This place has good beer (London Pride) and the chips were good but the sandwiches, me and my friend had, left much to be desired. This place is trying to hard. Should really offer a traditional pub menu but is trying to be trendy.

The food was very poor, the chicken in the batter on the chicken burger was way to hard and overcooked, if thrown would take someones eye out. The toasted sandwiches were cold. The only good thing on the the food were the chips and the service was very good. I would not recommend the food in this establishment, but would be good for a quick drink, nice pub inside.

Have used this pub in various guises for 30 years. Dead handy as a meeting point and works for a stopover when at Reading train station. Popped in for a quick pint with my daughter. Slight mix up over offers and 2-4-1 deals which the duty manager sorted out for us nicely, always a good sign. Will (always) return.

Friendly waitress but food very disappointing. Fish & chips looked ok but I had the beef roast which was inedible. I could neither cut nor chew the beef and the potatoes were so overcooked they were liquid inside. Frankly for £21 I expect a much better quality meal. Probably ok for drinks but steer clear of the Sunday Roast.

Great location to meet friends from the station. I had high expectations of The Three Guineas given its appearance, size and location however, on this occasion, I was disappointed. I had hoped for a choice of porter or stout other than Guinness but was told that was all they had which I found surprising. A pint of Guinness costs £6.75. I didn't have any food although the menu looked quite tempting.

Staff were inattentive, more focussed on speed than service. One looked disinterested and failed to answer my question and was more interested in acknowledging another customer. Didn’t offer me a receipt with my order which prompted huffs and a botched processing of someone else’s payment. More haste less speed comes to mind. Another colleague asked how my food was by was halfway up the pub before I could answer. Something I wanted to do as to be honest it was largely awful. Possibly the worst chicken burger I’ve ever (not) eaten. It looked decent at first glance and the dressings were nice enough but when I picked it up I noticed it was black under the batter. I pulled it open and the meat was grey to black through most of it like it was old and out of date, battered so nobody would notice. I tried a bit of it but it was so tough it actually hurt briefly. I couldn’t eat it and discarded it. I just ate the tiny lettuce leaves and tomato slice. Accompanying chips were pretty standard, no complaints there. Despite the squirt of grease out of the first, the onion rings were very tasty. I did relay this to the second server when they came to collect my plates and to their credit I was offered a free drink. It should probably have been a refund but at least it was something. Alas I couldn’t take them up as I had to get a train.

Often overlooked this place on route to the station but it’s a neat little place with very good water. The staff are very friendly and nice. They even checked with me that the water was not too costly for my budget which i thought was very kind and thoughtful. But what can you say when water is your only vice due to medication any price is worth it. And I’m grateful for. Really good crowd and nice friendly atmosphere. Decor is lovely and there seems to also be a coffee shop but not open right now I don’t think. Staff working very hard moving glasses from one place to another. Good black and white photos. Interesting wine rack display. Good charging points. Very convenient. Very good music. Lots of space for suitcases while travelling so people can wheel in and out at leisure.p.s very wide selection of alcoholic beverages with nice on screen display for easy review and making a selection easy.p.p.s nice outdoor seating area good for all weathers but would be great in summer sun I’m sure :) p.p.p.s staff working very hard. Everybody relaxing having a beer. But lovely atmosphere very safe in lovely safe reading. Very nice people. Met a nice chap having a beer. Everybody just relaxing having a drink. Nice place. I have used this pub over the years when waiting for a train home and have to say after today's visit...the staff are the most friendly and helpful that have ever been employed at the pub. The offer for two beers for £10 (ales such as punk and meantime) was brought to my attention by the barstaff...I didn't have to search on a menu or hear someone else mention it.....the bar staff actually pointed out and said would you like our offer of two pints for £10. Now this is not just good...it is exceptional customer service. On top of that I was sitting waiting for my train about to go and collect my second pint which the barman had kindly written on my receipt....and then a member of barstaff whilst cleaning my table asked if I would like another and I told him of the receipt..."no worries I will bring it over" WOW! Customer service as it should be and after a hectic, hard, tough and extremely tiring week...this was brilliant. Thank you so much to the staff on March 7th. If the management are looking for how things should be done then they need not look any further! One gripe outside the control of the barstaff is the cost of the beer which is massively overinflated. Lower the price and keep this level of service and the pub will never ever be empty!

BEWARE! Had some time for connecting train and I had an early start so was feeling hungry but didn’t want a full breakfast. Hayleigh suggested a roll which I accepted - bacon and sausage. Took quite some time to arrive despite place being nearly empty. Got a stale heated up brioche roll with a bit of bacon and some cold sausages. Didn’t taste nice or right and as I was hungry I ate some of it but left some. A few hours later got cold sweats, spinning head and felt nauseous. Coincidence or something else? Only had that food on that morning. Will definitely avoid in the future.

Disgusting attitude and behaviour ("I'm done with you!") from rude staff member. All because I'd been served a drink on a cracked glass and asked for it to be changed. Spoke with manager at the time and will certainly follow up. Lovely customer service manager responded appropriately and thoroughly. I'm really impressed with Aurora's response. Just another in a line of terrible experiences at pubs these days. Having requested a half pint of beer, the young person serving snatched up a dead pint glass from the drip tray and poured the dregs from the bottom into a half pint glass, which she then started filling from the beer tap. I politely asked her to pour me a fresh one and she did so, but was clearly perturbed at my request. She then started rapidly swishing the beer around as she poured it - creating a false head and destroying the life in the beer. I politely asked her to stop doing that and just pour me a straight half pint of beer - which is my right to do. Not receiving the response I expected, I informed her taht I am fully aware of the standards and my rights, at which point, she promptly put the pint down and said something to her male colleague, who approached me and asked me what the problem was - which was already passive aggressive. A "what can I do to put this right" approach would have been more appropriate. I told him what had happened, but he wasn't really listening and started to tell me there's no problem and that I need to change my attitude. I reminded him that he asked me what the problem was and I had told him, along with what I expected. I also pointed out that him telling me there wasn't a problem, when there clearly was, is not helping me at all. You don't tell the customer to change their attitude when they are merely being firm, but polite, having been treated poorly already. I wish I had requested a refund and left, but I took the then completed half pint in good faith and sat down - feeling very unhappy. I am a frequent visitor to Reading and often meet people in the Three Guineas. I do not expect to be served remnant swill from a dead glass when I am paying £3.40 for half a pint. I would rather buy a tin from the local supermarket and sit on the street. Why would I want to pay that money for being treated like a mug? The pub experience should be about hospitality. The people working in a pub should realise they need to make the customer experience positive to encourage repeat business. I'm becoming increasingly disillusioned with service received in pubs generally. I have always considered Fullers pubs to maintain a good standard of beer and customer service, but that faith has been shattered. The Three Guineas appears to be operating a policy to re-use drips and generate excess head, to try and save money. This is false accounting because I will never go back there again and will ensure all of my friends know about it. Are these bad practices a unique Three Guineas approach, or a Fullers policy? I then went to O'Neills and had a far better experience. From now on, I will never again complete the payment transaction before I have received the pint of beer.

On this day, it was sunny, so I felt beckoned by the large outdoor area of tables. Sitting out front of this pub, watching the world go by, is a pleasure--and underrated. Good pint of a Siren ale to begin with. Then had the haddock and chips, and it was decent.
