber. Probablemente cada dos semanas. Fui ayer con mi hija. Estábamos reuniendo amigos para una comida. El encargado se me acercó y me dijo que no era bienvenido en el establecimiento. Me sorprendió y me preguntó por qué, dijo que miembros del personal me habían identificado como involucrado en un incidente a principios de año, bailando en la mesa y comenzando problemas y que había que llamar a la policía. Dijo que era yo o que la persona se parecía a mí, así que claramente había un elemento de duda. NO FUI YO. Pedí hablar con los miembros del personal que me identificaron y me dijeron que no. Le expliqué que no era yo y que había estado viniendo al pub durante años y de hecho estaba allí dos semanas antes y varias veces antes desde principios de año, así que ¿por qué no se me pidió que me fuera antes si era yo. ¿Por qué dejar que meses después del incidente me lo impidan? Tengo 50 años y tengo artritis y no hay manera de que me ponga a bailar en una mesa, no hay música allí para bailar de todos modos. El gerente de turno no lo tenía. Pedí ver el CCTV que dijo que no se podía ver en una semana. Dije que si llamaban a la policía seguramente tenían un nombre de la persona y podían comprobar mi identificación. Me dijo que no, que era completamente extraño y que me humillaban y acusaban de algo que no había hecho delante de mi hijo, mis amigos y sus hijos y un pub extremadamente ocupado. Fue muy molesto. Traté de explicarlo y el gerente de turno nos sacó y dijo que nos prohibieron. También se negó a dar su nombre cuando le pregunté. También había pedido bebidas y me dijo que recibiría un reembolso en 3 días. Estoy tan molesto y decepcionado de que me traten así en un pub en el que he estado durante muchos años.

Awful experience. Over an hour wait for food ( no prior warning given) Child's chips arrived covered in salt and inedible. When I complained I was told the chef seasons the chips before they leave the kitchen. I pointed out than non of the six adult meals we had ordered had salt on them, waiter just shrugged and walked off. Such a beautiful setting but the service was shocking. Won't be returning.

Really disappointed by today's visit. We were served by person who didn't know what they doing& took forever to order. Difficult to order as different meals served at different times we were refused brunch at 11.45 even tho the menu said serving till 3pm. The food was overpriced and very basics. I was overcharged and wrong change given ! Altogether by over £11! (I was later refunded and correct change given when we brought it to the attention to one of the staff memeber). The loaded fries supposed to have spring onions and dressing but arrived without! Cutlery was dirty! Honestly the worst experience of eating out I ever had and was regretting I choose this place for mother's day lunch. The building is in need of refurbishment and major repair - there are cracs in walls and leakages from roof. You looking at wires, construction and dirty roof while having your food. Very unpleasant. We definitely won't be visiting again.

Buena parada para comida, bebida o alojamiento durante la noche en el Camino del Támesis. Hermosa ubicación a la derecha en el río. Hospitalidad superior de Peter y Wendy - realmente se siente bienvenido. Habitaciones cómodas y limpias. Recomendaría el bistec de Peter y el pastel de cerveza, estaba delicioso. Excelente desayuno para vernos en nuestro camino

Same company but so different from Aldermaston. Relaxed atmosphere with comfort food. Macaroni cheese and fries. Macaroni best I’ve had, except mum’s.

Over charged us on beer pint . Only one toilet per gender which is very inconvenient when the place has few people

Vi esta paloma frente a la tienda. Tengo que decir que es lookmaxxing. También había una Paloma - Pandilla que trató de robarme, pero yo los envolví y luego los cociné y me los comí.

update 2025; This is now very much a run-of-the-mill garden centre cafe, which is such a crying shame as it was SO special when Spade and Spoon ran it in the old (pre-fire) building. We used to drive miles out of our way to pop in for their extraordinary cakes and proper barista coffee. It was very hard to find that level of excellence outside of city centre fancy cafes. Cecil's kitchen is perfectly fine but the menu, food, service and experience is very canteen like. Hard not to be disappointed now we know what we're missing!

We visited Alfriston specifically to go to Badgers. Supposed to be open on Wednesdays but not open. Furthermore the sign seen in a photo on their website saying ‘Badgers tea house and garden’ now says only ‘Badgers’. Has it closed down? Is it seasonal? Wasted our time anyway. Had been looking forward to a cream tea for ages!

Last night I attended the Nags Head with my partner for my birthday. I was served by Jennifer who made sure she made it extra special for me and remained friendly and polite throughout the whole dining experience. Will definitely be returning after this exceptional service!

Super rude staff. I got a steak that was clearly well done after I ordered it pink, politely asked to change it and they gaslighted me saying it was pink- when clearly wasn’t. Refused to change it. Seating is uncomfortable and getting a waiter to come to ask for anything is impossible

Awful in every respect. Service, atmosphere, menu, all bad. Food was swimming in grease. Staff didn’t care. They just didn’t want to be there. Never going back.

Después de haber escuchado algunos buenos comentarios sobre los Aliados en el pasado, fuimos el sábado por la noche para tomar una copa rápida. Un puñado de personas estaban pegadas al rugby así que fuimos al bar más pequeño. Un miembro del personal vino a buscar algo, así que sabía que mi esposo estaba esperando en el bar. Así que esperó... y esperó. Nadie vino a servirnos, así que nos fuimos. Mirando en el otro bar, 2 empleados del bar estaban igualmente absortos viendo rugby. Ninguno hizo ningún intento de ofrecer servicio. Gran manera de dirigir un pub!
