Wig & Pen in Oxford

Every time I come to Oxford me and my family always come to this pub the last time we came I asked for a burger and couldn’t eat it because the meat was too hard to eat. Today we came again for a few drinks, when the drinks came to our table one of the glass with wine was full of lipstick stains. When I asked the staff if they could change the glass before we even drink any of it, the staff with headphones on his neck just looked at me like I was asking something from another world and as if we were stupid. I understand that these things can happen, but when me and my family are apologising for something that is out of our control and not our fault, when he comes back with the same glass and I can clearly see that he just wiped it, let me add…barely wiped it off, it’s wrong, very wrong. It’s disrespectful and disgusting. And just a tip for the workers when you see this, headphone usage is used on your break. Not whilst your working ours. Get paid to work, not to slack and chill.

Great food and a great experience for the football! TVs everywhere in the pub. Can’t wait to return.

A spot not to be missed in central Oxford! The staff couldn't do more for us and it was great to see plenty of TVs around the site showing all the major sports events. Delicious food and drink in a lively and welcoming venue - thank you so much!

Actually a great pub, but unfortunately it turned into a disco on Saturday at 9 p.m. Music was good, but way (!) too loud, we fled...

We wait 45 min for the food, couldn't order online then it was ordinary food... For sure not going back!

Food is great! Beer is great Caitlin (i think thats her name had orange hair) reccomended some great. Callum pointed me in the direction of the Beer and Burger Menu and i have the say the Katsu burger is brilliant great value for whats on offer. All round great pub and good vibes would reccomend - so close to the Theatre cant go wrong.

Nice decor and friendly service. Right in centre of Oxford so great for shopping and tourism. Reasonable prices. Good beer selection . Very spacious/ upstairs seating as well and good for watching sports.

Didn't eat here but what was being served looked good. Good selection of beer and cider. TV for sports. Located over the road from the theatre so can get very busy.

Another great afternoon in the Wig and pen. One of Oxfords best pubs! Great chilled atmosphere, service was quick, the staff were friendly and professional and the food and drink were top notch. Great they've got so much space and loads of tellys for the sport. Thanks and see you again!

Stopped by on a Monday afternoon after checking the menu out as we passed. Both me and my friend wanted just a sandwich and a quick drink so we could continue with our day. Inside was pretty quiet. We picked a table by the window which we realised was in need of a wipe over. My friend got a cloth from the barman which was dry so not much use but it helped. Scanned the QR code added a steak sandwich and the cheese toastie, my friend’s drink and then I went for a gin that the app advised me to try. Went to check out both sandwiches and the gin the app advised me to try were out of stock. At this point we just walked out.

Right opposite the Oxford New Theater, we needed abreak from all the hustle & bustle of St Giles Fair.Plenty of seating available in this old central pub. We ate a pie & a burger which were served very quickly & tasted great. Noticed that the cusomers ages were mostly an older generation, but a pleasant atmosphere & good food.

Nice enough typical chain pub and staff but my food was awful. Obviously microwaved, fair enough but it was horrible. Steak in steak and ale pie was nasty and gristly. Pastry thick and hard. Reheated dollop of mash was dry and heavy. Only veg was some rather large hard peas. Like a bad school dinner from the olden days. Very disappointing. Left most of it

The portions could have been bigger.

First time in an English pub. The fish and chips were very good, and I even liked the mushy peas they came with -a first for this American. Chips were fried to perfection. Large piece of cod. Find a table. Remember the number. Order at the bar (or with their app). Had fast service by nice people. Good people watching at table by the window.

Considering that it is "pub food" and not a restaurant it was just fine. Good food, good drinks and everything on the menu available. We had quite a negative experience with a previous "Greene King" pub, but this one was good, so it is not the fault of the umbrella organization.

Real ale pub, good food and pleasant staff. On a rainy day what more do you want in Oxford, sun?

Great wings and chips. Great central location

After seeing all the good reviews I was excited to have dinner here, unfortunately not long after entering the excitement left. No one came to explain how things worked within the bar. Finally figured out we had to use an app to order and pay for our food. Once ordered and a long wait for drinks and starters we finally met out first staff member who seemed like they didn't even want to be there. After an even longer wait for our mains, we still had no napkins and had to rummage through some drawers to find some ourselves. That's when we met our second member of staff who seemed even less interested to be there. Besides the food being quite good, I can't recommend a good experience in the Wig & Pen.

Nice pub with good food. We had lunch here and were very happy with the food. Unfortunately you have to order via the app, but once the app was installed the food was ordered quickly. We would come again.

My wife had shredded mushroom curry with rice and I had 3 cheese mac&cheese.I have never before had such a cheesy mac&cheese,well done wig and pen,wifey was suitably impressed with hers also,we sat down at bout 1130 Sat dinner,wasn't too busy then but by time we left it was.Defo reccomend and will return.Many thanks

Looking for a late breakfast my wife spotted the Wig abd Pen which is a Weatherspoons pub. On entry it was busy so we found a table at which we found the breakfast menu which ran to midday. After ordering two large breakfast with refillable drinks we on waited around 20min for the food. While waiting a staff member came over and apologised for the wait. All the staff were great and the food was of a good standard. If in Oxford near the Westgate Shopping centre I would recommend the Wig and Pen as a good place to eat and drink at a very reasonable price.

Located in the heart of the town centre, this venue has reasonably priced food and good friendly service. The Sunday roasts were not perfect but worthy of 4/5.

Quite cozy place with mediocre food and a convoluted app system. Why require a unique app instead of just QR-code website ordering? The steak pie filling was really good, but the dough was a bit bland and dry. The mash and peas were also on the bland and dry side and would really have appreciated some butter. The steak was cooked medium-well, not "pink" as ordered.

Went in for the hunters chicken, came out with a full stomach. Some really good food they did! Me and my friends have been there so many times and we have enjoyed every single second of being there. Friendly staff, sometimes even a DJ on the weekends which is an added bonus!!!!!!!!

my husband and my sister went for drinks. Was just going for drinks, also got some very good food! Good to see the DJ again as we missed him last month. security was friendly. The security guy was actually very nice and I saw him putting a smile on other peoples faces. Only complaint was I woke up with an almighty hangover after having such a great night. 10/10 would go again

Popped in for a quick bite to Wig&Pen with a couple of friends. We decided to go for the sandwiches. BLT chicken sandwich, steak sandwich and halloumi wrap were delicious and served within 15 minutes. Place was quite busy and seemed like a lot of tourists visit the pub when in the city centre. Highly recommended!

Went into the wig and pen today and had a great meal. The Olympics were on and the service from the bar team was amazing! Really clean pub and the team obviously enjoy their job. We aren't from Oxford but will be returning to the wig and pen next time we are in the city. Very reasonably priced for an expensive city. Best place we visited

+ sports on tv + reasonably priced ales - very expensive Coke Zero - the worst flat iron stake I’ve ever had (judging by the color of meat it wasn’t prepared today…) - my friend saw a rodent (probably a mouse) inside the pub…

This was my 3rd time visiting Oxford and England in general. Each time I had high hopes of enjoying a proper fish and chips at a local pub. Each time I was disappointed- until now. I walked by Wig & Pen and was drawn in by the atmosphere- as it looked cozy and fitting of a pub. The staff was really friendly (Lucy and Gabe). They convinced me to give the fish & chips a go. Gabe suggested the mushy peas so I followed his advice. The fish seemed fresh and light and had a nice crisp to it - even after adding a bit of vinegar and tartar sauce to each bite. Thank you Lucy and Gabe for restoring my faith in local pubs to provide a feeling of “home” and a proper fish and chips!! Highly recommend Wig and Pen!

Classic English pub, very large and with plenty of seating. Wide choice of good vegetarian and vegan dishes. I recommend the fried halloumi. High prices, not very fast service but really friendly staff.

Good place to go with friends for a beer. It was football the night I went so was noisy and the drinks overpriced, but that is Oxford all over so expected.

Good ambiance, vibrant and lively. Great music with a place to dance, or lots of seating available if you’re catching up with friends. All staff are friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!
