Dickens Bar and Brasserie in Reading

Over charged us on beer pint . Only one toilet per gender which is very inconvenient when the place has few people

Al tratar de decidir dónde comer, llegamos al arco del Hotel George y encontramos un menú en la pared que era variado y un buen precio, así que decidimos pasar a almorzar. Ciertamente no nos decepcionó. Tuve tortilla de queso y papas fritas con ensalada y mi amigo tenía lasaña de verduras, pan de ajo y ensalada y ambos disfrutamos nuestras comidas. El bar y el comedor estaban limpios y ordenados, sin duda volveré otra vez. Gracias.

We had an inclusive package with our overnight stay, which included a 2 course dinner. The service was good and the food was tasty. We had a reasonable choice of dishes from the menu. Quite a characterful place to dine.

El hotel George, aparentemente, se remonta al siglo XV, y lo parece, con maderas negras antiguas y torcidas y paredes de yeso blanco. Han convertido lo que podría haber sido una posada atractiva, acogedora y con carácter en un bar restaurante genérico, anónimo y moderno. Podrías estar en cualquier parte. Dicho esto, el menú podría hacer con una actualización. Es la tarifa tradicional de un hotel de finales del siglo XX: sobresaliente, bistec, lasaña, chuletas de cerdo y similares, que está bien, como en cualquier otro lugar, está bien cocinado. Pero no puedes equivocarte mucho con el pescado y las papas fritas, que ordené. Es un bog - hotel de calidad - comida de calidad y hay mucha, pero está un poco cansada, y termino necesitando una bebida para aclararme la garganta. El joven que está detrás del bar es un empleado de hotel bien entrenado, agradable, callado, pero algo formal. Un par de mesas están ocupadas, una por pareja de tipos a finales de los sesenta que, a juzgar por su conversación, son viejos amigos que no se han visto durante muchos años. El más fuerte suena como si no hubiera estado en Reading en décadas. Está animado y dice con entusiasmo cosas como: "Todas las tiendas han cambiado, y todo se ha modernizado, pero es gracioso. Todo parece tan reconocible, es como si nunca hubiera estado lejos". "Luego mira a Dickens a su alrededor. Su rostro cae y deja de hablar. El viento ha sido sacado de sus velas. Dickens ha sido modernizado pero es completamente irreconocible. Es una decepción triste. ¿Volveré alguna vez? A menos que lo vuelvan a cambiar radicalmente, nunca en un millón de años.

El barman te mira de forma extraña y siempre habla con él si no eres local. No recomendado para indios.

A lunch with friends, excellent food, lovely venue. Although it was very busy the staff were friendly and spot on. Really enjoyed our meal.

Food is ok, generous portions, I like their Indian vegetarian dishes. They have two areas; a pub and an Indian restaurant.The staff is not to welcoming and seems to be annoyed when you ask to be served outside in the patio or indian food in the pub.

Salimos a almorzar el sábado y quedamos muy decepcionados. Pedimos una baguette y un sándwich tostado. Después de unos 25 minutos sin ninguna señal de comida, el camarero se disculpó y explicó que habían estado muy ocupados. Salió la comida, el sándwich tostado estaba anémico, no había sido tostado en absoluto y nada del relleno de queso se había derretido en lo más mínimo. La baguette que pedí tenía los rellenos equivocados. El camarero se disculpó y se ofreció a hacer otro pedido, pero estábamos muy decepcionados y no podíamos estar haciendo otra espera. Obtuvimos un reembolso por la comida y nos fuimos. No volveremos.

Lovely coffee even if a little pricey

Für mich war die Bar im George Hotel perfekt. In den Clubsesseln konnte ich meine Arbeit abends erledigen und bequem ein günstiges Abendessen (Banger & Mash, Burger etc) zu einem günstigen Preis bekommen

Took a while to receive our baguettes. Specifically ordered baguettes as didn't want anything warm. Baguettes aren't fresh obviously frozen and heated up...which doesn't make egg mayonnaise taste that great. Edible but that was it

excellant service and me and my daughter both had lovely meals both had curries which were superb and very large portions at a very reasonable price

Don't go with kids. Waiters are non friendly, especially if you are with kids. Avoid at all course. Hope at one day they will understand you can't teach a 2 year old for not to make sound and roam around.

Food absolutely disgusting. Ordered sausage and mash for my daughter, sausages cheap and like rubber and mash is completely lumpy. Food took over half hour to come when complained to bar member was advised I probably had a fussy child eating and everything was freshly cooked in the kitchen and the barman saw chef cooking everything. £30 meal wasted. Avoid if possible

Je moet zelf je eten en drinken bestellen aan de bar! Maar dat zeggen ze pas nadat je al 10 minuten aan een tafeltje zit. De garnalen cocktail was saus, saus en saus met garnalen. Nadat ik het had terug gestuurd kwamen ze echt niet vragen of het nu beter was. Maw ze geven er geen zak om!! Daarna chicken massala op. Volgens mij moet dat naan brood zacht zijn en zeker niet knapperig. Maar goed uiteraard vroegen ze niet of dat wel smaakte. Nadat Mn wijn op was moet je weer naar de bar om te bestellen maar ik dacht de groeten ermee! Wat een verschrikkelijke tent zeg en dan heb ik nog niks over de indiaanse tent ernaast gezegd die gewoon zn voedsel ook naar binnen loopt alsof het zijn tent is. Bah bah

Ordered a curry, an omelette and a baguette. Took half an hour to come out! And the bar was almost empty. Draught lagers were off due to a cooler fault. Not a good experience at all!!!!

Good space for diverse crowd including our table participating in trivia night. Nice Pub food my fish n chips good and the chili dish others loved.

Well I popped in for a pint and liked the outside and inside Sky TVs. Service took a moment but nothing too bad. A small bar area with Christmas shoppers coming for a rest. It is attached to the Indian street food area Bhel Puri. What was not good for me was the Cleaners dragging bags of rubbish though the bar, but worse was the constant supply of Indian food going to the restaurant. It was non stop. Sorry, really bad design flaw.

Part of the George hotel lots of seating.old world charm gets busy early evening food smelt gorgeous but never ate there. Sky sports and a courtyard to sit in.

Pedí un sandwich de jamón, pescado y patatas fritas, y una lasaña de verduras, tardó más de 45 minutos para llegar y éramos las únicas personas allí... Y la lasaña de verduras verduras congeladas en que tenía, como coliflor, brócoli y arvejas con un poco de pasta con queso derretido! Nunca tuve un brócoli lasaña antes ... Una pena, porque el pub en sí era bastante encantador

Went for a drink , but the atmosphere was not encouraging - nearly empty - with only one customer eating. The place smells like a curry factory ( not even the nice smell of any Indian restaurant ).

The food was lovely and the value for money considering it was like pub grub it was expectional. The staff were lovely.

Rubbish food, overpriced and very poor quality....... Steak was tougher than leather at £15:95 and not sure if it was actually Sirloin ....... Avoid at all costs

Like the last reviewer we found this place on a saturday afternoon and were relieved that it wasn't anywhere near as busy as other places in town. There were very few people in there - with only one eating - yet we waited for 45 minutes for a jacket spud and a chicken burger. The spud was really hard (bordering raw). The chicken burger was mediocre. No one asked if we wanted sauces so i had to go to the bar to ask for vinegar and mayo. No one asked if the meals were ok. The house wine was not cheap and tasted pretty awful. They tried to overcharge us but I asked for a breakdown and then they corrected their error. So now I understand why it is so quiet, as you would not want to return here having tried it. The only positive was that they show premiership football matches - but from a food and drink perspective it sucks.

Being lunch time on a Saturday in Reading,every restaurant & cafe etc was full except the Dickens Bar & Brasserie,how lucky we thought,we now know why.From the start the Bar staff didn't seem to know what was going on.A wait of over a hour for our meals,with only four other people in the bar (only three eating)A trip to the bar to ask how much longer will our meals be.A promise of four minutes with a further wait of ten.Two of the meals which had been reheated in a oven and was so dry that the fish & chips could not be eaten.And a salad with so much dressing it was more of a cold soup with lettuce.After complaining we finally got a apology and the price of one meal taken off the bill.If you're walking pass the Dickens Bar & brasserie,Please KEEP ON WALKING.

Having looked at the website my partner and I thought this looked like a lovely little brasserie......WRONG!!!! The food was on par with a hungry horse and more expensive, there was nobody in the tired looking restaurant. The only good thing was the very polite waiter, but I would expect that with only two customers (us and someone coming in to use the toilet). The food was clearly cheap reconstituted frozen rubbish and the wine was warm. Just an absolute waste of money. If carlsberg did brasseries......no wait..... If travelodge did microwave meals .....this would be it!
