I love this place as it's local to me, food is fantastic but the service is very slow. We've been there lots of times for food and only for a drink. To order food it takes ages for someone to come to do order and same is with waiting for a bill or just ask that we wanted to pay.

Your service was really good and quick and the lemon flavoured shortcake biscuits were absolutely delicious. Seb aged 9

The Crown was ok. It does seem expensive for what it is. My sandwich had very ordinary sliced white bread, one corner of which was slightly stale! The filling was nice as was the slaw and fries. It just felt like new management from when I had much more enjoyed it in the past. So, ok only.

Went to the Bear for dinner with my sister and her partner who were visiting from Cornwall and we were all agreed that the experience was excellent. We are residents of Wantage and we have often enjoyed a nice lunch at the Bear but this was the first time we had gone for dinner. The menu was really good with a gastro pub feel and lots of choice and prices are very reasonable too. The pigeon and black pudding quail scotch egg with black berries was stunning, the cod dish, Thai style was a real treat. Excellent fish & chips (small portion is more than enough) and perfectly cooked steak. The place was packed and extremely busy with large parties but the staff were excellent, no untimely waits, great service with plenty of smiles - keep it up, you are all doing a great job and the chef and their brigade seriously know what they are doing! We will definitely be back!

We had a fabulous Mother’s Day lunch , six people in the lovely restaurant, all our meals were cooked to perfection and plentiful, with gorgeous fresh vegetables and crispy roast potatoes. Two of our party had the burger on the specials board and said it was outstanding . I am gluten free and vegetarian and Stew always makes sure I have a tasty meal that is often made especially for me . The service is always speedy and professional, and nothing is too much trouble . Highly recommend The Talbot , not just for Sunday lunch the main menu is always fantastic, thank you Talbot Team , you made our Mother’s Day very special 💐

Visited on Thursday lunch time. Not busy, but a wonderful visit. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was very good, My husband had the sirloin and was cooked just how he ordered it, I had the Mediterranean vegetable tart which was lovely, the pastry was very crisp, with a lovely salad on the side. The desserts were well worth it too. Good selection of alcohol free drinks, important when one of you is driving. The toilets were spotless clean and well stocked with everything you could think off, including hand lotion and sanitary goods if needed. I was very impressed. We will definitely go again.

This should have been super duper as the area in the town is sited in a pretty cobbled market square in the old historic town centre. The sun was out and we walked into the cafe with only compliments about the range of pastries and food on display. We ordered two ciabatta with feta and salad filling ( I hadn’t got my specs on so couldn’t read the £) our friends had a vegan roll and a sausage twist. I asked for a “pot” of decaf tea. The problem arose when I asked for another pot of hot water….. the waitress brought me a cup half filled with hot water ?! I thought she had misheard my request ….. as a bug flew straight into it i returned it and asked for a replacement, but a “pot” with a lid on it ( to keep stray bugs out and the heat in). They said they could only give me a cup of water ?…. I thought they might not have any more tea pots spare. They said no I wasn’t allowed another tea pot ! I was only allowed a cup and if I wanted, as suggested a disposable cup with a lid I would be charged 20p extra. The fact that the sandwich ( tasty but by no means huge- was £10) and the bill arrived at £26 you would have thought a pot of hot water wasn’t too much to ask for. Anyhow we won’t return there as the manner by which it was handled ( infront of other patrons was unprofessional) I felt sad for the waitress who looked embarrassed. I happen to think a good service of a pot of tea should be offered with extra hot water I like to take my tea on a certain way - maybe she thought I was going to run away with her pot?! Sad as we’re staying in Abingdon but won’t patronise this cafe again.

A great, stylish accommodation in an old inn. Location: The pub is in a small town about 20 minutes from Oxford. Park: The house has its own, spacious and free parking space. Room: Our room was huge and rustic. Nevertheless, it was somehow modern, especially the bathroom, everything was harmonious and comfortable. An old, steep staircase leads up to the room above the pub. Although the room is directly above the dining room, it was very quiet and no noise could be heard. Bathroom: The bathroom was large and modern. Plus, always pleasantly warm. Staff: All the staff, both at reception and at dinner and breakfast, were extremely friendly and nice. Breakfast: You could choose breakfast from the menu and it was freshly prepared. Delicious. Bar/Restaurant: Quaint pub and restaurant with very tasty food. We really enjoyed the evenings here. Price-performance: The price for the overnight stay is a little higher but the price/performance ratio is still okay.

I had a fantastic experience at this pub! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a cosy charm that made it the perfect place to unwind. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, creating a welcoming environment from the moment I walked in. What truly stood out was the food quality — every dish was delicious, well-prepared, and clearly made with care. Whether you're stopping in for a casual meal or a night out with friends, this pub delivers on all fronts. Highly recommended!
